One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Raag Devgandhari, Fifth Guru:
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਹਿਆ ॥
apunay satgur peh bin-o kahi-aa.
When I offered my prayer before my true Guru,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਗਲ ਅੰਦੇਸਰਾ ਗਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bha-ay kirpaal da-i-aal dukh bhanjan mayraa sagal andaysraa ga-i-aa. rahaa-o.
then the merciful God, destroyer of sorrows became kind and all my anxiety and worry was gone. ||Pause||
ਤਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਏ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਖੰਡੀ ਲੋਭੀ ਹਮਰਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਅਵਗੁਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਹਿਆ ॥
ham paapee paakhandee lobhee hamraa gun avgun sabh sahi-aa.
we are sinner, hypocritical and greedy, but God puts up with all of our virtues and vices.
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਪੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪਖੰਡੀ ਹਾਂ, ਲੋਭੀ ਹਾਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਤਨਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਸਾਡਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਗੁਣ ਔਗੁਣ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਮੁਏ ਦੁਸਟ ਜੋ ਖਇਆ ॥੧॥
kar mastak Dhaar saaj nivaajay mu-ay dusat jo kha-i-aa. ||1||
After creating the human beings, God provides His support and makes them full of virtues and all the enemies (lust, anger etc) responsible for destroying them spiritually are eradicated. ||1||
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਵੈਰੀ, ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਸਧਾਰੀ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨ ਸਹਜਇਆ ॥
par-upkaaree sarab saDhaaree safal darsan sehaj-i-aa.
God is benevolent, He provides support to all; He provides peace and poise and His blessed vision is helpful for achieving the purpose of human life.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਪਰ-ਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਉਰ ਧਰਿਆ ॥੨॥੨੪॥
kaho naanak nirgun ka-o daataa charan kamal ur Dhari-aa. ||2||24||
Nanak says, God is the benefactor even to the unvirtuous and I have enshrined His immaculate Name in my heart. ||2||24||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਆਖ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੨੪॥

ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
anaath naath parabh hamaaray.
O’ my God, the support of the supportless,
ਹੇ ਅਨਾਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ ਸਾਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saran aa-i-o raakhanhaaray. rahaa-o.
O’ the savior God, I have come to Your refuge. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਸਰਬ ਪਾਖ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
sarab paakh raakh muraaray.
O’ God, protect me in all places,
ਹੇ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ! ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰ!
ਆਗੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਅੰਤੀ ਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
aagai paachhai antee vaaray. ||1||
in the next world, in this world and in the end. ||1||
ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ, ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲੇ ਵੇਲੇ ॥੧॥
ਜਬ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਤਬ ਤੁਹਾਰੇ ॥
jab chitva-o tab tuhaaray.
O’ God, whenever I think, then I remember Your virtues.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਭੀ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਉਨ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਧਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
un samHaar mayraa man saDhaaray. ||2||
By remembering Your virtues my mind feels solaced. ||2||
(ਤੇਰੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੁਨਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਾਰੇ ॥
sun gaava-o gur bachnaaray.
O’ God, I sing Your praises by listening to the Guru’s word.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ਸਾਧ ਦਰਸਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
bal bal jaa-o saaDh darsaaray. ||3||
O’ God, I dedicate myself to the blessed vision of the Guru ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਉ ਏਕ ਅਸਾਰੇ ॥
man meh raakha-o ayk asaaray.
Within my mind, I keep hope only on the One (God).
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨੫॥
naanak parabh mayray karnaihaaray. ||4||25||
O’ Nanak, my God is the doer of everything.||4||25||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੫॥

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਇਹੈ ਮਨੋਰਥੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
parabh ihai manorath mayraa.
O’ God, this is the only yearning of my mind,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ,
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਚੇਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kirpaa niDhaan da-i-aal mohi deejai kar santan kaa chayraa. rahaa-o.
that O’ God, the treasure of mercy, bless me with this gift and make me the disciple of Your saints. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ ਜੁ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਓ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਹਕਾਲ ਲਾਗਉ ਜਨ ਚਰਨੀ ਨਿਸ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
paraatehkaal laaga-o jan charnee nis baasur daras paava-o.
O’ God, I wish that early in the morning, I may humbly serve Your devotees, and day and night I may have their blessed vision.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਵੇਰੇ (ਉੱਠ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾਂ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਕਰਉ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
tan man arap kara-o jan sayvaa rasnaa har gun gaava-o. ||1||
Surrendering my heart and mind, I may serve the devotees and with my tongue I may sing praises of God.||1||
ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੀ-ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਤ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
saas saas simra-o parabh apunaa satsang nit rahee-ai.
I may remember my God with every breath of mine, and I may always remain in the company of the saints.
ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਏਕੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਮੋਰਾ ਅਨਦੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੨॥੨੬॥
ayk aDhaar naam Dhan moraa anad naanak ih lahee-ai. ||2||26||
O’ Nanak, the wealth of God’s Name may remain my only support in life and I may keep having the bliss from remembering Naam. ||2||26||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ਤੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੨॥੨੬॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੀਤਾ ਐਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
meetaa aisay har jee-o paa-ay.
I have realized such a reverend God as my friend,
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਲੱਭ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੰਗੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chhod na jaa-ee sad hee sangay an-din gur mil gaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who never deserts me and always remains with me; joining with the Guru, I always keep singing His praises. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮਨੋਹਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖੈਨਾ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਏ ॥
mili-o manohar sarab sukhainaa ti-aag na kathoo jaa-ay.
I have realized the fascinating God, who has blessed me with celestial peace;forsaking me, He never goes anywhere.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਪੇਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੋਮ ਨ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥
anik anik bhaat baho paykhay pari-a rom na samsar laa-ay. ||1||
I have seen many different kinds of other people, but none is equal to even a hair of my beloved God. ||1||
ਹੋਰ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਲ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਮੰਦਰਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਸੋਭ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਅਨਹਤ ਰੁਣੁ ਝੁਣੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
mandar bhaag sobh du-aarai anhat run jhun laa-ay.
There is such a bliss in my heart, as if it is the blessed temple of God with beautiful gates, in which continuous divine music keeps playing.
ਕੀਰਤੀਮਾਨ ਹੈ ਸਾਈਂ ਦਾ ਮਹਿਲ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ, ਜਿਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਰੀਲਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗੂੰਜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਥੀਤੇ ਸਦ ਥਾਏ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੭॥
kaho naanak sadaa rang maanay garih pari-a theetay sad thaa-ay. ||2||1||27||
Nanak says, he, who realizes the ever presence of God in his heart, enjoys the eternal bliss.||2||1||27||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਆ ਟਿਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੭॥

ਦਰਸਨ ਨਾਮ ਕਉ ਮਨੁ ਆਛੈ ॥
darsan naam ka-o man aachhai.
My mind longs for the blessed vision of God and to meditate on Naam.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤਾਂਘਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਥਾਨ ਰੇ ਆਹਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਛੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bharam aa-i-o hai sagal thaan ray aahi pari-o sant paachhai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have wandered everywhere, and now I have come to follow the saints. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਸਭਨੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਹੋ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਸੇਵੀ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਰਾਧੀ ਜੋ ਦਿਸਟੈ ਸੋ ਗਾਛੈ ॥
kis ha-o sayvee kis aaraaDhee jo distai so gaachhai.
Whosoever I see in the world is perishable; whom may I serve? whom may I worship in adoration?
(ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਾਂ?
