ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਏਕੁ ਤਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
chamatkaar pargaas dah dis ayk tah daristaa-i-aa.
God, the miracle of whose light is spread everywhere in the world, is revealed to the devotees.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਨੂਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੀ ਝਲਕ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ (ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪਇਅੰਪੈ ਚਰਣ ਜੰਪੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥
Nanak paiampai charan jampai bhagat vachal har birad aap banaya. ||4||3||6||
Nanak meditates on the immaculate Name of God and humbly submits that God Himself has set the tradition of loving His devotees. ||4||3||6||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਥਿਰੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਵਏ ॥
thir santan sohaag marai na jaav-ay.
The Master-God of the saints is eternal; He never dies or goes away.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਈ ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੁ ਸੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਾਵਏ ॥
jaa kai garihi har naahu so sad hee raav-ay.
The soul-bride in whose heart dwells husband-God, enjoys Him forever.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ਅਵਿਗਤੁ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਵਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ॥
avinaasee avigat so parabh sadaa navtan nirmalaa.
God is eternal, incomprehensible, forever young and immaculately pure.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਨਵੇਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
ਨਹ ਦੂਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ॥
nah door sadaa hadoor thaakur dah dis pooran sad sadaa.
God is not far away, He is always with us; He pervades in all directions, forever and ever.
ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦਸੀਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਭਾਵਏ ॥
paraanpat gat mat jaa tay pari-a pareet pareetam bhaav-ay.
God is the master of life of all beings, supreme spiritual state and wisdom is received from Him. The love of my beloved God is pleasing to me.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਚੰਗੀ ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਵਧਾਈਏ, ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਵਏ ॥੧॥
naanak vakhaanai gur bachan jaanai thir santan sohaag marai na jaav-ay. ||1||
Nanak says, God is realized through the Guru’s word; the Master-God of the fortunate saintl is eternal, He never dies or goes away. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਮ ਭਤਾਰੁ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਅਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ॥
jaa ka-o raam bhataar taa kai anad ghanaa.
State of supreme bliss prevails in the heart of a soul-bride who is blessed with the company of her Husband-God.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਖਵੰਤੀ ਸਾ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਬਣਾ ॥
sukhvantee saa naar sobhaa poor banaa.
That soul-bride lives a peaceful life and her perfect glory is preserved.
ਉਹ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਣੁ ਮਹਤੁ ਕਲਿਆਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਰਜਨੁ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ॥
maan mahat kali-aan har jas sang surjan so parabhoo.
She enjoys honor, respect and peace because the virtuous God is always with her, whose praises she always sings.
ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਦੈਵੀ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਊਨਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੂ ॥
sarab siDh nav niDh tit garihi nahee oonaa sabh kachhoo.
She attains total perfection and nine treasures of the world; there is no dearth of anything and everything is available to her.
ਉਸ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਘਾਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਧੁਰ ਬਾਨੀ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਥਿਰੁ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਬਣਾ ॥
maDhur baanee pireh maanee thir sohaag taa kaa banaa.
She speaks sweet words; she is respected by the Husband-God and she becomes eternally fortunate.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਦੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਭਾਗ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਰਾਮੁ ਭਤਾਰੁ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਅਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ॥੨॥
nanak vakhanai gur bachan jaanai jaa ko raam bhataar taa kai anad ghana. ||2||
Nanak says, through the Guru’s word she realizes her Husband-God; the soul-bride who has God as her Master enjoys immense bliss. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਆਉ ਸਖੀ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਸਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੀਐ ॥
aa-o sakhee sant paas sayvaa laagee-ai.
O’ my friend, come and let us go to the Guru and engage ourselves in devotional worship of God.
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀ! ਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਚੱਲੀਏ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਈਏ।
ਪੀਸਉ ਚਰਣ ਪਖਾਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗੀਐ ॥
peesa-o charan pakhaar aap ti-aagee-ai.
Let us renounce our ego, and perform the humble service of the Guru.
ਆਓ, ਆਪਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲੰਗਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਪੀਹੀਏ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਈਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡੀਏ।
ਤਜਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ਆਪੁ ਨਹ ਜਾਣਾਈਐ ॥
taj aap mitai santaap aap nah jaanaa-ee-ai.
By abandoning ego, the strife goes away; we should never display ourselves egotistically.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ (ਮਨ ਦਾ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਜਤਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀਜੈ ਮਾਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
saran gaheejai maan leejai karay so sukh paa-ee-ai.
We Should seek the Guru’s refuge, follow his teachings and be happy with whatever he does.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰੇ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸੀ ਤਜਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਾਗੀਐ ॥
kar daas daasee taj udaasee kar jorh din rain jaagee-ai.
Shedding all our gloom and deeming ourselves as humble servants of the Guru’s followers; with folded hands, we should always remain alert and ready to serve.
ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ, ਉਪਰਾਮਤਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਉ ਸਖੀ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਸਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੀਐ ॥੩॥
nanak vakhanai gur bachan jaanai aa-o sakhee sant paas sayvaa laagee-ai. ||3||
Nanak says, one can realize God through the Guru’s teachings, come O’ my friends, let us engage ourselves in the service of the Guru. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜੀਵ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸ ਚੱਲੀਏ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ਸਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
jaa kai mastak bhaag se sayvaa laa-i-aa.
Those who are so predestined, the Guru engages them to the devotional worship of God,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
taa kee pooran aas jinH saaDhsang paa-i-aa.
Those who are blessed with the holy congregation, all their desires are fulfilled.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਲਾਗਿਆ ॥
saaDhsang har kai rang gobind simran laagi-aa.
In the holy congregation, they immerse themself in God’s love and begin to meditate on Him.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਰਮੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ॥
bharam moh vikaar doojaa sagal tineh ti-aagi-aa.
They shed all their doubt, worldly attachment, vices and duality.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣਾ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਵਿਕਾਰ, ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਉਹ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵੂਠਾ ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
man saaNt sahj subhaa-o voothaa anad mangal gun gaa-i-aa.
Tranquility, spiritual stability and sublime love prevails in their minds; they sing the praises of God and enjoy the bliss.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ਸਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੭॥
naanak vakhaanai gur bachan jaanai jaa kai mastak bhaag se sayvaa laa-i-aa. ||4||4||7||
Nanak says, one can realize God through the Guru’s word; the Guru enjoins those to the devotional worship of God in whose destiny it is so written. |4|4|7|
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੭॥

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੰਤਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ॥
har har naam japanti-aa kachh na kahai jamkaal.
The fear of death does not bother the one who is always meditating on God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋਇ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੋਪਾਲੁ ॥੧॥
naanak man tan sukhee ho-ay antay milai gopaal. ||1||
O’ Nanak, by meditating on Naam, one’s body and mind attains peace and ultimately unites with God. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

ਮਿਲਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥
mila-o santan kai sang mohi uDhaar layho.
O’ God, bless me with the holy congregation and save me from the vices.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ॥
bin-o kara-o kar jorh har har naam dayh.
With folded hands, I pray to You to bless me with Your Name.
ਮੈਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗਉ ਮਾਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਦਇਆ ॥
har naam maaga-o charan laaga-o maan ti-aaga-o tumH da-i-aa.
O’ God, I beg You for Your Name; by Your kindness I wish to remain attuned to Your Name and eradicate my self-conceit.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਾਂ, (ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿਆਂ।
ਕਤਹੂੰ ਨ ਧਾਵਉ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਾਵਉ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥
katahooN na Dhaava-o saran paava-o karunaa mai parabh kar ma-i-aa.
O’ merciful God, show Your mercy so that I may remain in Your refuge and do not go anywhere else.
ਹੇ ਤਰਸ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਾਹ ਦੌੜਾਂ।
ਸਮਰਥ ਅਗਥ ਅਪਾਰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਿਨਉ ਏਹੁ ॥
samrath agath apaar nirmal sunhu su-aamee bin-o ayhu.
O’ all-powerful, unfathomable, infinite and immaculate Master, listen to this prayer of mine,
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਅਕੱਥ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ! ਹੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਸੁਣ।
ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥੧॥
kar jorh naanak daan maagai janam maran nivaar layho. ||1||
With folded hands, Nanak begs for this blessing: O’ God, please end my cycles of birth and death. ||1||
ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇ ॥੧॥
