ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਠਹਰਾਈਐ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਡੋਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
gurmat man thehraa-ee-ai mayree jindurhee-ay anat na kaahoo dolay raam.
Under Guru’s Instructions, hold the mind steady, O my soul, do not let it wander anywhere.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਲਦਾ।
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੋਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥
man chindi-arhaa fal paa-i-aa har parabh gun naanak banee bolay raam. ||1||
One achieves the fruits of heart’s desires by uttering God’s praises as taught by the Guru.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੁਠੜਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੈਣ ਅਲਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
gurmat man amrit vuth-rhaa mayree jindurhee-ay mukh amrit bain alaa-ay raam.
O’ my soul, by acting on Guru’s teachings, in whose mind comes to abide the Ambrosial nectar of Naam, always keeps uttering the nectar-sweet words of the Guru.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
amrit banee bhagat janaa kee mayree jindurhee-ay man sunee-ai har liv laa-ay raam.
The Words of the devotees are Ambrosial Nectar, O my soul; we should listen to them by lovingly attuning to God’s Naam.
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ (ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
chiree vichhunnaa har parabh paa-i-aa gal mili-aa sahj subhaa-ay raam.
The person who has done that, is blessed by God from whom he had been separated since a long time, God blesses him with His love and affection.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਚਿਰ ਦਾ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਆ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਅਨਹਤ ਸਬਦ ਵਜਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥
jan naanak man anad bha-i-aa hai mayree jindurhee-ay anhat sabad vajaa-ay raam. ||2||
O’ my soul, devotee Nanak feels that bliss has come to prevail in his mind, as if unstuck melody of God’s praises is playing in it. ||2||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਵਾਜਾ) ਵਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਮੇਰੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਕੋਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
sakhee sahaylee mayree-aa mayree jindurhee-ay ko-ee har parabh aan milaavai raam.
O’ my soul, pray that my friends and companions would come and help unite me with God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਧਿਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ,
ਹਉ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
ha-o man dayva-o tis aapnaa mayree jindurhee-ay har parabh kee har kathaa sunaavai raam.
O’ my soul, I would surrender my mind to that person, who recites to me the divine gospel of God.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
gurmukh sadaa araaDh har mayree jindurhee-ay man chindi-arhaa fal paavai raam.
O’ my soul, meditate on God under Guru’s teachings and thus obtain the fruit of your heart’s desire.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥
naanak bhaj har sarnaagatee mayree jindurhee-ay vadbhaagee naam Dhi-aavai raam. ||3||
Nanak says, O’ my soul, seek God’s sanctuary, because only by good fortune a person can meditate on Naam ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਈ ਰਹੁ! ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh aa-ay mil mayree jindurhee-ay gurmat naam pargaasay raam.
O’ my soul, by His Mercy God reaches out to us and through the Guru’s teachings, God’s Naam is manifest in the heart.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਚਮਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਝੁ ਉਡੀਣੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਮਲ ਉਦਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
ha-o har baajh udeenee-aa mayree jindurhee-ay ji-o jal bin kamal udaasay raam.
O’ my soul, without seeing my loving God, I feel sad, just as without water a lotus looks gloomy and withered.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੁਮਲਾਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਕੁਮਲਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
gur poorai maylaa-i-aa mayree jindurhee-ay har sajan har parabh paasay raam.
O’ my soul, one who is united with God by the perfect Guru sees the divine Friend God, everywhere.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸੱਜਣ-ਹਰੀ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਦਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਗਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੧॥
Dhan Dhan guroo har dasi-aa mayree jindurhee-ay jan naanak naam bigaasay raam. ||4||1||
O my soul, blessed, blessed is the Guru, who has shown me the way to realize God, servant Nanak blossoms forth by the blessings of Naam. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਦੱਸ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ (ਮਃ ੪)
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
amrit har har naam hai mayree jindurhee-ay amrit gurmat paa-ay raam.
O’ my soul, God’s Naam is the immortalizing nectar which is obtained by following the Guru’s instruction.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
ha-umai maa-i-aa bikh hai mayree jindurhee-ay har amrit bikh leh jaa-ay raam.
O’ my soul, the ego of worldly wealth is a poison which can only be neutralized with the nectar of God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਹਉਮੈ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦਾ ਮੋਹ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ), ਇਹ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ (ਪੀਣ) ਨਾਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਸੁਕਾ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
man sukaa hari-aa ho-i-aa mayree jindurhee-ay har har naam Dhi-aa-ay raam.
The dry and withered mind is rejuvenated, O my soul, by meditating on God’s Naam.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੁੱਕਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਥੋੜ੍ਹ-ਵਿਤਾ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕਾ) ਮਨ ਹਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਸੁੱਕਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰੁੱਖ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਕਰੜਾ-ਪਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਰਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਹਰਿ ਭਾਗ ਵਡੇ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥
har bhaag vaday likh paa-i-aa mayree jindurhee-ay jan naanak naam samaa-ay raam. ||1||
Nanak says, O’ my soul, those who have realized God by great pre-ordained destiny, always remain absorbed in His Name. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਕ ਲਗਿ ਦੁਧ ਖੀਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
har saytee man bayDhi-aa mayree jindurhee-ay ji-o baalak lag duDh kheeray raam.
O’ my soul, one whose mind is pierced by love of God is like an infant attached to milk.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਉਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਦੁੱਧ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਟੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
har bin saaNt na paa-ee-ai mayree jindurhee-ay ji-o chaatrik jal bin tayray raam.
That person cannot obtain any peace without realizing God, O’ my soul, just as a song-bird yearns for the rain drops,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਠੰਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ (ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ (ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਦੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪੁਕਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ ਜਾਇ ਪਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਗੁਣ ਦਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
satgur sarnee jaa-ay pa-o mayree jindurhee-ay gun dasay har parabh kayray raam.
Go, and seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru, O my soul; He shall tell you of the Glorious Virtues of God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਈ ਰਹੁ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਜੇ ਸਬਦ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥
jan naanak har maylaa-i-aa mayree jindurhee-ay ghar vaajay sabad ghanayray raam. ||2||
O’ my soul, Nanak says, many songs of bliss play in the heart of the devotee, whom the Guru has united with God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸਾਜ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਬਾਧੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
manmukh ha-umai vichhurhay mayree jindurhee-ay bikh baaDhay ha-umai jaalay raam.
O’ my soul, because of their ego, the self-conceited persons are separated from God and thus remain bound in the web of worldly poison and conceit.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ), ਉਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਉ ਪੰਖੀ ਕਪੋਤਿ ਆਪੁ ਬਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਤਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਭਿ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
ji-o pankhee kapot aap banHaa-i-aa mayree jindurhee-ay ti-o manmukh sabh vas kaalay raam.
Just like birds that are trapped in the hunter’s net due to greed of birdfeed, these self-conceited persons are lured by the greed of worldly wealth and fall into the trap of spiritual death.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਚੋਗੇ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਤਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੰਛੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਸੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂੜ ਬਿਤਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
jo mohi maa-i-aa chit laa-iday mayree jindurhee-ay say manmukh moorh bitaalay raam.
The self-conceited persons who keep their minds attuned to the love of worldly riches, O’ my soul, are fools and evil minded.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਚਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
