ਅਪਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
apnay gur oopar kurbaan.
I am dedicated to my Guru,
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਹੋਏ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bha-ay kirpaal pooran parabh daatay jee-a ho-ay miharvaan. rahaa-o.
because of whom the all pervading God, the great bestower, has become merciful and kind to all beings. ||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ , ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ||ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥
naanak jan sarnaa-ee.
O’ Nanak, remain in that God’s refuge,
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੋ,
ਜਿਨਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥
jin pooran paij rakhaa-ee.
who has completely saved the honor of those who remain in His refuge,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ,
ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
saglay dookh mitaa-ee.
and has dispelled all their sufferings.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
ਸੁਖੁ ਭੁੰਚਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੨॥੨੮॥੯੨॥
sukh bhunchahu mayray bhaa-ee. ||2||28||92||
O’ my brothers, now you may also enjoy the spiritual peace. ||2||28||92||

ਸੁਨਹੁ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sunhu binantee thaakur mayray jee-a jant tayray Dhaaray.
O’ my Master-God, listen to my prayer, all beings and creatures are dependent on Your support.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਮੇਰੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ, ਸਾਰੇ ਨਿੱਕੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹਨ ।
ਰਾਖੁ ਪੈਜ ਨਾਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
raakh paij naam apunay kee karan karaavanhaaray. ||1||
O’ God, the Cause of causes, uphold the honor of Your Name. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਤੇ ਕਰਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਇਸ) ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਖਸਮਾਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
parabh jee-o khasmaanaa kar pi-aaray.
O’ reverend God, You are our Master; Please fulfill Your masterly duty.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈਂ) ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲਾ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰ।
ਬੁਰੇ ਭਲੇ ਹਮ ਥਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
buray bhalay ham thaaray. rahaa-o.
Whether good or bad, we are still Yours. ||Pause||
(ਚਾਹੇ ਅਸੀ) ਭੈੜੇ ਹਾਂ (ਚਾਹੇ ਅਸੀ) ਚੰਗੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਹਾਂ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਸੁਣੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sunee pukaar samrath su-aamee banDhan kaat savaaray.
Those whose prayers were heard by the Almighty Master-God, cutting their bonds of Maya, He embellished them with virtues.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
ਪਹਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਪਾਉ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਨ ਮੇਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੨੯॥੯੩॥
pahir sirpaa-o sayvak jan maylay naanak pargat pahaaray. ||2||29||93||
O’ Nanak, honoring them, God united His devotees with Himself and made them known throughout the world. ||2||29||93||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ, ਤੇ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਘੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੨॥੨੯॥੯੩॥

Raag Sorath, Fifth Guru:
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਭਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
jee-a jant sabh vas kar deenay sayvak sabh darbaaray.
God honors His devotees in His presence and makes all other beings and creatures as their subservient.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਭਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
angeekaar kee-o parabh apunay bhav niDh paar utaaray. ||1||
God accepts them as His own, and ferries them across the terrifying worldly ocean of vices. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਗਲ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
santan kay kaaraj sagal savaaray.
God resolves all the affairs of His saints.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen da-i-aal kirpaal kirpaa niDh pooran khasam hamaaray. rahaa-o.
Our all-pervading Master-God is merciful to the meek, compassionate and is a treasure of kindness. ||Pause||
ਸਾਡਾ ਖਸਮ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਆਉ ਬੈਠੁ ਆਦਰੁ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਊਨ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
aa-o baith aadar sabh thaa-ee oon na katahooN baataa.
God’s devotees are honored everywhere, they are welcomed by all and they have no dearth of anything.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈਲੋਕ ਜੀ-ਆਇਆਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਥੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਸਿਰਪਾਉ ਦੀਓ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੨॥੩੦॥੯੪॥
bhagat sirpaa-o dee-o jan apunay partaap naanak parabh jaataa. ||2||30||94||
O’ Nanak, God blesses His devotees with honor of devotion and the Glory of God becomes manifest. ||2||30||94||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰੋਪਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਤੇਜ-ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩੦॥੯੪॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
ray man raam si-o kar pareet.
O’ my mind, imbue yourself with the love of all pervading God.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾ।
ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨੁ ਸੁਨਉ ਅਰੁ ਗਾਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਗੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarvan gobind gun sun-o ar gaa-o rasnaa geet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Listen to the praises of God with your ears, and with your tongue sing the songs of His praises. ||1||Pause||
ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, ਅਤੇ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਤਾਮਾ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਮਰੁ ਮਾਧੋ ਹੋਹਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
kar saaDhsangat simar maaDho hohi patit puneet.
Join the company of the Guru’s followers and remember God with adoration; by doing so, even the sinners become immaculate.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ। (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਭੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਆਲੁ ਜਿਉ ਪਰਿਓ ਡੋਲੈ ਮੁਖੁ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥
kaal bi-aal ji-o pari-o dolai mukh pasaaray meet. ||1||
O’ my friend, death is hovering over you like a serpent with its mouth open. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ!ਮੌਤ ਸੱਪ ਵਾਂਗ ਮੂੰਹ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਪਈ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਾਖਉ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
aaj kaal fun tohi garas hai samajh raakha-o cheet.
Understand and keep this thing in your mind that one of these days, the demon of death will seize you.
ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਝ ਰੱਖ ਕਿ (ਇਹ ਮੌਤ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਹੜੱਪ ਕਰ ਲਏਗੀ।
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਭਜਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਤੁ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਬੀਤ ॥੨॥੧॥
kahai naanak raam bhaj lai jaat a-osar beet. ||2||1||
Nanak says, O’ my friend, meditate on God’s Name, because this opportunity is passing you by. ||2||1||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੁਣ ਅਜੇ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਲੈ, ਇਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

Raag Sorath, Ninth Guru:
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਹੀ ॥
man kee man hee maahi rahee.
The mind’s desire remains unfulfilled in the mind of person.
ਮਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਅਪੂਰਨ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ।
ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇਵੇ ਚੋਟੀ ਕਾਲਿ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naa har bhajay na tirath sayvay chotee kaal gahee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He neither meditates on God, nor he serves the saintly people at the sacred shrines and death seizes him by the hair. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਹ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ , ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮੌਤਬੋਦੀ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਰਥ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਧਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਮਹੀ ॥
daaraa meet poot rath sampat Dhan pooran sabh mahee.
Spouse, friends, children, vehicles, possessions, wealth, and all lands,
ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਗੱਡੀਆਂ, ਮਾਲ-ਅਸਬਾਬ, ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ-
ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਏ ਜਾਨਉ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੋ ਸਹੀ ॥੧॥
avar sagal mithi-aa ay jaan-o bhajan raam ko sahee. ||1||
deem all these as false; the only right thing to do is to remember God. ||1||
ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਮਝੋ। ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਲਹੀ ॥
firat firat bahutay jug haari-o maanas dayh lahee.
You were exhausted wandering for ages in different incarnations; now you have been blessed with this human body.
ਕਈ ਜੁਗ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। (ਹੁਣ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥੨॥
naanak kahat milan kee baree-aa simrat kahaa nahee. ||2||2||
Nanak says, now this is your chance for union with God; why don’t you meditate on Him? ||2||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ? ॥੨॥੨॥

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਤੈ ਲੀਨੀ ॥
man ray ka-un kumat tai leenee.
O mind, what evil-mindedness have you developed?
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਲਈ ਹੈ?
ਪਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਰਸ ਰਚਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹਿ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
par daaraa nindi-aa ras rachi-o raam bhagat neh keenee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You are engrossed in pleasures with others’ woman and slandering others; you have not performed devotional worship of God? ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੂੰ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪੰਥੁ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਤੈ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਧਨ ਜੋਰਨ ਕਉ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
mukat panth jaani-o tai naahan Dhan joran ka-o Dhaa-i-aa.
You haven’t understood the path to freedom from vices, instead you have been running after amassing worldly wealth.
ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ (ਅਜੇ ਤਕ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ, ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
