ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Dhan Dhan har jan jin har parabh jaataa.
Blessed are those humble devotees of God who have realized Him
ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਾ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
jaa-ay puchhaa jan har kee baataa.
I want to go and ask them about the praises of God.
(ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹਰਿ-ਜਨਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਪੁੱਛਾਂ।
ਪਾਵ ਮਲੋਵਾ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਚੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
paav malovaa mal mal Dhovaa mil har jan har ras peechai jee-o. ||2||
I will wash the feet (the most humble service) of the devotees of God, so that in their company I may also partake the nectar of God’s Name. ||2||
ਮੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਘੁੱਟਾਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਮਲ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਧੋਵਾਂ। ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
satgur daatai naam dirhaa-i-aa.
The Guru, the Bestower has implanted the Naam within me.
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
vadbhaagee gur darsan paa-i-aa.
By great good fortune, I have obtained the Blessed Vision of the Guru.
ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬੋਲੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੀਚੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
amrit ras sach amrit bolee gur poorai amrit leechai jee-o. ||3||
By partaking the Ambrosial nectar of Naam, I utter the nectar like Naam. The Ambrosial nectar of Naam can be obtained only from the Guru.||3||
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮ (ਮੂੰਹੋਂ) ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹੀ) ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ॥
har satsangat sat purakh milaa-ee-ai.
O’ God! help me join the company of the saints and the true Guru.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
mil satsangat har naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
In the company of divine people, contemplation on Naam is more easily achieved.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਰੀਚੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੬॥
naanak har kathaa sunee mukh bolee gurmat har naam pareechai jee-o. ||4||6||
O’ Nanak, pray that I may keep listening and reciting God’s praises, and through the Guru’s teachings, I may remain absorbed in God’s Name.||4||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਮਨ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

Raag Maajh, Fourth Guru:
ਆਵਹੁ ਭੈਣੇ ਤੁਸੀ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੀਆ ॥
aavhu bhainay tusee milhu pi-aaree-aa.
O my dear sisters, let us join together.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਭੈਣੋ! (ਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਹੋ!) ਤੁਸੀ ਆਵੋ ਤੇ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੋ।
ਜੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦਸੇ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀਆ ॥
jo mayraa pareetam dasay tis kai ha-o vaaree-aa.
I will dedicate myself to the one who will tell me about my Beloved.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਭੈਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀ ਦੱਸ ਪਾਇਗੀ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਵਾਂਗੀ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਲਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਘੁਮਾਈਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
mil satsangat laDhaa har sajan ha-o satgur vitahu ghumaa-ee-aa jee-o. ||1||
By joining the holy congregation, with the help of the Guru, I have realized God, my friend. So, I dedicate myself to the Guru.||1||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਮੈਂ ਸੱਜਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jah jah daykhaa tah tah su-aamee.
O’ God, Wherever I look, there I see You.
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਜਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਧਰ ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
too ghat ghat ravi-aa antarjaamee.
O’ the Knower of minds, You pervade each and every heart.
ਹੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ! ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਸਦ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
gur poorai har naal dikhaali-aa ha-o satgur vitahu sad vaari-aa jee-o. ||2||
I dedicate myself to the perfect Guru who has made me realize that is God present right beside me. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ l
ਏਕੋ ਪਵਣੁ ਮਾਟੀ ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਾਈਆ ॥
ayko pavan maatee sabh aykaa sabh aykaa jot sabaa-ee-aa.
All beings have been created out of the same air and clay (the same basic elements), and the same One Light is present in all.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) (ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਹਵਾ (ਸੁਆਸ) ਹੈ, ਮਿੱਟੀ ਤੱਤ ਭੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਰੱਬੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਇਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਭਿਨਿ ਭਿਨਿ ਨ ਰਲਈ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੀ ਰਲਾਈਆ ॥
sabh ikaa jot vartai bhin bhin na ral-ee kisai dee ralaa-ee-aa.
Even though the same one Light shines in all hearts, yet all are distinct, and one cannot be mixed with or confused for the other.
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਵਖ ਵਖ (ਦਿੱਸਦੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਰਲਾਇਆਂ ਰਲਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ (ਜੋਤਿ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦੀ)।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਇਕੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਤਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
gur parsaadee ik nadree aa-i-aa ha-o satgur vitahu vataa-i-aa jee-o. ||3||
By the Guru’s grace, I have seen the one God present in all. I dedicate myself to the true Guru.||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ l
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
jan naanak bolai amrit banee.
The humble devotee Nanak, utters the ambrosial Divine words.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਸਦਾ) ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
gursikhaaN kai man pi-aaree bhaanee.
The Divine Words are pleasing to the minds of the Guru’s disciples.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੭॥
updays karay gur satgur pooraa gur satgur par-upkaaree-aa jee-o. ||4||7||
The Guru teaches (that same light of God is in everybody). The perfect Guru is benefactor and generous to all. ||4||7||
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਇਹੀ) ਉਸਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੀ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ)। ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥
ਸਤ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਮਹਲੇ ਚਉਥੇ ਕੇ ॥
sat cha-upday mahlay cha-uthay kay.
Seven Chau-Padas of the Fourth Guru:
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥

Raag Maajh, Fifth Guru, Chau-Padas, First Beat:
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚੈ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨ ਤਾਈ ॥
mayraa man lochai gur darsan taa-ee.
My mind longs for the blessed vision of the Guru,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਬੜੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਲਪ ਕਰੇ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ॥
bilap karay chaatrik kee ni-aa-ee.
it wails like a rain bird that wails for a special drop of rain water.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਲਈ ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
tarikhaa na utrai saaNt na aavai bin darsan sant pi-aaray jee-o. ||1||
Without the Blessed Vision of the Beloved Guru, my thirst is not quenched, and I find no peace, ||1||
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਕ) ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਮਿਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਹਉ ਘੋਲੀ ਜੀਉ ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ha-o gholee jee-o ghol ghumaa-ee gur darsan sant pi-aaray jee-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I dedicate myself to the Blessed Vision of the Beloved Saint Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ l
ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਜੀਉ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
tayraa mukh suhaavaa jee-o sahj Dhun banee.
O’ Guru, pleasing is your countenance, and soothing is your utterance.
ਤੇਰਾ ਮੂੰਹ (ਤੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਠੰਢ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਲਹਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਚਿਰੁ ਹੋਆ ਦੇਖੇ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣੀ ॥
chir ho-aa daykhay saaringpaanee.
O’ God, it has been long time since, I have had Your blessed Vision.
ਹੇ ਧਨੁਖ-ਧਾਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਜਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਜਣ ਮੀਤ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Dhan so days jahaa tooN vasi-aa mayray sajan meet muraaray jee-o. ||2||
O’ my dear friend God, Blessed is the heart where You dwell.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਦੇਸ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ l
ਹਉ ਘੋਲੀ ਹਉ ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਜਣ ਮੀਤ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ha-o gholee ha-o ghol ghumaa-ee gur sajan meet muraaray jee-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my beloved Guru, O’ my friend God, I dedicate myself to You.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਗੁਰੂ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮਿਲਤੇ ਤਾ ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਹੋਤਾ ॥
ik gharhee na miltay taa kalijug hotaa.
Even a moment without seeing you is painful like a long period of Kal-Yug.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾ ਦਾ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਣਿ ਕਦਿ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥
hun kad milee-ai pari-a tuDh bhagvantaa.
When will I meet You, O’ my Beloved God? I am forlorn without you.
(ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਹਬਲ ਹਾਂ) ਦੱਸ ਹੁਣ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਕਦੋਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਾਂਗਾ।
