ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਕਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੪॥
parabh saachay kee saachee kaar. naanak naam savaaranhaar. ||4||4||
O’ Nanak, the true nature of the eternal God is that He is the embellisher of all through Naam. ||4||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਅਟੱਲ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਹੈ,ਕਿਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥

Dhanaasree mehlaa 3.
Raag Dhanasri, Third Guru:
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jo har sayveh tin bal jaa-o.
I dedicate myself to those who meditate on God with loving devotion,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਤਿਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
tin hirdai saach sachaa mukh naa-o.
because truth is in their heart and God’s Name on their tongue.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
saacho saach samaalihu dukh jaa-ay.
O’ my friends, always keep remembering the eternal God; by doing so the misery goes away.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰੋ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
saachai sabad vasai man aa-ay. ||1||
and the presence of eternal God is realized through the word of His praises. ||1||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
gurbaanee sun mail gavaa-ay.
O’ my friend, listen to the Guru’s word; it washes the dirt of vices from the mind,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sehjay har naam man vasaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and intuitively enshrines God’s Name in it. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ (ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
koorh kusat tarisnaa agan bujhaa-ay.
The Guru’s divine word dispels falsehood and evil intent; it quenches the fierceworldly desires,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਝੂਠ ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
antar saaNt sahj sukh paa-ay.
and one finds tranquility, poise and celestial peace within.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur kai bhaanai chalai taa aap jaa-ay.
When one follows the Guru’s teachings, then his self-conceit goes away.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਚੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੨॥
saach mahal paa-ay har gun gaa-ay. ||2||
and by singing God’s praises, he attains an eternal place in God’s presence. ||2||
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ॥੨॥
ਨ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
na sabad boojhai na jaanai banee.
One who neither understands the Guru’s divine word, nor cares about it,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥
manmukh anDhay dukh vihaanee.
that self-willed, ignorant person passes his life in misery.
ਉਸ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
satgur bhaytay taa sukh paa-ay.
But if he meets and follows the teachings of the True Guru, then he finds celestial peace,
ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਵੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੩॥
ha-umai vichahu thaak rahaa-ay. ||3||
because the Guru puts a stop to his ego within. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਦਾਤਾ ਇਕੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
kis no kahee-ai daataa ik so-ay.
Whom else should we pray to, when God alone is the benefactor?
ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਜਦ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਫ਼ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ?
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
kirpaa karay sabad milaavaa ho-ay.
When God shows mercy, then we unite with Him through the Guru’s word.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ॥
mil pareetam saachay gun gaavaa.
I can sing the praises of the eternal God only upon meeting my beloved-Guru.
(ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਵਾ ॥੪॥੫॥
naanak saachay saachaa bhaavaa. ||4||5||
O’ Nanak, I can become pleasing to the eternal God only by becoming truthfulthrough meditating on Naam. ||4||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਵਾਦੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੫॥
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
Dhanaasree mehlaa 3.
Raag Dhanasri, Third Guru:
ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਧਾਤੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
man marai Dhaat mar jaa-ay.
When the mind is conquered, its turbulent wanderings come under control;
ਜਦ ਮਨ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ ਭੱਜ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ) ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਮੂਏ ਕੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
bin man moo-ay kaisay har paa-ay.
Without conquering the mind, how can one realize God?
ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਦਾਰੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
ih man marai daaroo jaanai ko-ay.
Rare is the one who knows the medicine (the way) to conquer the mind.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜਣਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
man sabad marai boojhai jan so-ay. ||1||
Only that person knows that the mind is conquered through the Guru’s divine word. ||1||
ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਜਣਾ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jis no bakhsay har day vadi-aa-ee.
On whom God becomes gracious and blesses with honor;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaad vasai man aa-ee. rahaa-o.
by the Guru’s grace, he comes to realize God’s presence in his heart. ||Pause||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh karnee kaar kamaavai.
When one follows the Guru’s teachings and does virtuous deeds,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਿਲੀ) ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
taa is man kee sojhee paavai.
then he understands the way to conquer this mind.
ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਨ (ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਣ) ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਮੈ ਮਤੁ ਮੈਗਲ ਮਿਕਦਾਰਾ ॥
man mai mat maigal mikdaaraa.
The mind remains intoxicated with ego like a drunk elephant;
)ਮਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਮਸਤ) ਹਾਥੀ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
gur ankas maar jeevaalanhaaraa. ||2||
only the Guru’s goad (teachings) can rejuvenate the spiritually dead mind. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ) ਕੁੰਡਾ ਵਰਤ ਕੇਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮਨੁ ਅਸਾਧੁ ਸਾਧੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
man asaaDh saaDhai jan ko-ee.
Ordinarily the mind is uncontrollable; only a rare person can control it.
ਮਨ ਅਜਿੱਤ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
achar charai taa nirmal ho-ee.
If one controls his vices like lust greed etc, which are very difficult to control, only then his mind becomes immaculate.
ਜੇਕਰਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਖਾਧ ਨੂੰ ਖਾ ਜਾਵੇ(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਵੇ), ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਇਆ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh ih man la-i-aa savaar.
A Guru’s follower embellishes his mind,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਤਜੈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
ha-umai vichahu tajai vikaar. ||3||
and drives out the ego and vices from within. ||3||
ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਰਖਿਅਨੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jo Dhur rakhi-an mayl milaa-ay.
Those whom God has united with Him from the very beginning,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਧੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
kaday na vichhurheh sabad samaa-ay.
they remain merged in the Guru’s word and are never separated from God.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਦੇ।
ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
aapnee kalaa aapay parabh jaanai.
Only God Himself knows His own power.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀਤਾਕਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥੬॥
naanak gurmukh naam pachhaanai. ||4||6||
O’ Nanak, only a Guru’s follower realizes Naam. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

ਕਾਚਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
kaachaa Dhan saNcheh moorakh gaavaar.
The ignorant fools amass only the false or perishable worldly wealth.
ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਲੋਕ (ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਧਨ (ਹੀ) ਜੋੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਅੰਧ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
manmukh bhoolay anDh gaavaar.
Self-willed fools blind in the love for Maya are strayed from the righteous path.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੈ ਧਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
bikhi-aa kai Dhan sadaa dukh ho-ay.
Theworldly wealth without Naam brings constant misery.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਧਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾ ਸਾਥਿ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
naa saath jaa-ay na paraapat ho-ay. ||1||
It neither goes with anyone, nor one obtains any contentment from it. ||1||
ਇਹ ਧਨ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਾਚਾ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
saachaa Dhan gurmatee paa-ay.
True wealth of Naam is received through the Guru’s teachings.
ਸੱਚਾ ਧਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਾਚਾ ਧਨੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaachaa Dhan fun aavai jaa-ay. rahaa-o.
The false, perishable worldly wealth continues coming and going. ||Pause||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਧਨ ਕਦੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
manmukh bhoolay sabh mareh gavaar.
The foolish self-willed people all go astray and die spiritually.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਭਵਜਲਿ ਡੂਬੇ ਨ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
bhavjal doobay na urvaar na paar.
They drown in the terrifying world-ocean and in the end they neither have the worldly wealth nor the wealth of Naam.
ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਉਰਲੇ ਬੰਨੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਪਾਰਲੇ ਬੰਨੇ (ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਥ ਤੋੜ ਨਿਬਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ॥
satgur bhaytay poorai bhaag.
Those who, by perfect destiny, meet the true Guru and follow his teachings,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥੨॥
saach ratay ahinis bairaag. ||2||
always remain imbued with the eternal God’s Name and become detached from Maya, the worldly riches and power. ||2||
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
chahu jug meh amrit saachee banee.
Throughout the four ages, the Guru’s divine word of the eternal God ‘s praises has been the ambrosial nectar;
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ (ਵੰਡਦੀ ਹੈ),
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
poorai bhaag har naam samaanee.
by perfect destiny, one is imbued with it and merges in God’s Name.
ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਤਰਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਇ ॥
siDh saaDhik tarseh sabh lo-ay.
All the adepts and seekers of the entire world yearn for the divine word,
ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
poorai bhaag paraapat ho-ay. ||3||
but only by perfect destiny one is blessed with it. ||3||
ਪਰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ) ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਊਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
sabh kichh saachaa saachaa hai so-ay. ootam barahm pachhaanai ko-ay.
It is only a rare person who realizes the supreme God; he beholds the eternal God in everything and everywhere,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ,ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਆਪਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
sach saachaa sach aap drirh-aa-ay.
The eternal God Himself implants the eternal Naam in the hearts of the human beings.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
