ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਾਕਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਜਮ ਕਾਣਿ ਨ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਬਾਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥II
satgur vaak hirdai har nirmal naa jam kaan na jam kee baakee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One who through Naam has purified the heart, such person becomes fearless of any vices or attachments. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਬਾਕੀ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪੈ ਸਕੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਸਨ ਰਵਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗੇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਹਰੀ ॥
har gun rasan raveh parabh sangay jo tis bhaavai sahj haree.I
He recites the Glorious Praises of the God with his heart and tongue and believe that whatever pleases God, imperceptivity keeps on happening.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹ ਇਹੀ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਮੇਕ ਘਰੀ ॥੨॥
bin har naam baritha jag jeevan har bin nihfal mayk gharee. ||2||
I Without Naam, the life passes in vain, and every moment is useless. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਊਣਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਘੜੀ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਖੋਟੇ ਠਉਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ॥
ai jee khotay tha-ur naahee ghar baahar nindak gat nahee kaa-ee.I
The false have no place of rest, either inside or outside; the slanderer does not find liberation.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਬਾਹਰ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਰੋਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਖਸ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ ॥੩॥I
ros karai parabh bakhas na maytai nit nit charhai savaa-ee. ||3||I
Even if one is resentful, God does not withhold His blessings; day by day, they increase. ||3||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ (ਇਹ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਖਿੱਝੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਬੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਗੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਧਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਈ ॥
Iai jee gur kee daat na maytai ko-ee mayrai thaakur aap divaa-ee.
INo one can take away the Guru’s gifts; God Himself has given them.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਦਾਤ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ; ਠਾਕੁਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਦਾਤ ਦਿਵਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨਰ ਕਾਲੇ ਮੁਖ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥
nindak nar kaalay mukh nindaa jinH gur kee daat na bhaa-ee. ||4||
IThe black-faced slanderers, with slander in their mouths, do not appreciate the Guru’s gifts. ||4||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ (ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੪॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਅਧੂਆ ਰਾਈ ॥
Iai jee saran paray parabh bakhas milaavai bilam na aDhoo-aa raa-ee.I
God forgives and blends with Himself those who take to His Sanctuary; He does not delay for an instant.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਢਿੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਆਨਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਾਥਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥I
aanad mool naath sir naathaa satgur mayl milaa-ee. ||5||
IGod is the source of all bliss, and is the supreme Master of all. By uniting with the Guru, He unites a person with Himself.||5||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਾਥ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਨਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥
ai jee sadaa da-i-aal da-i-aa kar ravi-aa gurmat bharman chukaa-ee.
O’ My mind, God is the Spring of Kindness, always kind, which he spreads through Guru’s Teachings, our wanderings cease.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਰਸੁ ਭੇਟਿ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੋਈ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੬॥
paaras bhayt kanchan Dhaat ho-ee satsangat kee vadi-aa-ee. ||6||
Touching the philosopher’s stone, metal is transformed into gold, similarly in the company of holy people, a person becomes immaculate. This is the greatness of the company of saintly people.||6||
ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਲੋਹਾ ਆਦਿਕ) ਧਾਤ ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਹਰਿ ਜਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੀ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭਾਈ॥
har jal nirmal man isnaanee majan satgur bhaa-ee.
The water of Naam is immaculate & pure, with the help of Guru give your mind the bath.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਲ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁਖ (ਇਸ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ) ਚੁੱਭੀ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੭॥
punrap janam naahee jan sangat jotee jot milaa-ee. ||7||
That humble being who joins the holy congregation shall not be consigned to reincarnation again; with the help of Guru his soul has union with God. ||7||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਤੂੰ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਗੰਮ ਤਰੋਵਰੁ ਹਮ ਪੰਖੀ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
tooN vad purakh agamm tarovar ham pankhee tujh maahee.
You are the supreme Being, and are like an incomprehensible tree; we are like bird perched on Your branches.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੰਛੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ॥੮॥੪॥
naanak naam niranjan deejai jug jug sabad salaahee. ||8||4||
Grant Nanak the Immaculate Naam; throughout the ages, he sings the Praises of the Word of God. ||8||4||
ਹੇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੮॥੪॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਆਰਾਧਿਤੰ ਸਚੁ ਪਿਆਸ ਪਰਮ ਹਿਤੰ ॥
bhagat paraym aaraaDhitaN sach pi-aas param hitaN.
The devotees worship God in loving adoration. They thirst for Him, with infinite affection.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਆਰਾਧਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਤੀਬਰ ਖਿੱਚ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਲਲਾਪ ਬਿਲਲ ਬਿਨੰਤੀਆ ਸੁਖ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤ ਹਿਤੰ ॥੧॥
billaap bilal binantee-aa sukh bhaa-ay chit hitaN. ||1||
Their Desperate longing for His Vision Only then their minds enjoy celestial peace.||1|
ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ) ਹਾੜੇ-ਤਰਲੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਬੇਨਤੀਆਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣੀ ॥
jap man naam har sarnee.
Recite Naam, O’ my mind, and take to His Sanctuary.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਫੜ!
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਤਾਰਿ ਤਾਰਣ ਰਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sansaar saagar taar taaran ram naam kar karnee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Naam is the boat to cross over the world-ocean. Practice such a way of life. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਬਣਾ! ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਲਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏ ਮਨ ਮਿਰਤ ਸੁਭ ਚਿੰਤੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਮਣੰ ॥
ay man mirat subh chi-aNtaN gur sabad har ramnaN.
O’ mind, even death wishes you well, when you remember God through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਤੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ), ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੌਤ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੈ।
ਮਤਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੰ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਨਿ ਰਮਣੰ ॥੨॥
mat tat gi-aanaN kali-aan niDhaanaN har naam man ramnaN. ||
The intellect receives the treasure, the knowledge of reality and supreme bliss, by repeating Naam in the mind. ||2
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਜਗਤ-ਮੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਚਲ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੰ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਹਿਤੰ ॥
chal chit vit bharmaa bharamaN jag moh magan hitaN.
The fickle consciousness wanders around chasing after wealth; it is intoxicated with worldly love and emotional attachment.
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ) ਧਨ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਚਲ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਜਗਤ (ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਦਿੜੰ ਮਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਵਾਕਿ ਸਬਦ ਰਤੰ ॥੩॥
thir naam bhagat dirhaN matee gur vaak sabad rataN. ||3||
Devotion to the Naam is permanently implanted within the mind, when it is attuned to the Guru’s Teachings and His Word. |
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸਮਝ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਭਰਮਾਤਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਜਗੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਖਪੰ ॥
bharmaat bharam na chook-ee jag janam bi-aaDh khapaN.
Afflicted by Maya person keeps on wandering, doubts are not dispelled; world is perpetually exhausted by the rounds of reincarnation.
ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੰ ਸਤਿ ਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਤਪੰ ॥੪॥
asthaan har nihkayvalaN sat matee naam tapaN. ||4||
O’ my mind, sanctuary of God is the only place where Maya has no effect, Meditate on Naam.||4||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਹੀ ਐਸਾ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਤਪ ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹ ਹੇਤ ਬਿਆਪਿਤੰ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੰ ॥
ih jag moh hayt bi-aapitaN dukh aDhik janam marnaN.
This world is engrossed in attachment and transitory love; it suffers the terrible pains of birth and death.
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਜੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਊਬਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਰਮਣੰ ॥੫॥
bhaj saran satgur oobrahi har naam rid ramnaN. ||5||
Run to the Sanctuary of the Guru, recite Naam in your heart, and you shall swim across the worldly Ocean. ||5||
ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਮਰ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਤੂੰ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਸਕੇਂਗਾ ॥੫॥
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਨੰ ਸਹਜ ਬੀਚਾਰੰ ॥
gurmat nihchal man man manaN sahj beechaaraN.
Following the Guru’s Teaching, the mind becomes calm; it accepts it, and reflects upon devine knowledge in a peaceful poise.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪੱਕੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਇਕਾਗ੍ਰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ)।
ਸੋ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਾਰੰ ॥੬॥
so man nirmal jit saach antar gi-aan ratan saaraN. ||6
That mind is pure, which enshrines Truth within, the most excellent jewel of spiritual wisdom. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਰਤਨ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਰੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਮਨਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ॥
bhai bhaa-ay bhagat tar bhavjal manaa chit laa-ay har charnee.
By the Fear of God, and Love of God, and by devotion, man crosses over the terrifying world-ocean, focusing his consciousness on the Naam.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਰਹੁ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹੁ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ।
