ਅਉਖਧ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੂਲ ਮਨ ਏਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
a-ukhaDh mantar mool man aykai man bisvaas parabh Dhaari-aa.
The primal mantra of God’s Name is the only cure for the mind; one who has reposed faith in God in his mind,
ਮਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਵਾਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਧਾਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਚਰਨ ਰੇਨ ਬਾਂਛੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੨॥੧੬॥
charan rayn baaNchhai nit naanak punah punah balihaari-aa. ||2||16||
Nanak always seeks the most humble service of that person and is dedicated to him forever. ||2||16||
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਸਦਾ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧੬॥

Raag Dhanasri, Fifth Guru:
ਮੇਰਾ ਲਾਗੋ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ॥
mayraa laago raam si-o hayt.
I have fallen in love with God.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੁਖ ਕਾ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਕੇਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur mayraa sadaa sahaa-ee jin dukh kaa kaati-aa kayt. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My true Guru is always my helper who has erased all of my sorrow, as if he has cut it from its very root. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਮੈਂਡੇ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਦੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
haath day-ay raakhi-o apunaa kar birthaa sagal mitaa-ee.
God saves His devotees by extending His support; He (God) eradicates all their sorrows by considering them His own devotees.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਕਾਲੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥
nindak kay mukh kaalay keenay jan kaa aap sahaa-ee. ||1||
God Himself becomes the help and support of His devotees and disgraces their slanderers. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਹੋਆ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
saachaa saahib ho-aa rakhvaalaa raakh lee-ay kanth laa-ay.
The eternal God is the saviour of His devotees and protects them by keeping them very close to Himself.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪ) ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੨॥੧੭॥
nirbha-o bha-ay sadaa sukh maanay naanak har gun gaa-ay. ||2||17||
O’ Nanak, by singing God’s praises the devotees become fearless and alwaysenjoy the spiritual peace. ||2||17||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ, ਤੇ, ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਕੇ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੧੭॥

Raag Dhanasri, Fifth Guru:
ਅਉਖਧੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
a-ukhaDh tayro naam da-i-aal.
O’ the merciful God, Your Name is the remedy for all maladies,
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮਹਰੇਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ,
ਮੋਹਿ ਆਤੁਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mohi aatur tayree gat nahee jaanee tooN aap karahi partipaal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but I, the wretched one, have not understood Your supreme spiritual status; You Yourself provide me sustenance. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਦੁੱਖੀਏ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਤਨੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥
Dhaar anoograhu su-aamee mayray dutee-aa bhaa-o nivaar.
O’ my Master, show mercy and remove my love for the worldly riches and power.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ।
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਆਵਹ ਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
banDhan kaat layho apunay kar kabhoo na aavah haar. ||1||
O’ God! cut off our worldly bonds and make us Your own, so that we may never come to You after losing the game of life. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਡੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਲਵੋ, ਅਸੀਂ ਕਦੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਹ ਆਵੀਏ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਇਆ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
tayree saran pa-i-aa ha-o jeevaaN tooN samrath purakh miharvaan.
O’ God, You are the all-powerful, all pervading and merciful; I spiritually survive only in Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਉਤੇ) ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਆਰਾਧੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੧੮॥
aath pahar parabh ka-o aaraaDhee naanak sad kurbaan. ||2||18||
O’ Nanak, I am dedicated to You forever; this is my prayer that I may alwaysremember God with loving devotion. ||2||18||
ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥੧੮॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਾ ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥
haa haa parabh raakh layho.
O God, please save us, save us from these vices!
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ।
ਹਮ ਤੇ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham tay kichhoo na ho-ay mayray savaamee kar kirpaa apunaa naam dayh. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my Master, we ourselves can do nothing to escape from vices; bestow mercy and bless us with Your Name. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਗਨਿ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
agan kutamb saagar sansaar.
O’ God, the family and the world is like a sea of fire,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
bharam moh agi-aan anDhaar. ||1||
filled with darkness of delusion, worldly attachment and ignorance. ||1||
ਭਟਕਣਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਸੂਖ ਦੂਖ ॥
ooch neech sookh dookh.
On receiving all the comforts one becomes egotistical and depressed facing bad times or sorrows.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੇ ਨਿੱਘਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਾਲਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਧ੍ਰਾਪਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ॥੨॥
Dharaapas naahee tarisnaa bhookh. ||2||
One’s yearning for worldly riches is never quenched. ||2||
ਜੀਵ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ) ਰੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ॥੨॥
ਮਨਿ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਰਚਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ॥
man baasnaa rach bikhai bi-aaDh.
O’ God, the mind filled with worldly desires causes one to get engrossed in vices and afflicted with maladies.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਖੜੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਰੋਗ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਹਾ ਅਸਾਧ ॥੩॥
panch doot sang mahaa asaaDh. ||3||
The five totally incurable demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego). remain clinging to him. ||3||
ਇਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਆਕੀ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜ ਵੈਰੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਜੀਅ ਜਹਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
jee-a jahaan paraan Dhan tayraa.
O’ God, all these beings, their breaths, the wealth and the entire world is Yours
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ, ਇਹ ਜਗਤ, ਇਹ ਧਨ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੯॥
naanak jaan sadaa har nayraa. ||4||1||19||
O’ Nanak, know that God is always near at hand. ||4||1||19|

ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਆਪਿ ॥
deen darad nivaar thaakur raakhai jan kee aap.
God destroys the pain of the meek and preserves the honor of His devotees.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਨਾਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਰਣ ਤਾਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥੧॥
taran taaran har niDh dookh na sakai bi-aap. ||1||
God is like a ship that ferries us across the world-ocean of vices; He is the treasure of virtues, no pain can afflict us by seeking His refuge. ||1||
ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਾਨੋ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਜਹੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥
saaDhoo sang bhajahu gupaal.
O’ my friends, meditate on God’s Name by dwelling in the company of the Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਆਨ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਇਹ ਜਤਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਲਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan sanjam kichh na soojhai ih jatan kaat kal kaal. rahaa-o.
I cannot think of any other way; make the effort of meditating on God’s Name and cut the noose of worldly entanglements. ||Pause||
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਜਤਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ। (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
aad ant da-i-aal pooran tis binaa nahee ko-ay.
All pervading merciful God, who is the protector of His beings from the beginning to the end; there is none other like Him.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਦਇਆ-ਦਾ-ਘਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
janam maran nivaar har jap simar su-aamee so-ay. ||2||
Always meditate on that God with loving devotion and liberate yourself from the cycle of birth and death. ||2||
ਉਸੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਉਸੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ॥੨॥
ਬੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕਥੈ ਸਾਸਤ ਭਗਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
bayd simrit kathai saasat bhagat karahi beechaar.
The Vedas, the Smritis, the Shastras proclaims and all the devotees after due reflection agree that,
ਵੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ, ਭਗਤ ਜਨਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਏਕ ॥
