ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
jap man sat naam sadaa sat naam.
O’ my mind, always meditate on the Name of eternal God.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
halat palat mukh oojal ho-ee hai nit Dhi-aa-ee-ai har purakh niranjanaa. rahaa-o.
We should daily meditate on the all pervading immaculate God, by doing so we receive honor both here and hereafter. ||Pause||
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਖੱਟ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜਹ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਹ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਗਤੁ ਕੀਨੀ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨਾ ॥
jah har simran bha-i-aa tah upaaDh gat keenee vadbhaagee har japnaa.
All strife goes away from the heart which remembers God; however it is only by great good fortune that we meditate on God.
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਝਗੜਾ-ਬਖੇੜਾ ਚਾਲੇ ਪਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਨਾ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੨॥
jan naanak ka-o gur ih mat deenee jap har bhavjal tarnaa. ||2||6||12||
The Guru has blessed devotee Nanak with this understanding, that by meditating on God, we cross over the terrifying world-ocean of vices. ||2||6||12||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੨॥

Raag Dhanasri, Fourth Guru:
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
mayray saahaa mai har darsan sukh ho-ay.
O’ my Master, Celestial peace prevails in my mind by Your blessed vision.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ , ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਮਰੀ ਬੇਦਨਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਨਤਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hamree baydan too jaantaa saahaa avar ki-aa jaanai ko-ay. rahaa-o.
O’ my sovereign king, You alone know my pangs of separation from You, what can anyone else know? ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਕੀ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
saachaa saahib sach too mayray saahaa tayraa kee-aa sach sabh ho-ay.
O’ my God, You are the eternal Master; whatever You do, all that is true.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈਂ। ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੈ l
ਝੂਠਾ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਾਹਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
jhoothaa kis ka-o aakhee-ai saahaa doojaa naahee ko-ay. ||1||
O’ Master, whom we may call false, when there is none else except You? ||1||
ਹੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! (ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
sabhnaa vich too varatdaa saahaa sabh tujheh Dhi-aavahi din raat.
O’ my God, You pervade all, and everyone meditates upon You day and night.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
sabh tujh hee thaavhu mangday mayray saahaa too sabhnaa karahi ik daat. ||2||
O’ my Master, everyone begs of You, You alone give gifts to all. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ (ਮੰਗਾਂ) ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
sabh ko tujh hee vich hai mayray saahaa tujh tay baahar ko-ee naahi.
O’ my sovereign King, all the creation is under Your command, none can go outside Your command.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ!ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਆਕੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਸਭਸ ਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
sabh jee-a tayray too sabhas daa mayray saahaa sabh tujh hee maahi samaahi. ||3||
O’ my sovereign King, all creatures are Yours, and You belong to all, and all of them ultimately merge in You. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਸਭਨਾ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਆਸ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹ ॥
sabhnaa kee too aas hai mayray pi-aaray sabh tujheh Dhi-aavahi mayray saah.
O’ my beloved God, You are the hope of everyone; O’ my sovereign King, all lovingly remember You.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਸਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੩॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o rakh too mayray pi-aaray sach naanak kay paatisaah. ||4||7||13||
O’ the eternal King of Nanak, O’ my beloved God, protect me as it pleases You.||4||7||13||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਖ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੩॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੇ ॥
bhav khandan dukh bhanjan savaamee bhagat vachhal nirankaaray.
O’ my formless Master-God, the destroyer of cycles of birth and death, dispeller of sorrows and the lover of devotional worship;
ਹੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ!
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਮਿਟੇ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
kot paraaDh mitay khin bheetar jaaN gurmukh naam samaaray. ||1||
by following the Guru’s teachings, when someone enshrinesYour Name in his heart, millions of his sins are erased in an instant. ||1||.
ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
mayraa man laagaa hai raam pi-aaray.
My mind is attuned to my beloved God .
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਨਾਲ ਗਿੱਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਕਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen da-i-aal karee parabh kirpaa vas keenay panch dootaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God, merciful to the meek, bestowed His mercy and has placed the five demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego) under my control. ||1||Pause||
ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਪੰਜੇ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਵੈਰੀ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
tayraa thaan suhaavaa roop suhaavaa tayray bhagat soheh darbaaray.
Your place is so beautiful; Your form is so beautiful; Your devotees look so beautiful in Your presence.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
sarab jee-aa kay daatay su-aamee kar kirpaa layho ubaaray. ||2||
O’ Master-God, the benefactor of all beings, bestow mercy and save me from the vices. ||2||.
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ; (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੨॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਵਰਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
tayraa varan na jaapai roop na lakhee-ai tayree kudrat ka-un beechaaray.
O’ God, Your color is not visible and Your form is not apparent; there is nobody who can comprehend Your power.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ; ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ। ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋਚ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਤਨੀ ਕੁ ਤਾਕਤ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਠਾਈ ਅਗਮ ਰੂਪ ਗਿਰਧਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
jal thal mahee-al ravi-aa sarab thaa-ee agam roop girDhaaray. ||3||
O’ God of incomprehensible beauty, You are pervading in waters, lands, spaces and all other places. ||3||
ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ(ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਪਰ੍ਹੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ! ਤੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ॥੩॥
ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
keerat karahi sagal jan tayree too abhinaasee purakh muraaray.
O’ God, You are eternal and all pervading; all the devotees sing Your praises.
ਹੇ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ;ਸਾਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakho su-aamee jan naanak saran du-aaray. ||4||1||
O’ God, devotee Nanak has come to Your refuge, save me as You wish. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹੈਂ । ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਹੈ ਮੀਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਲ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ਬਢਾਇਓ ॥
bin jal paraan tajay hai meenaa jin jal si-o hayt badhaa-i-o.
The fish out of water loses its life because it is deeply in love with water.
ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ (ਮੱਛੀ) ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਮਲ ਹੇਤਿ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਹੈ ਭਵਰਾ ਉਨਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਨਿਕਸਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
kamal hayt binsi-o hai bhavraa un maarag nikas na paa-i-o. ||1||
In love with the lotus flower, the bumble bee perishes in it because it doesn’t find the way to escape from it. ||1||.
ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਭੌਰੇ ਨੇ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲਈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਵਿਚੋਂਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਭਾ ॥੧॥
ਅਬ ਮਨ ਏਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਮੋਹੁ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
ab man aykas si-o moh keenaa.
Now, my mind has nurtured love for the one God,
ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੰਗੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
marai na jaavai sad hee sangay satgur sabdee cheenaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who neither dies, nor goes anywhere and is always in my company. I have understood Him by reflecting on the true Guru’s word. ||1||Pause||
