ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਤੇ ॥
aavahi jaahi anayk mar mar janmatay.
(Without meditating on God’s Name), innumerable people keep coming and going from this world, and are born to die again.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ (ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭੁ ਵਾਦਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਤੇ ॥੫॥
bin boojhay sabh vaad jonee bharmatay. ||5||
(Without spiritual understanding, all their efforts are useless and they keep wandering in reincarnation. ||5||
(ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
jinH ka-o bha-ay da-i-aal tinH saaDhoo sang bha-i-aa.
(Those on whom God becomes merciful, are blessed with the company of the Guru
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਜਨੀ ਜਪਿ ਲਇਆ ॥੬॥
amrit har kaa naam tinHee janee jap la-i-aa. ||6||
(and they lovingly meditate on God’s ambrosial Name. ||6||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਖੋਜਹਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਨੰਤ ਕੇ ॥
khojeh kot asaNkh bahut anant kay.
(O’ my friends, infinite number of persons search for God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ, ਬੇਅੰਤ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਨੇੜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
jis bujhaa-ay aap nayrhaa tis hay. ||7||
(but only that person feels His closeness, whom He Himself blesses with His realization. ||7||
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਨੇੜਤਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ॥
visar naahee daataar aapnaa naam dayh.
(O’ my benefactor God, please bless me with Your Name and bless me that I may never forget You.
ਹੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼। ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾਵਾਂ।
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਉ ਏਹੁ ॥੮॥੨॥੫॥੧੬॥
gun gaavaa din raat naanak chaa-o ayhu. ||8||2||5||16||
(O Nanak, it is my heart-felt desire that I may always keep singing Your praises.||8||2||5||16||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
(One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੰਞੁ ਕੁਚਜੀ ਅੰਮਾਵਣਿ ਡੋਸੜੇ ਹਉ ਕਿਉ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਣਿ ਜਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥
manj kuchjee ammaavan dosrhay ha-o ki-o saho raavan jaa-o jee-o.
(O’ my friends, I am ill-mannered woman with many faults, so how can I go and enjoy the company of my Husband-God?
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ!) ਮੈਂ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਤਨੇ ਐਬ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ (ਇਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ) ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ?
ਇਕ ਦੂ ਇਕਿ ਚੜੰਦੀਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥
ik doo ik charhandee-aa ka-un jaanai mayraa naa-o jee-o.
(Everyone of His soul-brides is more virtuous than the other, who knows even my name?
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਤਾਂ) ਇਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਹਨ, ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਸੇ ਅੰਬੀ ਛਾਵੜੀਏਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
jinHee sakhee saho raavi-aa say ambee chhaavrhee-ayhi jee-o.
(Those brides who have pleased their Husband-God, are very blessed and peaceful as if resting in the shade of the mango tree.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, (ਚੁਮਾਸੇ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਬਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ (ਠੰਢੀਆਂ) ਛਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਸੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੰਞੁ ਨ ਆਵਨੀ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਜੀ ਦੋਸ ਧਰੇਉ ਜੀਉ ॥
say gun manj na aavnee ha-o kai jee dos Dharay-o jee-o.
(I do not possess those virtues, whom can I blame for that?
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਰੀਝਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸ ਅਭਾਗਤਾ ਦਾ) ਦੋਸ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ?
ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਥਰਾ ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਿਆ ਘਿਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥
ki-aa gun tayray vithraa ha-o ki-aa ki-aa ghinaa tayraa naa-o jee-o.
(O’ God, on which of Your infinite virtues may I elaborate and which of Your limitless Names may I use to chant You praises?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ! (ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਦੱਸਾਂ? ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਨਾਮ ਲਵਾਂ?
ਇਕਤੁ ਟੋਲਿ ਨ ਅੰਬੜਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਜਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥
ikat tol na ambrhaa ha-o sad kurbaanai tayrai jaa-o jee-o.
(I cannot come close to even one of Your Virtues; I am dedicated to You forever.
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਸੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭੀ (ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੇਖੇ ਤਕ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੀਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਜਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਤੈ ਮਾਣਿਕੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
su-inaa rupaa rangulaa motee tai maanik jee-o.
(Gold, silver, pearls and rubies are pleasing,
ਸੋਨਾ, ਚਾਂਦੀ, ਮੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ-
ਸੇ ਵਸਤੂ ਸਹਿ ਦਿਤੀਆ ਮੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
say vastoo seh ditee-aa mai tinH si-o laa-i-aa chit jee-o.
(my Husband-God has blessed me with these things, but I have focused my thoughts on them instead of Him.
ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ) ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਮੰਦਰ ਮਿਟੀ ਸੰਦੜੇ ਪਥਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਰਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
mandar mitee sand-rhay pathar keetay raas jee-o.
(My wealth is my beautiful mansions made of bricks and mortar, which have been beautified with stones.
ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪੱਥਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਘਰ-ਇਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਾਸ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਏ।
ਹਉ ਏਨੀ ਟੋਲੀ ਭੁਲੀਅਸੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਬੈਠੀ ਪਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
ha-o aynee tolee bhulee-as tis kant na baithee paas jee-o.
(I have been fooled by these things, and I did not remember my Husband-God who gave me all these things.
ਮੈਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਖਾ ਗਈ, (ਇਹ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਹ ਬੈਠੀ।
ਅੰਬਰਿ ਕੂੰਜਾ ਕੁਰਲੀਆ ਬਗ ਬਹਿਠੇ ਆਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
ambar koonjaa kurlee-aa bag bahithay aa-ay jee-o.
(The soul-bride whose virtues have flown away like the flamingos and only thevices like the herons are left within her,
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਗੁਣ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਪਰੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਰੇ ਪਖੰਡ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ,
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਚਲੀ ਸਾਹੁਰੈ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਅਗੈ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
saa Dhan chalee saahurai ki-aa muhu daysee agai jaa-ay jee-o.
(when this soul-bride departs from this world, what face will she show in God’s presence?
ਉਹ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕੀਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਖਾਵੇਗੀ?
ਸੁਤੀ ਸੁਤੀ ਝਾਲੁ ਥੀਆ ਭੁਲੀ ਵਾਟੜੀਆਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
sutee sutee jhaal thee-aa bhulee vaatrhee-aas jee-o.
(I have spent my youth engrossed in the love for worldly riches and power and now in old age, I find that I have forgotten the righteous path in life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਪਏ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੁਢੇਪਾ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਖੁੰਝੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੈ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਹੁ ਮੁਤੀਅਸੁ ਦੁਖਾ ਕੂੰ ਧਰੀਆਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
tai sah naalahu mutee-as dukhaa kooN Dharee-aas jee-o.
(O’ my Husband God! I have been separated from You and I have experienced only the pains and sorrows.
ਹੇ ਪਤੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨਿਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹੇੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਗੁਣ ਮੈ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣਾ ਇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
tuDh gun mai sabh avganaa ik naanak kee ardaas jee-o.
(O’ God! this is the humble submission of Nanak: You have all the virtues and I am full of vices.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਔਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਹੈ,
ਸਭਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮੈ ਡੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਤਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
sabh raatee sohaaganee mai dohaagan kaa-ee raat jee-o. ||1||
(All the fortunate soul-brides are imbued with Your love: O God! bless me, theunfortunate one, with a few moments of Your love. ||1||
ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਭਾਗਣ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਇਕ ਰਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਕਦੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ) ॥੧॥
ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਸੁਚਜੀ ॥

(Raag Soohee, First Guru, Suchajee (the Noble and Graceful Bride):
ਜਾ ਤੂ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
jaa too taa mai sabh ko too saahib mayree raas jee-o.
(O’ God, when You are with me, everybody is on my side; You are my Master and the spiritual wealth of my life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ਤਦੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਦਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ)। ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਾ ਤੂੰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
tuDh antar ha-o sukh vasaa tooN antar saabaas jee-o.
(When I enshrine You in my heart I am in peace; when You manifest in me, I am glorified everywhere.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਖੀ ਵਸਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਭਾਣੈ ਭੀਖ ਉਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhaanai takhat vadaa-ee-aa bhaanai bheekh udaas jee-o.
(O’ God, it is in Your will one enjoys such glories as sitting on a throne, and in Your will one begs like an ascetic.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਦਰ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣੈ ਥਲ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਵਹੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਫੁਲੈ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhaanai thal sir sar vahai kamal fulai aakaas jee-o.
(If You command, the ocean can starts flowing in a desert and a lotus can blossoms in the sky.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਿਤੇ ਸੁੱਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਚਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਭਾਣੈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਲੰਘੀਐ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਝਿ ਭਰੀਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhaanai bhavjal langhee-ai bhaanai manjh bharee-aas jee-o.
(It is as per Your will that we cross the most dreadful worldly ocean of vices, and in Your will we are drowned in it because of our sins.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀਜ ਕੇ ਵਿੱਚੇ ਹੀ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਰਤਾ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhaanai so saho rangulaa sifat rataa guntaas jee-o.
(O’ my friends, it is as per His will that the Husband-God seems endearing to the soul-bride, and remains engrossed in the praises of God, the treasure of virtues.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣੈ ਸਹੁ ਭੀਹਾਵਲਾ ਹਉ ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਮੁਈਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhaanai saho bheehaavalaa ha-o aavan jaan mu-ee-aas jee-o.
(Also in His will, that sometimes the Husband-God looks scary to me, the soul bride; I am spiritually ruined in the cycle of birth and death.
ਇਹ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੂ ਸਹੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਤੋਲਵਾ ਹਉ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਢਹਿ ਪਈਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
too saho agam atolvaa ha-o kahi kahi dheh pa-ee-aas jee-o.
(O’ God, You are the Master of inaccessible and immeasurable virtues; trying to describe them, I am exhausted and have bowed down in front of You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ! ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਪਈ ਹਾਂ ।
ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਮੈ ਦਰਸਨ ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
ki-aa maaga-o ki-aa kahi sunee mai darsan bhookh pi-aas jee-o.
(I don’t know what I may ask for, and what I should say that You would listen. I only know that I am yearning to get a glimpse of You.
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੀਹ ਮੰਗਾਂ? ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੀਹ ਆਖਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਣੇਂ? ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਹੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
gur sabdee saho paa-i-aa sach naanak kee ardaas jee-o. ||2||
(O’ God! You can only be realized by following the Guru’s word; this is the humble prayer of Nanak to make me realize You through the Guru’s word. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੇਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ॥੨॥
