ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
bin gur pareet na oopjai bhaa-ee manmukh doojai bhaa-ay.
O’ brother, love for God does not well up without the Guru’s teachings, but self-willed person remains engrossed in the love of duality.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਪਰ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ , ।
ਤੁਹ ਕੁਟਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਭਾਈ ਪਲੈ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
tuh kuteh manmukh karam karahi bhaa-ee palai kichhoo na paa-ay. ||2||
O’ brother, the ritualistic deeds performed by the self-willed persons prove useless, as if they are thrashing chaff which doesn’t yield anything. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜੋ ਭੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਾਨੋ ਤੁਹ ਹੀ ਕੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
gur mili-ai naam man ravi-aa bhaa-ee saachee pareet pi-aar.
O’ brother, on meeting and following the Guru’s teachings, Naam prevails in the mind, and one gets imbued with the love and affection for the eternal God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
sadaa har kay gun ravai bhaa-ee gur kai hayt apaar. ||3||
O’ brother, through the Guru’s infinite love, one always keeps singing the praises of God. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਤੁੱਟ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
aa-i-aa so parvaan hai bhaa-ee je gur sayvaa chit laa-ay.
O’ brother, approved becomes the advent of that person in the world who focuses his mind on following the teachings of the Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak naam har paa-ee-ai bhaa-ee gur sabdee maylaa-ay. ||4||8||
O’ Nanak, God’s Name is received through the Guru, and through his word Guru unites one with God. ||4||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੮॥

ਤਿਹੀ ਗੁਣੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥
tihee gunee taribhavan vi-aapi-aa bhaa-ee gurmukh boojh bujhaa-ay.
O’ my brothers, the entire worlds are engrossed in the three modes of Maya (vice, virtue and power); the Guru makes a person understand this thing.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗਿ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
raam naam lag chhootee-ai bhaa-ee poochhahu gi-aanee-aa jaa-ay. ||1||
O’ brother,we can be liberated from these modes of Maya by attuning to God’s Name; go and ask the divinely wise persons about this. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਬੇਤਿਆਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਪੁੱਛ ਲੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਉਥੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
man ray tarai gun chhod cha-uthai chit laa-ay.
O’ my mind, renounce these three modes of Maya and attune yourself to the fourth state where mind remains unaffected by these.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਿਥੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jee-o tayrai man vasai bhaa-ee sadaa har kay gun gaa-ay. rahaa-o.
O’ brother, always sing the glorious praises of the reverend God who resides in your mind. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਨਾਮੈ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਊਪਜੇ ਭਾਈ ਨਾਇ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
naamai tay sabh oopjay bhaa-ee naa-ay visri-ai mar jaa-ay.
O’ brother, people spiritually remain alive by attuning to Naam and upon forsaking Naam, they spiritually die.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਸੂਤੇ ਗਏ ਮੁਹਾਇ ॥੨॥
agi-aanee jagat anDh hai bhaa-ee sootay ga-ay muhaa-ay. ||2||
O’ brother, the ignorant world is blind in the love of Maya; being unaware, they are departing from here after getting robbed of their spiritual wealth. ||2||
ਬੇਸਮਝ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਲੁਟਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh jaagay say ubray bhaa-ee bhavjal paar utaar.
O’ brother, those who follow the Guru’s teachings and wake up from the slumber of Maya, are saved and the Guru ferries them across the world-ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
jag meh laahaa har naam hai bhaa-ee hirdai rakhi-aa ur Dhaar. ||3||
O’ brother, the real profit of coming into this world is to meditate on the Name of God, the Guru’s follower Keeps it enshrined within his heart. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਭ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
gur saranaa-ee ubray bhaa-ee raam naam liv laa-ay.
O’ brother, those who come to the Guru’s refuge and lovingly attune to Naam, are saved from drowning in the world-ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਉ ਬੇੜਾ ਨਾਉ ਤੁਲਹੜਾ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਗਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਜਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak naa-o bayrhaa naa-o tulharhaa bhaa-ee jit lag paar jan paa-ay. ||4||9||
O’ Nanak, Naam is like a ship and a raft, riding which devotees swim across the worldly-ocean of vices. ||4||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਜਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
satgur sukh saagar jag antar hor thai sukh naahee.
In this world, only the true Guru is like an ocean of peace, and peace cannot be received anywhere else.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਦੁਖਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਰੋਵੈ ਧਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
ha-umai jagat dukh rog vi-aapi-aa mar janmai rovai Dhaahee. ||1||
The world is afflicted with the painful disease of egotism; it keeps dying to be reborn, it cries out in pain. ||1||
ਜਗਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਦੁੱਖਦਾਈ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਧਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
paraanee satgur sayv sukh paa-ay.
O’ mortal, follow the Guru’s teachings and receive spiritual peace.
ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur sayveh taa sukh paavahi naahi ta jaahigaa janam gavaa-ay. rahaa-o.
If you follow the true Guru’s teachings, you would receive peace; otherwise, you would depart from here after wasting away your invaluable life in vain. ||Pause||
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏਂਗਾ। ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰ ਕੇ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਚਲਾ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਧਾਤੁ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
tarai gun Dhaat baho karam kamaaveh har ras saad na aa-i-aa.
People perform many rituals under the influence of three modes of Maya but they do not enjoy the relish of God’s Name.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
ਸੰਧਿਆ ਤਰਪਣੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
sanDhi-aa tarpan karahi gaa-itaree bin boojhay dukh paa-i-aa. ||2||
They perform the three daily prayers, make offerings of water to their ancestors and gods and recite Gayatri-mantra, still they suffer without spiritual wisdom. |2|
ਤਿੰਨੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੰਧਿਆ-ਪਾਠ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਿਤਰਾਂ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਲ ਅਰਪਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
satgur sayvay so vadbhaagee jis no aap milaa-ay.
Fortunate is that person who follows the Guru’s teachings; but the Guru meets only the one whom God Himself unites with the Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮਿਲਾਏ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੩॥
har ras pee jan sadaa tariptaasay vichahu aap gavaa-ay. ||3||
By eradicating their ego and drinking the nectar of God’s Name, the devotees always remain satiated. ||3||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
ih jag anDhaa sabh anDh kamaavai bin gur mag na paa-ay.
This world is so ignorant as if it is all blind and does deeds of ignorance, it does not realize that righteous way cannot be obtained without the Guru’s teachings.
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ) ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਅਖੀ ਵੇਖੈ ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
naanak satgur milai ta akhee vaykhai gharai andar sach paa-ay. ||4||10||
O’ Nanak, when one meets the Guru and follows his teachings, then one sees God with spiritually enlightened eyes and realizes Him in his heart. ||4||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ( ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥

Raag Sorath, Third Guru:
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥
bin satgur sayvay bahutaa dukh laagaa jug chaaray bharmaa-ee.
Without following the true Guru’s teachings, one suffers immensely and always keeps wandering
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਤੁਮ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਦਾਤੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥
ham deen tum jug jug daatay sabday deh bujhaa-ee. ||1||
O’ God, we are helpless and meek and You have been the benefactor age after age; through the Guru’s word bless us with the righteous way to live.||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ (ਜੀਵ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
har jee-o kirpaa karahu tum pi-aaray.
O’ reverend God, please bestow mercy on me,
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਆਧਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur daataa mayl milaavhu har naam dayvhu aaDhaaray. rahaa-o.
and unite me to meet the Guru, the bestower of Naam, and through him bless me with Naam, the support of my life. ||Pause||
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ, ਅਤੇ (ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਹ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
mansaa maar dubiDhaa sahj samaanee paa-i-aa naam apaaraa.
One who realizes the Name of the infinite God, eradicates his worldly desires, his double mindedness changes into a state of spiritual equipoise
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ,ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਡਾਂਵਾਂ-ਡੋਲ ਹਾਲਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
har ras chaakh man nirmal ho-aa kilbikh kaatanhaaraa. ||2||
Because God’s Name is the destroyer of sins, therefore by tasting the relish of God’s Name, such a person’s mind becomes immaculate. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
