ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਭੇਖੁ ॥੭॥
gur ankas jin naam drirh-aa-i-aa bhaa-ee man vasi-aa chookaa bhaykh. ||7||
O’ brother, Guru’s word is like a goad, which make us realize Naam; hypocrisy departs when one realize the presence of Naam within. ||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਹ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ; ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਪਖੰਡ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ॥੭॥
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਾਟੁ ਸਰਾਫ ਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
ih tan haat saraafI ko bhaa-ee vakhar naam apaar.
This body is like a shop blessed by God, the jeweler; in which we have to trade the commodity of infinite Naam.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-ਸਰਾਫ਼ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਕ ਹੱਟ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਸੌਦਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਹੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ih vakhar vaapaaree so darirhai bhaa-ee gur sabad karay veechaar.
O’ brother, only that merchant amasses this commodity (wealth of Naam) who reflects on the Guru’s word.
ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਵਪਾਰੀ ਇਸ ਸੌਦੇ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਹੱਟ ਵਿਚ) ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਣਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਨੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਮੇਲਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੨॥
Dhan vaapaaree naankaa bhaa-ee mayl karay vaapaar. ||8||2||
O’ Nanak, blessed is that merchant who conducts this trade of Naam in the holy congregation. ||8||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਵਪਾਰੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਇਹ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੨॥

Raag Sorath, First Guru:
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਤਰੇ ॥
jinHee satgur sayvi-aa pi-aaray tinH kay saath taray.
O’ my dear, those who follow the Guru’s teachings, all their companions also crossed over the world-ocean of vices.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗੀ-ਸਾਥੀ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਹਰੇ ॥
tinHaa thaak na paa-ee-ai pi-aaray amrit rasan haray.
O’ dear, no obstruction of any kind comes in the spiritual journey of those, whose tongue always savors the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਚੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ।
ਬੂਡੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਭੈ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥
booday bhaaray bhai binaa pi-aaray taaray nadar karay. ||1||
O’ dear, without the revered fear of God, people loaded with sins drown in the world-ocean of vices, but when God casts His glance of grace, He ferries even them across. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭੀ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥
bhee toohai salaahnaa pi-aaray bhee tayree saalaah.
O Beloved God, we should always glorify You and forever sing Your praises.
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਦਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਣੁ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਭੈ ਡੁਬੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਇ ਕਹਾਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
vin bohith bhai dubee-ai pi-aaray kanDhee paa-ay kahaah. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without the ship of Your Name, we drown in this dreadful worldly ocean of vices, and cannot reach the shore across. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਭਉ-ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਕੰਢਾ ਲੱਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
saalaahee salaahnaa pi-aaray doojaa avar na ko-ay.
O’ dear friend, we need to sing the praises of the only praiseworthy God, as there is no other like Him.
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਸਾਲਾਹਣ-ਜੋਗ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
mayray parabh saalaahan say bhalay pi-aaray sabad ratay rang ho-ay.
O’ dear, fortunate are those who sing the praises of my God; one who sincerely follows the Guru’s word, gets imbued with the love of God.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਲਗਨ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਸੁ ਲੈ ਤਤੁ ਵਿਲੋਇ ॥੨॥
tis kee sangat jay milai pi-aaray ras lai tat vilo-ay. ||2||
O’ dear friend, if one receives the company of such a persons, then he enjoys the relish of Naam and realizes God by reflecting on it. ||2||
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਦੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ) ਰਿੜਕ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਸਾਚ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
pat parvaanaa saach kaa pi-aaray naam sachaa neesaan.
O’ my friend, meditation on Naam is like a gate-pass to unite with Husband-God; Naam is the insignia for acceptance in God’s presence.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੋਹਰ ਹੈ।
ਆਇਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਵਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
aa-i-aa likh lai jaavnaa pi-aaray hukmee hukam pachhaan.
Whosoever has come to this world is supposed to depart with such insignia of Naam; O’ dear, understand this command of God, the commander.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਭੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਜਾਣੀ ਹੈ,ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝl
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
gur bin hukam na boojhee-ai pi-aaray saachay saachaa taan. ||3||
O’ dear, God’s command cannot be understood without the Guru’s teachings; everlasting is the power of the eternal God. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਕਤ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ। ॥੩॥
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਿੰਮਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਉਦਰ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥
hukmai andar nimmi-aa pi-aaray hukmai udar majhaar.
O’ dear, by God’s command one is conceived and placed in the womb.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਮਾਤਾ ਦੇ ਗਰਭ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਊਧਉ ਸਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਰਿ ॥
hukmai andar jammi-aa pi-aaray ooDha-o sir kai bhaar.
O’ dear, it is as per God’s command, that one is born with head down.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ (ਫਿਰ)ਪੁੱਠਾ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਚਲੈ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
gurmukh dargeh jaanee-ai pi-aaray chalai kaaraj saar. ||4||
O’ dear, one who follows the Guru’s teachings and leaves the world after achieving the purpose of life, is honored in God’s presence. ||4||
ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਦੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
hukmai andar aa-i-aa pi-aaray hukmay jaado jaa-ay.
O’ dear, it is by God’s command that one comes into this world and departs from here under His command.
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਇਥੋਂ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਲਹੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
hukmay baneh chalaa-ee-ai pi-aaray manmukh lahai sajaa-ay.
O’ dear, by God’s command, a self-willed person is driven away from here to be punished.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੋਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਅਤੇ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥
hukmay sabad pachhaanee-ai pi-aaray dargeh paiDhaa jaa-ay. ||5||
O’ dear, by God’ will, one who realizes Him through the Guru’s word, goes to His presence with honor. ||5||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੋਇ ॥
hukmay ganat ganaa-ee-ai pi-aaray hukmay ha-umai do-ay.
O’ dear, it is by His command that one is counting his good and bad deeds, and it is by His will that people suffer in egotism and duality.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ-ਪੱਤਾ ਕਰ ਰਹਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਭਵੈ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਰੋਇ ॥
hukmay bhavai bhavaa-ee-ai pi-aaray avgan muthee ro-ay.
By God’s will, some wanders around in the love of worldly riches and power; and somewhere people deceived by sins are crying out.
ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਧੱਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਠੱਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ!
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ਸਾਹ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥
hukam sinjaapai saah kaa pi-aaray sach milai vadi-aa-ee ho-ay. ||6||
O dear, one who understands God’s command, realizes Him and receives honor in the world. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ॥
aakhan a-ukhaa aakhee-ai pi-aaray ki-o sunee-ai sach naa-o.
O dear, if it is so difficult to utter God’s Name, then how can we listen to His eternal Name?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਬੜਾ ਕਠਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਆਪਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ?
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jinHee so salaahi-aa pi-aaray ha-o tinH balihaarai jaa-o.
O’ dear, I am dedicated to those who have praised that God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੭॥
naa-o milai santokhee-aaN pi-aaray nadree mayl milaa-o. ||7||
O’ dear, if I could receive Naam, I would be content and if the merciful God unites, then I would remain united with Him. ||7||
ਜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਜੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੭॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਸਵਾਣੀ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
kaa-i-aa kaagad jay thee-ai pi-aaray man masvaanee Dhaar.
O’ my dear, if our body becomes paper, mind the ink pot, and
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਜੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਹੀ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਤ ਬਣਾ ਲਈਏ,
ਲਲਤਾ ਲੇਖਣਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਲਿਖਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
laltaa laykhan sach kee pi-aaray har gun likhahu veechaar.
tongue becomes the pen for writing God’s praises, then O’ my dear, reflect and keep writing about the virtues of God.
ਜੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਭ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਲਿਖਣ ਲਈ ਕਲਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉੱਕਰਦੇ ਚੱਲੋ।
ਧਨੁ ਲੇਖਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਲਿਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੩॥
Dhan laykhaaree naankaa pi-aaray saach likhai ur Dhaar. ||8||3||
O’ Nanak, blessed is that scribe, who, having enshrined the eternal God in his heart, inscribes His virtues within. ||8||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉੱਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੩॥

ਤੂ ਗੁਣਦਾਤੌ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
too gundaatou nirmalo bhaa-ee nirmal naa man ho-ay.
O’ dear God, You are immaculate giver of virtues but because of evil thoughts, our mind is not pure.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈਂ। ਪਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਾਡਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੇ ਭਾਈ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
ham apraaDhee nirgunay bhaa-ee tujh hee tay gun so-ay. ||1||
O’ dear God, we are sinners and without any virtues; it is only from You that we can receive that virtue to purify our mind. ||1||
ਅਸੀਂ ਪਾਪੀ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਦਾ) ਉਹ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ॥
mayray pareetamaa too kartaa kar vaykh.
O’ my Beloved God, You are my creator and after creating, You take care of me.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ) ਮੇਰੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ l
ਹਉ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਖੰਡੀਆ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ha-o paapee paakhandee-aa bhaa-ee man tan naam visaykh. rahaa-o.
O’ Dear God, I am a sinner and a hypocrite; enshrine Your sublime Name in my mind and body. ||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਪਾਪੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪਖੰਡੀ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰ ਦੇ। ਰਹਾਉ॥
