ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
manmukh agi-aanee anDhulay janam mareh fir aavai jaa-ay.
The self-willed people remain spiritually ignorant; they are born only to die again and remain in the cycle of birth and death.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੰਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਨੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ॥
kaaraj siDh na hovnee ant ga-i-aa pachhutaa-ay.
The worldly tasks of a self-willed person are not accomplished, and in the end such a person repents while departing from the world.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕਈ ਧੰਧੇ ਸਹੇੜੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਥੋਂ ਹਾਹੁਕੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
jis karam hovai tis satgur milai so har har naam Dhi-aa-ay.
One who is blessed with God’s Grace, meets the true Guru and always lovingly remembers God’s Name.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
naam ratay jan sadaa sukh paa-iniH jan naanak tin bal jaa-ay. ||1||
Those who are imbued with Naam, always enjoy celestial peace and devotee Nanak is dedicated to them. ||1||
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥

Third Mehl:
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
aasaa mansaa jag mohnee jin mohi-aa sansaar.
Hope and desire for worldly riches and power is a big enticer in the world, it has captivated the entire world.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਚੀਰੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
sabh ko jam kay cheeray vich hai jaytaa sabh aakaar.
Everybody, and all that is visible, is in the grip of the demon of death.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਭੀ ਜਗਤ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,ਜਮ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਲਗਦਾ ਸੋ ਉਬਰੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
hukmee hee jam lagdaa so ubrai jis bakhsai kartaar.
It is by God’s command that the demon of death afflicts a person; he alone is saved, whom the Creator-God forgives.
ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਤਰੈ ਜਾ ਛੋਡੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
naanak gur parsaadee ayhu man taaN tarai jaa chhodai ahaNkaar.
O’ Nanak, one’s mind is released from the grip of hopes and desires only when one abandons his ego by Guru’s grace;
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਦੀ ਘੁੰਮਣ-ਘੇਰੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ,ਜਦੋਂ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ;
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
aasaa mansaa maaray niraas ho-ay gur sabdee veechaar. ||2||
and when he eradicates his hope and desire, remaining detached from the worldly attractions by reflecting on the Guru’s word. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਸਾਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ॥੨॥

ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਈਐ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਈ ॥
jithai jaa-ee-ai jagat meh tithai har saa-ee.
Wherever we go in the world, the master-God is pervading there.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਭੀ ਜਾਈਏ, ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ।
ਅਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਈ ॥
agai sabh aapay varatdaa har sachaa ni-aa-ee.
In the world hereafter as well, God, the True Judge Himself, is pervading.
ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਕੂੜਿਆਰਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਟਕੀਅਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
koorhi-aaraa kay muh fitkee-ah sach bhagat vadi-aa-ee.
The false ones are disgraced and true devotees are honored in God’s presence.
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰਾਂ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਛਾਈ ॥
sach saahib sachaa ni-aa-o hai sir nindak chhaa-ee.
According to the true justice of the eternal God, the slanderers are put to shame.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਭੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ। ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਸੁਆਹ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥
jan naanak sach araaDhi-aa gurmukh sukh paa-ee. ||5||
O’ Nanak, those who have lovingly remembered the eternal God through the Guru, have always enjoyed the celestial peace. ||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੫॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
poorai bhaag satgur paa-ee-ai jay har parabh bakhas karay-i.
If God bestows mercy, then with perfect destiny one meets with the true Guru.
ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਓਪਾਵਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਓਪਾਉ ਹੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
opaavaa sir opaa-o hai naa-o paraapat ho-ay.
Meeting and following the teachings of the true Guru is the most effective way to receive Naam.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਸੀਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
andar seetal saaNt hai hirdai sadaa sukh ho-ay.
Naam brings soothing tranquility and eternal peace in the heart.
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
amrit khaanaa painHnaa naanak naa-ay vadi-aa-ee ho-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak! one whose entire life revolves around the ambrosial Naam, receives glory through Naam. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਤੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ (ਭਾਵ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਏ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
ay man gur kee sikh sun paa-ihi gunee niDhaan.
O’ my mind, you would realize God, the treasure of virtues, by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਏਂਗਾ।
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
sukh-daata tayrai man vasai ha-umai jaa-ay abhimaan.
Then you would experience God, the bestower of celestial peace, dwelling in your mind, and your ego and arrogance would go away.
(ਸਾਰੇ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸ ਪਏਗਾ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
naanak nadree paa-ee-ai amrit gunee niDhaan. ||2||
O’ Nanak, it is only by God’s grace that one receives ambrosial Naam, the treasure of virtues. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਜਿਤਨੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਖਾਨ ਉਮਰਾਵ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ਹਹਿ ਤਿਤਨੇ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਏ ॥
jitnay paatisaah saah raajay khaan umraav sikdaar heh titnay sabh har kay kee-ay.
The kings, emperors, rulers, lords, nobles and chiefs, are all created by God.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਾਹ, ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ, ਰਾਜੇ, ਖ਼ਾਨ, ਅਮੀਰ ਤੇ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਓਇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਅਰਥੀਏ ॥
jo kichh har karaavai so o-ay karahi sabh har kay arthee-ay.
Whatever God causes them to do, they do; they all are beggars before God.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ (ਦਰ ਦੇ ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਵਲਿ ਹੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਨ ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗੋਲੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਗੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ॥
so aisaa har sabhnaa kaa parabh satgur kai val hai tin sabh varan chaaray khaanee sabh sarisat golay kar satgur agai kaar kamaavan ka-o dee-ay.
Such an all-powerful God is on the side of the true Guru; He has engaged people of all social classes and creatures of the all four sources of life to the service of the Guru.
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਚਹੁੰਆਂ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਚਹੁੰਆਂ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ (ਦੇ ਜੀਵ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਖੜੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੀ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੀਏ ॥
har sayvay kee aisee vadi-aa-ee daykhhu har santahu jin vichahu kaa-i-aa nagree dusman doot sabh maar kadhee-ay.
O’ saints of God, look at the glory of the devotional worship God, which has beaten out all the enemies and demons (vices) from within our body-village.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਵੇਖੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਗੁਣ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੇ (ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ-ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਬਾਹਰ) ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਏ ॥੬॥
har har kirpaal ho-aa bhagat janaa upar har aapnee kirpaa kar har aap rakh lee-ay. ||6||
God has become gracious on the devotees and showing His mercy He Himself has saved them from the vices. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਉਤੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਪ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
andar kapat sadaa dukh hai manmukh Dhi-aan na laagai.
A self-willed person always endures misery because of his deceit; therefore, his mind doesn’t get attuned to God.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦੀ।
ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥
dukh vich kaar kamaavnee dukh vartai dukh aagai.
Such a person does deeds while enduring misery; he always remain suffering here and he would also suffer hereafter.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
karmee satgur bhaytee-ai taa sach naam liv laagai.
When by God’s grace one meets the true Guru and follows his teachings, then his mind gets attuned to the eternal God.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
naanak sehjay sukh ho-ay andrahu bharam bha-o bhaagai. ||1||
O’ Nanak, doubt and fear run away from his mind and spiritual peace prevails intuitively. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤਦ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ਼ੈਨ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh sadaa har rang hai har kaa naa-o man bhaa-i-aa.
A follower of the Guru always remains imbued in the love of God; the Name of God is always pleasing to his mind.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰੰਗਣ ਚੜ੍ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
