ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jis no laa-ay la-ay so laagai.
(O’ brother), only the one whom God attunes to His Name, is attuned to Him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
gi-aan ratan antar tis jaagai.
The jewel-like spiritual wisdom enlightens within him,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗੀ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਉੱਘੜ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
durmat jaa-ay param pad paa-ay.
his evil-mindedness vanishes and he achieves the supreme spiritual status.
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਖੋਟੀਮਤਿ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥
gur parsaadee naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||3||
It is by the Guru’s grace that he lovingly remembers God’s Name. ||3|
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰਉ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
du-ay kar jorh kara-o ardaas.
O’ God! pressing my palms together, I pray to You;
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਆਣਹਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
tuDh bhaavai taa aaneh raas.
when it pleases You, only then You accept and fulfil a prayer.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ) ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇ ॥
kar kirpaa apnee bhagtee laa-ay.
Bestowing mercy, whom God attunes to His devotional worship,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
jan naanak parabh sadaa Dhi-aa-ay. ||4||2||
O’ devotee Nanak! he always remembers God with reverence. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
Dhan sohaagan jo parabhoo pachhaanai.
O’ dear friend, praiseworthy is that soul-bride, who realizes God,
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਜੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥
maanai hukam tajai abhimaanai.
abandons her ego and obeys God’s command.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
pari-a si-o raatee ralee-aa maanai. ||1||
Imbued with the love of her Husband-God, she enjoys the spiritual pleasure of His company.||1||
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਭੂ-ਪਤੀ (ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਨਿ ਸਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਣ ਨੀਸਾਨੀ ॥
sun sakhee-ay parabh milan neesaanee.
O’ dear friend, listen from me, the sign or way of union with God,
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਸੁਣ ਲੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਲੋਕਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man tan arap taj laaj lokaanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
(the way is to) shed any thoughts of worldly embarrassment and surrender yourself completely to the will of God. ||1||Pause||
(ਉਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਉਹ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
sakhee sahaylee ka-o samjhaavai.
One friend (who is united with God) counsels another friend and tells her,
(ਇਕ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਸਹੇਲੀ (ਦੂਜੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਸਹੇਲੀ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਬਾਰੇ) ਸਮਝਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ)
ਸੋਈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
so-ee kamaavai jo parabh bhaavai. saa sohagan ank samaavai. ||2||
that the fortunate soul-bride does only that deed which is pleasing to her Husband-God and she merges in Him ||2||
ਉਹ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗਰਬਿ ਗਹੇਲੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
garab gahaylee mahal na paavai.
The soul-bride caught in ego, can not achieve union with the Husband-God.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ਜਬ ਰੈਣਿ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥
fir pachhutaavai jab rain bihaavai.
and regrets when her night of life (life span) comes to an end.
ਜਦੋਂ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮਹੀਣਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
karamheen manmukh dukh paavai. ||3||
The unfortunate self-willed soul-bride always endures misery. ||3||
ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਹ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੀ ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
bin-o karee jay jaanaa door.
I may pray to God only if I think that He is far away from me.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਾਂ, ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝਾਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
parabh abhinaasee rahi-aa bharpoor.
The imperishable God is pervading everywhere.
ਉਹ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੩॥
jan naanak gaavai daykh hadoor. ||4||3||
Devotee Nanak sings His praises seeing Him present very close. ||4||3||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਵਸਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਹਉ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
garihu vas gur keenaa ha-o ghar kee naar.
Through the Guru, God has helpedme take charge of my household (body and mind) and I am now the mistress of my household.
(ਹੇ ਸਖੀ!) ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਮੇਰਾ) ਸਰੀਰ-ਘਰ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ) ਘਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਕਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ।
ਦਸ ਦਾਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਭਤਾਰਿ ॥
das daasee kar deenee bhataar.
My Husband-God has made my ten sensory organs as my servants.
ਮੇਰੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਦਸਾਂ ਹੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਸੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਮੈ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਜੋੜੀ ॥
sagal samagree mai ghar kee jorhee.
I have gathered all the necessary things, the high moral and divine virtues, for my household (body and mind0.
(ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਘਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਸਜਾ ਕੇ) ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਪਿਰ ਕਉ ਲੋੜੀ ॥੧॥
aas pi-aasee pir ka-o lorhee. ||1||
I am now longing for the union with my Husband-God.||1||
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਤੇ ਤਾਂਘ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਕਵਨ ਕਹਾ ਗੁਨ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
kavan kahaa gun kant pi-aaray.
O’ my friend, which of the virtues of my beloved Husband-God, may I mention?
(ਹੇ ਸਖੀ!) ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮੈਂ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੱਸਾਂ?
ਸੁਘੜ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sugharh saroop da-i-aal muraaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He is very wise, beauteous, and merciful. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਚੱਜੇ, ਦਇਆਵਾਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ- ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਤੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਭਉ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sat seegaar bha-o anjan paa-i-aa.
I have adorned myself with righteous living and the revered fear of God is like mascara to my eyes.
ਸੁੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੰਬੋਲੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
amrit naam tambol mukh khaa-i-aa.
I have meditated on Naam as if I have chewed the betel-leaf of ambrosial Naam.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਪਾਨ ਮੈਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਖਾਧਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੰਗਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਗਹਨੇ ਬਨੇ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ॥
kangan bastar gahnay banay suhaavay.
Now the bracelets, robes and other ornaments all look more beautiful (because all efforts towards spirituality have succeeded).
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਗਣ, ਕੱਪੜੇ, ਗਹਿਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਉੱਦਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)
ਧਨ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
Dhan sabh sukh paavai jaaN pir ghar aavai. ||2||
And when the Husband-God becomes manifest in the heart, then this soul-bride enjoys all the celestial pleasures. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਣ ਕਰਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਰੀਝਾਇਆ ॥
gun kaaman kar kant reejhaa-i-aa..
By the charm of virtues, the soul-bride has enticed her Husband-God.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਟੂਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
vas kar leenaa gur bharam chukaa-i-aa.
The Guru has removed her doubts and she has gained loving control over her Husband-God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
sabh tay oochaa mandar mayraa.
Now the spiritual state of my Heart is much above the vices
(ਹੇ ਸਖੀ) ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਘਰ ਸਭ (ਵਾਸਨਾਵਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
sabh kaaman ti-aagee pari-o pareetam mayraa. ||3||
Having renounced all other self-willed soul-brides, the beloved Husband-God has become mine. ||3||
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਸੂਰੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥
pargati-aa soor jot ujee-aaraa.
I feel as if the sun of wisdom has risen, and there is the brightness of divine light in my mind.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ਸਰਧ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
sayj vichhaa-ee saraDh apaaraa.
I have embellished my heart with complete devotion for Him.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਮੈਂ ਵਿਛਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ),
ਨਵ ਰੰਗ ਲਾਲੁ ਸੇਜ ਰਾਵਣ ਆਇਆ ॥
nav rang laal sayj raavan aa-i-aa.
My beloved God is ever new and fresh and is enshrined in my heart.
ਉਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਨਵੇਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰ ਧਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥
jan naanak pir Dhan mil sukh paa-i-aa. ||4||4||
O’ Devotee Nanak, the soul-bride now enjoys the celestial peace on uniting with her Husband-God. ||4||4||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥

Raag Soohee, Fifth Guru:
ਉਮਕਿਓ ਹੀਉ ਮਿਲਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਾਈ ॥
umki-o hee-o milan parabh taa-ee.
An intense yearning has welled up in my heart to meet God.
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਖੋਜਤ ਚਰਿਓ ਦੇਖਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਜਾਈ ॥
khojat chari-o daykh-a-u pari-a jaa-ee.
Therefore, I embarked on a search to see the dwelling of my beloved God.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਲੱਭਣ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਿਆ (ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ (ਕਿਤੇ) ਵੇਖਾਂ।
ਸੁਨਤ ਸਦੇਸਰੋ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ॥
sunat sadaysro pari-a garihi sayj vichhaa-ee.
Hearing about the news of my beloved God, I got my heart ready.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਸਨੇਹਾ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ਤਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
bharam bharam aa-i-o ta-o nadar na paa-ee. ||1||
But after roaming around searching for my beloved in all kinds of places, I couldn’t see Him.||1||
(ਪਰ) ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਆਇਆ, ਤਦੋਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ) ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਹੀਅਰੋ ਧੀਰੈ ਨਿਮਾਨੋ ॥

How can then, this helpless heart of mine be comforted?
ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਦਿਲ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਧੀਰਜ ਫੜੇ?
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਜਨ ਹਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mil saajan ha-o tujh kurbaano. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my Friend-God, come meet me; I am dedicated to You. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏਕਾ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛੀ ਧਨ ਕੰਤਾ ॥
aykaa sayj vichhee Dhan kantaa.
The soul-bride and the Husband-God dwell at the same one place, the heart of the soul-bride .
ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਸੇਜ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਵਿਛੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ;
ਧਨ ਸੂਤੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਸਦ ਜਾਗੰਤਾ ॥
Dhan sootee pir sad jaagantaa.
But the soul-bride always remains engrossed in the love for Maya, while God is always awake (above the effects of Maya)
ਪਰ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੱਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਪੀਓ ਮਦਰੋ ਧਨ ਮਤਵੰਤਾ ॥
pee-o madro Dhan matvantaa.
The soul-bride remains intoxicated as if she has consumed liquor.
ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਉਂ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਧਨ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੇ ਪਿਰੁ ਬੋਲੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
Dhan jaagai jay pir bolantaa. ||2||
The soul-bride can wake up if the Husband-God (Himself) wakes her up. ||2||
(ਹਾਂ) ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਜਾਗ ਭੀ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ (ਆਪ) ਜਗਾਏ ॥੨॥
ਭਈ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਿਨ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
bha-ee niraasee bahut din laagay.
Many days of my life have passed (without meeting Him) and now, I am disappointed.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! (ਉਮਰ ਦੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ ਹਨ, (ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ।
ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਮੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਝਾਗੇ ॥
days disantar mai saglay jhaagay.
I have wandered throughmany lands (but have not been able to find Him anywhere).
ਮੈਂ (ਬਾਹਰ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ ਭਾਲ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਕਿਤੇ ਲੱਭਾ ਨਹੀਂ।)
