ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
sabh jee-a tayray da-i-aalaa.
O’ my Merciful God, all beings have been created by You,
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਅਪਨੇ ਭਗਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
apnay bhagat karahi partipaalaa.
You cherish Your devotees.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਖਵਾਲੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਅਚਰਜੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
achraj tayree vadi-aa-ee.
O’ God, astonishing is Your grace.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੨॥੨੩॥੮੭॥
nit naanak naam Dhi-aa-ee. ||2||23||87||
O’ Nanak, always meditate on Naam with loving devotion. ||2||23||87||

Raag Sorath, Fifth Guru:
ਨਾਲਿ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਮੇਰੈ ॥
naal naraa-in mayrai.
All-pervading God is within me,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ।
ਜਮਦੂਤੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨੇਰੈ ॥
jamdoot na aavai nayrai.
and now even the fear of death doesn’t come close to me.
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਜਮਦੂਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁੱਕਦਾ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ)।
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
kanth laa-ay parabh raakhai.
God protects and keeps that person in His presence,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੈ ॥੧॥
satgur kee sach saakhai. ||1||
who has received the divine teachings from the true Guru. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ॥
gur poorai pooree keetee.
The devotee whom the perfect Guru blessed with spiritual success in his life,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸਫਲਤਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ,
ਦੁਸਮਨ ਮਾਰਿ ਵਿਡਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦੀਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dusman maar vidaaray saglay daas ka-o sumat deetee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God destroyed all his enemies (vices) and blessed him with the sublime intellect to remember Naam with adoration. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਏ; ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਅਕਲ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਥਾਨ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
parabh saglay thaan vasaa-ay.
Those whose sensory organs became totally virtuous by God’s grace,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ,
ਸੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਦਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਏ ॥
sukh saaNd fir aa-ay.
they turned away from the vices and always remained in a state of bliss.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਰਤ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਟਿਕੇ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਏ ॥
naanak parabh sarnaa-ay.
O’ Nanak, stay in the refuge of that God,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ,
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਾਏ ॥੨॥੨੪॥੮੮॥
jin saglay rog mitaa-ay. ||2||24||88||
who has destroyed all the afflictions of those who remained in His refuge. ||2||24||88||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੨॥੨੪॥੮੮॥

Raag Sorath, Fifth Guru:
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sarab sukhaa kaa daataa satgur taa kee sarnee paa-ee-ai.
The Guru is the bestower of all comforts; we should seek his refuge.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਹੋਤ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
darsan bhaytat hot anandaa dookh ga-i-aa har gaa-ee-ai. ||1||
By having a glimpse of the Guru, we enjoy bliss, our misery goes away and we sing God’s praises. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
har ras peevhu bhaa-ee.
O’ my brothers, partake the nectar of God’s Name;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੋ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam japahu naamo aaraaDhahu gur pooray kee sarnaa-ee. rahaa-o.
Enter the refuge of the perfect Guru and always remember Naam with love and devotion. ||Pause||
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੈਂ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
tiseh paraapat jis Dhur likhi-aa so-ee pooran bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, this gift of God’s Name is realized only by the one who is so preordained and that person becomes perfectly virtuous.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੨॥੨੫॥੮੯॥
naanak kee baynantee parabh jee naam rahaa liv laa-ee. ||2||25||89||
O’ reverend God: I may remain attuned to Naam, prays Nanak, ||2||25||89||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਹ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ-ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ ॥੨॥੨੫॥੮੯॥

ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
karan karaavan har antarjaamee jan apunay kee raakhai.
God is the Cause of causes ; He is omniscient and He protects the honor of His devotees.
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ (ਸਦਾ ਲਾਜ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਤੁ ਜਗ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥੧॥
jai jai kaar hot jag bheetar sabad guroo ras chaakhai. ||1||
The glory of that devotee resounds throughout the entire world who enshrines the Guru’s word in his heart and tastes nectar of Naam. ||1||
ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
parabh jee tayree ot gusaa-ee.
O’ Master of the universe, You are my only support.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਧਿਆਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
too samrath saran kaa daataa aath pahar tumH Dhi-aa-ee. rahaa-o.
You are omnipotent and provider of refuge to all; I always remember You with adoration. ||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਭਜਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jo jan bhajan karay parabh tayraa tisai andaysaa naahee.
O’ God, the devotee who sings Your praises, has nothing to worry.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਲਗੇ ਭਉ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
satgur charan lagay bha-o miti-aa har gun gaa-ay man maahee. ||2||
All his fear is dispelled by humbly following the Guru’s teachings, and in his mind he sings God’s praises. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ,ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰ ਡਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ॥
sookh sahj aanand ghanayray satgur dee-aa dilaasaa.
He, who is blessed with solace by the true Guru, receives immense peace, poise, and bliss.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇਹੌਸਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਣਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੇਤੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸਾ ॥੩॥
jin ghar aa-ay sobhaa saytee pooran ho-ee aasaa. ||3||
All his desires are fulfilled and he returns to his divine home (heart) after honorably winning the game of life. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ-ਖੇਡ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਕਾਮਾ ॥
pooraa gur pooree mat jaa kee pooran parabh kay kaamaa.
That Guru who is perfect and whose teachings are perfect, and who engages us in the task of remembering the perfect God:
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਈ ਉਕਾਈ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਆਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਾਗਿ ਤਰਿਓ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੨੬॥੯੦॥
gur charnee laag tari-o bhav saagar jap naanak har har naamaa. ||4||26||90||
O’ Nanak, by humbly following that Guru’s teachings, and by always meditating on God’s Name, I am swimming across the worldly ocean of vices. ||4||26||90||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ, ਤੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਮੈਂ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ (ਸਹੀ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੨੬॥੯੦॥

ਭਇਓ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਟੀ ॥
bha-i-o kirpaal deen dukh bhanjan aapay sabh biDh thaatee.
God, the destroyer of sorrows of the humble and meek, has always been kind to His devotee; He Himself devised all ways to protect His devotee.
ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਦਾ) ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਓਂਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਓ ਜਨੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਬੇੜੀ ਕਾਟੀ ॥੧॥
khin meh raakh lee-o jan apunaa gur poorai bayrhee kaatee. ||1||
God saved His devotee in an instant and the perfect Guru cut off the shackle of his sufferings. ||1||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ,ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਸਦ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
mayray man gur govind sad Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
O’ my mind, we should always contemplate on the Guru’s teachings and meditate on God, the Master of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal kalays miteh is tan tay man chindi-aa fal paa-ee-ai. rahaa-o.
By doing this, all the afflictions from our body are dispelled, and we achieve the fruit of our heart’s desire. ||Pause||
(ਇਸ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀ ਮੁਰਾਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
jee-a jant jaa kay sabh keenay parabh oochaa agam apaaraa.
God, who created all beings and creatures, is the highest of all, inaccessible and infinite.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਭਏ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੨੭॥੯੧॥
saaDhsang naanak naam Dhi-aa-i-aa mukh oojal bha-ay darbaaraa. ||2||27||91||
O’ Nanak, those who meditated on Naam in the holycongregation, received the honor in God’s presence. ||2||27||91||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੨॥੨੭॥੯੧॥
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Sorath, Fifth Guru:
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਾਂਈ ॥
simra-o apunaa saaN-ee.
I remember my Master-God with loving devotion,
ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ) ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਦ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
dinas rain sad Dhi-aa-ee.
whether day or night, I always meditate on God.
ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥
haath day-ay jin raakhay.
who extended his support and saved me from the sorrows and vices,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਹਾ ਰਸ ਚਾਖੇ ॥੧॥
har naam mahaa ras chaakhay. ||1||
and I tasted the sublime nectar of His Name. ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਰਸ ਚੱਖਿਆ ॥੧॥
