ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਮਤਿਹੀਨੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਨੀਚੁ ॥
apraaDhee matiheen nirgun anaath neech.
O’ God, I am a sinner, devoid of any wisdom and virtues; I am helpless and vile.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਨਾਹਗਾਰ ਹਾਂ, ਅਕਲੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਹਾਂ, ਨਿਆਸਰਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੰਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਠ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਕੁਲਹੀਨੁ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਮੋਹ ਕੀਚੁ ॥
sath kathor kulheen bi-aapat moh keech.
I am evil and merciless; I am from low social status and entangled in the filth of emotional attachment.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ, ਬੇ-ਤਰਸ ਹਾਂ, ਨੀਵੀਂ ਕੁਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਬਾਉ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਲ ਭਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਅਹੰ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਰਣੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥
mal bharam karam ahaN mamtaa maran cheet na aav-ay.
I am struck in the filth of deeds leading to doubt, ego and worldly attachment; the thought of death does not even enter my mind.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਮਮਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੌਤ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਬਨਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਲਪਟਾਵਏ ॥
banitaa binod anand maa-i-aa agi-aantaa laptaav-ay.
Because of ignorance, I cling to the pleasures of woman and the joys of Maya.
ਮੈਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਚੋਜ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੌਜ-ਮੇਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹਾਂ), ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਖਿਸੈ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਬਧੈ ਜਰੂਆ ਦਿਨ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੀਚੁ ॥
khisai joban baDhai jaroo-aa din nihaaray sang meech.
My youth is wearing way, old age is creeping and the demon of death is looking forward to the day of my death.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਢਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਬੁਢੇਪਾ ਵਧ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਮੌਤ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ) ਦਿਨ ਤੱਕ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਾਖੁ ਨੀਚੁ ॥੨॥
binvant naanak aas tayree saran saaDhoo raakh neech. ||2||
Nanak prays, O’ God, You are my only hope; please keep me, the lowly person in the Guru’s refuge. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨੀਚ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਰੱਖ ॥੨॥
ਭਰਮੇ ਜਨਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਹਾ ਜੋਨ ॥
bharmay janam anayk sankat mahaa jon.
I have wandered through countless births, suffering terrible pain in these lives.
ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਕਈ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਹਨ।
ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੀਠੇ ਭੋਗ ਸੋਨ ॥
lapat rahi-o tih sang meethay bhog son.
I have been clinging to the pleasing joys of material things.
ਧਨ ਤੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਭਾਰ ਅਗਨਤ ਆਇਓ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸਹ ਧਾਇਓ ॥
bharmat bhaar agnat aa-i-o baho pardayseh Dhaa-i-o.
I have been wandering through many births carrying the load of sins.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਰਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਦੌੜ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ (ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ)।
ਅਬ ਓਟ ਧਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਓ ॥
ab ot Dhaaree parabh muraaree sarab sukh har naa-i-o.
O’ God, now I have taken Your refuge and have found total peace in Your Name.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੁਝ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਆ ਹੋਨ ॥
raakhanhaaray parabh pi-aaray mujh tay kachhoo na ho-aa hon.
O’ my Beloved God, the savior, I could do nothing by myself, nor I will be able to do anything to cross the world-ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਖਿਅਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਥੋਂ ਹੁਣ ਤਕ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ, ਅਗਾਂਹ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇਗਾ।
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਰੈ ਭਉਨ ॥੩॥
sookh sahj aanand naanak kirpaa tayree tarai bha-un. ||3||
Nanak says, O’ God, one who is blessed with Your grace obtains peace, poise and bliss and swims across the dreadful world-ocean of vices. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨਾਮ ਧਾਰੀਕ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਭਗਤਹ ਸੰਸਾ ਕਉਨ ॥
naam Dhaareek uDhaaray bhagtah sansaa ka-un.
God has saved even those who pretended to be His devotees, so why should His true devotees have any doubt?
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਮਾਤਰ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ, ਸੱਚੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ।
ਜੇਨ ਕੇਨ ਪਰਕਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ॥
jayn kayn parkaaray har har jas sunhu sarvan.
By every means possible, listen to the Praises of God with your ears.
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ।
ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਬਾਨੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥
sun sarvan baanee purakh gi-aanee man niDhaanaa paavhay.
O’ wise person, listen to the praises of God with your ears, you would realize the treasure of Naam within your heart.
ਹੇ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਬੰਦੇ! ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਏਂਗਾ
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੇ ॥
har rang raatay parabh biDhaatay raam kay gun gaavhay.
Fortunate are those who are imbued with the love of the Creator-God and who sing the praises of God.
(ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੇਹੜੇ) ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਸੁਧ ਕਾਗਦ ਬਨਰਾਜ ਕਲਮਾ ਲਿਖਣ ਕਉ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਪਵਨ ॥
basuDh kaagad banraaj kalmaa likhan ka-o jay ho-ay pavan.
If the entire earth could become the paper, the entire vegetation the writing pen and the air the writer,
ਜੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਜੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਕਲਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਤੇ ਜੇ ਹਵਾ ਲਿਖਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਲਿਖਾਰੀ) ਬਣ ਜਾਏ,
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਰਣ ਸਰਨ ॥੪॥੫॥੮॥
bay-ant ant na jaa-ay paa-i-aa gahee naanak charan saran. ||4||5||8||
even then the entire virtues of the infinite God could not be written. O’ Nanak, I have taken the support of the immaculate Name of that God. ||4||5||8||
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਬੇਅੰਤਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੮॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਪੁਰਖ ਪਤੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ॥
purakh patay bhagvaan taa kee saran gahee.
Those who have sought the refuge of God, the Master of all beings,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਪਰਾਨ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਲਹੀ ॥
nirbha-o bha-ay paraan chintaa sagal lahee.
they have become fearless and all their anxieties have been removed.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਡਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਰਿਜਨ ਇਸਟ ਬੰਧਪ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
maat pitaa sut meet surijan isat banDhap jaani-aa.
They look upon God as their parents, children, friends and relatives.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਸੱਜਣ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਸਮਝ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਸੁ ਬਿਮਲ ਸੰਤ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
geh kanth laa-i-aa gur milaa-i-aa jas bimal sant vakhaani-aa.
The Guru has united them with God; God embraced them and these saints utter His immaculate praises.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਂਹ) ਫੜ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕਹੀ ॥
bay-ant gun anayk mahimaa keemat kachhoo na jaa-ay kahee.
God’s virtues and glories are infinite; His worth cannot be described at all.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਸ (ਦੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ) ਦਾ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਅਲਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥
parabh ayk anik alakh thaakur ot naanak tis gahee. ||1||
From His one intangible form, God has adopted myriads of tangible forms; He is an incomprehensible Master. O’ Nanak, saints are under His refuge . ||1||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਕ ਸਰੂਪ ਤੋਂ ਅਨੇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਨੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਹਾਈ ਆਪਿ ਭਏ ॥
amrit ban sansaar sahaa-ee aap bha-ay.
The world-ocean of vices becomes a pool of nectar for the one, whose helper is God Himself.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਹਾਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਏ ॥
raam naam ur haar bikh kay divas ga-ay.
One who enshrines God’s Name in the heart, his days of suffering due to love worldly riches end.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਤੁ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਆਵਣ ਸਭ ਰਹੇ ॥
gat bharam moh bikaar binsay jon aavan sabh rahay.
His doubts, worldly attachments and sins are erased and his rounds of births end.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਏ ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਧ ਅੰਚਲ ਗਹਿ ਰਹੇ ॥
agan saagar bha-ay seetal saaDh anchal geh rahay.
By holding on to the shelter of the Guru, this world which is otherwise full of sufferings due to vices becomes peaceful.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਜੈ ਜਏ ॥
govind gupaal da-i-aal sammrith bol saaDhoo har jai ja-ay.
Keep singing the praises of the merciful and all-powerful God by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੈ ਜੈਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ ॥੨॥
naanak naam Dhi-aa-ay pooran saaDhsang paa-ee param gatay. ||
O’ Nanak, supreme spiritual status is attained by meditating on Naam in the holy congregation. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
jah daykh-a-u tah sang ayko rav rahi-aa.
Wherever I look, there I behold God pervading everywhere.
ਮੈਂ ਜਿੱਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਵਾਸੀ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਲਹਿਆ ॥
ghat ghat vaasee aap virlai kinai lahi-aa.
God dwells in each and every heart but rare is the one who realizes this fact.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
jal thal mahee-al poor pooran keet hasat samaani-aa.
God is fully permeating all waters, lands and the sky; He equally pervades the tiniest insect and the mightiest elephant.
ਉਹ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕੀੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਥੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ।
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
aad antay maDh so-ee gur parsaadee jaani-aa.
God exists ln the beginning, in the middle and in the end; this is understood by the Guru’s Grace.
ਆਰੰਭ, ਅਖੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੀ ਹੈ।ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲੀਲਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਜਨਿ ਕਹਿਆ ॥
barahm pasri-aa barahm leelaa govind gun niDh jan kahi-aa.
This expanse belongs to God; He created the play of the world, only a rare humble devotee meditates on God, the treasure of virtues.
ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਖੇਡ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੩॥
simar su-aamee antarjaamee har ayk naanak rav rahi-aa. ||3||
O’ Nanak, meditate on God, the knower of hearts; He permeates everywhere . ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਆਈ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੇ ॥
din rain suhaavarhee aa-ee simrat naam haray.
Anytime, day or night becomes beautiful for a person when he meditates on God’s Name.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਰਾਤ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
