ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਸਾਧੀ ॥੧॥
karanhaar kee sayv na saaDhee. ||1||
You are our creator but we don’t perform your devotional worship. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
patit paavan parabh naam tumaaray.
O’ God, Your very Name is the purifier of sinners,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raakh layho mohi nirgunee-aaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
therefore save me, the unvirtuous one, from vices. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
tooN daataa parabh antarjaamee.
O’ God, You are the benevolent Master and omniscient
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਡੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕਾਚੀ ਦੇਹ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
kaachee dayh maanukh abhimaanee. ||2||
but we human beings keep feeling arrogant of our perishable body. ||2||
ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਸੁਆਦ ਬਾਦ ਈਰਖ ਮਦ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
su-aad baad eerakh mad maa-i-aa.
Pleasures of worldly things, conflicts, jealousy, and intoxication with Maya,
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਸਕੇ, ਝਗੜੇ, ਸਾੜਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ-
ਇਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
in sang laag ratan janam gavaa-i-aa. ||3||
attached to these, one wastes his gem-like precious human life. ||3||
ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
dukh bhanjan jagjeevan har raa-i-aa.
O’ God! the destroyer of sorrows, the life of the world and sovereign King;
ਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ!
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੯॥
sagal ti-aag naanak sarnaa-i-aa. ||4||13||19||
abandoning all others, Nanak has come to Your refuge. ||4||13||19||
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਆਸਰੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੯॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਪੇਖਤ ਚਾਖਤ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਅੰਧਾ ਸੁਨੀਅਤ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
paykhat chaakhat kahee-at anDhaa sunee-at sunee-ai naahee.
One who sees all worldly things but does not realize God pervading everywhere; one who listens to all worldly sounds, but does not listen to God’s praises, he is called spiritually ignorant.
ਜਿਹਡਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਚਾਖਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਰਾਗ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ- ਬੋਲਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਰੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
nikat vasat ka-o jaanai dooray paapee paap kamaahee. ||1||
Even though Naam dwells within, yet he deems it far off and he, the sinner, keeps committing sins. ||1||
ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸ ਰਹੇ (ਨਾਮ-) ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।ਅਤੇ ਗੁਨਹਿਗਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
so kichh kar jit chhuteh paraanee.
O’ mortal, do the deeds by which you are emancipated (from evil deeds).
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਕੋਈ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੇਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har naam jap amrit baanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Recite lovingly, the Name of God; the divine word of God’s praises is spirituallyrejuvenating. ||1||Pause||
ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਿਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ) ਬਾਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਘੋਰ ਮਹਲ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
ghor mahal sadaa rang raataa.
You always remain engrossed in worldly possessions like horses and mansions,
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਘੋੜੇ ਮਹਲ-ਮਾੜੀਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
sang tumHaarai kachhoo na jaataa. ||2||
but nothing out of these can accompany you in the end. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਰਖਹਿ ਪੋਚਾਰਿ ਮਾਟੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਂਡਾ ॥
rakheh pochaar maatee kaa bhaaNdaa.
O’ mortal, you are engaged in decorating this body which is like a pot of clay,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ (ਸਰੀਰ) ਨੂੰ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ) ਬਣਾ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ;
ਅਤਿ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਮ ਡਾਂਡਾ ॥੩॥
at kucheel milai jam daaNdaa. ||3||
but it is very filthy because of vices; such a person gets punished by the demon of death. ||3||
(ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ) ਬਹੁਤ ਗੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ) ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥
kaam kroDh lobh mohi baaDhaa.
O’ mortal, you are bound by lust, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਮਹਾ ਗਰਤ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਘਰਤ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੪॥
mahaa garat meh nighrat jaataa. ||4||
You are sinking deeper into the extremely large pit of sins. ||4||
ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਟੋਏ ਵਿਚ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਖੁੱਭਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ॥ ਡੂਬਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੫॥੧੪॥੨੦॥
naanak kee ardaas suneejai. doobat paahan parabh mayray leejai. ||5||14||20||
O’ God! listen to the prayer of Nanak; we, the sinners, are sinking like stones, please save us from drowning in the worldly ocean of vices. ||5||14||20||
ਹੇਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ। ਅਸਾਂ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੫॥੧੪॥੨੦॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
jeevat marai bujhai parabh so-ay.
That pesone alone realizes God, who detaches himself from the worldly temptations while living as a house holder.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
tis jan karam paraapat ho-ay. ||1||
And by the grace of God such a person unites with Him. ||1||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਇਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
sun saajan i-o dutar taree-ai.
O’ friend! listen, the way to cross this dreadful worldly ocean of vices is,
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ!ਸੁਣ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਠਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mil saaDhoo har naam uchree-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that we should meet the Guru, follow his teachings and lovingly recite God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
(ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
ayk binaa doojaa nahee jaanai.
One who does not recognize anyone else other than God,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ,
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
ghat ghat antar paarbarahm pachhaanai. ||2||
realizes the supreme God dwelling in each and every heart. |2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jo kichh karai so-ee bhal maanai.
One who accepts whatever God does as the best for all,
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਉਸ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਭਲਾ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
aad ant kee keemat jaanai. ||3||
understands the worth of the eternal God. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਹਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੧॥
kaho naanak tis jan balihaaree. jaa kai hirdai vaseh muraaree. ||4||15||21||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ God! I am dedicated to the person in whose heart You dwell. ||4||15||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂਮੈਂਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੧॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
gur parmaysar karnaihaar.
The Guru is the embodiment of the supreme God, the doer of everything.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
sagal sarisat ka-o day aaDhaar. ||1||
The Guru provides support of Naam to the entire universe. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ( ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
gur kay charan kamal man Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ my mind, focus on the divine words of the Guru,
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ!ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰ,
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dookh darad is tan tay jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
the pain and suffering of every kind shall leave this body of yours. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਸ ਦੇਹ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਵਜਲਿ ਡੂਬਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਾਢੈ ॥
bhavjal doobat satgur kaadhai.
The true Guru pulls out those drowning from the dreadful worldly ocean of vices
ਗੁਰੂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁਬਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਟੂਟਾ ਗਾਢੈ ॥੨॥
janam janam kaa tootaa gaadhai. ||2||
and unites them with God from whom they were separated for many births. ||2||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
gur kee sayvaa karahu din raat.
O’ brother, always serve the Guru by remembering God through his teachings,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ,
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਮਨਿ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥
sookh sahj man aavai saaNt. ||3||
celestial peace, poise and tranquility would well up in your mind. ||3||
ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ,ਅਡੋਲਤਾਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗੀ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
satgur kee rayn vadbhaagee paavai.
Only a very fortunate person receives the opportunity to follow the true Guru’s teachings.
ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੨॥
naanak gur ka-o sad bal jaavai. ||4||16||22||
O’ Nanak, that person is forever dedicated to the true Guru. ||4||16||22||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੨॥

ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
gur apunay oopar bal jaa-ee-ai.
We should always be dedicated to our Guru.
ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਉੱਤੋਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
aath pahar har har jas gaa-ee-ai. ||1||
(because, by the Guru’s grace alone) we can always sing God’s praises. ||1||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
simra-o so parabh apnaa su-aamee.
O’ brother, I always lovingly remember that God of mine,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal ghataa kaa antarjaamee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who is omniscient. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
charan kamal si-o laagee pareet.
(Through the Guru’s grace) when one is imbued with the love of God’s Name,
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਜਦ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ-ਰੂਪੀ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਚੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
saachee pooran nirmal reet. ||2||
then his lifestyle becomes righteous, successful and immaculate, ||2||
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਹੁ-ਰੀਤੀ ਸੱਚੀ, ਪੂਰੀ ਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
sant parsaad vasai man maahee.
By the Guru’s grace, the person in whose mind God manifests,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
janam janam kay kilvikh jaahee. ||3||
the sins of countless births of that person are eradicated. ||3||
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh deen da-i-aalaa.
O’ merciful God of the meek, bestow mercy on me,
ਹੇ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ,
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਸੰਤ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੩॥
naanak maagai sant ravaalaa. ||4||17||23||
Nanak begs from You the dust of the feet (humble service) of Your saints ||4||17||23||
ਨਾਨਕ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਦੀ ਯਾਚਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
