ਤੂ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਲੈਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
too sukh-daata laihi milaa-ay.
You are the provider of celestial peace; You merge them into Yourself.
ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਏਕਸ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
aykas tay doojaa naahee ko-ay.
Everything comes from the one God; there is no other at all.
ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਇਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੯॥
gurmukh boojhai sojhee ho-ay. ||9||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, understands this and becomes spiritually wise. ||9||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੯॥
ਪੰਦ੍ਰਹ ਥਿਤੀ ਤੈ ਸਤ ਵਾਰ ॥
pandreh thiteeN tai sat vaar.
Just as the fifteen lunar days and the seven days of the week,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਤ ਵਾਰ,
ਮਾਹਾ ਰੁਤੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਾਰ ਵਾਰ ॥ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
maahaa rutee aavahi vaar vaar.dinas rain tivai sansaar.
the months, seasons, day and night keep coming over and over again, similar is this world (living beings keep going in the cycle of birth and death).
ਮਹੀਨੇ, ਰੁੱਤਾਂ, ਰਾਤ, ਦਿਨ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
aavaa ga-on kee-aa kartaar.
It is the Creator-God, who has established this cycle of birth and death.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਕਲ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
nihchal saach rahi-aa kal Dhaar.
The eternal God Himself is pervading everywhere by His almighty power.
ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੱਤਾ ਟਿਕਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੧॥
naanak gurmukh boojhai ko sabad veechaar. ||10||1||
O’ Nanak, it is only a rare Guru’s follower who understands this fact by reflecting on the Guru’s word. ||10||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥੧॥

Raag Bilaaval, Third Guru:
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
aad purakh aapay sarisat saajay.
The Primal God Himself created the Universe,
ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਾਜੇ ॥
jee-a jant maa-i-aa mohi paajay.
and has engaged all the beings to the love for Maya.
(ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਰਪੰਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay parpanch laagay.
But instead of God, they are engrossed in the love for illusory material world.
(ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
aavahi jaaveh mareh abhaagay.
These unfortunate beings remain spiritually dead and remain in the cycle of birth and death.
ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਜੀਵ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
satgur bhayti-ai sojhee paa-ay.
If someone meets the true Guru and follows his teachings, then he receives the true understanding about righteous living;
ਜੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ;
ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
parpanch chookai sach samaa-ay. ||1||
his illusion of the material world ends and he merges in the eternal God. ||1||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
jaa kai mastak likhi-aa laykh.
One who has good preordained destiny,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਲਭਧ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taa kai man vasi-aa parabh ayk. ||1|| rahaa-o.
only God enshrines within his mind. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
sarisat upaa-ay aapay sabh vaykhai.
Upon creating the universe, God Himself takes care of it.
ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
ko-ay na maytai tayrai laykhai.
O’ God, no one (by his own efforts) can erase what You have preordained.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਲੇਖ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
siDh saaDhik jay ko kahai kahaa-ay.
If someone egotistically calls himself or lets him be called an adept or a seeker,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧ, ਸਾਧਿਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa aavai jaa-ay.
is deluded by doubt and remains in the cycle of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
satgur sayvai so jan boojhai.
One who follows the true Guru’s teachings, understands the righteous way of living.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੨॥
ha-umai maaray taa dar soojhai. ||2||
When one erases his ego, then he experiences the blessed vision of God. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਏਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੂਆ ॥
aykas tay sabh doojaa hoo-aa.
Everything else came into existence from one God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥
ayko vartai avar na bee-aa.
The One God is pervading everywhere; there is no other at all.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੇ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
doojay tay jay ayko jaanai.
Renouncing duality (visible false world), if one comes to realize the One-God,
ਜੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਇਸ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਜਗਤ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਤੋਂ (ਉੱਚਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖੇ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥
gur kai sabad har dar neesaanai.
then through the Guru’s word and his blessings, he reaches God’s presence.
ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਸਮੇਤ (ਬਿਨਾ ਰੋਕ-ਟੋਕ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
satgur bhaytay taa ayko paa-ay.
If one meets the true Guru and follows his teachings, then he realizes God.
ਜੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੩॥
vichahu doojaa thaak rahaa-ay. ||3||
and conquers the love for duality from within. ||3||
ਅਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਡਾਢਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
jis daa saahib daadhaa ho-ay.
One who is under the protection of the most powerful Master-God,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਖਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਬਲੀ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis no maar na saakai ko-ay.
No one can destroy him.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਢਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
saahib kee sayvak rahai sarnaa-ee.
The devotee who remains in the refuge of the Master-God;
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
aapay bakhsay day vadi-aa-ee.
God Himself bestows mercy on him and blesses him with glory.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis tay oopar naahee ko-ay.
When there is none higher or more powerful than God,
ਜਦ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਕਉਣੁ ਡਰੈ ਡਰੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
ka-un darai dar kis kaa ho-ay. ||4||
then why should His devotee be afraid of anyone and what should he be afraid of ? ||4||
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਡਰੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਸਦਾ ਭੈ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰੇ? ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
gurmatee saaNt vasai sareer.
By following the Guru’s teachings, a state of peace comes to abide in the body.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਪੀਰ ॥
sabad cheeneh fir lagai na peer.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word, one does not endure any pain.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ।
ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
aavai na jaa-ay naa dukh paa-ay.
He does not go through the cycle of birth and death or suffer in sorrow.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ।
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
naamay raatay sahj samaa-ay.
People imbued with God’s Name, imperceptibly remain merged in celestial peace.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
naanak gurmukh vaykhai hadoor.
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s follower always experiences God besides him,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੫॥
mayraa parabh sad rahi-aa bharpoor. ||5||
(and says), my God is always fully pervading everywhere. ||5||
(ਅਤੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਇਕਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
ik sayvak ik bharam bhulaa-ay.
God has made many His devotees, while many others wander, deluded by doubt.
ਕਈ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਪਾ ਕੇ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aapay karay har aap karaa-ay.
God Himself does and causes everything to be done.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ayko vartai avar na ko-ay.
God Himself is all-pervading; there is no other at all.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
man ros keejai jay doojaa ho-ay.
One could protest in his mind about, if there were any other besides Him.
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ ਜੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਤੇ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
satgur sayvay karnee saaree.
Those who follow the true Guru’s teachings, their deeds are the most sublime,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾ ਦੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
dar saachai saachay veechaaree. ||6||
and they are considered truly thoughtful in God’s presence. ||6||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਮੰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥
thitee vaar sabh sabad suhaa-ay.
All the lunar days and the days of the week are auspicious, only if one attunes to the Guru’s word.
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਾਰ (ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਹਨ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
satgur sayvay taa fal paa-ay.
If one follows the true Guru’s teachings, only then he receives the reward of human life.
ਜੇਕਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
thitee vaar sabh aavahi jaahi.
These lunar and solar days all come and go.
ਇਹ ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਵਾਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
gur sabad nihchal sadaa sach samaahi.
Only the Guru’s word is eternal, through which people remain merged in the eternal God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
thitee vaar taa jaa sach raatay.
The lunar days and days of the week are auspicious, when one is imbued with love of the eternal God.
(ਇਹ) ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਵਾਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ ਭਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥੭॥
bin naavai sabh bharmeh kaachay. ||7||
People without the wealth of Naam are spiritually weak and they remain wandering in doubt. ||7||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਬਿਗਤੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
manmukh mareh mar bigtee jaahi.
The self-willed people remain spiritually dead and after their physical death they depart from here as sinners.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਰ ਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਮੰਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਏਕੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਹਿ ॥
ayk na cheeteh doojai lobhaahi.
They do not remember God and remain allured by the love for Maya.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ (ਕਦੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ; ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਚੇਤ ਪਿੰਡੀ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥
achayt pindee agi-aan anDhaar.
One who is foolish, spiritually ignorant and blinded by the love for Maya,
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ-
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਏ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
bin sabdai ki-o paa-ay paar.
cannot cross over the worldly ocean of vices without reflecting on the Guru’s divine word.
ਸਬਦ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
aap upaa-ay upaavanhaar.
The Creator Himself has created all living beings,
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੮॥
aapay keeton gur veechaar. ||8||
and He Himself has created the thought of contemplating the Guru’s word. ||8||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
bahutay bhaykh karahi bhaykh-Dhaaree.
The pseudo saints (pretenders) wear all sorts of religious robes,
ਨਿਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਭਵਿ ਭਵਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
bhav bhav bharmeh kaachee saaree.
and like the unsuccessful pieces of a board-game, they keep wandering in different places of pilgrimage.
ਉਹ ਕੱਚੀਆਂ ਨਰਦਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਤੀਰਥ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਈ ਥਾਈਂ) ਭੌਂ ਭੋਂ ਕੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,।
ਐਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
aithai sukh na aagai ho-ay.
They find no spiritual peace, here or hereafter.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
