ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਵਣਿ ਆਈਆ ਸੂਹਾ ਵੇਸੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
ganat ganaavan aa-ee-aa soohaa vays vikaar.
All of them have come to be counted as his true beloveds but their holy looking red robes are useless.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ-ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਲਾਲ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ (ਭੀ) ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਹੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਖੋਟਾ ਪਾਜੁ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
pakhand paraym na paa-ee-ai khotaa paaj khu-aar. ||1||
They cannot win the love of God by hypocrisy and false show ultimately ruins them.
ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਇਹ ਖੋਟਾ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਇਉ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
har jee-o i-o pir raavai naar.
“O’ God, a (person) soul- bride can enjoy Your company only if that person is able to please You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਇਹ ਸਰਧਾ ਧਾਰਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੈਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tuDh bhaavan sohaaganee apnee kirpaa laihi savaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
But only those fortunate ones can please You whom You bless by Your Grace.
ਉਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਸੁਚੱਜੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੀਆ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
gur sabdee seegaaree-aa tan man pir kai paas.
The true bride is bedecked with the ornaments of the Guru’s word; her body and mind is dedicated to the service of her Spouse(God).
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਵਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਹੈ l
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਖੜੀ ਤਕੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
du-ay kar jorh kharhee takai sach kahai ardaas.
With folded hands in utter humility, she awaits God’s command and offer true prayers.
ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਵੇ ਹੱਥ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਖਲੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਿਲੋ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਵਖਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।.
ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤੀ ਸਚ ਭੈ ਵਸੀ ਭਾਇ ਰਤੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
laal ratee sach bhai vasee bhaa-ay ratee rang raas. ||2||
The true bride is the one who remains totally immersed in the love of God and always remains absorbed in the truth and revered fear of God.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ (ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਕੀ ਚੇਰੀ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ਲਾਲੀ ਮਾਨੈ ਨਾਉ ॥
pari-a kee chayree kaaNdhee-ai laalee maanai naa-o.
The devotee who is devoted to God’s name is known as His hand-maid.
ਜੇਹੜੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੰਨਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥
saachee pareet na tut-ee saachay mayl milaa-o.
Her true love never ends; because of her true love, she always remains united with the eternal (Spouse).
ਸੱਚੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਟੁਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਵੇਧਿਆ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੩॥
sabad ratee man vayDhi-aa ha-o sad balihaarai jaa-o. ||3||
I dedicate myself to that soul-bride whose mind is always imbued in the love of God through the Guru’s Word.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਰੰਡ ਨ ਬੈਸਈ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
saa Dhan rand na bais-ee jay satgur maahi samaa-ay.
That soul-bride,who fully merges in the true Guru (faithfully follows the Guru’s teachings), is never forsaken by God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ .
ਪਿਰੁ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਨਉਤਨੋ ਸਾਚਉ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
pir reesaaloo na-otano saacha-o marai na jaa-ay.
The ever-youthful, always loving and ever existing God is neither born,nor dies.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਰਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਵਾਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਨਿਤ ਰਵੈ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੪॥
nit ravai sohaaganee saachee nadar rajaa-ay. ||4||
Such a wedded bride (the united soul) who has been bestowed with God’s true glance of grace, always enjoy His blissful company.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਸੋਹਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਾਚੁ ਧੜੀ ਧਨ ਮਾਡੀਐ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
saach Dharhee Dhan maadee-ai kaaparh paraym seegaar.
She bedecks her tresses with the plaits of truth. She wears the ornaments and dresses of God,s love.
ਐਸੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਸੱਚ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੱਟੀਆਂ ਗੂੰਦਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਤੇ ਹਾਰ-ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਚੰਦਨੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਦਸਵਾ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
chandan cheet vasaa-i-aa mandar dasvaa du-aar.
She applies the perfume of enshrining God in the mind, and her temple is the inner conscious mind (where she experiences the glimpse of God).
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਇਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਚੰਦਨ (ਦਾ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਲਾਇਆ) ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਦੁਆਰ (ਦਿਮਾਗ਼, ਚਿੱਤ-ਆਕਾਸ਼) ਨੂੰ (ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਘਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਦੀਪਕੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਹਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
deepak sabad vigaasi-aa raam naam ur haar. ||5||
There she lights the lamp of Guru’s word (by making Guru’s advice as her guide) and wears the necklace of God’s Name.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਹੁਲਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਇਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਦੀਵਾ (ਜਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ), ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
ਨਾਰੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਮਣੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
naaree andar sohnee mastak manee pi-aar.
The true devotee (bride soul) bedecks her forehead with the jewel of God’s love and looks the most beautiful among women.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਜੜਾਊ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ (ਜੋੜ ਕੇ) ਸੋਹਣੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
sobhaa surat suhaavanee saachai paraym apaar.
Her glory is that she cherishes in her mind true love for the infinite God.
(ਤੇ, ਇਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੋਭਾ (ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹੈ), ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਰ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਮੰਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਮੰਨੀ) ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੬॥
bin pir purakh na jaan-ee saachay gur kai hayt pi-aar. ||6||
Being guided by love and the guidance of the Guru,she knows none other than her beloved Spouse(God).
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੀ ॥
ਨਿਸਿ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੀ ਸੁਤੀਏ ਕਿਉ ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
nis anDhi-aaree sutee-ay ki-o pir bin rain vihaa-ay.
Sleeping in dark night (of ignorance),how can you pass your night (of life) without the company of your Spouse(God)?
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੀ ਪਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਏ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਸੌਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘਦੀ l
ਅੰਕੁ ਜਲਉ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਲੀਅਉ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
ank jala-o tan jaalee-a-o man Dhan jal bal jaa-ay.
May that body burn limb by limb, may also burn the mind and wealth,
ਸੜ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ।ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜ ਬਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਧਨ ਭੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤਿ ਨ
ਜਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਵੀਆ ਤਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਜਾਇ ||
jaa Dhan kant na raavee-aa taa birthaa joban jaa-ay. ||7||
If a bride has not enjoyed the bliss of her Groom’s company, her youth goes waste.
ਜੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਸੇਜੈ ਕੰਤ ਮਹੇਲੜੀ ਸੂਤੀ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
sayjai kant mahaylrhee sootee boojh na paa-ay.
The ignorant bride is unaware that God is always with her but she does not recognise Him.
ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਉਤੇ ਸੁੱਤੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ l
ਹਉ ਸੁਤੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਗਣਾ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
ha-o sutee pir jaagnaa kis ka-o poochha-o jaa-ay.
Me the bride is lost (sleep) in worldly comforts while the groom (God) is awake.To whom may I go and ask for guidance?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ! ਮੈਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੱਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ); ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛਾਂ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਭੈ ਵਸੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਖਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥
satgur maylee bhai vasee naanak paraym sakhaa-ay. ||8||2||
O’ Nanak, only when the true Guru unite the soul bride with (God), she learn to live in His fear and loving companionship.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the First Guru:
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਪੇ ਕਥੈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
aapay gun aapay kathai aapay sun veechaar.
O’ God, You Yourself has all the virtues and You Yourself describe those and hearing those You Yourself ponders over them.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਣ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਆਪੇ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਖਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
aapay ratan parakh tooN aapay mol apaar.
O’ God, You Yourself are the Jewel (of your Naam), Yourself it’s assayer and Yourself are its infinite value.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਰਤਨ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਰਤਨ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਦਾ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮੁੱਲ ਹੈਂ।.
ਸਾਚਉ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
saacha-o maan mahat tooN aapay dayvanhaar. ||1||
You Yourself are the everlasting glory and honor, and You Yourself are the giver (of honor to Your creatures).
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਣ ਹੈਂ, ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ-ਵਡਿਆਈ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
har jee-o tooN kartaa kartaar.
“O’ God, You are the creator and maker of everything.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਹਰੇਕ ਸ਼ੈ ਦਾ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh tooN har naam milai aachaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Save me as it pleases You.(My prayer is that) I may be blessed with the lifestyle of devotion to Your Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ) ਰੱਖ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ। ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਚੰਗੇ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ) ਕਰਤੱਬ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠ ॥
aapay heeraa nirmalaa aapay rang majeeth.
You Yourself is pure diamond and You Yourself is the long lasting love, like the fast madder dye.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਚਮਕਦਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਜੀਠ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਹੈਂ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਊਜਲੋ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤ ਬਸੀਠੁ ॥
aapay motee oojlo aapay bhagat baseeth.
You Yourself is the shining pearl and Yourself is the mediator between the devotee and Yourself.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚੋਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਡੀਠੁ ਅਡੀਠੁ ॥੨॥
gur kai sabad salaahnaa ghat ghat deeth adeeth. ||2||
Through the Guru’s word, we should praise such a God who is pervading both visibly and invisibly in all hearts.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਹੈਂ l
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
aapay saagar bohithaa aapay paar apaar.
You Yourself are the ocean (world) and You Yourself the ship:You Yourself are this shore and the one beyond.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ, (ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਲਈ) ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਪਾਰਲਾ ਤੇ ਉਰਾਰਲਾ ਕੰਢਾ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਵਾਟ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਤੂੰ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਘਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
saachee vaat sujaan tooN sabad laghaavanhaar.
You Yourself are the true path and You are the wise guide to ferry us across through the Guru’s word.
ਭਗਤੀ-ਰੂਪ ਪੈਂਡਾ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਿਡਰਿਆ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
nidri-aa dar jaanee-ai baajh guroo gubaar. ||3||
The fear of this worldly ocean is for those who are not afraid of God; without (the Guru’s guidance),they live in pitch darkness (of ignorance).
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਡਰ-ਭਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਸਹਾਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੇਤੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
asthir kartaa daykhee-ai hor kaytee aavai jaa-ay.
The Creator alone is seen to be Eternal; all others come and go.
(ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਜੰਮਦੀ ਮਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਬੰਧੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
aapay nirmal ayk tooN hor banDhee DhanDhai paa-ay.
“O’ God,You Yourself are the only one who is Immaculate (free from worldly attachments),all others are bound up in worldly tasks.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੈਂ, ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
gur raakhay say ubray saachay si-o liv laa-ay. ||4||
They whom the Guru has saved (from worldly affairs) have been emancipated by cherishing love for the Eternal (God).
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬਚ ਗਏ ਹਨ l
