ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥
santaa sangat man vasai parabh pareetam bakhsind.
In the Society of the Saints, the all merciful beloved God comes to dwell within the mind.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋਈ ਰਾਜ ਨਰਿੰਦੁ ॥੨॥
jin sayvi-aa parabh aapnaa so-ee raaj narind. ||2||
The person who has meditated God with love and devotion, (has obtained such pleasure, as if) that person has become the king of kings.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ l
ਅਉਸਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਣ ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
a-osar har jas gun raman jit kot majan isnaan.
When we sing the praises of God, it feels like bathing at millions of holy places.
ਜਿਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਏ, (ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਸਨਾ ਉਚਰੈ ਗੁਣਵਤੀ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪੁਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
rasnaa uchrai gunvatee ko-ay na pujai daan.
No charity equals the merits of singing God’s praises.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਨ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
darisat Dhaar man tan vasai da-i-aal purakh miharvaan.
Blessing us with His Glance of Grace, the Kind and Compassionate All-mighty God comes to dwell within the mind and body.
ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਧਨੁ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਹਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
jee-o pind Dhan tis daa ha-o sadaa sadaa kurbaan. ||3||
This soul, body and wealth are His. Forever and ever, I dedicate myself to Him.
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ, ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ, ਇਹ ਧਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ l
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਜੋ ਮੇਲਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
mili-aa kaday na vichhurhai jo mayli-aa kartaar.
One whom the Creator unites with Himself shall never again be separated.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦਾ।
ਦਾਸਾ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਟਿਆ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿ ॥
daasaa kay banDhan kati-aa saachai sirjanhaar.
The True Creator has snapped the bonds of worldly entanglements of his devotees.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭੂਲਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
bhoolaa maarag paa-i-on gun avgun na beechaar.
The person who had gone astray, has been put on the right spiritual path by God, without considering his merits and demerits.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਭੀ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਔਗੁਣ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਜਿ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੮੮॥
naanak tis sarnaagatee je sagal ghataa aaDhaar. ||4||18||88||
O’ Nanak, seek the Sanctuary of the One who is the Support of every heart.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the Fifth Guru:
ਰਸਨਾ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
rasnaa sachaa simree-ai man tan nirmal ho-ay.
By lovingly meditating on God’s Name, our mind and body become immaculate.
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਾਕ ਅਗਲੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
maat pitaa saak aglay tis bin avar na ko-ay.
We may have our mother, father, and numerous other relations, but none other than God will stand by us.
ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਆਦਿਕ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਸਾਕ-ਅੰਗ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਸਾ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
mihar karay jay aapnee chasaa na visrai so-ay. ||1||
If God Himself bestows His Mercy, one does not forget Him even for an instant.
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ l
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਸਾਸੁ ॥
man mayray saachaa sayv jichar saas.
O’ my mind, meditate on the True One, as long as you have the breath of life.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਭ ਕੂੜੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin sachay sabh koorh hai antay ho-ay binaas. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without the True One, everything is false; in the end, all shall perish.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
saahib mayraa nirmalaa tis bin rahan na jaa-ay.
My Master is Immaculate; without Him, I cannot even survive.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੁਖ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਮਾਇ ॥
mayrai man tan bhukh at aglee ko-ee aan milaavai maa-ay.
O’ my mother, within my mind and body, there is an intense desire that someone may come and unite me with Him.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੜਪ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ)ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲੀਆ ਸਹ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
chaaray kundaa bhaalee-aa sah bin avar na jaa-ay. ||2||
I have searched everywhere, I see no support other than God.
ਮੈਂ ਚਾਰੇ ਕੂਟਾਂ ਭਾਲ ਵੇਖੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ l
ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੋ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
tis aagai ardaas kar jo maylay kartaar.
Offer your prayers to the true Guru, who can unite you with the Creator.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ!) ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ (ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ॥
satgur daataa naam kaa pooraa jis bhandaar.
The True Guru is the Giver of Naam; whose Treasure is full and never ending.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਮ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦਾ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਅਮੁੱਕ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
sadaa sadaa salaahee-ai ant na paaraavaar. ||3||
Forever and ever, praise the One, who has no end or limitation.
ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਲਤ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
parvardagaar salaahee-ai jis day chalat anayk.
We should sing the praise of the Cherisher; whose wonders are innumerable.
ਉਸ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕੌਤਕ (ਦਿੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਏਹਾ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਸੇਖ ॥
sadaa sadaa aaraaDhee-ai ayhaa mat visaykh.
Forever and ever, we should meditate on God’s Name, this is the superb wisdom.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਅਕਲ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮਿਠਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੮੯॥
man tan mithaa tis lagai jis mastak naanak laykh. ||4||19||89||
O’ Nanak, God’s Name is pleasing to the mind and body of that person in whose destiny it is so written.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਉੱਘੜ ਪਏ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the Fifth Guru:
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਹੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
sant janhu mil bhaa-eeho sachaa naam samaal.
O’ my saintly brothers, get together and enshrine the True Naam in your heart,
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਭਰਾਵੋ! (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ,
ਤੋਸਾ ਬੰਧਹੁ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
tosaa banDhhu jee-a kaa aithai othai naal.
for the journey of the soul, gather the wealth of which will be with you in this world and God’s court.
ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਖ਼ਰਚ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੋ। ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਤੋਸ਼ਾ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਏਗਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥
gur pooray tay paa-ee-ai apnee nadar nihaal.
It is obtained from the Perfect Guru, when God bestows His Glance of Grace.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਤੋਸ਼ਾ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ॥੧॥
karam paraapat tis hovai jis no hou-ay da-i-aal. ||1||
Those unto whom He is Merciful, receive His Grace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mayray man gur jayvad avar na ko-ay.
O’ my mind, there is no other as great as the Guru.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਜੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ (ਉੱਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜਾ ਥਾਉ ਨ ਕੋ ਸੁਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
doojaa thaa-o na ko sujhai gur maylay sach so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Except the guru, I cannot imagine anyone else who can unite me with God.
ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
sagal padaarath tis milay jin gur dithaa jaa-ay.
Having a glimpse of the Guru (following the Guru’s teachings) is like obtaining all the worldly treasures.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ (ਸਮਝੋ)।
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਮਨੁ ਲਗਾ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
gur charnee jin man lagaa say vadbhaagee maa-ay.
O’ my mother, those persons are very fortunate whose mind is attuned to the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
gur daataa samrath gur gur sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ay.
The Guru, (who is the embodiment of God), is the benefactor, is all powerful and pervades in all human beings.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਲਏ ਤਰਾਇ ॥੨॥

The Guru is the manifestation of the supreme God, and the transcendent Master, and only Guru can save those who are drowning in this world-ocean of vices.
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਕਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
kit mukh gur salaahee-ai karan kaaran samrath.
How shall I praise the Guru, the All-powerful Cause of causes?
ਮੈਂ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਰੀਫ ਕਰਾਂ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਯੋਗ ਹਨ।
ਸੇ ਮਥੇ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਰਹੇ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹਥੁ ॥
say mathay nihchal rahay jin gur Dhaari-aa hath.
They, whom the Guru has has blessed and protected, remain calm and stable.
ਉਹ ਮੱਥੇ (ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ) ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੀਆਲਿਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਾ ਪਥੁ ॥
gur amrit naam pee-aali-aa janam maran kaa path.
God’s Name is the cure for the malady of birth and death. Those whom the Guru has given the Ambrosial Nectar of God’s Name, Naam,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ-ਰੂਪ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਪਰਹੇਜ਼ ਹੈ l ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਪਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਲਥੁ ॥੩॥
gur parmaysar sayvi-aa bhai bhanjan dukh lath. ||3||
they follow the teachings of the Guru (the embodiment of God), who is the destroyer of fear and dispeller of sorrows.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ-ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ, ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
