ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵੈਸੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
maal joban chhod vaisee rahi-o painan khaa-i-aa.
Abandoning your wealth and youth, you will have to leave, without any food or clothing.
ਇਹ ਧਨ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਏਗਾ, ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਪਹਿਨਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੁਲਿਆ ਨਹ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
naanak kamaanaa sang juli-aa nah jaa-ay kirat mitaa-i-aa. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only the earning of good and bad deeds goes along in the end; the consequences of deeds cannot be erased. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਚੰਗਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕੱਠ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਫਾਥੋਹੁ ਮਿਰਗ ਜਿਵੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਇਣੁ ॥
faathohu mirag jivai paykh rain chandraa-in.
O’ mortal, just like a deer runs towards an artificial light mistaking it as moonlight and gets killed, similarly you are getting trapped in the web of Maya by the glare of worldly things .
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਰਨ ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਚੰਦ ਵਰਗਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਿਸ਼ਕ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਸੂਖਹੁ ਦੂਖ ਭਏ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਇਣੁ ॥
sookhahu dookh bha-ay nit paap kamaa-in.
The pleasures and comforts, for the sake of which you commit sins every day, turn into pains and sorrows.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਤੂੰ ਫਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਪਾਪਾ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਛਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਘਤਿ ਗਲਾਵਿਆ ॥
paapaa kamaanay chhadeh naahee lai chalay ghat galaavi-aa.
O’ Mortal, you don’t stop committing sins because you don’t remember that soon you will be facing the demon of death.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਤੂੰ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨੇ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਚੇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਗਲਾਵਾਂ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੇਜਾ ਰਾਵਿਆ ॥
harichand-uree daykh moothaa koorh sayjaa raavi-aa.
You are being deceived by the illusion of imaginary heaven in the sky; you are enjoying the false worldly comforts.
ਤੂੰ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਿਆਲੀ ਨਗਰੀ (ਵਰਗੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਠੱਗਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਠੱਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਸੇਜ ਨੂੰ (ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ) ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਗਰਬਿ ਭਇਆ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ॥
lab lobh ahaNkaar maataa garab bha-i-aa samaa-in.
Engrossed in delicacies, greed and ego, you are consumed in self-conceit.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਤੂੰ ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ ਵਿਚ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਨਹ ਮਿਟੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਇਣੁ ॥੨॥
naanak marig agi-aan binsay nah mitai aavan jaa-in. ||2||
O’ Nanak, like the deer, human beings are perishing due to their ignorance; their cycles of birth and death do not end. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਮਿਠੈ ਮਖੁ ਮੁਆ ਕਿਉ ਲਏ ਓਡਾਰੀ ॥
mithai makh mu-aa ki-o la-ay odaaree.
A house-fly stuck in the molasses can’t fly away,
ਗੁੜ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਮੱਖੀ ਗੁੜ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉੱਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਹਸਤੀ ਗਰਤਿ ਪਇਆ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
hastee garat pa-i-aa ki-o taree-ai taaree.
An elephant lured into a pit by the paper statue of a female elephant cannot get out of it,
ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਟੋਏ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਦੀ ਹਥਣੀ ਖੜੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਹਾਥੀ ਉਸ ਟੋਏ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੱਚ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ਭਇਆ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥
taran duhaylaa bha-i-aa khin meh khasam chit na aa-i-o.
similarly a person engrossed in vices, does not remember God even for a moment and finds it difficult to swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਦੂਖਾ ਸਜਾਈ ਗਣਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
dookhaa sajaa-ee ganat naahee kee-aa apnaa paa-i-o.
His sufferings and punishments are beyond reckoning; he reaps the reward of his own deeds.
ਇਤਨੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਤਨੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪ ਭੁਗਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਝਾ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਈਤ ਉਤਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
gujhaa kamaanaa pargat ho-aa eet uteh khu-aaree.
His secret deeds are exposed and he is disgraced both here and hereafter.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਮ ਲੁਕ ਕੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉੱਘੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਬੇ-ਇੱਜ਼ਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਮੂਠਾ ਮਨਮੁਖੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
naanak satgur baajh moothaa manmukho ahaNkaaree. ||3||
O’ Nanak, without following the teachings of the true Guru, the self-willed egotist is deceived and loses his spiritual life to evils. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਲੁਟਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਜੀਵੇ ਲਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ॥
har kay daas jeevay lag parabh kee charnee.
God’s devotees live an exalted spiritual life by remaining attuned to God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ ॥
kanth lagaa-ay lee-ay tis thaakur sarnee.
They come to God’s refuge and He extends His support to them.
ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥
bal buDh gi-aan Dhi-aan apnaa aap naam japaa-i-aa.
God blesses them with His spiritual power, wisdom, knowledge to contemplate; He inspires them to meditate on His Name.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਬਲ, ਉੱਚੀ ਅਕਲ ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥
saaDhsangat aap ho-aa aap jagat taraa-i-aa.
He reveals Himself to them in the holy congregation and helps them cross the worldly ocean of vices.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਣੀ ॥
raakh lee-ay rakhanhaarai sadaa nirmal karnee.
The savior (God) Himself saves those whose deeds are always pure.
ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਮਲ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥
naanak narak na jaahi kabahooN har sant har kee sarnee. ||4||2||11||
O’ Nanak, for always being in God’s refuge, His devotees never experience the pain and suffering like hell. ||4||2||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਵੰਞੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਲਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ॥
vanj mayray aalsaa har paas baynantee.
Go away O’ my laziness: I make this prayer before God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਲਸ! ਚਲਾ ਜਾ. ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ
ਰਾਵਉ ਸਹੁ ਆਪਨੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ॥
raava-o saho aapnarhaa parabh sang sohantee.
By meditating and enshrine my Husband-God in my heart my life is getting embellished.
ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਗੇ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ਕੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣੀ ਰਾਵੀਐ ॥
sangay sohantee kant su-aamee dinas rainee raavee-ai.
We should meditate on Him day and night; the life of the soul-bride, who meditates on her husband-God, becomes beautiful.
ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੰਤ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਐ ॥
saas saas chitaar jeevaa parabh paykh har gun gaavee-ai.
I remain spiritually alive by remembering God with each and every breath; realizing His presence we should sing his praises.
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਰਹਾ ਲਜਾਇਆ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਮਿਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਿੰਚੰਤੀ ॥
birhaa lajaa-i-aa daras paa-i-aa ami-o darisat siNchantee.
When God showered me with His ambrosial nectar like glance; I realized His blessed presence and my separation from Him ended.
ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ) ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਸਿੰਜਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਖੋਜੰਤੀ ॥੧॥
binvant naanak mayree ichh punnee milay jis khojantee. ||1||
Nanak submits, my desire is fulfilled; I have met the One I was seeking. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੁਰਾਦ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਭਾਲ ਰਹੀ ਸਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਨਸਿ ਵੰਞਹੁ ਕਿਲਵਿਖਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
nas vanjahu kilvikhahu kartaa ghar aa-i-aa.
Run away O’ sins; I have now realized the Creator in my heart.
ਹੇ ਪਾਪੋ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮੇਰਾ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ (ਹੁਣ ਤੁਸੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਚਲੇ ਜਾਵੋ।
ਦੂਤਹ ਦਹਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ॥
dootah dahan bha-i-aa govind paragtaa-i-aa.
The demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego) are destroyed from the heart in which God becomes manifest.
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲਾਲਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
pargatay gupaal gobind laalan saaDhsang vakhaani-aa.
The beloved God reveals Himself in the heart of that person who sings His praises in the holy congregation.
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਚਰਜੁ ਡੀਠਾ ਅਮਿਉ ਵੂਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
aacharaj deethaa ami-o voothaa gur parsaadee jaani-aa.
One who realizes God by the Guru’s grace, observes a wonder, that the ambrosial nectar of Naam is raining down in his heart.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਨਹ ਅੰਤੁ ਜਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
man saaNt aa-ee vajee vaDhaa-ee nah ant jaa-ee paa-i-aa.
Peace prevails in his mind; he feels such an exalted state of mind the limits of which cannot be known.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਠੰਡ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਓੜਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
binvant naanak sukh sahj maylaa parabhoo aap banaa-i-aa. ||2||
Nanak submits, God Himself blesses us with intuitive peace and He Himself unites us with Him. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਰਕ ਨ ਡੀਠੜਿਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥
narak na deeth-rhi-aa simrat naaraa-in.
Those who meditate on the immaculate God never endure pain and suffering.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਣੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ।
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਭਏ ਪਲਾਇਣ ॥
jai jai Dharam karay doot bha-ay palaa-in.
The Righteous Judge applauds them, and the Messenger of Death runs away from them.
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜ (ਭੀ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਦੌੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਧਰਮ ਧੀਰਜ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ॥
Dharam Dheeraj sahj sukhee-ay saaDhsangat har bhajay.
By remembering God in the holy congregation, they acquire righteousness, contentment, poise and peace.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮ, ਧੀਰਜ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਭ ਤਜੇ ॥
kar anoograhu raakh leenay moh mamtaa sabh tajay.
Showing His mercy, God saves them from vices and they relinquish all their emotional attachments.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮੋਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੋਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਭ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਪਤ ਅਘਾਇਣ ॥
geh kanth laa-ay gur milaa-ay govind japat aghaa-in.
Those whom God unites with Himself through the Guru; by meditating on God’s Name, they do not yearn for worldly riches.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਬਾਹੋਂ) ਫੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਇਣ ॥੩॥
binvant naanak simar su-aamee sagal aas pujaa-in. ||3||
Nanak submits, They get all their hopes fulfilled by remembering God. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
