Raag Soohee, Fourth Guru, Seventh Beat:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੇਰੇ ਕਵਨ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਗਾਵਾ ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
tayray kavan kavan gun kahi kahi gaavaa too saahib gunee niDhaanaa.
O’ Master God, which of Your virtues may I recount and sing? You are the treasure of virtues.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੱਸ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਾਂ?ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਊਚ ਭਗਵਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
tumree mahimaa baran na saaka-o tooN thaakur ooch bhagvaanaa. ||1||
O’ God! I cannot describe Your greatness, You are the master of all and highest of the high. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂਉਚਾ ਹੈਂ॥੧॥
ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਰ ਸੋਈ ॥
mai har har naam Dhar so-ee.
O’ God, for me, that Name of Yours is my only support.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh mayray saahib mai tujh bin avar na ko-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my Master! save me as you please, as I have none other than you to support me. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ। ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੈ ਤਾਣੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਤੂਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਗੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
mai taan deebaan toohai mayray su-aamee mai tuDh aagai ardaas.
O’ Master-God! You alone are my strength and my support; I can pray only before You.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
mai hor thaa-o naahee jis peh kara-o baynantee mayraa dukh sukh tujh hee paas. ||2||
There is no other place where I can offer my prayers; I can tell my sufferings and pleasures only to You. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਮੈਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸੁਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਵਿਚੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਸਟ ਅਗਨਿ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥
vichay Dhartee vichay paanee vich kaasat agan Dhareejai.
O’ my mind! (look at the power of God), He has made earth and water abide in one place and fire is locked in wood,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਵੇਖ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਲ ਇਕੇ ਥਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਗ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
ਬਕਰੀ ਸਿੰਘੁ ਇਕਤੈ ਥਾਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਦੂਰਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩॥
bakree singh iktai thaa-ay raakhay man har jap bharam bha-o door keejai. ||3||
it is as if the goat and the lion are kept in one place ; O’ mind, meditate on such powerful God and get rid of all your doubts and fears. ||3||
(ਮਾਨੋ) ਸ਼ੇਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਕਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਥਾਂ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਅਜੇਹੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਡਰ ਭਰਮ ਦੂਰਕਰ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਮਾਣੁ ਦੇਵਾਏ ॥
har kee vadi-aa-ee daykhhu santahu har nimaani-aa maan dayvaa-ay.
O’ saints, behold the greatness of God, He begets honor to the helpless people.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖੋ,ਉਹ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਨੂ ਆਦਰ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਜਿਉ ਧਰਤੀ ਚਰਣ ਤਲੇ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਆਣਿ ਸਭੁ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨॥
ji-o Dhartee charan talay tay oopar aavai ti-o naanak saaDh janaa jagat aan sabh pairee paa-ay. ||4||1||12||
O’ Nanak, just as the earth remains under our feet but is poured over us after death, similarly God makes the entire world bow to the saints. ||4||1||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਰਤੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਹੇਠੋਂ (ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਉੱਪਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨॥

Raag Soohee, Fourth Guru:
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
tooN kartaa sabh kichh aapay jaaneh ki-aa tuDh peh aakh sunaa-ee-ai.
O’ God! You are the Creator, know everything; what can we possibly tell You?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਗੱਲ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਜਾਏ।
ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
buraa bhalaa tuDh sabh kichh soojhai jayhaa ko karay tayhaa ko paa-ee-ai. ||1||
You know all the bad and the good in everybody, therefore everyone is rewarded according to his deeds. ||1||
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਭਲਾਈ ਦਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਮ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਫਲ ਉਹ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੂੰ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
mayray saahib tooN antar kee biDh jaaneh.
O’ my Master-God! You know the state of everybody’s mind.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਬੁਲਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
buraa bhalaa tuDh sabh kichh soojhai tuDh bhaavai tivai bulaaveh. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You know all the bad and all the good in everybody; so you make them speak as it pleases You. ||1||Pause||
ਬੁਰਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਲਿਆਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
sabh moh maa-i-aa sareer har kee-aa vich dayhee maanukh bhagat karaa-ee.
O’ God! You have created the human body and have infused the love of Mayainto it; You Yourself enable them to perform Your devotional worship.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਮੋਹ,ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤੀ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਿਟਾਈ ॥੨॥
iknaa satgur mayl sukh dayveh ik manmukh DhanDh pitaa-ee. ||2||
To some You bless with spiritual peace by uniting them with true Guru, while You keep the other self-willed people entangled in worldly problems. ||2||
ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ।ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
sabh ko tayraa tooN sabhnaa kaa mayray kartay tuDh sabhnaa sir likhi-aa laykh.
O’ my Creator, everybody belongs to You, and You are the Master of all; it is You who have scribed everybody’s destiny.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ (ਖਸਮ) ਹੈਂ। ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਕਿਰਤ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੇਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਭੇਖੁ ॥੩॥
jayhee tooN nadar karahi tayhaa ko hovai bin nadree naahee ko bhaykh. ||3||
As You bestow Your glance of grace on any one, so does one become; without Your grace, no one can assume any kind of character. ||3||
ਉਸ ਲੇਖ (ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਹ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਚਾਹੇ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਚਾਹੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ (ਚੰਗਾ ਜਾਂ ਮੰਦਾ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਬਣਿਆ) ॥੩॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
tayree vadi-aa-ee tooNhai jaaneh sabh tuDhno nit Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ God! You alone know Your greatness; everyone always remembers You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੩॥
jis no tuDh bhaavai tis no tooN mayleh jan naanak so thaa-ay paa-ay. ||4||2||13||
O’ devotee Nanak, say, O’ God! You unite with Yourself only the one with whom You are pleased; he is the only one truly accepted. ||4||2||13||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ!ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ, ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।॥੪॥੨॥੧੩॥

Raag Soohee, Fourth Guru:
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
jin kai antar vasi-aa mayraa har har tin kay sabh rog gavaa-ay.
O’ brother, all those in whose hearts manifests my God, He (God) eradicates all their afflictions.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
tay mukat bha-ay jin har naam Dhi-aa-i-aa tin pavit param pad paa-ay. ||1||
Those who lovingly remember God’s Name, become immaculate (free from vices) and achieve supreme spiritual status. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ (ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਆਰੋਗ ਭਏ ॥
mayray raam har jan aarog bha-ay.
O’ my all pervading God, all Your devotees have become free from illnesses of ego etc.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਦੇ, ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ, ਦਾਸ (ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਨਰੋਏ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ ਗਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur bachnee jinaa japi-aa mayraa har har tin kay ha-umai rog ga-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Yes, all those who have meditated on my God through the Guru’s word, their maladies associated with ego have vanished. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਰੋਗੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
barahmaa bisan mahaaday-o tarai gun rogee vich ha-umai kaar kamaa-ee.
Being afflicted with the three modes of Maya (vice, power and virtue), angels like Brahma, Vishnu and Mahadev remained afflicted because they also acted in ego.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ, ਸ਼ਿਵ (ਭੀ) ਰੋਗੀ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
jin kee-ay tiseh na cheeteh bapurhay har gurmukh sojhee paa-ee. ||2||
They (angels) did not remember God who created them; understanding about remembering God comes only by following the Guru’s teachings. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਚੇਤਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਰਹੇ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
ha-umai rog sabh jagat bi-aapi-aa tin ka-o janam maran dukh bhaaree.
The entire world is afflicted by the disease of egotism and therefore suffers the terrible pain of birth and death.
ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
