ਤਿਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥੨॥
tinaa pichhai chhutee-ai pi-aaray jo saachee sarnaa-ay. ||2||
O’ dear, we are also saved by following the example of such persons who seek the refuge of the eternal God.||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਨਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮਿਠਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਇਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
mithaa kar kai khaa-i-aa pi-aaray tin tan keetaa rog.
O’ dear, whatever one eats deeming as sweet (worldly pleasures), it becomes the cause of disease in the body.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਛ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਕਉੜਾ ਹੋਇ ਪਤਿਸਟਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
ka-urhaa ho-ay patisati-aa pi-aaray tis tay upji-aa sog.
That disease becomes painful and chronic and results in depression and anxiety.
ਉਹ ਰੋਗ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ (ਰੋਗ) ਤੋਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਗ਼ਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਭੋਗ ਭੁੰਚਾਇ ਭੁਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਉਤਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ॥
bhog bhunchaa-ay bhulaa-i-an pi-aaray utrai nahee vijog.
By making people to enjoy these worldly pleasures, God has strayed them from the right path, due to which the pain of separation from Him does not end.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਖਵਾ ਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਵਿਛੋੜ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਉਧਾਰਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਧੁਰੇ ਪਇਆ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੩॥
jo gur mayl uDhaari-aa pi-aaray tin Dhuray pa-i-aa sanjog. ||3||
Those who were preordained, God saved them from such false worldly pleasures by uniting with the Guru. ||3||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ,,ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮੇਲ ਧੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਅਟਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਮੂਲਿ ॥
maa-i-aa laalach ati-aa pi-aaray chit na aavahi mool.
O’ dear God, You don’t come into the mind of those who always remain engrossed in the pursuits and the greed for worldly riches and power.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ।
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਏ ਧੂੜਿ ॥
jin too visrahi paarbarahm su-aamee say tan ho-ay Dhoorh.
O’ the Master-God, the bodies of those who forget You become useless like dust.
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਲਲਾਟ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਉਤਰੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੂਲੁ ॥
billaat karahi bahutayri-aa pi-aaray utrai naahee sool.
They cry out and scream horribly, O Beloved, but their torment does not end.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਕਾਰਨ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਵਿਲਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਮੂਲੁ ॥੪॥
jo gur mayl savaari-aa pi-aaray tin kaa rahi-aa mool. ||4||
O’ dear, those whom God embellishes by uniting with the Guru, their true wealth, the wealth of Naam, remains intact.||4||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਜਈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜੇ ਕਾ ਪਾਰਿ ਵਸਾਇ ॥
saakat sang na keej-ee pi-aaray jay kaa paar vasaa-ay.
O’ dear, as far as possible, do not associate with the faithless cynics,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਵੱਸ ਲੱਗੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੋੁ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
jis mili-ai har visrai pi-aaray so muhi kaalai uth jaa-ay.
because by meeting them, one forsakes God and consequently departs from the world in disgrace.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
manmukh dho-ee nah milai pi-aaray dargeh milai sajaa-ay.
O’ dear, a self-willed person finds no place in God’s presence, and is awarded punishment.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਗੋਂ ਉਥੇ) ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥
jo gur mayl savaari-aa pi-aaray tinaa pooree paa-ay. ||5||
O’ dear, those whom God embellished by uniting with the Guru, achieved total success in life.||5||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸੰਜਮ ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਇਕ ਨ ਚਲੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
sanjam sahas si-aanpaa pi-aaray ik na chalee naal.
O’ dear, None out of the thousands of of clever tricks and techniques of austere and self-discipline helps a person in the end.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਸੰਜਮ ਤੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮਦਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।
ਜੋ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੁਲਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਗਾਲਿ ॥
jo baymukh gobind tay pi-aaray tin kul laagai gaal.
Those who turn away from God, their entire lineage is disgraced.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਭਵਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ (ਤਾਂ) ਖ਼ਾਨਦਾਨ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਕਲੰਕ ਦਾ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਦੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਤੀਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਨ ਚਲੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
hodee vasat na jaatee-aa pi-aaray koorh na chalee naal.
One does not realize the wealth of Naam pervading in his heart; O dear the false worldly wealth does not accompany in the end.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ, ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਮਿਲਾਇਓਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੬॥
satgur jinaa milaa-i-on pi-aaray saachaa naam samaal. ||6||
O’ dear, those whom God has united with the true Guru, they keep enshrined in their hearts the Name of the eternal God. ||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
sat santokh gi-aan Dhi-aan pi-aaray jis no nadar karay.
O’ dear, one on whom God bestows His grace, is blessed with virtues such as truth, contentment, divine wisdom and meditation.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੂਰ ਭਰੇ ॥
an-din keertan gun ravai pi-aaray amrit poor bharay.
That person always sings God’s praises, remembers His virtues and remains totally fulfilled with the ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨੱਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
dukh saagar tin langhi-aa pi-aaray bhavjal paar paray.
They cross over the sea of sufferings; O’ dear, they swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੇਈ ਸਦਾ ਖਰੇ ॥੭॥
jis bhaavai tis mayl laihi pi-aaray say-ee sadaa kharay. ||7||
O’ dear God, whoever is pleasing to You, You unite them with Yourself, and they become immaculate forever. ||7||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਚੰਗੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੇਉ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਗਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
samrath purakh da-i-aal day-o pi-aaray bhagtaa tis kaa taan.
O’ dear, the all pervading God is all-powerful and merciful; His devotees always have His support.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਢਹਿ ਪਏ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
tis sarnaa-ee dheh pa-ay pi-aaray je antarjaamee jaan.
O’ dear, the devotees remain in the refuge of that God who is omniscient and sagacious.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
halat palat savaari-aa pi-aaray mastak sach neesaan.
O’ dear, this world and the world hereafter of the one is adorned, upon whom God bestows the everlasting insignia of approval
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੋਹਰ ਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੰਵਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੮॥੨॥
so parabh kaday na veesrai pi-aaray naanak sad kurbaan. ||8||2||
O’ Nanak, I may never forget that God; I am dedicated to Him forever. ||8||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ। ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੮॥੨॥
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੨ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਠੁ ਪੜਿਓ ਅਰੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਨਿਵਲਿ ਭੁਅੰਗਮ ਸਾਧੇ ॥
paath parhi-o ar bayd beechaari-o nival bhu-angam saaDhay.
One may read scriptures and contemplate them; one may practice the inner cleansing techniques of Yoga and control of the breath,
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਨੂੰ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਵਲੀਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਕੁੰਡਲਨੀ ਨਾੜੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਚ ਜਨਾ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਛੁਟਕਿਓ ਅਧਿਕ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਬਾਧੇ ॥੧॥
panch janaa si-o sang na chhutki-o aDhik ahaN-buDh baaDhay. ||1||
but with these yogic practices one cannot escape from the five vices, instead one is increasingly bound to egotism. ||1||
(ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸਾਥ ਮੁੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਸਗੋਂ) ਵਧੀਕ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਬੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਮੈ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਮ ਅਨੇਕਾ ॥
pi-aaray in biDh milan na jaa-ee mai kee-ay karam anaykaa.
O’ dear, these are not the ways to realize God; I have seen people performing many of these rituals.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਲੋਕ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ (ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾl
ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
haar pari-o su-aamee kai du-aarai deejai buDh bibaykaa. rahaa-o.
O’ God, I have forsaken these rituals and come to Your refuge, please bless me with discerning intellect. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭਲਾਈ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇਹ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮੋਨਿ ਭਇਓ ਕਰਪਾਤੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਗਨ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਬਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
mon bha-i-o karpaatee rahi-o nagan firi-o ban maahee.
One may remain silent, use his hands as begging bowls and may wander naked in the forest,
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੁੱਪ ਰਹੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੱਤਲ ਬਣਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਨੰਗ-ਧੜੰਗ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਹੇ,
ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਭ ਧਰਤੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
tat tirath sabh Dhartee bharmi-o dubiDhaa chhutkai naahee. ||2||
One may make pilgrimages to river banks and sacred shrines all over the world, but his sense of duality (attraction for worldly riches and power) does not leave him. ||2||
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਢਿੰਆਂ, ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਜਮੀਨ ਤੇ ਰਟਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ, ਪਰ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਨਹੀ ਛੱਡਦੀ॥੨॥
