ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
har ayk simar ayk simar ayk simar pi-aaray.
O’ my dear friend, always remember the One God with loving devotion.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਮਹਾ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kal kalays lobh moh mahaa bha-ojal taaray. rahaa-o.
He would save you and ferry you across the dreadful worldly ocean full of strifes, sufferings, greed and emotional attachments. ||Pause||
ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਲੜਾਈਆਂ, ਦੁੱਖਾਂ, ਲਾਲਚ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਗਨ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲਵੇਗਾ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ॥
saas saas nimakh nimakh dinas rain chitaaray.
Always remember and adore God with every breath and at every moment.
ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਛਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਸੰਗ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
saaDhsang jap nisang man niDhaan Dhaaray. ||1||
In the holy congregation, meditate on God’s Name without any hesitation and enshrine this treasure of Naam in your mind. ||1||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠ ਕੇ) ਝਾਕਾ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਗੁਨ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
charan kamal namaskaar gun gobid beechaaray.
Obediently follow the Guru’s teachings and reflect on God’s virtues
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਈ ਰੱਖ। ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੇਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੰਗਲ ਸੂਖ ਸਧਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੧॥
saaDh janaa kee rayn naanak mangal sookh saDhaaray. ||2||1||31||
O’ Nanak, the humble service of the saints gives spiritual peace and happiness. ||2||1||31||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੧॥

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
simra-o simar simar sukh paava-o saas saas samaalay.
I remember and adore God with every breath and by doing so I receive celestial peace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ, ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਇਹ ਲੋਕਿ ਪਰਲੋਕਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ॥੧॥
ih lok parlok sang sahaa-ee jat kat mohi rakhvaalay. ||1||
In this and in the world beyond, God is with me as my help and support; He is my savior everywhere. ||1||
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਬਸੈ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
gur kaa bachan basai jee-a naalay.
The Guru’s divine word of God’s praises is always enshrined in my heart.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ ਨਹੀ ਡੂਬੈ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਲੇਵੈ ਭਾਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਜਾਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jal nahee doobai taskar nahee layvai bhaahi na saakai jaalay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The wealth Naam does not sink in water; thieves cannot steal it, and fire cannot burn it. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੋਰ ਚੁਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਅੱਗ ਸਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਿਰਧਨ ਕਉ ਧਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਉ ਟਿਕ ਮਾਤ ਦੂਧੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਲੇ ॥
nirDhan ka-o Dhan anDhulay ka-o tik maat dooDh jaisay baalay.
God’s Name is like wealth to the poor, a cane for the blind and mother’s milk for the infant.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੈ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਡੰਗੋਰੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਧ l
ਸਾਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੇ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੨॥
saagar meh bohith paa-i-o har naanak karee kirpaa kirpaalay. ||2||1||32||
O’ Nanak, on whom the merciful God bestowed mercy, received Naam which is like a ship in this worldly ocean of vices. ||2||1||32||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ) ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ (ਜੋ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੨॥

Raag Dhanasri, Fifth Guru:
ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਿੰਚਾਈ ॥
bha-ay kirpaal da-i-aal gobindaa amrit ridai sinchaa-ee.
Those on whom the merciful God of the universe became kind, the ambrosial nectar of Naam got permeated in their hearts.
ਜਿਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਮ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ
ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੀ ਜਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
nav niDh riDh siDh har laag rahee jan paa-ee. ||1||
The nine treasures of the world and the miraculous powers are always at the service of God’s devotees, as if these are under their feet. ||1||
ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ, ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤਨ ਕਉ ਅਨਦੁ ਸਗਲ ਹੀ ਜਾਈ ॥
santan ka-o anad sagal hee jaa-ee.
The saints feel a sense of peace and bliss at all places.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰਸਭਨੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਠਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
garihi baahar thaakur bhagtan kaa rav rahi-aa sarab thaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The devotees experience God, their savior, pervading everywhere. ||1||Pause||
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ, ਘਰੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਸਭਨੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰਾ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਗਿ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
taa ka-o ko-ay na pahuchanhaaraa jaa kai ang gusaa-ee.
No one can equal that person who has God Himself on his side.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੨॥੨॥੩੩॥
jam kee taraas mitai jis simrat naanak naam Dhi-aa-ee. ||2||2||33||
O’ Nanak, meditate on the Name of God, remembering whom even the fear of death ends. ||2||2||33||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੨॥੨॥੩੩॥

Raag Dhanasri, Fifth Gurul:
ਦਰਬਵੰਤੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬੈ ਭੂਮਵੰਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
darabvant darab daykh garbai bhoomvant abhimaanee.
A wealthy person feels egoistic upon seeing his wealth, and a landlord becomes arrogant because of his land.
ਧਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਨੈ ਸਗਲ ਰਾਜੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਟੇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥
raajaa jaanai sagal raaj hamraa ti-o har jan tayk su-aamee. ||1||
A king feels proud knowing that the entire kingdom is his; similarly God’s devotee feels proud of the support of his Master-God ||1||
ਰਾਜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੇਸ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਾਜ ਹੈ (ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਓਟ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥
jay ko-oo apunee ot samaarai.
If one enshrine God, the real support, in his mind,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਓਟ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖੇ,
ਜੈਸਾ ਬਿਤੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਬਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaisaa bit taisaa ho-ay vartai apunaa bal nahee haarai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
then he does not get discourged because he lives by his means and doesn’t become egoistic; and he doesn’t loose human values. ||1||Pause||
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਤੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਰਦਾ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਤ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਵਿਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਨ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਭਏ ਇਕ ਆਸਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਏ ॥
aan ti-aag bha-ay ik aasar saran saran kar aa-ay.
Abandoning all other supports, those who come to God’s refuge, while saying again and again, O’ God, we have come to Your refuge.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਇਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ,
ਸੰਤ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ॥੨॥੩॥੩੪॥
sant anugrah bha-ay man nirmal naanak har gun gaa-ay. ||2||3||34||
O’ Nanak, through the Guru’s grace, their mind becomes immaculate by singing God’s praises. ||2||3||34||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੩॥੩੪॥

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਸੂਰਾ ॥
jaa ka-o har rang laago is jug meh so kahee-at hai sooraa.
In this world, he who is imbued with God’s love is called brave.
ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਲੱਗ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਤਮ ਜਿਣੈ ਸਗਲ ਵਸਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੧॥
aatam jinai sagal vas taa kai jaa kaa satgur pooraa. ||1||
The one whose true Guru is perfect, conquers his mind and everything comes under his control. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
