ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
kar kirpaa mohi saaDhsang deejai. ||4||
and kindly bless me with the company of the saintly people. ||4||
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੪॥
ਤਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਉ ਹੋਈਐ ਰੇਨਾ ॥
ta-o kichh paa-ee-ai ja-o ho-ee-ai raynaa.
We can receive something worthwhile in the company of saints, only when we become humble like the dust of the feet of the saintly persons.
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਭੀ) ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣ ਜਾਈਏ ।
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੨॥੮॥
jisahi bujha-ay tis naam lainaa. ||1|| rahaa-o. ||2||8||
That person alone remembers God’s Name whom He blesses with this understanding. ||1||Pause||2||8||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਓਹ ਹੀ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ ॥੨॥੮॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ghar meh thaakur nadar na aavai.
(A faithless cynic) does not realize God dwelling in his heart,
(ਸਾਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ,
ਗਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਲਟਕਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
gal meh paahan lai latkaavai. ||1||
instead, he goes around with a stone idol around his neck. ||1||
ਪੱਥਰ (ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਲਟਕਾਈ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਫਿਰਤਾ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa saakat firtaa.
The faithless cynic wanders around, deluded by doubt.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨੀਰੁ ਬਿਰੋਲੈ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮਰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
neer birolai khap khap martaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
(By performing idol worship), he is doing nothing but churning water and by doing so he endures spiritual deterioration. ||1||Pause||
(ਮੂਰਤੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਪਾਣੀ (ਹੀ) ਰਿੜਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਹਣ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਹਤਾ ॥
jis paahan ka-o thaakur kahtaa.
The stone, which he calls god,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਕਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸ ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਖਦਾ (ਸਮਝਦਾ) ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਓਹੁ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਉਸ ਕਉ ਡੁਬਤਾ ॥੨॥
oh paahan lai us ka-o dubtaa. ||2||
that stone pulls him down spiritually and drowns him (in the worldly ocean of vices). ||2||
ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਉਸ (ਪੁਜਾਰੀ) ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਨਹਗਾਰ ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ॥
gunahgaar loon haraamee.
O’ ungrateful sinner!
ਹੇ ਪਾਪੀ! ਹੇ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣ!
ਪਾਹਣ ਨਾਵ ਨ ਪਾਰਗਿਰਾਮੀ ॥੩॥
paahan naav na paargiramee. ||3||
A boat of stone (idol worship) cannot ferry you across this worldly ocean of vices. ||3||
ਪੱਥਰ ਦੀ ਬੇੜੀ (ਨਦੀ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦੀ (ਪੱਥਰ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕਦੀ) ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gur mil naanak thaakur jaataa.
O’ Nanak, one who has met the Guru and has realized God,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ,
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੯॥
jal thal mahee-al pooran biDhaataa. ||4||3||9||
he beholds that perfect Creator-God pervading the water, land and the sky-everywhere. ||4||3||9||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੯॥

ਲਾਲਨੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਕਵਨ ਗਤੀ ਰੀ ॥
laalan raavi-aa kavan gatee ree.
O’ my friend! how did you enjoy the company of the beloved God?
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲਾਲ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ?
ਸਖੀ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਮੁਝਹਿ ਮਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੧॥
sakhee bataavhu mujheh matee ree. ||1||
O’ sister, please give me that understanding. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਅਕਲ ਦੱਸ ॥੧॥
ਸੂਹਬ ਸੂਹਬ ਸੂਹਵੀ ॥
soohab soohab soohvee.
O’ my friend! (because of celestial peace) your face is glowing,
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਲੀ ਭਖ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
apnay pareetam kai rang ratee. ||1|| rahaa-og
and you are imbued with the love of your beloved-God. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪਾਵ ਮਲੋਵਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਨੈਨ ਭਤੀਰੀ ॥
paav malova-o sang nain bhateeree.
I would serve you most humbly as if I were massaging your feet with my eye lashes.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦੱਸ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੁਤਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਲਾਂਗੀ,
ਜਹਾ ਪਠਾਵਹੁ ਜਾਂਉ ਤਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੨॥
jahaa pathaavhu jaaN-o tatee ree. ||2||
and wherever You send me, there I will go happily. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਿਥੇ ਭੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ) ਭੇਜੇਂਗੀ ਮੈਂ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ (ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ) ਜਾਵਾਂਗੀ ॥੨॥
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਦੇਉ ਜਤੀ ਰੀ ॥
jap tap sanjam day-o jatee ree.
I would let you have the credit of all my worships, penances, and austerities,
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਵਜ਼ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਦੇ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ,
ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੩॥
ik nimakh milaavhu mohi paraanpatee ree. ||3||
if even for a moment, you make it possible for me to meet God, the Master of my life.
ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਹਤੀ ਰੀ ॥ ਸਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਹਾਗਵਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੦॥
maan taan ahaN-buDh hatee ree. saa naanak sohaagvatee ree. ||4||4||10||
O’ Nanak! the soul-bride who eradicates her self-conceit, power and arrogant intellect, becomes truly fortunate. ||4||4||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਇੱਜ਼ਤ, ਤਾਕਤ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ-ਮੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੦॥

ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥

O’ God! You are my life. You are the very support of my breath.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
tujh hee paykh paykh man saaDhaaraa. ||1||
Beholding You, my mind is comforted. ||1||
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
tooN saajan tooN pareetam mayraa.
O’ God! You are my friend, You are my beloved,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਚਿਤਹਿ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਹਿ ਕਾਹੂ ਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chiteh na bisrahi kaahoo bayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and at no time, You are forsaken from my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਸਰਦਾ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬੈ ਖਰੀਦੁ ਹਉ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
bai khareed ha-o daasro tayraa.
O’ God, I am Your purchased servant;
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਮੁੱਲ ਖ਼ਰੀਦਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ,
ਤੂੰ ਭਾਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
tooN bhaaro thaakur gunee gahayraa. ||2||
You are my great Master, You are like a deep ocean full of virtues. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਡੂੰਘੇ ਸਾਗਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਦਾਸ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
kot daas jaa kai darbaaray.
(O’ brother, God is like a sovereign king) in whose court are millions of servants,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਸੇਵਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਡਿੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਨਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
nimakh nimakh vasai tinH naalay. ||3||
and He abides with them at every moment. ||3||
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
ha-o kichh naahee sabh kichh tayraa.
O’ God! I am nothing; everything (within me or mine) is actually a gift from You.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਹੈ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੧॥
ot pot naanak sang basayraa. ||4||5||11||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ God! You are with me through and through. ||4||5||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੧॥

ਸੂਖ ਮਹਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਊਚ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥
sookh mahal jaa kay ooch du-aaray.
O’ brother, God’s s spiritual state is so high and blissful that not everyone can reach there,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਹਲ ਆਨੰਦ-ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਹਨ ( ਉਥੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)
ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਵਾਸਹਿ ਭਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥
taa meh vaaseh bhagat pi-aaray. ||1||
there (in such high spiritual state) reside, only His beloved devotees. ||1||
ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਗਤ (ਹੀ) ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸਹਜ ਕਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਅਤਿ ਮੀਠੀ ॥
sahj kathaa parabh kee at meethee.
Extremely peaceful and sweet are the praises of God that evolve spiritual bliss;
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬੜੀ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਦਲੀ ਹੈ,
ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਹੁ ਡੀਠੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
virlai kaahoo naytarahu deethee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but it is a rare person who has enjoyed such an experience. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ (ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਹ ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਅਖਾਰੇ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
tah geet naad akhaaray sangaa.
There in the arena of the saintly congregation, songs of God are sung and divine music is played.
ਉਥੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਲਾਹੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗਾਇਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਊਹਾ ਸੰਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
oohaa sant karahi har rangaa. ||2||
In such state, saints enjoy the loving company of God. ||2||
ਉਥੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਤਹ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਹਰਖਾ ॥
tah maran na jeevan sog na harkhaa.
In that state, there is no such thing as birth and death, or happiness and sorrow.
ਉਥੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ, ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸਾਚ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਰਖਾ ॥੩॥
saach naam kee amrit varkhaa. ||3||
In that state, rains the ambrosial nectar of Naam. ||3||
ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਹਜ ਕਥਾ ਇਹ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
guhaj kathaa ih gur tay jaanee.
I have learnt this mystery of singing God’s praises from the Guru.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਮੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੨॥
Nanak always recites the divine words of God’s praises. ||4||6||12||
ਨਾਨਕ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੨॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਪਾਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥
jaa kai daras paap kot utaaray.
Those saints in whose precious company, millions of sins are washed off,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਾਲ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਭੇਟਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
bhaytat sang ih bhavjal taaray. ||1||
and by keeping company with them, this terrifying world-ocean of vices is crossed over. ||1||
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹਿਆਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਓਇ ਸਾਜਨ ਓਇ ਮੀਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
o-ay saajan o-ay meet pi-aaray.
O’ brother, those saintly persons are my well wishers and my best friends,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਹੀ) ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਹੀ) ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ,
ਜੋ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo ham ka-o har naam chitaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who inspire me to meditate on Naam. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
jaa kaa sabad sunat sukh saaray.
Those (saints) by listening to whose words, one receives celestial peace,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
jaa kee tahal jamdoot bidaaray. ||2||
and by serving them, even the demons of death are driven away (fear of death vanishes). ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਲ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਜਮਦੂਤ (ਭੀ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਧੀਰਕ ਇਸੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਧਾਰੇ ॥
jaa kee Dheerak is maneh saDhaaray.
Consolation from those saintly friends provides support and peace to my mind,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਉਹੀ ਹਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ (ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਧੀਰਜ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
jaa kai simran mukh ujlaaray. ||3||
and meditation on Naam in their company brings honor (here and hereafter). ||3||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ) ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਮੂੰਹ ਉਜਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
parabh kay sayvak parabh aap savaaray.
God Himself has embellished His devotees..
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੩॥
saran naanak tinH sad balihaaray. ||4||7||13||
O’ Nanak! one should seek their refuge and remain dedicated to them forever. ||4||7||13||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੩॥
