ਨਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੇ ਤਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਕਾੜਾ ॥
niDh siDh charan gahay taa kayhaa kaarhaa.
When one is in the refuge of God, the Master of all treasures and miraculous powers, then he has no fear of any kind,
ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਫੜ ਲਏ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ, ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫਿਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ,
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਿ ਜਿਸੈ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਸਾੜਾ ॥
sabh kichh vas jisai so parabhoo asaarhaa.
because He is our Master-God in whose control is everything.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਸਾਡੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ।
ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀਨੇ ਕਰੁ ਧਾਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥
geh bhujaa leenay naam deenay kar Dhaar mastak raakhi-aa.
God, whom He blesses with His Name and unites with Himself, saves him from the vices
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਾਹੋਂ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਅਮਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥
sansaar saagar nah vi-aapai ami-o har ras chaakhi-aa.
The world-ocean of worldly riches does not afflict the one who has relished the ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਣੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਅਖਾੜਾ ॥
saaDhsangay naam rangay ran jeet vadaa akhaarhaa.
In the holy congregation, imbued with God’s love, he is victorious against vices on the great battlefield of life.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਰਣ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਇਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਿੜ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜਮਿ ਨ ਉਪਾੜਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥
binvant naanak saran su-aamee bahurh jam na upaarhaa. ||4||3||12||
Nanak submits, the person who remains in the refuge of God is never troubled by the demon of death. ||4||3||12||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਜਮ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਖੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਕਮਾਇਅੜੋ ਸੋ ਆਇਓ ਮਾਥੈ ॥
din raat kamaa-i-arho so aa-i-o maathai.
Your past deeds become your future destiny.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਸਿ ਲੁਕਾਇਦੜੋ ਸੋ ਵੇਖੀ ਸਾਥੈ ॥
jis paas lukaa-id-rho so vaykhee saathai.
God, from whom you are trying to hide your actions is always with you witnessing these deeds .
ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮ) ਲੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਗਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਕਰਣਹਾਰਾ ਕਾਇ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥
sang daykhai karanhaaraa kaa-ay paap kamaa-ee-ai.
When the Creator is watching everything, then why should we commit any sin?
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਦ ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ,
ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੀਜੈ ਨਰਕਿ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
sukarit keejai naam leejai narak mool na jaa-ee-ai.
We should do good deeds and meditate on Naam so that we never have to endure hellish sufferings.
(ਸਗੋਂ) ਭਲਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈਦਾ।
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਚਲੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
aath pahar har naam simrahu chalai tayrai saathay.
Always meditate on God’s Name; it alone would go with you.
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਦੋਖ ਕਮਾਤੇ ॥੧॥
bhaj saaDhsangat sadaa naanak miteh dokh kamaatay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, always meditate on God’s name in the holy congregation; by doing so, sins committed in the past are erased.||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ (ਭਜਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਛਲੇ) ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਵਲਵੰਚ ਕਰਿ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
valvanch kar udar bhareh moorakh gaavaaraa.
O’ ignorant fool, you earn your living by deceitful means.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਹੇ ਗੰਵਾਰ! ਤੂੰ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਵਲ-ਛਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਪੇਟ ਭਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sabh kichh day rahi-aa har dayvanhaaraa.
The benefactor God continues to give everything to everyone.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਭੁੱਲ ਚੁਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਹਰੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ (ਸਭਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਾਇ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ॥
daataar sadaa da-i-aal su-aamee kaa-ay manhu visaaree-ai.
The beneficent God is always merciful; why should we forsake Him from our mind?
ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਭਜੁ ਨਿਸੰਗੇ ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹਾ ਤਾਰੀਐ ॥
mil saaDhsangay bhaj nisangay kul samoohaa taaree-ai.
Join the holy congregation and meditate on God without any hesitation; by doing so we can emancipate our entire lineage.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ -ਬੈਠ, ਝਾਕਾ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ, ਭਜਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਤਾਰ ਲਈਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਦੇਵ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਭਗਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
siDh saaDhik dayv mun jan bhagat naam aDhaaraa.
Naam is the only support of the ascetics, the seekers, the angels, the sages, and the devotees.
ਪੁੱਗੇ ਜੋਗੀ, ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ,ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤ-ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਭਜੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
binvant naanak sadaa bhajee-ai parabh ayk karnaihaaraa. ||2||
Nanak submits, we should always meditate on God, the only Creator. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਖੋਟੁ ਨ ਕੀਚਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਰਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
khot na keech-ee parabh parkhanhaaraa.
Do not practice deception because God Himself is the judge of all.
ਛਲ ਫਰੇਬ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ। ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਦੜੇ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
koorh kapat kamaavdarhay janmeh sansaaraa.
Those who practice falsehood and deceit are born again and again in this world.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਗਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਤਰਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
sansaar saagar tinHee tari-aa jinHee ayk Dhi-aa-i-aa.
Only those who have meditated on the one God, have crossed over the world-ocean of vices.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਨਿੰਦ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਆਇਆ ॥
taj kaam kroDh anind nindaa parabh sarnaa-ee aa-i-aa.
Renouncing lust, anger and slander of the virtuous, they have come to the refuge of God.
ਉਹ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਭਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਊਚ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
jal thal mahee-al ravi-aa su-aamee ooch agam apaaraa.
The profound, infinite, and incomprehensible Master who pervades all the waters, the lands and the skies,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਟੇਕ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
binvant naanak tayk jan kee charan kamal aDhaaraa. ||3||
is the support of His devotees; His immaculate Name is their only sustenance, submits Nanak. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਪੇਖੁ ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੜੀ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
paykh harichand-urrhee asthir kichh naahee.
Behold this world like an imaginary city in the sky where nothing is permanent.
ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ਿਆਲੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ, ਜ਼ਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਜੇਤੇ ਸੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
maa-i-aa rang jaytay say sang na jaahee.
The pleasures of Maya do not accompany anyone after death.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਮੌਜ-ਮੇਲੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਥੀ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ॥
har sang saathee sadaa tayrai dinas rain samaalee-ai.
God is your everlasting companion; always enshirine Him in your heart
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਏਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਛੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਾਉ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਜਾਲੀਐ ॥
har ayk bin kachh avar naahee bhaa-o dutee-aa jaalee-ai.
Without God there is none other who is eternal, therefore except God we should burn away the love of others.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਮਾਲੁ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
meet joban maal sarbas parabh ayk kar man maahee.
Know in your mind, that God alone is your friend, youth, wealth and everything.
ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਣ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਜੁਆਨੀ, ਤੇਰੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭ ਕੁੱਛ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੂਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੩॥
binvant naanak vadbhaag paa-ee-ai sookh sahj samaahee. ||4||4||13||
Nanak submits, by great good fortune we realize God and they who realize Him remain absorbed in peace and poise. ||4||4||13||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੩॥

There is only one eternal God and is realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਮਾਇਆ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੰਧ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉਹਲਾ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੰਧ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿੱਖਾ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਉਲਟੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗਹਬਰ ਬਨ ਘੋਰ ਗਹਬਰ ਬਨ ਘੋਰ ਹੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮੂਸਤ ਮਨ ਚੋਰ ਹੇ ਦਿਨਕਰੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਖਾਤ ॥

ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਇਕ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਘਣਾ ਜੰਗਲ ਹੈ; ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਘਣਾ ਜੰਗਲ ਹੈ, (ਇਥੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਨੂੰ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ) ਚੋਰ-ਮਨ ਲੁੱਟੀ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਸੂਰਜ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਮਾ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮੁਕਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਿਨ ਖਾਤ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਹਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਪਤੇ ॥
din khaat jaat bihaat parabh bin milhu parabh karunaa patay.
O’ merciful, Husband-God, please make me realize You; without meditating on You, the passing days are devouring my life.
ਹੇ ਤਰਸ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ। ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਉਮਰ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਭਜਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ,ਵਿਅਰਥ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
