ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਸੁਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
charan kamal sang pareet man laagee sur jan milay pi-aaray.
The love for the immaculate Name of God wells up in the mind of a person who meets with the saintly people.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੧੫॥
naanak anad karay har jap jap saglay rog nivaaray. ||2||10||15||
O’ Nanak, he removes all his afflictions and enjoys bliss by always lovingly remembering God. ||2||10||15||.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੧੫॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਾਂ ਹਾਂ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਰੇ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਥੋਰੀ ॥
haaN haaN lapti-o ray moorhHay kachhoo na thoree.
O’ fool, you are clinging to worldly riches and power and your love for it is not insignificant either.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ! ਮੈਂ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਭੀ ਕੁਝ ਥੋੜੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਤੇਰੋ ਨਹੀ ਸੁ ਜਾਨੀ ਮੋਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tayro nahee so jaanee moree. rahaa-o.
The Maya which you consider to be yours, is not yours. ||Pause||.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿਣੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਆਪਨ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੋ ਖਿਨੂਆ ॥
aapan raam na cheeno khinoo-aa.
God alone is our true companion, but You do not remember Him, even for an instant.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਲ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ।
ਜੋ ਪਰਾਈ ਸੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਮਨੂਆ ॥੧॥
jo paraa-ee so apnee manoo-aa. ||1||
This maya which will soon belong to others, you believe to be your own. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਗਾਨੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਸੋ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਬਸਾਇਓ ॥
naam sangee so man na basaa-i-o.
Naam is the real companion, but You have not enshrined it in your mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਅਸਲ) ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਇਆ।
ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਵਾਹੂ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੨॥
chhod jaahi vaahoo chit laa-i-o. ||2||
You have attached your consciousness to worldly riches and power which would eventually abandon you. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣਗੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੋ ਸੰਚਿਓ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੂਖ ਤਿਸਾਇਓ ॥
so sanchi-o jit bhookh tisaa-i-o.
You have amassed that which would keep you yearning for more of it.
ਤੂੰ ਉਹ (ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੋਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
amrit naam tosaa nahee paa-i-o. ||3||
You have not acquired ambrosial Naam, the sustenance for life’s journey. ||3||
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਰਚ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੂੰ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੩॥
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਮੋਹ ਕੂਪਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥
kaam kroDh moh koop pari-aa.
You have fallen into the pit of lust, anger and emotional attachment.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਤੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋ ਤਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੬॥
gur parsaad naanak ko tari-aa. ||4||1||16||
O’ Nanak, by the Guru’s grace, only a rare person comes out of this pit and swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||4||1||16||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੬॥

ਹਮਾਰੈ ਏਕੈ ਹਰੀ ਹਰੀ ॥
hamaarai aikai haree haree.
In my heart, I depend on the support of one God alone.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਨ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਞਾਣਿ ਨ ਕਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan avar sinjaan na karee. rahaa-o.
I do not recognize any other. ||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
vadai bhaag gur apunaa paa-i-o.
By great good fortune, I have met my Guru.
ਬੜੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭਾ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
gur mo ka-o har naam darirhaa-i-o. ||1||
The Guru helped me to enshrine Naam in my heart. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਨੇਮਾ ॥
har har jaap taap barat naymaa.
My meditation, austerity, fasting and daily religious practice is remembering God with adoration.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਹੈ, ਵਰਤ ਹੈ, ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਕੁਸਲ ਸਭਿ ਖੇਮਾ ॥੨॥
har har Dhi-aa-ay kusal sabh khaymaa. ||2||
I enjoy happiness and bliss by always remembering God. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਆਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਜਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨੀਆ ॥
aachaar bi-uhaar jaat har gunee-aa.
Singing God’s praises is my good conduct, occupation and social status.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣੇ (ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ (ਉੱਚੀ) ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਨੀਆ ॥੩॥
mahaa anand keertan har sunee-aa. ||3||
I enjoy supreme bliss by listening to the hymns of God’s praises. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਵੱਡਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak jin thaakur paa-i-aa.
Nanak says, the one who has realized God,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ,
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੭॥
sabh kichh tis kay garih meh aa-i-aa. ||4||2||17||
feels as if everything has come to his heart. ||4||2||17||

ਰੂੜੋ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੋ ਲੋੜੈ ॥
roorho man har rango lorhai.
This beautiful mind longs to be imbued with the love of God,
ਇਹ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗਾਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਨੀਹੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gaalee har neehu na ho-ay. rahaa-o.
but God’s love is not received by mere words. ||Pause||
ਪਰ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹਉ ਢੂਢੇਦੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬੀਥੀ ਬੀਥੀ ਪੇਖਾ ॥
ha-o dhoodhaydee darsan kaaran beethee beethee paykhaa.
To experience His blessed vision, I have been trying every ritual as if I have been searching for Him from street to street.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ (ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ) ਗਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਢੂੰਢਦੀ ਰਹੀ l
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
gur mil bharam gavaa-i-aa hay. ||1||
Upon meeting the Guru and by following his teachings , I have dispelled my illusion (and have realized that God is within us). ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਇਹ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਮੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੰਨਹੁ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਾਥੈ ॥
ih buDh paa-ee mai saaDhoo kannahu laykh likhi-o Dhur maathai.
I have obtained this wisdom from the Guru, according to the pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon my forehead.
(ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਇਹ ਅਕਲ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਇ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੮॥
ih biDh naanak har nain alo-ay. ||2||1||18||
O’ Nanak, this way, I saw God with my spiritually enlightened eyes. ||2||1||18||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੮॥

ਗਰਬਿ ਗਹਿਲੜੋ ਮੂੜੜੋ ਹੀਓ ਰੇ ॥
garab gahilarho moorh-rho hee-o ray.
O’ brother, the foolish heart is in the grip of ego.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੂਰਖ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਪਕੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।
ਹੀਓ ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੀ ਮਾਇਓ ॥ ਡੀਹਰ ਨਿਆਈ ਮੋਹਿ ਫਾਕਿਓ ਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hee-o mahraaj ree maa-i-o. deehar ni-aa-ee mohi faaki-o ray. rahaa-o.
Like a fish snared in a hook, this heart is trapped in the love for Maya (worldly riches and power) created by God. ||Pause||
ਇਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੰਡੀ ਵਿਚ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਘਣੋ ਘਣੋ ਘਣੋ ਸਦ ਲੋੜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਲਹਣੇ ਕੈਠੈ ਪਾਇਓ ਰੇ ॥
ghano ghano ghano sad lorhai bin lahnay kaithai paa-i-o ray.
O’ brother, one always keeps on hankering for more and more wealth, but how can he receive more wealth without being predestined?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਬੰਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇ?
ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੋ ਗਾਥੁ ਵਾਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਲੁਭੜਿਓ ਨਿਹਭਾਗੜੋ ਭਾਹਿ ਸੰਜੋਇਓ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
mahraaj ro gaath vaahoo si-o lubh-rhi-o nihbhaagrho bhaahi sanjo-i-o ray. ||1||
O’ brother, one remains engrossed in the love for worldly wealth given by God; the unfortunate one keeps his mind attached to the fire of desires. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਧਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਮੋਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l ਨਿਭਾਗਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸੀਖ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਸਗਲੋ ਥਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਰੇ ॥
sun man seekh saaDhoo jan saglo thaaray saglay paraachhat miti-o ray.
O’ my mind, listen to the Guru’s teachings, all your sins would be washed off.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਜਾ ਕੋ ਲਹਣੋ ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੀ ਗਾਠੜੀਓ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ਨ ਪਉੜਿਓ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੯॥
jaa ko lahno mahraaj ree gaath-rhee-o jan naanak garbhaas na pa-orhi-o ray. ||2||2||19||
O’ Nanak, one who is destined to receive the wealth of Naam from God’s treasury, doesn’t go through the cycle of birth and death. ||2||2||19||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੯॥
