ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh vaykhan bolnaa naam japat sukh paa-i-aa.
He looks at things and speaks keeping the Guru’s teaching in mind; he receives spiritual peace by always remembering God with adoration.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਤਿਮਰ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
naanak gurmukh gi-aan pargaasi-aa timar agi-aan anDhayr chukaa-i-aa. ||2||
O’ Nanak, the pitch darkness of ignorance vanishes and his mind becomes spiritually enlightened by following the Guru’s teachings. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Third Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਰਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

The self-willed fools are evil-minded and they remain spiritually dead.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh nirmal har raakhi-aa ur Dhaar.
But the Guru’s followers remain immaculate, because they keep God enshrined within their hearts.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
bhanat naanak sunhu jan bhaa-ee.
Nanak says: Listen O’ my saintly brothers,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਈ ॥
satgur sayvihu ha-umai mal jaa-ee.
follow the Guru’s teachings, and the dirt of ego from your mind would go away.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੰਸਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧਾ ਨਿਤ ਮਾਰ ॥
andar sansaa dookh vi-aapay sir DhanDhaa nit maar.
Those who are afflicted with skepticism and sorrow, they always keep suffering the pain of worldly entanglements.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਹਿਮ ਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਹਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਖੁਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨਾਂ,
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੂਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay sootay kabahu na jaageh maa-i-aa moh pi-aar.
Those who remain spiritually unaware in the love of duality, they never become spiritually aware because of their love for worldly riches and power.
ਜੋ ਦੂਜੈ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੁੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਗਦੇ l
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
naam na cheeteh sabad na vichaareh ih manmukh kaa beechaar.
They do not remember God and they do not contemplate the Guru’s word; this is the way of thinking of the self-willed people.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਇਤਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ-ਬੱਸ! ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੋਚਣ ਦਾ ਢੰਗ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੩॥
har naam na bhaa-i-aa birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa naanak jam maar karay khu-aar. ||3||
O’ Nanak, God’s Name does not seem pleasing to them, they waste their life in vain; the demon of death punishes and humiliates them. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਟਦਾ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਖੱਜਲ-ਖੁਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥

Pauree:
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥
jis no har bhagat sach bakhsee-an so sachaa saahu.
He alone is spiritually wealthy, whom God blesses with the devotional worship.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੀ ਲੋਕੁ ਕਢਦਾ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਹਟਿ ਨ ਵਥੁ ਨ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥
tis kee muhtaajee lok kadh-daa horat hat na vath na vaysaahu.
The entire world becomes subservient to him, because the wealth of devotional worship is not available from anywhere else .
ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਅਰਥੀਆ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੱਟ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਸੌਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਲਏ ਵੇਮੁਖ ਭਸੁ ਪਾਹੁ ॥
bhagat janaa ka-o sanmukh hovai so har raas la-ay vaimukh bhas paahu.
The devotees who follow the Guru’s teachings receive the wealth of God’s Name; but those who turn away from the Guru are disgraced.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਮੋੜਨ ਵਾਲੇਇਆ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਹਹਿ ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੁ ॥
har kay naam kay vaapaaree har bhagat heh jam jaagaatee tinaa nayrh na jaahu.
The devotees of God remember His Name with loving devotion, the demon of death, the enforcer of punishment, does not go near them.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਮ ਮਸੂਲੀਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਲਦਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੭॥
jan naanak har naam Dhan ladi-aa sadaa vayparvaahu. ||7||
Devotee Nanak has loaded the wealth of the Name of God, who is forever carefree. ||7||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਥਾਜ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਲੱਦਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੭॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
is jug meh bhagtee har Dhan khati-aa hor sabh jagat bharam bhulaa-i-aa.
It is only the devotees of God who have earned the wealth of God’s Name in the human life; all the rest of the world wanders deluded in doubt.
ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
gur parsaadee naam man vasi-aa an-din naam Dhi-aa-i-aa.
By the Guru’s grace, one who realizes God’s presence in his mind, always remembers Him with loving devotion.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥
bikhi-aa maahi udaas hai ha-umai sabad jalaa-i-aa.
In the midst of Maya (worldly allurements), he remains detached from it and burns away his ego through the Guru’s word.
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
aap tari-aa kul uDhray Dhan janaydee maa-i-aa.
He swims across the worldly ocean of vices and saves his entire lineage as well; blessed is the mother who gave birth to him.
ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ) ਕੁਲਾਂ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੰਮਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਂ!
ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sadaa sahj sukh man vasi-aa sachay si-o liv laa-i-aa.
Celestial peace and poise prevails his mind forever and he remains attuned to the eternal God.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭੁਲੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
barahmaa bisan mahaaday-o tarai gun bhulay ha-umai moh vaDhaa-i-aa.
Even the angels like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva wander in the three modes of Maya (vice, virtues and power), their ego and worldly desires keep multiplying.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ, ਸ਼ਿਵ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਮੋਨੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
pandit parh parh monee bhulay doojai bhaa-ay chit laa-i-aa.
The pundits by reading scriptures and the sages by remaining silent, have gone astray, because they too have attached their mind to the love of worldly wealth.
ਪੰਡਤ ਗ੍ਰੰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ,ਅਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਮੋਨ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਚਿੱਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੋੜ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jogee jangam sani-aasee bhulay vin gur tat na paa-i-aa.
The Yogis, wandering pilgrims and Sanyasis are deluded because without the Guru’s teachings, they too have not realized the essence of reality.
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਭੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਵਸਤ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਭੀ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
manmukh dukhee-ay sadaa bharam bhulay tinHee birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa.
The self-willed people always remain miserable; deluded by doubt, they waste their life in vain.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਸਮਧੇ ਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
naanak naam ratay say-ee jan samDhay je aapay bakhas milaa-i-aa. ||1||
O Nanak, those who are imbued with Naam, their life is spiritually fulfilled; God Himself bestows mercy and unites them with Him. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਸਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
naanak so salaahee-ai jis vas sabh kichh ho-ay.
O’ Nanak, we should praise that God, under whose control is everything.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਇਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਹੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
tiseh sarayvhu paraaneeho tis bin avar na ko-ay.
O’ mortals, always remember that God; without Him there is none other at all.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਓ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
gurmukh antar man vasai sadaa sadaa sukh ho-ay. ||2||
Through the Guru’s grace, God becomes manifest in the mind and he remains in celestial peace forever. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਨ ਖਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਦੇਵਾਲੀਏ ਜੁਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jinee gurmukh har naam Dhan na khati-o say dayvaalee-ay jug maahi.
Those who have not earned the wealth of God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings, have lost the game of life and are spiritually bankrupt in this world.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਮਾਇਆ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਚੁਕੇ ਸਮਝੋ ।
ਓਇ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਭ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਹਿ ਥੁਕ ਨ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
o-ay mangday fireh sabh jagat meh ko-ee muhi thuk na tin ka-o paahi.
They may wander around begging all over the world, but are ignored by all.
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਥੁੱਕਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਪਰਾਈ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਖੋਵਨਿ ਸਗਵਾ ਭੀ ਆਪੁ ਲਖਾਹਿ ॥
paraa-ee bakheelee karahi aapnee parteet khovan sagvaa bhee aap lakhaahi.
They slander others, lose their trust and expose their bad character as well.
ਉਹ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣਾ ਇਤਬਾਰ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ;, ਸਗੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਭੈੜਾ ਅਸਲਾ ਨਸ਼ਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਓਇ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jis Dhan kaaran chuglee karahi so Dhan chuglee hath na aavai o-ay bhaavai tithai jaahi.
No matter where they go, they don’t even get that wealth for which they slander others.
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਥੇ ਜੀ ਚਾਹੇ ਜਾਣ, ਜਿਸ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਚੁਗ਼ਲੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਚੁਗਲੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਧਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
