ਕਰਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਨਾਸੁ ਮਨਾ ॥
kar majan har saray sabh kilbikh naas manaa.
O’ my mind, immerse in the holy congregation and sing God’s praises, as if you are bathing in the pool of God’s Name, and all your sins would be eradicated.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਤਾਲਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਕਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਜਨੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਜਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਨਾਸੇ ॥
kar sadaa majan gobind sajan dukh anDhayraa naasay.
Yes, keep singing praises of God in the holy congregation; one who does this, God, the friend, eradicates his sorrows and the darkness of ignorance.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਸਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਕਟੈ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਫਾਸੇ ॥
janam maran na ho-ay tis ka-o katai jam kay faasay.
He does not go through the cycle of birth and death; God cuts off his worldly bonds, which are like nooses of the demon, the causes of spiritual death.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗੇ ਤਹਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸੋ ॥
mil saaDhsangay naam rangay tahaa pooran aaso.
O’ my mind, join the holy congregation and be imbued with Naam; there all your wishes would be fulfilled.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ, ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਕਰ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਨਿਵਾਸੋ ॥੧॥
binvant naanak Dhaar kirpaa har charan kamal nivaaso. ||1||
Nanak humbly submits: O’ God, show mercy and bless me, that my mind may always remain attuned to Your immaculate Name. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥
ਤਹ ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਸਦਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਝੁਣਕਾਰੋ ਰਾਮ ॥
tah anad binod sadaa anhad jhunkaaro raam.
The continuous divine melody producing joy and bliss always resounds in the holy congregation.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਰੌ ਚਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੋ ਰਾਮ ॥
mil gaavahi sant janaa parabh kaa jaikaaro raam.
Joining together, the saintly persons keep singing glories of God.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਤ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਖਸਮ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਰੰਗਿ ਭਿੰਨੀਆ ॥
mil sant gaavahi khasam bhaaveh har paraym ras rang bhinnee-aa.
Meeting together, the saints sing praises of the Master-God, they are pleasing to God; their conscience remains drenched with the sublime essence of His love.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖ਼ਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰਸ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਲਾਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਮਿਲੇ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥
har laabh paa-i-aa aap mitaa-i-aa milay chiree vichhunni-aa.
By eradicating their self-conceit, they receive the reward of meditating on God’s Name and unite with Him from whom they were separated for so long.
ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥
geh bhujaa leenay da-i-aa keenHay parabh ayk agam apaaro.
The incomprehensible and infinite God bestows mercy, extends His support and makes them His own.
ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣਕਾਰੋ ॥੨॥
binvant naanak sadaa nirmal sach sabad run jhunkaaro. ||2||
Nanak submits, the life of those saints of God becomes immaculate forever and the melody of divine words of God’s praises keeps vibrating within them. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਰੌ ਚਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
sun vadbhaagee-aa har amrit banee raam.
O’ the fortunate one, always listen to the ambrosial words of God’s praises.
ਹੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
jin ka-o karam likhee tis ridai samaanee raam.
It is enshrined only in the hearts of those fortunate persons, in whose destiny it is so pre-ordained by His grace.
ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਸ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਤਿਨੀ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ॥
akath kahaanee tinee jaanee jis aap parabh kirpaa karay.
Only those persons realize and embrace this indescribable divine words of God’s praises on whom He Himself bestows mercy.
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਮਰੁ ਥੀਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਮੂਆ ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸਾ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੇ ॥
amar thee-aa fir na moo-aa kal kalaysaa dukh haray.
He becomes immortal, doesn’t die a spiritual death again and eradicates all his inner strife and sorrows.
ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਤੇ ਇੰਜ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਝਗੜੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਾਈ ਤਜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
har saran paa-ee taj na jaa-ee parabh pareet man tan bhaanee.
Having received the refuge of God, such a person never forsakes it, and the love of God becomes dear to that person’s mind and heart.
ਇੰਜ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਈਐ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
binvant naanak sadaa gaa-ee-ai pavitar amrit banee. ||3||
Nanak submits, we should always sing the sacred ambrosial divine words of God’s praises.||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਗਲਤੁ ਭਏ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
man tan galat bha-ay kichh kahan na jaa-ee raam.
The mind and heart become so elated in the love of God that nothing can be said about it.
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿਅੜਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਲੀਆ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
jis tay upji-arhaa tin lee-aa samaa-ee raam.
From whom he was created, that God has absorbed him in Himself.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜੋਤੀ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤੀ ਉਦਕੁ ਉਦਕਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
mil barahm jotee ot potee udak udak samaa-i-aa.
Through and through, he merges into the Divine Light, like water merges into water.
ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਇੰਜ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਏਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਹ ਦੂਜਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
jal thal mahee-al ayk ravi-aa nah doojaa daristaa-i-aa.
Then he beholds one God pervading the water, the land, and the sky and none other than God is visible to him.
ਫਿਰ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ, ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਬਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
ban tarin taribhavan poor pooran keemat kahan na jaa-ee.
To him, God seems to be pervading the forests and every blade of grass and the three worlds; the worth of such a person’s spiritual status cannot be described.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ, ਘਾਹ (ਦੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਤੀਲੇ) ਵਿਚ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਐਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥
binvant naanak aap jaanai jin ayh banat banaa-ee. ||4||2||5||
Nanak submits, He who created this creation, understands it. ||4||2||5||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਖੇਡ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥

ਖੋਜਤ ਸੰਤ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
khojat sant fireh parabh paraan aDhaaray raam.
The saints of God go around searching for God, the support of their life.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਭਾਲਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਾਣੁ ਤਨੁ ਖੀਨ ਭਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
taan tan kheen bha-i-aa bin milat pi-aaray raam.
Without realizing the beloved God, they lose strength and their body becomes very frail.
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਲਿੱਸਾ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਬਲ ਘਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਇਆ ਧਾਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ਲੀਜੀਐ ॥
parabh milhu pi-aaray ma-i-aa Dhaaray kar da-i-aa larh laa-ay leejee-ai.
O’ my dear God, bestow mercy and let me realize You; be kind and keep me in Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ, ਦਇਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੜ ਲਾ ਲੈ।
ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਜਪਉ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸ ਪੇਖੇ ਜੀਜੀਐ ॥
deh naam apnaa japa-o su-aamee har daras paykhay jeejee-ai.
O’ my Master-God, bless me with Your Name, which I may keep meditating on; I spiritually remain alive by beholding Your blessed vision.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਮਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਊਚ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
samrath pooran sadaa nihchal ooch agam apaaray.
O’ God, You are all-powerful, all pervading, eternal, highest of the high, incomprehensible and infinite.
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ!
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ, ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆ ਮਿਲ! ॥੧॥
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਬਰਤ ਕੀਨੇ ਪੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਚਰਣਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
jap tap barat keenay paykhan ka-o charnaa raam.
To behold the blessed vision of God, I have practiced chanting, intensive meditation and fasting,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਪ ਕੀਤੇ, ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਤਪਾਈਆਂ, ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖੇ;
ਤਪਤਿ ਨ ਕਤਹਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਰਣਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
tapat na kateh bujhai bin su-aamee sarnaa raam.
but without the refuge of the Master-God, the suffering of the mind never ends.
ਪਰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁੱਝਦੀ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਾਟਿ ਬੇਰੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਾਰੀਐ ॥
parabh saran tayree kaat bayree sansaar saagar taaree-ai.
O’ God, I have come to Your refuge, cut off my bonds of the love of Maya and ferry me across the world-ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਕੱਟ ਦੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ।
ਅਨਾਥ ਨਿਰਗੁਨਿ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਣੁ ਅਉਗਣੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਐ ॥
anaath nirgun kachh na jaanaa mayraa gun a-ugan na beechaaree-ai.
O’ God, I am helpless, without any virtues and I know nothing; please do not take into account any of my virtues and faults.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਢੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਨਾ ਕਰ!
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣਾ ॥
deen da-i-aal gopaal pareetam samrath kaaran karnaa.
O’ beloved, merciful to the meek, master of the universe; You are all-powerful doer and cause of everything.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਖੇ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ!
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਹਰਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਮਾਗੈ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣਾ ॥੨॥
naanak chaatrik har boond maagai jap jeevaa har har charnaa. ||2||
O’ Nanak, just as a pied cuckoo begs for a drop of rain, I ask for God’s Name, meditating on which I keep alive spiritually. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ (ਵਰਖਾ ਦੀ) ਬੂੰਦ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਪ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
