ਪਵਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸ ਅਕਾਰ ॥
pavan paanee agan tin kee-aa barahmaa bisan mahays akaar.
When God created air, water and fire, then He created god Brahma, god Vishnu and god Shiva and other forms.
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਅੱਗ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤ) ਰਚੇ, ਤਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਵਜੂਦ ਰਚੇ।
ਸਰਬੇ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੪॥
sarbay jaachik tooN parabh daataa daat karay apunai beechaar. ||4||
O’ God, all the beings are beggars and You alone are the benefactor and You give gifts in accordance with Your own considerations. ||4||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਨ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਹੈਂ। ॥੪॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਇਕ ਦੇਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
kot taytees jaacheh parabh naa-ik dayday tot naahee bhandaar.
O, the Master-God, millions of angels beg of You; You keep giving but Your treasures never get exhausted.
ਹੇ ਨਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਘਾਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਊਂਧੈ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੀਧੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਰੈ ਨਿਹਾਰ ॥੫॥
ooNDhai bhaaNdai kachh na samaavai seeDhai amrit parai nihaar. ||5||
Just as nothing falls in an inverted utensil and stream of ambrosial nectar falls in an upright utensil; similarly, the grace of God is bestowed on the seekers, but those whose minds are turned away from Him receive nothing. ||5||
(ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਸਰਧਾ-ਹੀਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਦਾ, ਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ-ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਜਾਚਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰ ॥
siDh samaaDhee antar jaacheh riDh siDh jaach karahi jaikaar.
While sitting in trance, the Siddhas (adept yogis) beg from You, they beg for miraculous powers and proclaim Your greatness.
ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ ਭੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਜੈ-ਜੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੈਸੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੋਇ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੈਸੋ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥੬॥
jaisee pi-aas ho-ay man antar taiso jal dayveh parkaar. ||6||
O’ God, whatever kind of thirst (or desire) is in any one’s mind, You give that kind of water or the gift. ||6||
ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਮੰਗਣ ਦੀ) ਪਿਆਸ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਦੇ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੬॥
ਬਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੁਰਾਰ ॥
baday bhaag gur sayveh apunaa bhayd naahee gurdayv muraar.
Truly fortunate are those who follow their Guru’s teachings; there is no difference between the Guru and God.
ਅਸਲੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਾਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹੈ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੭॥
taa ka-o kaal naahee jam johai boojheh antar sabad beechaar. ||7||
Those, who reflect on the Guru’s word and come to realize God within their minds, are liberated from the fear of death.||7||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੭॥
ਅਬ ਤਬ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਮਾਗਉ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
ab tab avar na maaga-o har peh naam niranjan deejai pi-aar.
O’ God, now or ever, I will not ask for anything else from You, bless me with the love for immaculate Naam.
ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak chaatrik amrit jal maagai har jas deejai kirpaa Dhaar. ||8||2||
Like a song-bird, Nanak prays for the ambrosial nectar of Naam; O’ God, bestow mercy and bless me with the gift of singing Your praises. ||8||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇਹ ॥੮॥੨॥

Raag Goojree, First Guru:
ਐ ਜੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਜਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ॥
ai jee janam marai aavai fun jaavai bin gur gat nahee kaa-ee.
O’ dear, one is born and then dies; the cycle of birth and death continues, because supreme spiritual status is not attained without the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਫਿਰ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
gurmukh paraanee naamay raatay naamay gat pat paa-ee. ||1||
The Guru’s followers remain imbued with Naam and by meditating on Naam, they attain supreme spiritual status and honor in God’s presence. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
bhaa-ee ray raam naam chit laa-ee.
O’ brother, attune your mind to God’s Name,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਚੇ ਐਸੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee har parabh jaachay aisee naam badaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Such is the glory of Naam that, by the Guru’s grace, one begs only from God. ||1||Pause||
ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ, ਕਿ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਇਨਸਾਨ ਕੇਵਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਕਉ ਕੇਤੇ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
ai jee bahutay bhaykh karahi bhikhi-aa ka-o kaytay udar bharan kai taa-ee.
O’ dear, you wear various (religious) robes for begging from door to door for the sake of sustaining yourself.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਪੇਟ ਭਰਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ (ਦਰ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਭੇਖ ਬਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
bin har bhagat naahee sukh paraanee bin gur garab na jaa-ee. ||2||
O’ mortal, there can be no celestial peace without devotional worship of God; ego does not depart without following the Guru’s teachings. ||2||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਵੈਰਾਈ ॥
ai jee kaal sadaa sir oopar thaadhay janam janam vairaa-ee.
O’ dear, the fear of death hangs constantly over your head; birth after birth, this has been your enemy.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਖਲੋਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਵੈਰਨ ਤੁਰੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਬਾਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥
saachai sabad ratay say baachay satgur boojh bujhaa-ee. ||3||
The true Guru has imparted this understanding that, those who remain imbued with the divine word are saved from the fear of death. ||3||
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਸਹਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਦੂਤੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਸੰਤਾਈ ॥
gur sarnaa-ee johi na saakai doot na sakai santaa-ee.
The fear of death cannot torture those who are in the Guru’s refuge,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੱਕ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਅਵਿਗਤ ਨਾਥ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥
avigat naath niranjan raatay nirbha-o si-o liv laa-ee. ||4||
because they remain imbued with the love of the invisible and immaculate God and remain attuned to that fearless God. ||4||
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਜਗਤ ਨਾਥ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਐ ਜੀਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥
ai jee-o naam dirhahu naamay liv laavhu satgur tayk tikaa-ee.
O’ my dear, lean on the true Guru’s support, attune to Naam and firmly enshrine it in your heart.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟਿਕਾ l
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥
jo tis bhaavai so-ee karsee kirat na mayti-aa jaa-ee. ||5||
Whatever pleases God, He does; no one can erase his past deeds. ||5||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਛ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਓਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੫॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
ai jee bhaag paray gur saran tumHaaree mai avar na doojee bhaa-ee.
O’ my respected Guru, I have hurried to your refuge because I do not like protection from anyone else.
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ।
ਅਬ ਤਬ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਉ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੬॥
ab tab ayko ayk pukaara-o aad jugaad sakhaa-ee. ||6||
Now and forever, I utter the Name of one God alone, who has been the friend and companion of mortals throughout the ages. ||6||
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਇਕੋ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਕੂਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਉਹੀ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ, ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਸਾਥੀ-ਮਿੱਤਰ ਚਲਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਨਾਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਸਿਉ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
ai jee raakho paij naam apunay kee tujh hee si-o ban aa-ee.
O’ my revered God, uphold the traditional honor of Your Name, because I am only imbued with Your love.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਪਾਲ, ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਵਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਈ ॥੭॥
kar kirpaa gur daras dikhaavhu ha-umai sabad jalaa-ee. ||7||
Bestow mercy, reveal to me your vision and burn my ego with divine word. ||7||
ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਵੇ ॥੭॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
ai jee ki-aa maaga-o kichh rahai na deesai is jag meh aa-i-aa jaa-ee.
O’ my revered God, what (else besides Naam) may I ask of You? Nothing seems eternal; whoever comes into this world shall depart.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੈਂ ਕੀਹ ਮੰਗਾਂ? ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਐਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇ। ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਭੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕੰਠਿ ਬਣਾਈ ॥੮॥੩॥
naanak naam padaarath deejai hirdai kanth banaa-ee. ||8||3||
O’ God, bless me, Nanak, with the wealth of Naam so that I may enshrine it in my heart like a necklace around the neck.||8||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ (ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਵਾਂ ॥੮॥੩॥

ਐ ਜੀ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਉਤਮ ਨੀਚ ਨ ਮਧਿਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ॥
ai jee naa ham utam neech na maDhim har sarnaagat har kay log.
O’ dear, I consider myself to be neither of high, nor low, nor of medium social status; I am simply a devotee of God and have come to God’s refuge.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਨਾਂ ਉੱਚੀ, ਨਾਂ ਨੀਵੀਂ, ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰਲੀ ਸ਼ਰੇਣੀ ਦਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸੋਗ ਬਿਜੋਗ ਬਿਸਰਜਿਤ ਰੋਗ ॥੧॥
naam ratay kayval bairaagee sog bijog bisarjit rog. ||1||
Imbued with the Naam, I am detached from the world, the love for Maya, and I have forgotten all about sorrow, separation and disease. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਮ, ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ॥੧॥
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ॥
bhaa-ee ray gur kirpaa tay bhagat thaakur kee.
O’ my friends, it is only through the Guru’s grace that the devotional worship of God can be performed.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
