ਜੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
jo daykh dikhaavai tis ka-o bal jaa-ee.
I am dedicated to that Guru who himself realizes God in all and helps others to realize Him.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਵਿਖਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
gur parsaad param pad paa-ee. ||1||
It is by the Guru’s grace, that I can receive the supreme spiritual status. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਪਦਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥
ki-aa jap jaapa-o bin jagdeesai.
Except remembering God, why should I worship anyone else?
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜਾਪ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਾਂ?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kai sabad mahal ghar deesai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God can be realized pervading everywhere only by remembering Him with adoration through the Guru’s word. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਦਰ-ਘਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay lagay pachhutaanay.
The second day: Those who are in love with something other than God, regret in the end,
ਦੂਜੀ (ਤਿੱਥ): ਜਿਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੇ ॥
jam dar baaDhay aavan jaanay.
they remain in the grip of the fear of the demon of death and remain in the cycle of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਵਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
ki-aa lai aavahi ki-aa lay jaahi.
What have they brought, and what will they take with them when they go? (they did not amass the real wealth of Naam which accompanies one in the end).
ਉਹ ਕੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਲੈ ਜਾਣਗੇ? (ਆਤਮਕ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਤਾਂ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ)
ਸਿਰਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
sir jamkaal se chotaa khaahi.
The fear of the demon of death always keeps hovering over their heads and they endure its sufferings.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਖੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਇਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥
bin gur sabad na chhootas ko-ay.
No one can escape the spiritual deterioration without following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
pakhand keenHai mukat na ho-ay. ||2||
No one finds liberation from vices by practicing hypocrisy. ||2||
ਪਖੰਡ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਬਣਾਇਆਂ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ॥
aapay sach kee-aa kar jorh.
God Himself is eternal; He created this universe through His command.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਂਡ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਡਜ ਫੋੜਿ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿ ॥
andaj forh jorh vichhorh.
By breaking the cosmic egg-like universe, He created different continents and keeps these separate in their positions.
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਡੇ ਵਾਕੁਰ ਗੋਲਾਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਮੰਡਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਚ ਕੇ, ਸਾਈਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਟਿਕਾ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੈ
ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਕੀਏ ਬੈਸਣ ਕਉ ਥਾਉ ॥
Dharat akaas kee-ay baisan ka-o thaa-o.
God created the earth and the sky as the place for the creatures to live.
ਇਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਥਾਂ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤੁ ਕੀਏ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ॥
raat dinant kee-ay bha-o bhaa-o.
God created day and night and the sense of fear and love in the creatures.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਡਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
jin kee-ay kar vaykhanhaaraa.
God who created the creatures, after creating He also watches over them.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
avar na doojaa sirjanhaaraa. ||3||
(Except God) there is no other Creator. ||3||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ (ਇਸ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਂਡ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥
taritee-aa barahmaa bisan mahaysaa.
The third lunar day: God created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ,
ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਸਾ ॥
dayvee dayv upaa-ay vaysaa.
God also created other gods, goddesses and various other manifestations.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹਸਤੀਆਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ।
ਜੋਤੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
jotee jaatee ganat na aavai.
He created so many powers that emit light, which cannot be counted.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਇਤਨੀਆਂ ਹਸਤੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jin saajee so keemat paavai.
God who fashioned the universe, knows its worth.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਹੀ) ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
keemat paa-ay rahi-aa bharpoor.
God values it so much that He is fully pervading it.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥
kis nayrhai kis aakhaa door. ||4||
I cannot say, to whom He is close and to whom He is far? ||4||
ਮੈਂ ਕੀਹ ਦੱਸਾਂ ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੈ? ॥੪॥
ਚਉਥਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦਾ ॥
cha-uth upaa-ay chaaray baydaa.
The fourth lunar day: God Himself created the four Vedas,
ਚੌਥੀ (ਤਿੱਥ): ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਚਾਰ ਵੇਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ,
ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਭੇਦਾ ॥
khaanee chaaray banee bhaydaa.
the four sources of creation of creatures, and distinct forms of speech.
ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ-ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ) ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣਾਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਖਟੁ ਤੀਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
asat dasaa khat teen upaa-ay.
God Himself created the eighteen Puraanas, the six Shaastras and the three modes of Maya (vice, virtue and power).
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਤਿੰਨ (ਗੁਣ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
so boojhai jis aap bujhaa-ay.
He alone understands (this mystery) whom God causes to understand.
ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ।
ਤੀਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਚਉਥੈ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
teen samaavai cha-uthai vaasaa.
One who rises above the three modes of Maya, and enters the fourth state (the supreme spiritual status),
ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਮੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੫॥
paranvat naanak ham taa kay daasaa. ||5||
Prays Nanak, I am devotee of that person. ||5||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ ॥੫॥
ਪੰਚਮੀ ਪੰਚ ਭੂਤ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥
panchmee panch bhoot baytaalaa.
The fifth lunar day: The human beings who remain under the influence of the five elements (Maya), are strayed from righteous living and act like demons.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਵਿਰਤ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਚ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਆਪਿ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
aap agochar purakh niraalaa.
The all pervading God Himself is unfathomable and detached from everything.
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ (-ਪੁਰਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ॥
ik bharam bhookhay moh pi-aasay.
Many people gripped by doubt are yearning for undue worldly desires, and are entangled in the love for Maya.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅਧੀਨ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਇਕਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ॥
ik ras chaakh sabad tariptaasay.
But many others remain satiated from Maya by following the Guru’s divine word and tasting the nectar of Naam.
ਪਰ ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਮਰਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
ik rang raatay ik mar Dhoor.
Many are imbued with God’s love, while others are spiritually dead and are reduced to dust.
ਕਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋਏ ਪਏ ਹਨ
ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੬॥
ik dar ghar saachai daykh hadoor. ||6||
There are many who upon realizing the eternal God besides them, always remain in His presence. ||6||
ਇਕ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਝੂਠੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
jhoothay ka-o naahee pat naa-o.
That person, who is in love with only Maya, receives no honor anywhere.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ-ਆਦਰ ਨਸੀਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਕਾਉ ॥
kabahu na soochaa kaalaa kaa-o.
That person can never become pious whose mind has become pitch black like a crow due to sinful thoughts.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਪੰਖੀ ਬੰਧਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥
pinjar pankhee banDhi-aa ko-ay.
The state of a person engrossed in Maya and sinful thoughts is like a bird imprisoned in a cage,
ਕੋਈ ਪੰਛੀ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ,
ਛੇਰੀਂ ਭਰਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
chhayreeN bharmai mukat na ho-ay.
who keeps struggling to come out through the small openings of the cage, but cannot obtain freedom from the cage.
ਉਹ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਰਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ) ਪਿਆ ਭਟਕੇ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਦੀ) ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤਉ ਛੂਟੈ ਜਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥
ta-o chhootai jaa khasam chhadaa-ay.
Just as the bird can be freed only by its owner, similarly the person trapped in the love for Maya and sinful thoughts can be released only by God.
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇਵੇ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਦ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੭॥
gurmat maylay bhagat drirh-aa-ay. ||7||
God unites that person to the Guru’s teachings and firmly enshrines devotional worship in his heart. ||7||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਖਸਟੀ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
khastee khat darsan parabh saajay.
The sixth lunar day: To realizes God, six sects (Yogis, Sanyasis, Jangam, Bodhi, Sarevarreys, and the Bairagis) have been established in Hinduism.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਛੇ ਭੇਖ (ਜੋਗੀ, ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ, ਜੰਗਮ, ਬੋਧੀ, ਸਰੇਵੜੇ, ਬੈਰਾਗੀ) ਬਣਾਏ ਗਏ,
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਵਾਜੇ ॥
anhad sabad niraalaa vaajay.
But the continuous melody of God’s praises is quite different from these sects.
ਪਰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ -ਵਾਜਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
jay parabh bhaavai taa mahal bulaavai.
If God likes someone, then He keeps that person in His refuge.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ) ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਭੇਦੇ ਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
sabday bhayday ta-o pat paavai.
One receives honor in God’s presence only when one firmly enshrines the divine word of God’s praises in his heart.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਲਏ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਸ ਖਪਹਿ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
kar kar vays khapeh jal jaaveh.
The worldly people get spiritually ruined wearing religious garb and get burnt by their worldly desires.
(ਭੇਖੀ ਸਾਧ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਖਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੮॥
saachai saachay saach samaaveh. ||8||
But the true seekers merge in the eternal God by always remembering Him. ||8||
ਸੱਚੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
ਸਪਤਮੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
saptamee sat santokh sareer.
The seventh lunar day: One within whom are such divine virtues as truth and contentment,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਵਿੱਚ ਸਤ-ਸੰਤੋਖ ਆਦਿ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਣ,
ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਭਰੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨੀਰਿ ॥
saat samund bharay nirmal neer.
his seven seas (skin, tongue, eyes, ears, nose, mind and intellect) get filled with the immaculate nectar of Naam.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਤੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਪੰਜ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ,ਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਧੀ) ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਜਨੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
majan seel sach ridai veechaar.
One who acquires good conduct and reflects on the eternal God enshrined in his heart,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ (ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਆਚਰਨ-ਰੂਪ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
gur kai sabad paavai sabh paar.
he saves all (his sensory organs, mind and intellect) from the vices through the Guru’s divine word.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪੰਜੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ, ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬੁੱਧੀ) ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ( ਬਚਾਅ) ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਉ ਭਾਇ ॥
man saachaa mukh saacha-o bhaa-ay.
One in whose mind is enshrined the eternal God and from his mouth lovingly utters His Name,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਹਿਤ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੯॥
sach neesaanai thaak na paa-ay. ||9||
is blessed with the insignia of Truth and meets with no obstructions in the spiritual journey of life. ||9||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਾਪਰਦੀ ॥੯॥
ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਾਧੈ ॥
astamee asat siDh buDh saaDhai.
The eighth day: One who keeps under control one’s intellect, which craves to acquire eight miraclous powers,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਅੱਠ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਅਰਾਧੈ ॥
sach nihkayval karam araaDhai.
remembers the eternal and immaculate God through righteous deeds,
ਜੋ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਿਮਰੇ,
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਬਿਸਰਾਉ ॥
pa-un paanee agnee bisraa-o.
and forsakes the impulses of power, virtue, and vice,
ਜੋ ਰਜੋ ਸਤੋ ਅਤੇ ਤਮੋ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦੇਵੇ,
ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
tahee niranjan saacho naa-o.
he realizes the Name of the eternal and immaculate God dwelling in his heart.
ਉਸੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
tis meh manoo-aa rahi-aa liv laa-ay. paranvat naanak kaal na khaa-ay. ||10||
Nanak says! one whose mind always remains attuned to that God, death does not devour his spiritual life. ||10||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਬਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ ॥੧੦॥
ਨਾਉ ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਨਾਥ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਾ ॥
naa-o na-umee navay naath nav khanda.
The ninth day: One whose Name is remembered by the nine masters of the yogis and creatures living in the nine realms of the earth,
ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਨਾਥ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਨੌਂ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਵੰਡਾ ॥
ghat ghat naath mahaa balvandaa.
is the extremely powerful Master-God pervading in each and every heart.
ਅਸਲ ਨਾਥ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮਹਾ ਬਲੀ ਹੈ।
