ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ॥੩॥
ਬੋਲਾਇਆ ਬੋਲੀ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
bolaa-i-aa bolee tayraa.
O’ God, I sing Your praises only when You inspire me.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੇਰਾ ॥
too saahib gunee gahayraa.
O’ God, You are our Master, You are the treasure of virtues and generous.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੀ ॥
jap naanak naam sach saakhee.
O’ Nanak, meditate on God’s Name, which is witness to truth,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਇਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਾਮੀ ਭਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੬॥
apunay daas kee paij raakhee. ||4||6||56||
and saves the honor of His devotee. ||4||6||56||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੬॥

Raag Sorath, Fifth Guru:
ਵਿਚਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਖਲੋਆ ॥
vich kartaa purakh khalo-aa.
One whom the all pervading Creator Himself helps,
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਾਲੁ ਨ ਵਿੰਗਾ ਹੋਆ ॥
vaal na vingaa ho-aa.
not even the slightest harm comes to that person
( ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਮਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਂਦਾ ਰਾਸੇ ॥
majan gur aaNdaa raasay.
He, whose mind’s ablution in the holy congregation is rendered fruitful by the Guru,
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਆਤਮਕ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਫਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਨਾਸੇ ॥੧॥
jap har har kilvikh naasay. ||1||
he eradicates his sins by always meditating on God’s Name with adoration. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਸਰੋਵਰੁ ਨੀਕਾ ॥

O’ saints, the congregation of the devotees of God is sublime.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕੁਲੁ ਤਰਾਵੈ ਉਧਾਰੁ ਹੋਆ ਹੈ ਜੀ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo naavai so kul taraavai uDhaar ho-aa hai jee kaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Whosoever bathes in it, his own soul gets emancipated and he helps his entire lineage swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਕ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਲ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਜਗੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਅੜੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jai jai kaar jag gaavai. man chindi-arhay fal paavai.
One receives the fruits of one’s mind’s desire, and the entire world applauds that person,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨ-ਚਿਤਵੇ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਹੀ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਨਾਇ ਆਏ ॥ ਅਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੨॥
sahee salaamat naa-ay aa-ay. apnaa parabhoo Dhi-aa-ay. ||2||
Who saves his spiritual wealth by bathing in the pool of holy congregation and remembers His God with adoration. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਸੰਗ-ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਨਾਵੈ ॥ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
sant sarovar naavai. so jan param gat paavai.
That person, who bathes in the pool of holy congregation of Saints, achieves the supreme spiritual status.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਕ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
marai na aavai jaa-ee. har har naam Dhi-aa-ee. ||3||
That person, who always remembers God with loving devotion, does not go through the cycle of birth and death. ||3||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ॥੩॥
ਇਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਚਾਰੁ ਸੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
ih barahm bichaar so jaanai.
Only that person truly understands this divine wisdom,
ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਭਗਵਾਨੈ ॥
jis da-i-aal ho-ay bhagvaanai.
on whom God becomes merciful.
ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਬਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
baabaa naanak parabh sarnaa-ee.
O’ Nanak says, the one who remains in God’s refuge,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਗਣਤ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥੪॥੭॥੫੭॥
sabh chintaa ganat mitaa-ee. ||4||7||57||
erases all his worries and anxieties. ||4||7||57||
ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥੫੭॥

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਨਿਬਾਹੀ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
paarbarahm nibaahee pooree.
The supreme God has stood by His devotee to the end,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤੋੜ ਤਕ ਨਿਬਾਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਈ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਰਹੀਆ ਊਰੀ ॥
kaa-ee baat na rahee-aa ooree.
and he did not have a shortage of anything.
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਕਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ
ਗੁਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਲਾਇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥
gur charan laa-ay nistaaray.
By attuning to the divine word, the Guru ferried the devotees across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ) ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲਾ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
har har naam samHaaray. ||1||
The devotee always enshrines God’s Name in his heart. ||1||
ਸੇਵਕ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ॥੧॥
ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਸਦਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
apnay daas kaa sadaa rakhvaalaa.
God is always the savior of His devotee.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirpaa apunay kar raakhay maat pitaa ji-o paalaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By bestowing mercy on the devotees and considering them as His own, God saves them, just as parents nourish their children. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਪੇ (ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
vadbhaagee satgur paa-i-aa.
The fortunate persons have met the true Guru,
ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ (ਉਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ,
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥
jin jam kaa panth mitaa-i-aa.
who has obliterated the path of the demon of death and has saved them from the cycle of birth and death.
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਮ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
har bhagat bhaa-ay chit laagaa.
Those whose mind is attuned to the loving devotion of God,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ॥੨॥
jap jeeveh say vadbhaagaa. ||2||
are very fortunate since they spiritually stay alive by remembering God. ||2||
ਉਹ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
har amrit banee gaavai.
A true devotee of God keeps singing the ambrosial divine hymns,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਿਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰੀ ਨਾਵੈ ॥
saaDhaa kee Dhooree naavai.
and so humbly serves the saints, as if he is bathing in the dust of their feet.
ਸੇਵਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੀਆ ॥
apunaa naam aapay dee-aa.
God Himself has blessed His Name to the devotee,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਆ ॥੩॥
parabh karanhaar rakh lee-aa. ||3||
and thus God, the Creator liberated him from vices. ||3||
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
har darsan paraan aDhaaraa.
The blessed Glimpse of God is the main support of a devotee’s life,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੀ (ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਮਲ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
ih pooran bimal beechaaraa.
and this is his perfect and immaculate thought.
( ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
kar kirpaa antarjaamee.
O’ Omniscient God, Please bestow mercy on me:
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ:
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੪॥੮॥੫੮॥
daas naanak saran su-aamee. ||4||8||58||
O’ my Maste-God, Your devotee Nanak has come to Your refuge. ||4||8||58||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੮॥੫੮॥

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
gur poorai charnee laa-i-aa.
He whom the perfect Guru has attuned to God’s Name,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
har sang sahaa-ee paa-i-aa.
has realized that God always dwells with him as his companion.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, (ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ) ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਜਹ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਹਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥
jah jaa-ee-ai tahaa suhaylay.
If we remain united with God, then wherever we go, we can remain peaceful. ||1||
(ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਈਏ, ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲੇ ॥੧॥
kar kirpaa parabh maylay. ||1||
but those who have been united with God is only because God Himself has done so by showing mercy on them. ||1||
ਪਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
har gun gaavhu sadaa subhaa-ee.
O’ my friends, always sing praises of God with love and devotion;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ।
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man chinday saglay fal paavhu jee-a kai sang sahaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
you would obtain the fruits of your heart’s desire, and God would become the Savior of your soul. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੇ ਫਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋਗੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਸਾਥੀ (ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
naaraa-in paraan aDhaaraa.
God is the Support of my life.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
ਹਮ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਰੇਨਾਰਾ ॥
ham sant janaaN raynaaraa.
I humbly remain in the service of the saints, as if I am the dust of their feet.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨੇ ॥
patit puneet kar leenay.
The Holy people purify even the sinners and embellishe their lives,
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਨੇ ॥੨॥
kar kirpaa har jas deenay. ||2||
when bestowing mercy, they bless them with the gift of God’s praises. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
paarbarahm karay partipaalaa.
The supreme God always sustains the devotees,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਦ ਜੀਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
sad jee-a sang rakhvaalaa.
and always remain with them as the protector of their soul.
ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
har din rain keertan gaa-ee-ai.
Therefore, we should always sing praises of God,
(ਤਾਂ ਤੇ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
bahurh na jonee paa-ee-ai. ||3||
by doing so we do not go through the cycle of birth and death. ||3||
(ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jis dayvai purakh biDhaataa.
One whom the all pervading God blesses this gift of singing God’s praises,
(ਪਰ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
har ras tin hee jaataa.
realizes the subtle essence of God’s Name.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਦਰ ਜਾਣੀ ਹੈ)।
ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
jamkankar nayrh na aa-i-aa.
Even the demon of death doesn’t come close to him.
ਜਮ-ਦੂਤ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ।
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੯॥੫੯॥
sukh naanak sarnee paa-i-aa. ||4||9||59||
O’ Nanak, he enjoys spiritual peace in God’s refuge. ||4||9||59||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੫੯॥
