Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru
ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
darsan ka-o lochai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone longs for the blessed vision of God,
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂਘਦਾ ਹੈ ,
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
poorai bhaag paraapat ho-ee. rahaa-o.
but it is attained only by perfect destiny. ||Pause||
ਪਰ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ) ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਸਿਆਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤਜਿ ਨੀਦ ਕਿਉ ਆਈ ॥
si-aam sundar taj need ki-o aa-ee.
Forsaking the beautiful God, why did I fall in the clutches of Maya?
ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਕਿਉਂਆ ਗਈ?
ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਦੂਤਾ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥
mahaa mohnee dootaa laa-ee. ||1||
These passionate enemies (vices) got me entangled with Maya the great enticer. ||1||
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੱਡੀ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਚੰਬੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਛੋਹਾ ਕਰਤ ਕਸਾਈ ॥
paraym bichhohaa karat kasaa-ee.
The butcher like Maya has separated me from my beloved God resulting in lack of love in me for Him.
ਇਸ ਕਸਾਇਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੈ,ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਅਣਹੋਂਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ l,
ਨਿਰਦੈ ਜੰਤੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਇਆ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
nirdai jant tis da-i-aa na paa-ee. ||2||
This merciless Maya shows no compassion to the poor mortal. ||2||
ਨਿਰਦਈ ਜੀਵ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਬੀਤੀਅਨ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥
anik janam beetee-an bharmaa-ee.
Wandering aimlessly, countless lifetimes have passed away;
ਭਟਕਦਿਆਂ ਭਟਕਦਿਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ,
ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੁਤਰ ਮਾਈ ॥੩॥
ghar vaas na dayvai dutar maa-ee. ||3||
but this terrible Maya does not let my mind dwell in my own heart. ||3||
ਇਹ ਦੁੱਤਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਟਿਕਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ ॥੩॥
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਈ ॥
din rain apnaa kee-aa paa-ee.
Day and night, I am enduring the reward of my own deeds.
ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਮਾਏ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਭੋਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਿਸੁ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਭਵਾਈ ॥੪॥
kis dos na deejai kirat bhavaa-ee. ||4||
Nobody else can be blamed, I have been going through countless births because of my own past deeds. ||4||
ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਰਮਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
sun saajan sant jan bhaa-ee.
Listen O’ my friends, saints, devotees and brothers,
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣੋ! ਹੇ ਭਰਾਵੋ! ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ।
ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥੩੪॥੪੦॥
charan saran naanak gat paa-ee. ||5||34||40||
O’ Nanak! say, the supreme spiritual status is attained only by coming to the refuge of God’s immaculate Name. ||5||34||40||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉੱਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੩੪॥੪੦॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru, Fourth Beat:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਲੀ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਛਾਪਰੀ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ॥
bhalee suhaavee chhaapree jaa meh gun gaa-ay.
O’ brother, blessed and beautiful is that hut, wherein God’s praises are sung.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਕੁੱਲੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਤਾਂ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਧਉਲਹਰ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kit hee kaam na Dha-ulhar jit har bisraa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The white marble mansions are useless, wherein God is forgotten. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਪੱਕੇ ਮਹੱਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਨਦੁ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਏ ॥
anad gareebee saaDhsang jit parabh chit aa-ay.
O’ brother, living in poverty in the company of the saints is blissful, wherein one lovingly remembers God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ਰੀਬੀ ਸਹਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ਏਹੁ ਬਡਪਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਪਟਾਏ ॥੧॥
jal jaa-o ayhu badpanaa maa-i-aa laptaa-ay. ||1||
This worldly glory might as well burn if it traps one in Maya. ||1||
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਖਵਾਣਾ ਸੜ ਜਾਏ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥
ਪੀਸਨੁ ਪੀਸਿ ਓਢਿ ਕਾਮਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖਾਏ ॥
peesan pees odh kaamree sukh man santokhaa-ay.
With contentment in mind, one feels blissful even if he is living in such utter poverty as to barely afford a small blanket and having to grind grains himself.
(ਗਰੀਬੀ ਵਿਚ) ਚੱਕੀ ਪੀਹ ਕੇ, ਕੰਬਲੀ ਪਹਿਨ ਕੇ ਆਨੰਦ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਐਸੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਨ ਕਿਤੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਏ ॥੨॥
aiso raaj na kitai kaaj jit nah tariptaa-ai. ||2||
But a kingdom in which the mind is never satiated is of no avail. ||2||
ਪਰ, ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਰਾਜ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਦੇ) ਰੱਜੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਹ ॥੨॥
ਨਗਨ ਫਿਰਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਏਕ ਕੈ ਓਹੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
nagan firat rang ayk kai oh sobhaa paa-ay.
One who is imbued with the love of God, receives glory even if he is wandering naked (because of not having any clothes)
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਨੰਗਾ ਭੀ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਟ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਬਿਰਥਿਆ ਜਿਹ ਰਚਿ ਲੋਭਾਏ ॥੩॥
paat patambar birthi-aa jih rach lobhaa-ay. ||3||
But it is useless to wear silk clothes enticed by which one becomes greedy. ||3||
ਪਰ ਰੇਸ਼ਮੀ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਣੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਲੋਭ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
sabh kichh tumHrai haath parabh aap karay karaa-ay.
O’ God! You control everything, it is You who does and gets everything done.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੧॥
saas saas simrat rahaa naanak daan paa-ay. ||4||1||41||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ God! bestow mercy so that I may receive the gift of remembering You with each and every breath. ||4||1||41||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!(ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਕਿ ਮੈਂ, ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੧॥y

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਪਰਾਨ ਧਨ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਪਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
har kaa sant paraan Dhan tis kaa panihaaraa.
I will surrender my life and wealth to the saint of God and dedicate myself to his service like fetching water for him.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਵਾਂ
ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਸਗਲ ਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhaa-ee meet sut sagal tay jee-a hooN tay pi-aaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
And he is more dearer to me than all my siblings, friends, sons, and even my life. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਰਾ, ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਜਿੰਦ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੇਸਾ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਜਨਾ ਸੰਤ ਚਉਰੁ ਢੁਲਾਵਉ ॥
kaysaa kaa kar beejnaa sant cha-ur dhulaava-o.
I wish to make a fan of my hair and wave it over the saints.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਖਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤਾਂਨੂੰ ਚੌਰ ਝੁਲਾਂਵਾਂ,
ਸੀਸੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ਚਰਣ ਤਲਿ ਧੂਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
sees nihaara-o charan tal Dhoor mukh laava-o. ||1||
I wish to bow my head to (accept) their words; I wish to apply the dust of their feet to my forehead (humbly serve them). ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਈ ਰੱਖਾਂ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਂਵਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਮਿਸਟ ਬਚਨ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਉ ਦੀਨ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ॥
misat bachan bayntee kara-o deen kee ni-aa-ee.
I make my submission (before the saints) in sweet words like a most humble and meek person.
ਮੈਂ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ( ਸੰਤਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ) ਮਿੱਠੇ ਬੋਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
taj abhimaan sarnee para-o har gun niDh paa-ee. ||2||
Renouncing egotism, I seek their refuge, follow their advice and receive from them the treasure of virtues of God. ||2||
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾ ਸੰਤਾਂਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ, ਉਹਨਾਪਾਸੋਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਅਵਲੋਕਨ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਕਰਉ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਾਰੁ
avlokan punah punah kara-o jan kaa darsaar.
I would wish to see the devotees over and over )
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜਵੇਖਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਚਨ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿੰਚਉ ਬੰਦਉ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ॥੩॥
amrit bachan man meh sincha-o banda-o baar baar. ||3||
I would wish to cherish their ambrosial words in my mind; time and again, I would bow to them, paying my obeisance. ||3||
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੰਜਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਚਿਤਵਉ ਮਨਿ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਉ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਮਾਗਉ ॥
chitva-o man aasaa kara-o jakaa sang maaga-o.
O’ God, I may always have the desire to ask for the company of Your devotees.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹੀ ਆਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗਉ ॥੪॥੨॥੪੨॥
naanak ka-o parabh da-i-aa kar daas charnee laaga-o. ||4||2||42||.
O’ God, show mercy on Nanak, that he may humbly remain in the service of your devotees.
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹੀ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੨॥੪੨॥

ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਤਾਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਉ ॥
jin mohay barahmand khand taahoo meh paa-o.
O’ God, I have also been enticed by Maya which has attracted people living in all continents and regions of the world.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਬਿਖਈ ਜੀਉ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raakh layho ih bikh-ee jee-o dayh apunaa naa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, please bless me with Your Name and save me, the vicious person, from the grip of Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਸੁਖੀ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jaa tay naahee ko sukhee taa kai paachhai jaa-o.
O’ God! I chase that Maye from which nobody has gained true happiness.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ (ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਜੋ ਸਗਲ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਪਟਾਉ ॥੧॥
chhod jaahi jo sagal ka-o fir fir laptaa-o. ||1||
I cling over and again to those things which ultimately forsake everyone. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੁਣਾਪਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
karahu kirpaa karunaapatay tayray har gun gaa-o.
O’ Gog, the Master of mercy! bestow mercy so that I may always be singing your praises.
ਹੇ ਤਰਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੨॥੩॥੪੩॥
naanak kee parabh bayntee saaDhsang samaa-o. ||2||3||43||
O’ God! this is the prayer of Nanak, that I may always be in the company of saints. ||2||3||43||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਹੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੨॥੩॥੪੩॥
