ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
naanak ka-o parabh kirpaa keejai naytar daykheh daras tayraa. ||1||
O’ God, bestow mercy on Nanak that his spiritually enlightened eyes may always keep beholding Your blessed Vision. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਆਂ) ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿਣ ॥੧॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਨ ਦੀਜਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਣੀਅਹਿ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
kot karan deejeh parabh pareetam har gun sunee-ah abhinaasee raam.
O’ my beloved imperishable God, bless me with the listening power of millions of ears so that I may listen to all of Your infinite virtues.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹਰੀ! (ਜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਕੰਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਣੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਟੀਐ ਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
sun sun ih man nirmal hovai katee-ai kaal kee faasee raam.
By listening again and again to God’s praises, one’s mind becomes immaculate and the noose of spiritual death is cut off.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਫਾਸੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਸਗਲ ਮੰਗਲ ਸੁਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
katee-ai jam faasee simar abhinaasee sagal mangal sugi-aanaa.
Yes, by meditating on the imperishable God, one’s noose of death is cut off, one feels happy and spiritually knowledgeable.
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
har har jap japee-ai din raatee laagai sahj Dhi-aanaa.
O’ my friends, we should always meditate on God’s Name, by doing so the mind remains attuned to Him in a state of spiritual poise.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਲਮਲ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਸੀ ॥
kalmal dukh jaaray parabhoo chitaaray man kee durmat naasee.
By remembering God, all one’s sins and sufferings are burnt away and the mind’s evil intellect goes away.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਨ ਦੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਣੀਅਹਿ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ॥੨॥
kaho naanak parabh kirpaa keejai har gun sunee-ah avinaasee. ||2||
Nanak says, O’ eternalGod! bestow mercy that I may listen to Your virtues. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣੇ ਜਾਣ ॥੨॥
ਕਰੋੜਿ ਹਸਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਚਰਣ ਚਲਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ॥
karorh hasat tayree tahal kamaaveh charan chaleh parabh maarag raam.
O’ God! bless me with the power of millions of hands to serve You and let my feet walk on Your path.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਬਖਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੋਰ।
ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਾਵ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਚੜੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਾਰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ॥
bhav saagar naav har sayvaa jo charhai tis taarag raam.
Devotional service of God is like a boat; whoever embarks on it, God ferries him across the dreadful worldly ocean of vices.
ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਬੇੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
bhavjal tari-aa har har simri-aa sagal manorath pooray.
Whoever has remembered God with loving devotion, has crossed the dreadful worldly ocean of vices and all his wishes have been fulfilled.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਗਏ ਸੁਖ ਉਪਜੇ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰੇ ॥
mahaa bikaar ga-ay sukh upjay baajay anhad tooray.
His worst vices go away, celestial peace wells up and he feels as if continuous melody of divine music is playing within.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਮਾਨੋ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੀਮ ਅਪਾਰਗਿ ॥
man baaNchhat fal paa-ay saglay kudrat keem apaarag.
All the desires of his mind are fulfilled; O’ God! Your infinite creation is priceless.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਆਂ। (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਇਸ ਅਪਾਰ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਚਲੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ॥੩॥
kaho naanak parabh kirpaa keejai man sadaa chalai tayrai maarag. ||3||
Nanak says, O’ God! bestow mercy that my mind may follow Your path forever. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੩॥
ਏਹੋ ਵਰੁ ਏਹਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
ayho var ayhaa vadi-aa-ee ih Dhan ho-ay vadbhaagaa raam.
Being attuned to God’s Name is the true blessing, glory, wealth and good fortune,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਧਨ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਹੈ।
ਏਹੋ ਰੰਗੁ ਏਹੋ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
ayho rang ayho ras bhogaa har charnee man laagaa raam.
yes, being attuned to God’s Name is the true pleasure and true enjoyment.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੋਗਣਾ,
ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਚਰਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੇ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
man laagaa charnay parabh kee sarnay karan kaaran gopaalaa.
One whose mind gets attuned to God’s Name, remains in the refuge of the Creator and Master of the world.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀਂ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
sabh kichh tayraa too parabh mayraa mayray thaakur deen da-i-aalaa.
O’ my Master-God, the merciful master of the meek, everything belongs to You.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹਰੇਕ ਦਾਤ (ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
mohi nirgun pareetam sukh saagar satsang man jaagaa.
O my beloved God, the ocean of celestial peace, I am unvirtuous but in the company of the saints my mind is spiritually awakened from the love for Maya.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਾਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥
kaho naanak parabh kirpaa keenHee charan kamal man laagaa. ||4||3||6||
Nanak says: God bestowed mercy and my mind became attuned to His immaculate Name. ||4||3||6||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਮ ॥
har japay har mandar saaji-aa sant bhagat gun gaavahi raam.
God fashioned the human body as a temple to meditate; the Saints and the devotees sing God’s praises in this body-temple.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ-ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲਈ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨ ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਸਗਲੇ ਪਾਪ ਤਜਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਮ ॥
simar simar su-aamee parabh apnaa saglay paap tajaaveh raam.
They get all their sins eradicated by always remembering their Master-God with loving devotion.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
har gun gaa-ay param pad paa-i-aa parabh kee ootam banee.
By singing the praises of God through the sublime divine words, they have obtained the supreme spiritual status.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਤਾਂ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਹਜ ਕਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਅਤਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਕਥੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥
sahj kathaa parabh kee at meethee kathee akath kahaanee.
Extremely sweet are the celestial poise- producing divine words of God’s praises, and the true saints have described His indescribable praises.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਅਤਿ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਅਕੱਥ ਕਹਾਟੀ ਕਥੀ ਹੈ।
ਭਲਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਪਲੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਬਿਚਲ ਨੀਵ ਰਖਾਈ ॥
bhalaa sanjog moorat pal saachaa abichal neev rakhaa-ee.
Auspicious, blessed and true moment comes when the permanent foundation for singing God’s praises is laid in this body-temple.
ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ) ਸ਼ੁਭ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਆ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਆ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਹਿੱਲਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨੀਂਹ ਰੱਖੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ॥੧॥
jan naanak parabh bha-ay da-i-aalaa sarab kalaa ban aa-ee. ||1||
Devotee Nanak says, one on whom God bestows mercy, all divinely powers become manifest in him. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਤਕੜੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਤਾਕਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਆਨੰਦਾ ਵਜਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਵਾਜੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
aanandaa vajeh nit vaajay paarbarahm man voothaa raam.
One in whose mind God becomes manifest, he feels as if the bliss producing musical instruments are continuously playing within him.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਨੋ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖੇ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਝੂਠਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
gurmukhay sach karnee saaree binsay bharam bhai jhoothaa raam.
His doubts, fears and falsehood vanish and lovingly remembering God through the Guru’s teachings becomes his sublime deed.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਰਮ ਡਰ ਝੂਠ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਤੱਬ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ॥
anhad banee gurmukh vakhaanee jas sun sun man tan hari-aa.
He keeps uttering the blissful divine words through the Guru’s teachings; his mind and body get spiritually rejuvenated by always listening to God’s praises.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਬਣਿ ਆਏ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਰਿਆ ॥
sarab sukhaa tis hee ban aa-ay jo parabh apnaa kari-aa.
O’ my friend, all kinds of comforts and peace have come to that person, whom God has made His own.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ (ਪਿਆਰਾ) ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ।
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
ghar meh nav niDh bharay bhandaaraa raam naam rang laagaa.
One who gets imbued with the love of God’s Name, feels as if he has received all the treasures of the world.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਨੋ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੇ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੨॥
naanak jan parabh kaday na visrai pooran jaa kay bhaagaa. ||2||
O’ Nanak, the devotee whose destiny is perfect, never forgets God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਦਾਸ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਛਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਗਲੀ ਤਪਤਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
chhaa-i-aa parabh chhatarpat keenHee saglee tapat binaasee raam.
One whom God, the sovereign king, provided His protection, the fire of all his worldly desires got totally extinguished.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸੜਨ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਦੂਖ ਪਾਪ ਕਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਾਠਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਇਆ ਰਾਸੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
dookh paap kaa dayraa dhaathaa kaaraj aa-i-aa raasee raam.
He felt as if the source of his sorrows and sins has been demolished and his life’s purpose has been accomplished.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੱਡਾ ਹੀ ਢਹਿ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਮਿਟੀ ਬਲਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਫਲਿਆ ॥
har parabh furmaa-i-aa mitee balaa-i-aa saach Dharam punn fali-aa.
When God so commanded, the effect of worldly riches and power vanished and the righteous deed of remembering God flourished within him.
ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ -ਬਲਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕਰਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਧਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
