ਥਿਰੁ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ਵਰੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਾਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੧॥
thir suhaag var agam agochar jan nanak paraym saaDhaaree jee-o. ||4||4||11||
O’ Nanak, eternal is the union of that soul: she has been blessed with the love and support of the incomprehensible and unknowable God||4||4||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤਕ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l

Raag Maajh, Fifth Guru:
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਦਰਸਨ ਚਾਹੇ ॥
khojat khojat darsan chaahay.
Seeking and searching You, I have developed yearning for Your blessed vision.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਤੇ ਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦਾ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਨ ਬਨ ਅਵਗਾਹੇ ॥
bhaat bhaat ban ban avgaahay.
I have travelled through all sorts of woods and forests.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਤੇ ਬੇਲੇ ਮੈਂ ਗਾਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਸਰਗੁਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
nirgun sargun har har mayraa ko-ee hai jee-o aan milaavai jee-o. ||1||
Is there anybody who can unite me with my God who is intangible and yet tangible at the same time. ||1||
ਕੀ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਜੀਵ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਜੋ ਇਕ ਸਾਥ ਗੁਪਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੈ, ਕੋਲਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ?
ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ ਬਿਚਰਤ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
khat saasat bichrat mukh gi-aanaa.
People recite from memory the wisdom of the six schools of philosophy;
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ (ਸੁਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ),
ਪੂਜਾ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥
poojaa tilak tirath isnaanaa.
they perform worship service, wear ceremonial religious marks on their foreheads, and take ritual cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਿਵਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਆਸਨ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
nivlee karam aasan cha-oraaseeh in meh saaNt na aavai jee-o. ||2||
They perform the cleansing practice and adopt the eighty-four Yogic postures; but still, they find no spiritual peace in any of these. ||2||
ਉਹ ਨਿਵਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਆਸਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਦਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਰਖ ਕੀਏ ਜਪ ਤਾਪਾ ॥
anik barakh kee-ay jap taapaa.
For Years they perform meditation and practice austere self-discipline.
ਜੋਗੀ ਲੋਕ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਾਲ ਜਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਪ ਸਾਧਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਗਵਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਭਰਮਾਤਾ ॥
gavan kee-aa Dhartee bharmaataa.
they wander on journeys all over the world;
ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਣ ਭੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
ik khin hirdai saaNt na aavai jogee bahurh bahurh uth Dhaavai jee-o. ||3||
and yet, their hearts are not at peace, even for an instant and they keep performing these rituals again and again. ||3||
ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ। ਅਤੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਜਪਾਂ ਤਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirpaa mohi saaDh milaa-i-aa.
Showing mercy, God has united me with the Guru.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
man tan seetal Dheeraj paa-i-aa.
My mind and body have become tranquil and contented.
ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਠੰਢੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਬਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੨॥
parabh abhinase basia ghat bheetar har mangal nanak gaavai jee-o. ||4||5||12||
The Immortal God has taken abode in my heart, devotee Nanak Joyfully sings the songs of His praises.||4||5||12||
ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ (ਇਹ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੀ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈl

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
paarbarahm aprampar dayvaa.
God, Who is Supreme, Infinite and Divine
ਹਰੀ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮ ਆਤਮਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ,
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥
agam agochar alakh abhayvaa.
Who is Incomprehensible, Invisible and Unfathomable,
ਜੋ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਉਚੇਰਾ , ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
deen da-i-aal gopaal gobindaa har Dhi-aavahu gurmukh gaatee jee-o. ||1||
Merciful to the meek, Master and Preserver of the world, by lovingly meditating on Him through the Guru’s teachings liberation from the vices is obtained. ||1||
ਜੋ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਤਾਬੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਦੀ ਪਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh maDhusoodan nistaaray.
God, who killed the demon Madhu (mentioned in Hindu holy book Gita), saves the Guru’s followers from the vices.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਧੂ-ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਗੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh sangee krisan muraaray.
God, who killed the demon Mur (mentioned in Hindu holy book Gita) becomes the companion of the Guru’s followers.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮੁਰ-ਦੈਂਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਇਆਲ ਦਮੋਦਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਭਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
da-i-aal damodar gurmukh paa-ee-ai horat kitai na bhaatee jee-o. ||2||
It is only by the Guru’s grace that we realize the merciful God. He is not realized by any other way ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਨਿਰਹਾਰੀ ਕੇਸਵ ਨਿਰਵੈਰਾ ॥
nirhara kaysav nirvairaa.
Keshav, God with beautiful hair, has enmity with none, and is self sustaining.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕੇਸ਼ਵ (ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ) ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ,
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਪੈਰਾ ॥
kot janaa jaa kay poojeh pairaa.
Millions of devotees worship at whose feet. (with utmost humility)
ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ਭਗਤੁ ਇਕਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
gurmukh hirdai jaa kai har har so-ee bhagat ikaatee jee-o. ||3||
In whose heart God dwells by the Guru’s grace, only that person is known as His unique devotee||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨਿੰਨ ਭਗਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਅਮੋਘ ਦਰਸਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
amogh darsan bay-ant apaaraa.
Definitely fruitful is the sight of the infinite and Supreme God.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ (ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ) ਫਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
vad samrath sadaa daataaraa.
He is All-powerful; He is forever the Great Giver.
ਉਹ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੩॥
gurmukh naam japee-ai tit taree-ai gat naanak virlee jaatee jee-o. ||4||6||13||
Meditating on God’s Name through the Guru’s teachings, we swim across the worldly ocean of vices. But O’ Nanak, rare are those, who have realized this supreme state of mind.||4||6||13||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਰਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੩॥

Raag Maajh, Fifth Guru:
ਕਹਿਆ ਕਰਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਲੈਣਾ ॥
kahi-aa karnaa ditaa lainaa.
O’ God, mortals do whatever You order. They receive only whatever You give.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਰੀਬਾ ਅਨਾਥਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
gareebaa anaathaa tayraa maanaa.
You are the protector and sole pride of the meek and Helpless.
ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਨਾਥ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh tooNhai tooNhai mere piarray tayree kudrat ka-o bal jaa-ee jee-o. ||1||
O’ my beloved God, You are everything, I dedicate myself to Your power. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਭਾਣੈ ਉਝੜ ਭਾਣੈ ਰਾਹਾ ॥
bhaanai ujharh bhaanai raahaa.
By God’s Will, some go astray and by God’s Will some follow righteous path in life.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤਾ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਫੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵਾਹਾ ॥
bhaanai har gun gurmukh gaavaahaa.
It is by God’s Will only, some follow the Guru’s teachings and sing your praises.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਾਣੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਜੂਨੀ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
bhaanai bharam bhavai baho joonee sabh kichh tisai rajaa-ee jee-o. ||2||
By God’s Will, some wander in doubt through many existences. Everything happens by His Will. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੌਂਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਇਹ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
naa ko moorakh naa ko si-aanaa.
By himself, no one is foolish, and no one is wise.
(ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨਾਲ) ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
vartai sabh kichh tayraa bhaanaa.
Everything happens as per Your Will.
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਸਭ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
agam agochar bay-ant athaahaa tayree keemat kahan na jaa-ee jee-o. ||3||
O’ Incomprehensible, Infinite and Unfathomable God, Your worth cannot be expressed. ||3||
ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਦਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਖਾਕੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
khaak santan kee dayh pi-aaray.
O’ God, Please bless me with the dust of the feet (humble service) of the saints.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਦੇਹ।
ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥
aa-ay pa-i-aa har tayrai du-aarai.
O’ God, I have come and fallen at Your door ( sought Your refuge).
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਮਨੁ ਆਘਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੪॥
darsan paykhat man aaghaavai naanak milan subhaa-ee jee-o. ||4||7||14||
O’ Nanak by seeing His sight, mind is satiated from the worldly attachments, and the union with God takes place intuitively. ||4||7||14||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੪॥

Raag Maajh, Fifth Guru:
ਦੁਖੁ ਤਦੇ ਜਾ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
dukh taday jaa visar jaavai.
One is afflicted with sorrow only when one forgets God.
(ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭੁਖ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
bhukh vi-aapai baho biDh Dhaavai.
Afflicted with the cravings for Maya (worldly wealth), one keeps on wandering to satisfy this craving.
(ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
simrat naam sadaa suhaylaa jis dayvai deen da-i-aalaa jee-o. ||1||
Whom the Merciful God bestows the gift of Naam, he always remains peaceful by remembering God with love and devotion||1||
ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੌਖਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥਾ ॥
