ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
sun galaa gur peh aa-i-aa.
I heard of the Guru, and so I went to Him.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
naam daan isnaan dirhaa-i-aa.
He instilled within me the Naam, the goodness of charity and true cleansing.
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ, ਦਾਨ ਪੁਨ ਅਤੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿਤੀ।
ਸਭੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੈਸਾਰੜਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਚਾੜਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੧॥
sabh mukat ho-aa saisaarrhaa naanak sachee bayrhee chaarh jee-o. ||11||
O’ Nanak, entire world is liberated, by embarking upon the Boat of Truth.
ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੱਚੀ ਨਉਕਾ ਉਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
sabh sarisat sayvay din raat jee-o.
The entire Universe serves and meditate upon You, day and night.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ
ਦੇ ਕੰਨੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
day kann sunhu ardaas jee-o.
Please hear my prayer, O Dear Lord.
ਤੂੰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀਆ ਤੁਸਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਛਡਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੨॥
thok vajaa-ay sabh dithee-aa tus aapay la-i-an chhadaa-ay jee-o. ||12||
I have thoroughly tested and seen all-You alone, by Your Pleasure, can save us. ||12||
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਖ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੁਸਾਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਛਡਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਹੁਣਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਣ ਦਾ ॥
hun hukam ho-aa miharvaan daa.
Now, the Merciful Lord has issued His Command.
ਹੁਣ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਪੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸੈ ਰਞਾਣਦਾ ॥
pai ko-ay na kisai ranjaandaa.
Let no one chase after and attack anyone else.
ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾ ਦੇਵੇ l
ਸਭ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਵੁਠੀਆ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਲੇਮੀ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੩॥
sabh sukhaalee vuthee-aa ih ho-aa halaymee raaj jee-o. ||13||
Let all abide in peace, under this Benevolent Rule. ||13||
ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਇਹ ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਝਿੰਮਿ ਝਿੰਮਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵਰਸਦਾ ॥
jhimm jhimm amrit varasdaa.
Softly and gently, drop by drop, the Ambrosial Nectar trickles down.
ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੋਲਾਇਆ ਬੋਲੀ ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ॥
bolaa-i-aa bolee khasam daa.
I speak as my Lord and Master causes me to speak.
ਮੈਂ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣੁ ਕੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਉਪਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਥਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੪॥
baho maan kee-aa tuDh upray tooN aapay paa-ihi thaa-ay jee-o. ||14||
I place all my faith in You; please accept me. ||14||
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ॥੧੪॥
ਤੇਰਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਦ ਤੇਰੀਆ ॥
tayri-aa bhagtaa bhukh sad tayree-aa.
Your devotees are forever hungry for You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
har lochaa pooran mayree-aa.
O Lord, please fulfill my desires.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ।
ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਿਆ ਮੈ ਗਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੫॥
dayh daras sukh-daati-aa mai gal vich laihu milaa-ay jee-o. ||15||
Grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, O Giver of Peace. Please, take me into Your Embrace. ||15||
ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿਆ ॥
tuDh jayvad avar na bhaali-aa.
I have not found any other as Great as You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿੱਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
ਤੂੰ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਪਇਆਲਿਆ ॥
tooN deep lo-a pa-i-aali-aa.
You pervade the continents, the worlds and the nether regions;
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਾਤਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂੰ ਥਾਨਿ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੬॥
tooN thaan thanantar rav rahi-aa naanak bhagtaa sach aDhaar jee-o. ||16||
You are permeating all places and interspaces. Nanak: You are the True Support of Your devotees. ||16||
ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥
ਹਉ ਗੋਸਾਈ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨੜਾ ॥
ha-o gosaa-ee daa pahilvaanrhaa.
I am a wrestler; I belong to the Lord of the World.
ਮੈਂ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ ਸਾਂ,
ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਉਚ ਦੁਮਾਲੜਾ ॥
mai gur mil uch dumaalrhaa.
I met with the Guru, and I have tied a tall, plumed turban.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਦੁਮਾਲੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਭ ਹੋਈ ਛਿੰਝ ਇਕਠੀਆ ਦਯੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੭॥
sabh ho-ee chhinjh ikthee-aa da-yu baithaa vaykhai aap jee-o. ||17||
All have gathered to watch the wrestling match, and the Merciful Lord Himself is seated to behold it. ||1
ਜਗਤ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਅਖਾੜੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੭॥
ਵਾਤ ਵਜਨਿ ਟੰਮਕ ਭੇਰੀਆ ॥
vaat vajan tamak bhayree-aa.
The bugles play and the drums beat.
ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਢੋਲ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।)
ਮਲ ਲਥੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਫੇਰੀਆ ॥
mal lathay laiday fayree-aa.
The wrestlers enter the arena and circle around.
ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ (ਪੰਜੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, (ਪਿੜ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ, ਜਗਤ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ) ਫੇਰੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਿਹਤੇ ਪੰਜਿ ਜੁਆਨ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਥਾਪੀ ਦਿਤੀ ਕੰਡਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੮॥
nihtay panj ju-aan mai gur thaapee ditee kand jee-o. ||18||
I have thrown the five challengers to the ground, and the Guru has patted me on the back. ||18||
ਮੇਰੀ ਪਿੱਠ ਉੱਤੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਥਾਪੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ (ਵਿਰੋਧੀ) ਪੰਜੇ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਜੁਆਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲਏ
ਸਭ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋਇ ਆਇਆ ॥
sabh ikthay ho-ay aa-i-aa.
All have gathered together,
ਸਾਰੇ (ਨਰ ਨਾਰ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ,
ਘਰਿ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਇਆ ॥
ghar jaasan vaat vataa-i-aa.
but we shall return home by different routes.
ਪਰ ਇੱਥੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪਰਲੋਕ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਚਲੇ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੯॥
gurmukh laahaa lai ga-ay manmukh chalay mool gavaa-ay jee-o. ||19||
The Gurmukhs reap their profits and leave, while the self-willed manmukhs lose their investment and depart. ||19||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇੱਥੋਂ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਨਫ਼ਾ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਰਾਸ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਭੀ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੯॥
ਤੂੰ ਵਰਨਾ ਚਿਹਨਾ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥
tooN varnaa chihnaa baahraa.
You are without color or mark.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਰੰਗ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ-ਚੱਕਰ ,
ਹਰਿ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਜਾਹਰਾ ॥
har diseh haajar jaahraa.
The Lord is seen to be manifest and present.
ਫਿਰ ਭੀ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੦॥
sun sun tujhai Dhi-aa-iday tayray bhagat ratay guntaas jee-o. ||20||
Hearing of Your Glories again and again, Your devotees meditate on You; they are attuned to You, O Lord, Treasure of Excellence. ||20||
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੦॥
ਮੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਦਯੈ ਸੇਵੜੀ ॥
mai jug jug da-yai sayvrhee.
Through age after age, I am the servant of the Merciful Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਟੀ ਮਿਹਡੀ ਜੇਵੜੀ ॥
gur katee mihdee jayvrhee.
The Guru has cut away my bonds.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਛਿੰਝ ਨ ਨਚਊ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਲਧਾ ਭਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੧॥੨॥੨੯॥
ha-o baahurh chhinjh na nach-oo naanak a-osar laDhaa bhaal jee-o. ||21||2||29||
I shall not have to dance in the wrestling arena of life again. Nanak has searched, and found this opportunity. ||21||2||29||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰਾਂਗਾ। ਢੂੰਢ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥੨॥੨੯॥
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਇਆ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ॥
pahilai pahrai rain kai vanjaari-aa mitraa hukam pa-i-aa garbhaas.
In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, you were cast into the womb, by the Lord’s Command.
ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਦਾਗਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ! ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਉਰਧ ਤਪੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਖਸਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
uraDh tap antar karay vanjaari-aa mitraa khasam saytee ardaas.
Upside-down, within the womb, you performed penance, O my merchant friend, and you prayed to your Lord and Master.
ਹੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਪੁੱਠਾ ਲਟਕ ਕੇ ਤਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਖਸਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਉਰਧ ਧਿਆਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
khasam saytee ardaas vakhaanai uraDh Dhi-aan liv laagaa.
You uttered prayers to your Lord and Master, while upside-down, and you meditated on Him with deep love and affection.
ਪੁੱਠਾ ਲਟਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੈਂ l
ਨਾ ਮਰਜਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ ਕਲਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਨਾਗਾ ॥
naa marjaad aa-i-aa kal bheetar baahurh jaasee naagaa.
You came into this Dark Age of Kali Yuga naked, and you shall depart again naked.
ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨੰਗਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਨੰਗਾ (ਹੀ) ਚਲਾ ਜਾਇਗਾ
ਜੈਸੀ ਕਲਮ ਵੁੜੀ ਹੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jaisee kalam vurhee hai mastak taisee jee-arhay paas.
As God’s Pen has written on your forehead, so it shall be with your soul.
ਵ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕਲਮ ਚੱਲਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਵੇਲੇ) ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਇਆ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
kaho naanak paraanee pahilai pahrai hukam pa-i-aa garbhaas. ||1||
Says Nanak, in the first watch of the night, by the Hukam of the Lord’s Command, you enter into the womb. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ) ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਹਰ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
