ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
aavan jaanaa reh ga-ay man vuthaa nirankaar jee-o.
O’ my friends, a personin whose mind the formless God comes to abide, that person’s cycle of birth and death ceases forever.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
taa kaa ant na paa-ee-ai oochaa agam apaar jee-o.
The virtues of that Almighty are beyond any limit; He is the highest of the high, inaccessible and infinite.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥
jis parabh apnaa visrai so mar jammai lakh vaar jee-o. ||6||
One who forsakes God, dies and gets born millions of times. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਾਚੁ ਨੇਹੁ ਤਿਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
saach nayhu tin pareetamaa jin man vuthaa aap jee-o.
Those who realize their beloved God in their mind, they alone bear true love and yearning for Him,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਣ ਸਾਝੀ ਤਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸੇ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਪਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
gun saajhee tin sang basay aath pahar parabh jaap jee-o.
Those who reside in their company and share their merits, always meditate on God’s Name with loving devotion.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭੀ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੈ ਹਨ।
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥
rang ratay parmaysrai binsay sagal santaap jee-o. ||7||
Those who are imbued with the love of God, all their troubles and maladies are destroyed. ||7||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਤੂਹੈ ਏਕੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੀਉ ॥
tooN kartaa tooN karanhaar toohai ayk anayk jee-o.
O’ God, You are the Creator and the doer of everything; You Yourself are theOne and You yourself are the myriads of forms.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਇੱਕ ਹੈਂ, ਅਨੇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਤੂਹੈ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਜੀਉ ॥
too samrath too sarab mai toohai buDh bibayk jee-o.
You are all powerful, You pervade in all and You alone have the wisdom to discriminate between good and bad.
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ, ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ) ਪਰਖ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਜਪੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥
naanak naam sadaa japee bhagat janaa kee tayk jee-o. ||8||1||3||
Nanak says, O’ God, if You show mercy, I want to meditate on Your Name for ever with the support of Your devotees. ||8||1||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਭੁਲੀ ਜੇ ਚੁਕੀ ਸਾਈ ਭੀ ਤਹਿੰਜੀ ਕਾਢੀਆ ॥
jay bhulee jay chukee saa-eeN bhee tahinjee kaadhee-aa.
O’ my Master, even if I have erred or have strayed,still I am known as Yours.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਕਾਇਆਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਅਖਵਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਦੂਜਾਣੇ ਲਗਾ ਝੂਰਿ ਮਰਹੁ ਸੇ ਵਾਢੀਆ ॥੧॥
jinHaa nayhu doojaanay lagaa jhoor marahu say vaadhee-aa. ||1||
Those who attune to the love of others instead of You, spiritually die grieving miserably. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਛੁੱਟੜਾਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਝੁਰ ਝੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਹਉ ਨਾ ਛੋਡਉ ਕੰਤ ਪਾਸਰਾ ॥
ha-o naa chhoda-o kant paasraa.
I would never forsake the company of my Husband-God.
ਮੈਂ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪਾਸਾ (ਕਦੇ ਭੀ) ਨਾਹ ਛੱਡਾਂਗੀ।
ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੀਲਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਏਹੁ ਮਹਿੰਜਾ ਆਸਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sadaa rangeelaa laal pi-aaraa ayhu mahinjaa aasraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He is my ever lively, endearing beloved, and He is my only support. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਜਣੁ ਤੂਹੈ ਸੈਣੁ ਤੂ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਉਪਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣੀਆ ॥
sajan toohai sain too mai tujh upar baho maanee-aa.
O’ God, You are my well wisher, You are support, and I have great pride in You.
ਹੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਤੂ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਮਾਣੀਆ ॥੨॥
jaa too andar taa sukhay tooN nimaanee maanee-aa. ||2||
When I realize You within me, there is peace in my heart; You are the pride of my humble being. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਜੇ ਤੂ ਤੁਠਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਵੇਖਾਲਿ ॥
jay too tuthaa kirpaa niDhaan naa doojaa vaykhaal.
O’ the treasure of kindness, if You have become gracious upon me, then please don’t make me seek the help of any other.
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ, ਤਾਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਆਸਰਾ) ਨਾਹ ਵਿਖਾਈਂ।
ਏਹਾ ਪਾਈ ਮੂ ਦਾਤੜੀ ਨਿਤ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
ayhaa paa-ee moo daat-rhee nit hirdai rakhaa samaal. ||3||
Please bestow only this small gift upon me that I may always keep You carefully enshrined in my heart. ||3||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹੋ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਦਾਤ ਲੱਭੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਪਾਵ ਜੁਲਾਈ ਪੰਧ ਤਉ ਨੈਣੀ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਲਿ ॥
paav julaa-ee panDh ta-o nainee daras dikhaal.
O’ God, I also wish that I may walk on the path of Your union, and pray to You to show Your blessed vision to my eyes.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦੇਸ ਲੈ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੋਰਾਂ। ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਿਖਾਲ।
ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਸੁਣੀ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਜੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਥੀਵੈ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਿ ॥੪॥
sarvanee sunee kahaanee-aa jay gur theevai kirpaal. ||4||
If Guru becomes merciful on me, then I may keep listening to Your immaculate praises with my own ears. ||4||
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦੀ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੪॥
ਕਿਤੀ ਲਖ ਕਰੋੜਿ ਪਿਰੀਏ ਰੋਮ ਨ ਪੁਜਨਿ ਤੇਰਿਆ ॥
kitee lakh karorh piree-ay rom na pujan tayri-aa.
O’ God, no matter how many millions or billions of Your virtues I may describe, they cannot equal Your excellence even a little bit.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੱਸਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਕ ਰੋਮ (ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ) ਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਤੂ ਸਾਹੀ ਹੂ ਸਾਹੁ ਹਉ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰਿਆ ॥੫॥
too saahee hoo saahu ha-o kahi na sakaa gun tayri-aa. ||5||
You are the King of all kings, and I cannot describe all Your virtues. ||5||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੫॥
ਸਹੀਆ ਤਊ ਅਸੰਖ ਮੰਞਹੁ ਹਭਿ ਵਧਾਣੀਆ ॥
sahee-aa ta-oo asaNkh manjahu habh vaDhaanee-aa.
O’ my Beloved, You have unaccountable number of devotees and all are more virtuous than I am.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਹੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਾਸੀਆਂ) ਹਨ। ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਹਿਕ ਭੋਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੀਆ ॥੬॥
hik bhoree nadar nihaal deh daras rang maanee-aa. ||6||
Please bless me with Your glance of grace for a moment, and show me Your blessed vision so that I too may enjoy the bliss of Your love. ||6||
ਇਕ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਲ ਭੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਸਕਾਂ ॥੬॥
ਜੈ ਡਿਠੇ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੀਐ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਵੰਞਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
jai dithay man Dheeree-ai kilvikh vaNnjniH dooray.
That God, seeing whom our mind is comforted and our sins vanish;
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ?
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮਾਉ ਮੈ ਜੋ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥੭॥
so ki-o visrai maa-o mai jo rahi-aa bharpooray. ||7||
why should we forsake Him who is pervading everywhere, O’ my mother. ||7||
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਭਲਾ) ਉਹ (ਪਿਆਰਾ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਸਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਢਹਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
ho-ay nimaanee dheh pa-ee mili-aa sahj subhaa-ay.
When I bowed down and surrendered to Him in humility, He met me intuitively.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ, ਆਜਜ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਾਣ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਪਈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ।
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਇ ॥੮॥੧॥੪॥
poorab likhi-aa paa-i-aa naanak sant sahaa-ay. ||8||1||4||
O, Nanak, this way with the help of the Guru, I have received what was preordained for me. ||8||1||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਕਿਸੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਦਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੪॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੁਕਾਰਨਿ ਪੋਥੀਆ ॥
simrit bayd puraan pukaaran pothee-aa.
The Simritees, the Vedas, the Puraanas and the other holy scriptures proclaim,
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ, ਵੇਦ, ਪੁਰਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਧਾਰਮਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾ ਕੂਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਗਾਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਛੀਆ ॥੧॥
naam binaa sabh koorh gaalHee hochhee-aa. ||1||
That without Naam, everything is false and worthless. ||1||
ਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਫਾਇਦਾ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥
naam niDhaan apaar bhagtaa man vasai.
O’ my friends, the infinite treasure of God’s Name resides within the minds of the devotees,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਮੋਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam maran moh dukh saaDhoo sang nasai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and by remembering Him in the company of the Guru, their pain of birth and death and worldly attachments flees away. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਦਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਰੁੰਨਿਆ ॥
mohi baad ahaNkaar sarpar runni-aa.
Those who indulge in attachment, conflict and egotism surely remain miserable,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਰਥ ਵਿਚ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਮੂਲਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੨॥
sukh na paa-iniH mool naam vichhunni-aa. ||2||
and those who are separated from Naam never find any celestial peace. ||2||
(ਜੋ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ ॥੨॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਧਾਰਿ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬੰਧਿਆ ॥
mayree mayree Dhaar banDhan banDhi-aa.
Those who remain obsessed by their own selfish motives,
ਜੋਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਧਿਆ ॥੩॥
narak surag avtaar maa-i-aa DhanDhi-aa. ||3||
being bound by worldly bonds, they keep going through hell (misery) and heaven (pleasure) ||3||
ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
soDhat soDhat soDh tat beechaari-aa.
O’ my friends, after deliberating and reflecting again and again, I have found this to be the essence of wisdom,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਉਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਹਾਂ
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥
naam binaa sukh naahi sarpar haari-aa. ||4||
that without meditating on Naam, no one can enjoy peace and surely loses the game of life. ||4||
ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
