One Universal Creator God, Truth Is The Name, Creative Being Personified, No Fear, No Hatred, Image Of The Undying, Beyond Birth, Self-Existent By Guru’s Grace.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਰਾਗ ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ, ਘਰ ੨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਰ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ਦੂਤਨ ਸੰਗਰੀਆ ॥
dootan sangree-aa.
Living in the company of such demons as lust and anger,
ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ,
ਭੁਇਅੰਗਨਿ ਬਸਰੀਆ ॥
bhu-i-angan basree-aa.
is like living among snakes.
ਸੱਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਸ (ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ) ਹੈ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥
anik upree-aa. ||1||
These evil impulses have ruined the lives of countless persons. ||1||
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਨੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ) ਨੂੰ ਤਬਾਹ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੀਆ ॥
ta-o mai har har karee-aa.
That is why I always meditate on God’s Naam.
ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਤਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ta-o sukh sehjaree-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Thus I have been living in peace and poise. ||1||Pause||
ਤਦੋਂ (ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹਰੀਆ ॥ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
mithan mohree-aa. an ka-o mayree-aa.
One who remains entangled in false attachment and love of worldly wealth,
ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਮੋਹ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ‘ਮੇਰੇ, ਮੇਰੇ’ ਰਟਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਿਚਿ ਘੂਮਨ ਘਿਰੀਆ ॥੨॥
vich ghooman ghiree-aa. ||2||
he remains entrapped in the whirlpool of efforts to acquire them. ||2||
(ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਘੁੰਮਣਘੇਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਗਲ ਬਟਰੀਆ ॥
sagal batree-aa.
All are like wandering travelers,
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ (ਇਥੇ) ਰਾਹੀ ਹੀ ਹਨ,
ਬਿਰਖ ਇਕ ਤਰੀਆ ॥
birakh ik taree-aa.
who have taken temporary shelter under the world-tree,
(ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਰੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹੇਠ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਬਹੁ ਬੰਧਹਿ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
baho banDheh paree-aa. ||3||
and are bound by many bonds of worldly attachments. ||3||
ਪਰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਧ ਸਫਰੀਆ ॥
thir saaDh safree-aa.
However, the truly permanent place is the congregation of the Guru,
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਹ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰੀਆ ॥
jah keertan haree-aa.
where there is always reflection and meditation on God’s praises.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਰੀਆ ॥੪॥੧॥

O’ Nanak, I have come under the shelter of the holy congregation. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ) ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਰਾਗ ਬੇਹਾਗੜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹਿ ਕੋਊ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
har kee gat neh ko-oo jaanai.
Nobody knows the state or nature of God.
ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਤਪੀ ਪਚਿ ਹਾਰੇ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਗ ਸਿਆਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jogee jatee tapee pach haaray ar baho log si-aanay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Yogis, the celibates, the penitents, and all kinds of clever and talented people have failed and given up trying to understand Him. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੋਗੀ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਪੀ, ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖਪ ਖਪ ਕੇ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਛਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਉ ਰੰਕ ਕਉ ਕਰਈ ਰਾਉ ਰੰਕ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
chhin meh raa-o rank ka-o kar-ee raa-o rank kar daaray.
In an instant, He can change a beggar into a ruler, and a ruler into a beggar.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰੀਤੇ ਭਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਸਖਨਾਵੈ ਯਹ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਵਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
reetay bharay bharay sakhnaavai yeh taa ko bivhaaray. ||1||
He fills what is empty, and empties what is full – such are His ways. ||1||
ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਭਾਂਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਮੀਰ ਤੇ ਅਮੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਅਪਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਪਸਾਰੀ ਆਪਹਿ ਦੇਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
apnee maa-i-aa aap pasaaree aapeh daykhanhaaraa.
He Himself has spread out this play of illusion of the universe and He Himself is the one who looks after it.
(ਇਸ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪ ਖਿਲਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਧਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥
naanaa roop Dharay baho rangee sabh tay rahai ni-aaraa. ||2||
He assumes different forms in different colors, and yet remains detached from it all. ||2||
ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਭੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅਗਨਤ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਜਿਹ ਸਭ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਾਇਓ ॥
agnat apaar alakh niranjan jih sabh jag bharmaa-i-o.
It is impossible to count the qualities of that limitless, incomprehensible, and detached God who has lured the world into this illusion of worldly riches and power.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ, ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਭਰਮ ਤਜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚਰਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੩॥੧॥੨॥
sagal bharam taj naanak paraanee charan taahi chit laa-i-o. ||3||1||2||
Nanak says only by abandoning all doubts, one can attune the mind to Him, and obtain true peace. ||3||1||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭਟਕਣਾਂ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੧॥੨॥

har har naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai mayree jindurhee-ay gurmukh naam amolay raam.
O’ my soul, meditate again and again on the invaluable Naam of God, which is obtained through the Guru’s grace.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਬੀਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਝਕੋਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
har ras beeDhaa har man pi-aaraa man har ras naam jhakolay raam.
The mind which is pierced with the sublime essence of God becomes cherished by God, and then it lovingly remains immersed in God’s Naam.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚੁੱਭੀ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
