ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗਭੀਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਅਘਖੰਡੁ ॥
satgur gahir gabheer hai sukh saagar agh-khand.
The true Guru is like a deep and profound ocean of peace and destroyer of sins.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਮਾਨੋ), ਇਕ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਡੰਡੁ ॥
jin gur sayvi-aa aapnaa jamdoot na laagai dand.
To the true devotees, even the messenger of death does not punish.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਮਦੂਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਜਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਖੋਜਿ ਡਿਠਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡੁ ॥
gur naal tul na lag-ee khoj dithaa barahmand.
There is none to compare with the Guru; I have searched and looked throughout the universe.
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੰਡੁ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੯੦॥
naam niDhaan satgur dee-aa sukh naanak man meh mand. ||4||20||90||
O’ Nanak, whom the true Guru has blessed with the treasure of God’s Name that person is in spiritual bliss.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਖਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰੋ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the Fifth Guru:
ਮਿਠਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਇਆ ਕਉੜਾ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
mithaa kar kai khaa-i-aa ka-urhaa upji-aa saad.
Considering worldly pleasures as sweet, one indulges in them but later finds them to be bitter and painful.
ਜੀਵ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੌੜਾ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਰਿਦ ਕੀਏ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਚਿਆ ਬਾਦੁ ॥
bhaa-ee meet surid kee-ay bikhi-aa rachi-aa baad.
One might develop love for one’s brothers and friends, but in the end finds out that he has built nothing but a network of pain and suffering.
ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਭਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਦੋਸਤ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਇਹ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਝਗੜਾ ਖੜਾ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾਂਦੇ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੧॥
jaaNday bilam na hova-ee vin naavai bismaad. ||1||
It does not take any time for this network to disappear. Without God’s Name one is left bewildered.
ਅਲੋਪ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਇਹ ਢਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ। ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੌਰ-ਭੌਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
mayray man satgur kee sayvaa laag.
O’ my Mind, engage in the service (follow the teachings) of the true Guru.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ) ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਵਿਣਸਣਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo deesai so vinsanaa man kee mat ti-aag. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Give up the habit of following your mind, because whatever you see (worldly illusion) is perishable.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਤੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਤਿਆਗ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ l
ਜਿਉ ਕੂਕਰੁ ਹਰਕਾਇਆ ਧਾਵੈ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਜਾਇ ॥
ji-o kookar harkaa-i-aa Dhaavai dah dis jaa-ay.
Like the mad dog running around in all directions,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਲਕਾਇਆ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਲ ਭੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਲੋਭੀ ਜੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਭਖੁ ਅਭਖੁ ਸਭ ਖਾਇ ॥
lobhee jant na jaan-ee bhakh abhakh sabh khaa-ay.
the greedy person, unaware of the evil consequences, consumes everything. (eats everything, be it edible or inedible)
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਲੋਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ, ਚੰਗੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਖਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਦਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
kaam kroDh mad bi-aapi-aa fir fir jonee paa-ay. ||2||
Engrossed in the intoxication of lust and anger, people wander through cycle of birth and death.
ਕਾਮ ਦੇ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਚੋਗ ਬਣਾਇ ॥
maa-i-aa jaal pasaari-aa bheetar chog banaa-ay.
(Like a hunter) God has spread the net of Maya, and in it He has placed the bait (of worldly riches and power)
ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਚੋਗਾ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜਾਲ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਪੰਖੀ ਫਾਸਿਆ ਨਿਕਸੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਮਾਇ ॥
tarisnaa pankhee faasi-aa nikas na paa-ay maa-ay.
O’ my mother, the soul-birds (human beings) driven by the love for Maya, get caught in the trap and cannot find any escape.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
jin keetaa tiseh na jaan-ee fir fir aavai jaa-ay. ||3||
One who does not realize the Creator, keeps going in the cycle of birth and death.
ਜਿਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ, ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
anik parkaaree mohi-aa baho biDh ih sansaar.
This world has been enticed (by maya) in so many different ways and forms.
ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਰਖੈ ਸੋ ਰਹੈ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
jis no rakhai so rahai samrith purakh apaar.
They alone are saved, whom the infinite and Almighty God protects.
ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਬਚ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਪ ਬਚਾਏ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੯੧॥
har jan har liv uDhray naanak sad balihaar. ||4||21||91||
O’ Nanak, I dedicate myself forever to the devotees of God, who are saved by their attachment to Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ।

Siree Raag, by the Fifth Guru, Second Beat
ਗੋਇਲਿ ਆਇਆ ਗੋਇਲੀ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਡੰਫੁ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥
go-il aa-i-aa go-ilee ki-aa tis damf pasaar.
The herdsman (human being) has come into the green pasture (this world) for a very short period. Why should one make a show of one’s false (short lived) possessions?
(ਔੜ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਥੋੜੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਲਈ) ਗੁੱਜਰ (ਆਪਣਾ ਮਾਲ-ਡੰਗਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਚਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਡੱਪਣ ਦਾ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਸੋਭਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
muhlat punnee chalnaa tooN sammal ghar baar. ||1||
O’ mortal, When your allotted time is up, you will have to leave this world. You should take care of your real abode.
ਜਦ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮਾਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਨਿਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਏਗਾ, (ਹੇ ਵਾਗੀ!) ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੀ ਘਰ-ਘਾਟ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ l
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ਮਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
har gun gaa-o manaa satgur sayv pi-aar.
O’ my mind, sing the Praises of the God, and serve (follow the teachings of) the true Guru with love.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ। ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ।
ਕਿਆ ਥੋੜੜੀ ਬਾਤ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ki-aa thorh-rhee baat gumaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
For this short period of life, why have pride and ego?
ਥੋੜੀ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਗੱਲ ਪਿੱਛੇ (ਇਸ ਥੋੜੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਉਂ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਜੈਸੇ ਰੈਣਿ ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਸਹਿ ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ॥
jaisay rain paraahunay uth chalsahi parbhaat.
just as a guest, who comes to stays for the night, departs in the morning (similarly you would depart from here when your life comes to an end).
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਘਰ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ) ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਉਥੋਂ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਚੱਲ ਪੈਣਗੇ (ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਚੱਲ ਪਏਂਗਾ)।
ਕਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਸਿਉ ਸਭ ਫੁਲਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਗਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
ki-aa tooN rataa girsat si-o sabh fulaa kee baagaat. ||2||
Why are you so attached to the household? It is all like flowers in the garden (that wither away after a short while).
ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਨਾਲ (ਬਾਗ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ) ਕਿਉਂ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ? ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਬਗ਼ੀਚੀ (ਸਮਾਨ) ਹੈ
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੀਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੋੜਿ ॥
mayree mayree ki-aa karahi jin dee-aa so parabh lorh.
Why do you say, “Mine, mine”? Look to God, who has given it to you.
ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ ਮੇਰੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਮੇਰੀ ਹੈ-ਕਿਉਂ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਮਾਣ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ? ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ।
ਸਰਪਰ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਛਡਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਲਖ ਕਰੋੜਿ ॥੩॥
sarpar uthee chalnaa chhad jaasee lakh karorh. ||3||
It is certain that one day you must depart from this world, and leave behind your thousands and millions (all worldly wealth).
ਇਥੋਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਭੀ) ਲੱਖਾ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਰੁਪਏ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਇਗਾ
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਿਆ ਦੁਲਭ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਾਇਓਇ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh bharmati-aa dulabh janam paa-i-o-ay.
After wandering through millions of incarnations, you have obtained this invaluable human life.
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੌਂ ਭੌਂ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਨੇੜਾ ਆਇਓਇ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੯੨॥
naanak naam samaal tooN so din nayrhaa aa-i-o-ay. ||4||22||92||
O’ Nanak, enshrine the Name of the God in your heart; the day of departure is drawing near.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ। ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਜਦੋਂ ਇਥੋਂ ਕੂਚ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ)

ਤਿਚਰੁ ਵਸਹਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੜੀ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
tichar vaseh suhaylrhee jichar saathee naal.
Like a bride is happy as long as her groom is with her, the body is happy (alive) when the her companion (soul) is residing in the body.
ਹੇ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ! ਤੂੰ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਵੱਸੇਂਗੀ, ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ (ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰਾ) ਸਾਥੀ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਧਨ ਖਾਕੂ ਰਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
jaa saathee uthee chali-aa taa Dhan khaakoo raal. ||1||
But when the companion (soul) departs from this world, then the body will mingle with dust.
ਜਦੋਂ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਸਾਥੀ (ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਚੱਲ ਪਏਗਾ, ਤਦੋਂ, ਹੇ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ! ਤੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਲ ਜਾਇਂਗੀ l
ਮਨਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਣੈ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥
man bairaag bha-i-aa darsan daykh-nai kaa chaa-o.
My mind has become detached from the world; it longs to see the Vision of God.
ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਇੱਛਾਵਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਉਮੰਗ ਹੈ।
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

O’ God, blessed is Your Place (God’s court).
(ਹੇ ਹਰੀ!) ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ (ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਕੰਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਸਭਿ ਕਹਾਤਿ ॥
jichar vasi-aa kant ghar jee-o jee-o sabh kahaat.
As long as the groom (soul) is in the house (body), everyone respects the bride-body.
ਹੇ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਖਸਮ (ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੇ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਤੈਨੂੰ ‘ਜੀ ਜੀ’ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।
ਜਾ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਸੀ ਕੰਤੜਾ ਤਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਤ ॥੨॥
jaa uthee chalsee kant-rhaa taa ko-ay na puchhai tayree baat. ||2||
But as soon as the groom (soul) departs, no one cares for the body.
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਕੰਤ (ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਏਗਾ, ਤਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਸਹੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੁ ॥
pay-ee-arhai saho sayv tooN saahurrhai sukh vas.
O’ bride (soul), as long as you are in your parent’s house (in this world), keep meditating on your husband-God, so that you may live peacefully in your in- law’s house (God’s court)
(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੂੰ) ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੈਂ, ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਤੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੀ ਰਹੁ। ਸਹੁਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖੀ ਵੱਸੇਂਗੀ।
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਚਜੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ਸਿਖੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਦੁਖੁ ॥੩॥
gur mil chaj achaar sikh tuDh kaday na lagai dukh. ||3||
Meeting with the Guru, learn proper etiquette and manners, so that you may never suffer.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਚ ਸਿੱਖ, ਚੰਗਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਬਣਾਣਾ ਸਿੱਖ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪੇਗਾ l
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਹੁਰੈ ਵੰਞਣਾ ਸਭਿ ਮੁਕਲਾਵਣਹਾਰ ॥
sabhnaa saahurai vanj-naa sabh muklaavanhaar.
All have to depart from this world, everyone is subject to be called by Him.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਹੁਰੇ ਘਰ (ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਾਰੀ) ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੁਕਲਾਵੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
