Raag Sorath, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਕੀਤੀ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
gur poorai keetee pooree.
The Perfect Guru has made me succeed in attaining the spiritual bliss.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੀ ॥
parabh rav rahi-aa bharpooree.
Now I see that God is totally pervading everywhere.
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਖੇਮ ਕੁਸਲ ਭਇਆ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥
khaym kusal bha-i-aa isnaanaa.
I feel blissful by taking a purifying bath in the pool holy congregation,
ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਕੇ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
paarbarahm vitahu kurbaanaa. ||1||
I am dedicated to the Supreme God who has united me with the Guru. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲ ਰਿਦ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
gur kay charan kaval rid Dhaaray.
One who enshrined the Guru’s teachings in the heart,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਵਰਗੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਏ,
ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਿਲ ਕਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਗਲ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bighan na laagai til kaa ko-ee kaaraj sagal savaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
not even the tiniest obstacle comes in his way and the Guru resolves all his affairs. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ। ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਏ ॥
mil saaDhoo durmat kho-ay.
One dispelles one’s evil-intellect by meeting the Guru and following his teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸਭ ਹੋਏ ॥
patit puneet sabh ho-ay.
and this way even all the sinners become immaculate.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਮਦਾਸਿ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਨਾਤੇ ॥
raamdaas sarovar naatay.
Those who take a spiritual bath in the Guru’s holy congregation,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਸਭ ਲਾਥੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਤੇ ॥੨॥
sabh laathay paap kamaatay. ||2||
all their sins, committed in the past, are washed off. ||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ (ਪਿਛਲੇ) ਕਮਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਪ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
gun gobind nit gaa-ee-ai.
We should always sing Praises of God, the master of the universe.
ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
saaDhsang mil Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
By joining the Guru’s company, we should remember God with adoration.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥
man baaNchhat fal paa-ay.gur pooraa ridai Dhi-aa-ay. ||3||
One who enshrines the teachings of the perfect Guru in his heart, receives the fruits of his mind’s desires. ||3||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੇ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਆਨੰਦਾ ॥
gur gopaal aanandaa.
God, the sustainer of the universe, is the embodiment of bliss;
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਨੰਦ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥
jap jap jeevai parmaanandaa.
The devotee rejuvenates his spiritual life by chanting and remembering God, the master of supreme bliss.
ਉਸ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
jan naanak naam Dhi-aa-i-aa.
O’ Nanak, the person who meditates on Naam,
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੬੦॥
parabh apnaa birad rakhaa-i-aa. ||4||10||60||
God blesses him according to His ageless tradition. ||4||10||60||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਪਾਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੬੦॥

Raag Sorath, Fifth Guru:
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਮੇਘ ਘਟਾ ਘਟ ਦਾਮਨਿ ਚਮਕਿ ਡਰਾਇਓ ॥
dah dis chhatar maygh ghataa ghat daaman chamak daraa-i-o.
When the clouds cover the entire sky like a canopy and the lightning through the dark clouds is terrifying.
ਜਦੋਂ ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਘਟਾਂ ਹੀ ਘਟਾਂ ਛਤਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ (ਪਸਰੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ), ਬਿਜਲੀ ਚਮਕ ਚਮਕ ਕੇ ਡਰਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸੇਜ ਇਕੇਲੀ ਨੀਦ ਨਹੁ ਨੈਨਹ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਰਦੇਸਿ ਸਿਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
sayj ikaylee need nahu nainah pir pardays siDhaa-i-o. ||1||
The woman whose husband has gone to another place; she is left all alone in her bed with sleepless eyes. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਹੁਣਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥
hun nahee sandaysaro maa-i-o.
O mother, now, I do not even receive any messages from my husband.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ (ਪਤੀ ਵਲੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਸਨੇਹਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
ਏਕ ਕੋਸਰੋ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਰਤ ਲਾਲੁ ਤਬ ਚਤੁਰ ਪਾਤਰੋ ਆਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ayk kosro siDh karat laal tab chatur paatro aa-i-o. rahaa-o.
Earlier when my Beloved used to go even a short distance away, I used to receive (four) letters from him. ||Pause||
ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਘਰੋਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਤੀ ਇਕ ਕੋਹ ਪੈਂਡਾ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਦੋਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ) ਚਾਰ ਚਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਇਹੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਓ ॥
ki-o bisrai ih laal pi-aaro sarab gunaa sukh-daa-i-o.
Then, how could I forget my beloved God who is the bestower of all virtues and comforts?
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਭੁੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੰਦਰਿ ਚਰਿ ਕੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ਨੈਨ ਨੀਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਓ ॥੨॥
mandar char kai panth nihaara-o nain neer bhar aa-i-o. ||2||
I gaze upon His path from the roof-top, my eyes are filled with tears of separation from Him. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਕੋਠੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਤੱਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਭੀਤਿ ਭਇਓ ਹੈ ਬੀਚੋ ਸੁਨਤ ਦੇਸਿ ਨਿਕਟਾਇਓ ॥
ha-o ha-o bheet bha-i-o hai beecho sunat days niktaa-i-o.
Even though I hear that He is close to my heart but seems like the wall of egotism separates us.
ਮੈਂ ਸੁਣਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿ ਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਖੜੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਭਾਂਭੀਰੀ ਕੇ ਪਾਤ ਪਰਦੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੇਖੇ ਦੂਰਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
bhaaNbheeree kay paat pardo bin paykhay dooraa-i-o. ||3||
There is a veil, thin like the wings of a butterfly, between us; I am not able to see Him, therefore He appears to be far away. ||3||
ਭੰਭੀਰੀ ਦੇ ਖੰਭ ਵਾਂਗ ਬਰੀਕ ਪਰਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਭਇਓ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਗਰੋ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥
bha-i-o kirpaal sarab ko thaakur sagro dookh mitaa-i-o.
The Master-God of all dispels the sufferings of that fortunate one, on whom He becomes merciful.
ਜਿਸ ਸੁਭਾਗਣ ਉਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਾ (ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਭੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਈ ਤਉ ਦਇਆਰੁ ਬੀਠਲੋ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੪॥
kaho naanak ha-umai bheet gur kho-ee ta-o da-i-aar beethlo paa-i-o. ||4||
Nanak says, when the Guru tore down the wall of egotism, then she found her merciful Husband-God within herself. ||4||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਢਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਦਇਆਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ) ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
ਸਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਅੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥
sabh rahi-o andaysro maa-i-o.
O’ mother, all my fears have been dispelled,
ਹੇ ਮਾਤਾ! ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ, ਹੁਣ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ॥
jo chaahat so guroo milaa-i-o.
because the Guru has united me with the one, whom I was seeking.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਤਾਂਘ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ l
ਸਰਬ ਗੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧੧॥੬੧॥
sarab gunaa niDh raa-i-o. rahaa-o doojaa. ||11||61||
God, the sovereign king is the treasure of all virtues. ||Second Pause||11||61||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧੧॥੬੧॥

ਗਈ ਬਹੋੜੁ ਬੰਦੀ ਛੋੜੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਦੁਖਦਾਰੀ ॥
ga-ee bahorh bandee chhorh nirankaar dukh-daaree.
O’ God,You are the restorer of our lost spiritual wealth, the liberator from captivity of vices, without any definite form and supporter in our sorrows.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਗਵਾਚੀ ਹੋਈ (ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਦਿਵਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਸਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਢਾਰਸ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ॥
karam na jaanaa Dharam na jaanaa lobhee maa-i-aaDhaaree.
I neither know about good deeds nor about righteous living; I am so greedy that I am always chasing after wealth.
ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰਮ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਭਗਤੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਇਹ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
naam pari-o bhagat govind kaa ih raakho paij tumaaree. ||1||
I am known as a devotee of God, so please save the honor of Your Name. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ’ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸੋ, ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਆਪ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਤੂ ਮਾਣੁ ॥
har jee-o nimaani-aa too maan.
O’ reverend God, You bestow honor to those who are honored by none.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਨਿਚੀਜਿਆ ਚੀਜ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nicheeji-aa cheej karay mayraa govind tayree kudrat ka-o kurbaan. rahaa-o.
My God, the Master of the universe, turns the unworthy ones into worthy; I am dedicated to Your almighty creative power. ||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਕਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਦਰ-ਜੋਗ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜੈਸਾ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਲਖ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
jaisaa baalak bhaa-ay subhaa-ee lakh apraaDh kamaavai.
Just as a child innocently makes thousands of mistakes,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਬੱਚਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਲਗਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਗ਼ਲਤੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਝਿੜਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
kar updays jhirhkay baho bhaatee bahurh pitaa gal laavai.
the father teaches him and scolds him in so many ways, but ultimately he embraces him.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਉ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਝਿੜਕਦਾ ਭੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਿਛਲੇ ਅਉਗੁਣ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਗੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
pichhlay a-ogun bakhas la-ay parabh aagai maarag paavai. ||2||
Similarly, God forgives the past misdeeds of people and steers them on right path for the future. ||2||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਤਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਠੀਕ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
har antarjaamee sabh biDh jaanai taa kis peh aakh sunaa-ee-ai.
God is the knower of our hearts, so forsaking Him, we cannot go anywhere else to tell the state of our mind.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਹਾਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਪਾਸ (ਆਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ) ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ?
ਕਹਣੈ ਕਥਨਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈਐ ॥
kahnai kathan na bheejai gobind har bhaavai paij rakhaa-ee-ai.
God, the Master of the universe, is not pleased by mere recitation of words; God preserves the honor of the one on whom He is pleased because of his deeds.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਰ ਓਟ ਮੈ ਸਗਲੀ ਦੇਖੀ ਇਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਰਹਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
avar ot mai saglee daykhee ik tayree ot rahaa-ee-ai. ||3||
O’ God, I have seen and tried the support of all others but now I am depending upon Your support alone. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
