ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੫॥
taribhavan so parabh jaanee-ai saacho saachai naa-ay. ||5||
O’ Soul-bride, by meditating on the true Name of God, it is realized that He is pervading in all the three worlds.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ! ਜੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਖਰੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
saa Dhan kharee suhaavanee jin pir jaataa sang.
That soul-bride who feels the presence of God within is truly beautiful and praiseworthy.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
mahlee mahal bulaa-ee-ai so pir raavay rang.
The soul-bride is invited to merge with God, and her God ravishes her with love.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਚਿ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਸਾ ਭਲੀ ਪਿਰਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੬॥
sach suhaagan saa bhalee pir mohee gun sang. ||6||
She is so enticed by God’s virtues that she becomes imbued in God’s love and becomes truly fortunate and praiseworthy.
ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੁਹਾਗ ਭਾਗ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਭੂਲੀ ਭੂਲੀ ਥਲਿ ਚੜਾ ਥਲਿ ਚੜਿ ਡੂਗਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
bhoolee bhoolee thal charhaa thal charh doogar jaa-o.
If I forsake the righteous path and wander again and again on earth and mountains.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਰਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਹਾੜ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ ਜਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਂ,
ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਭੂਲੀ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਉ ॥
ban meh bhoolee jay firaa bin gur boojh na paa-o..
If I wander around lost in the forest (world), without the Guru (a true guide), I will never be able to find my destination.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੀ ਫਿਰਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ l
ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੂਲੀ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਉ ਜਾਉ ॥੭॥
naavhu bhoolee jay firaa fir fir aava-o jaa-o. ||7||
Similarly, if I wander around forsaking God’s Name, I shall continue in the cycle of birth and death.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੀ ਹੋਈ (ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਫਿਰਦੀ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਸਹੇੜ ਲਵਾਂਗੀ
ਪੁਛਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਪਧਾਊਆ ਚਲੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਹੋਇ ॥
puchhahu jaa-ay paDhaa-oo-aa chalay chaakar ho-ay.
(O my friend, If you want to find the righteous path), go and ask those Guru’s followers who have traveled and lived like the servants of God.
ਜੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਣਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ) ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਤਮ-ਰਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛ ਜੇਹੜੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ) ਤੁਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਰਾਜਨੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
raajan jaaneh aapnaa dar ghar thaak na ho-ay.
They consider the Master of the Universe as their own, and they face no obstruction in their way to His court.
ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਹਿਲ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੬॥
naanak ayko rav rahi-aa doojaa avar na ko-ay. ||8||6||
O Nanak, the One is pervading everywhere; there is no other at all.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਤੇ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥
gur tay nirmal jaanee-ai nirmal dayh sareer.
Through the Guru, we realize the immaculate God, and our body and soul become pure (from the vices).
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਢਾਂਚਾ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਭ ਪੀਰ ॥
nirmal saacho man vasai so jaanai abh peer.
The immaculate God, who knows the pain of separation comes to dwell in our heart.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਪਰਗਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਹਜੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਅਗਲੋ ਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਮ ਤੀਰੁ ॥੧॥
sahjai tay sukh aglo naa laagai jam teer. ||1||
With intuitive ease, a great peace is found, and fear of death does not hurt us.
ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ-ਗਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮ-ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਉਤਪਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray mail naahee nirmal jal naa-ay.
O’ Brother, the filth of vices is washed away by bathing in pure water of Naam.
ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਉੱਤੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nirmal saachaa ayk too hor mail bharee sabh jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, you alone are Perfectly Pure, all other places are filled with filth of vices.
ਕੇਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੈਲ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਿ ॥
har kaa mandar sohnaa kee-aa karnaihaar.
Human body is a beautiful temple of God created by the creator Himself.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਮਹਲ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੀਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
rav sas deep anoop jot taribhavan jot apaar.
The sun and the moon are lamps of incomparably beautiful light. Throughout the three worlds, the Infinite Light is pervading.
ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਹੈ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੋਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਮਕ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਤ ਚਾਨਣ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਹਾਨਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਾਟ ਪਟਣ ਗੜ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰ ॥੨॥
haat patan garh koth-rhee sach sa-udaa vaapaar. ||2||
He has created the human bodies like shops, cities, forts and houses to conduct the true business (to trade in the Name of God).
ਦੇਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੁਕਾਨਾਂ, ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ-ਸੂਤ ਹੈ।
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਦੇਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਭਾਇ ॥
gi-aan anjan bhai bhanjnaa daykh niranjan bhaa-ay.
Try to see (realize) God, the destroyer of fear, by applying the ointment of divine wisdom and love for the immaculate God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਵਰਤ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਸਭ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਇ ॥
gupat pargat sabh jaanee-ai jay man raakhai thaa-ay.
If the mind is kept centered and balanced, then we can realize God in all His visible and invisible forms.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਰੱਖੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਅਣ-ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
aisaa satgur jay milai taa sehjay la-ay milaa-ay. ||3||
If one meets such a True Guru, he unites us with God with intuitive ease.
ਜੇਕਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਦ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਸਿ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਈਐ ਪਰਖੇ ਹਿਤੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
kas kasvatee laa-ee-ai parkhay hit chit laa-ay.
He tests our spiritual life on the touchstone (of purity) and examines us with love and full attention.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਸਵੱਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਬੜੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਖੋਟੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਖਰੇ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
khotay tha-ur na paa-inee kharay khajaanai paa-ay.
Then like the coins, the counterfeit (impure hearted humans) do not find any place, while the true ones are put into the treasury (united with God).
ਖੋਟਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਖਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਸ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਇਉ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥
aas andaysaa door kar i-o mal jaa-ay samaa-ay. ||4||
Let your hopes and anxieties depart; thus the dirt of your mind will be washed away and you will merge in God.
ਆਸਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਹਮ ਕੱਢ, ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ, (ਤੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ
ਸੁਖ ਕਉ ਮਾਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਮਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
sukh ka-o maagai sabh ko dukh na maagai ko-ay.
Everyone begs for happiness; no one asks for suffering.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ;
ਸੁਖੈ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
sukhai ka-o dukh aglaa manmukh boojh na ho-ay.
The self-willed manmukh does not know that worldly happiness now may bring immense suffering later.
ਰਸਾਂ-ਸੁਆਦਾ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਅਤਿਅੰਤ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ (ਭੇਤ) ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ।
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
sukh dukh sam kar jaanee-ahi sabad bhayd sukh ho-ay. ||5||
Those who mold their mind according to the Guru’s word to find inner peace, for them the the pain and pleasure are one and the same.
ਜੋ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਰੱਬੀ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ਵਾਚੀਐ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਆਸੁ ॥
bayd pukaaray vaachee-ai banee barahm bi-aas.
The Vedas proclaim, and the words of Vyasa tell us, strivers
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਸ ਦਿਆਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾ (ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ) ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਕਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਾਧਿਕਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥
mun jan sayvak saaDhikaa naam ratay guntaas.
that the silent sages, the devotees, and strivers are imbued with God’s Name, the Treasure of virtues.
ਅਸਲੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਲੋਕ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਜਿਣਿ ਗਏ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਸੁ ॥੬॥
sach ratay say jin ga-ay ha-o sad balihaarai jaas. ||6||
Those who are attuned to the True Name win the game of life; I forever dedicate myself to them.
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵਨ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ l
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
chahu jug mailay mal bharay jin mukh naam na ho-ay.
Their minds are forever full with the filth of vices, who do not recite Naam.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
bhagtee bhaa-ay vihooni-aa muhu kaalaa pat kho-ay.
Without loving devotion to God, they are disgraced, and their honor is lost.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਸਿਆਹ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਅਵਗਣ ਮੁਠੀ ਰੋਇ ॥੭॥
jinee naam visaari-aa avgan muthee ro-ay. ||7||
Those who have forgotten the Naam are plundered by evil; they weep and wail in dismay.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਾਪ ਦੇ ਠੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ, ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਪਾਇਆ ਡਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
khojat khojat paa-i-aa dar kar milai milaa-ay.
By seeking and searching, I have found this fact that by having revered fear for God, we meet Him through the Guru.
ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਡਰ-ਅਬਦ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
aap pachhaanai ghar vasai ha-umai tarisnaa jaa-ay.
The one who realizes one’s own self, his mind stops wandering and abides within, and all one’s ego and (worldly) desire goes away.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਬਾਹਰ ਭਟਕਣੋਂ ਹਟ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਹੀ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਊਜਲੇ ਜੋ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੮॥੭॥
naanak nirmal oojlay jo raatay har naa-ay. ||8||7||
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Name of God are immaculate and radiant.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
sun man bhoolay baavray gur kee charnee laag.
Listen, O’ foolish and misguided mind: humbly surrender to the Guru.
ਹੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ-ਪਏ ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ) ਸੁਣ (ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਉ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਜਮੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਦੁਖ ਭਾਗੁ ॥
har jap naam Dhi-aa-ay too jam darpai dukh bhaag.
Recite and meditate on God’s Name, the demon of death will be afraid of you and your sorrow shall depart.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, (ਇੰਜ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਭੀ ਭੈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਗ ਦੌੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਿਉ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ॥੧॥
dookh ghano duhaaganee ki-o thir rahai suhaag. ||1||
The unfortunate soul-bride suffers immense pain. How can her Spouse remain for ever with her? How can she be united with God?.
ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੀ, ਉਸ) ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਖਸਮ-ਸਾਈਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
