ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੁਸਕਿ ਝਕੋਲਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨਾ ॥੧॥
jan naanak musak jhakoli-aa sabh janam Dhan Dhannaa. ||1||
God’s servant Nanak is soaked in the fragrance of Naam and his entire life has been extremely blessed.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੁਗੰਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਣੀਆਲੇ ਅਣੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
har paraym banee man maari-aa anee-aalay anee-aa raam raajay.
O’ God, Your sweet loving words have pierced my mind like a pointed arrow.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤ੍ਰਿੱਖੀ ਨੋਕ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੀਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਪੀਰ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਸੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਰੀਆ ॥
jis laagee peer piramm kee so jaanai jaree-aa.
Only the person who feel the pain of this love, know how to endure it.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਉੱਠਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਹਾਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਮਰੀਆ ॥
jeevan mukat so aakhee-ai mar jeevai maree-aa.
That person is called saved while alive who, while still living, becomes free from worldly attachments as if that person has come to life again after death.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਛੋਹ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਆ ॥੨॥
jan naanak satgur mayl har jag dutar taree-aa. ||2||
O’ God, please unite me, Your servant Nanak, with the true Guru so that I may cross over the terrifying world ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ (-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ
ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਮਿਲੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਰੰਗਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
ham moorakh mugaDh sarnaagatee mil govind rangaa raam raajay.
O’ God, please accept us, we the ignorant fools have come to Your shelter.
ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕੌਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ! (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ, ਅਸੀਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਇਕ ਮੰਗਾ ॥
gur poorai har paa-i-aa har bhagat ik mangaa.
It was through the Perfect Guru that I realized God, and I begged from Him only for His loving devotion.
ਮੈਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਅਨਤ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥
mayraa man tan sabad vigaasi-aa jap anat tarangaa.
By meditating on the Name of God, who is like an ocean with infinite waves, through the word of the Guru, my mind and body were delighted.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲਹਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਸਮੁੰਦਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਸੰਗਾ ॥੩॥
mil sant janaa har paa-i-aa naanak satsangaa. ||3||
O’ Nanak, I have realized God by meeting with the humble saints in the holy congregation.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
deen da-i-aal sun bayntee har parabh har raa-i-aa raam raajay.
O’ God, the merciful Master of the meek, please listen to my prayer.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ।
ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਸਰਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ha-o maaga-o saran har naam kee har har mukh paa-i-aa.
O’ God, I seek the refuge of Your Name. If You bestow Your grace, only then I can utter Your Name.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਜ ਰਖਾਇਆ ॥
bhagat vachhal har birad hai har laaj rakhaa-i-aa.
It is God’s nature that He loves His devotees and saves their honor.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਢ ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ, ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੫॥
jan naanak sarnaagatee har naam taraa-i-aa. ||4||8||15||
O’ God, Your servant Nanak has come to Your sanctuary, please unite me with Your Name and help me swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਭੀ) ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ

Raag Aasaa, Fourth Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਢੂੰਢਿ ਢੂਢੇਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਲਧਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
gurmukh dhoondh dhoodhaydi-aa har sajan laDhaa raam raajay.
After searching and seeking God through the Guru, I have found my friend, God, within myself.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਮਿੱਤਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟ ਗੜ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਧਾ ॥
kanchan kaa-i-aa kot garh vich har har siDhaa.
It feels as if this body of mine has become like a golden fortress, because of by Guru’s grace, God has become manifest in it.
ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਵਿਧਾ ॥
har har heeraa ratan hai mayraa man tan viDhaa.
God’s Name is precious like a jewel, a diamond; that has pierced my mind and body.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰਾ (ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਠੋਰ) ਮਨ (ਮੇਰਾ ਕਠੋਰ) ਹਿਰਦਾ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਨਰਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)।
ਧੁਰਿ ਭਾਗ ਵਡੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਸਿ ਗੁਧਾ ॥੧॥
Dhur bhaag vaday har paa-i-aa naanak ras guDhaa. ||1||
O’ Nanak, due to pre-ordained good fortune, I have realized God and I am saturated with the relish of God’s Name
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਧੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ l
ਪੰਥੁ ਦਸਾਵਾ ਨਿਤ ਖੜੀ ਮੁੰਧ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਬਾਲੀ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
panth dasaavaa nit kharhee munDh joban baalee raam raajay.
O’ my true Guru, like a young and naive bride, I always stand at your door-step asking the way to God’s abode.
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਜੋਬਨ-ਮੱਤੀ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਖਲੋਤੀ ਹੋਈ (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਦਾ) ਰਾਹ ਪੁਛਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਾਲੀ ॥
har har naam chaytaa-ay gur har maarag chaalee.
O’ my true Guru, help me remember God’s Name and bless me so that I follow the path leading to Him.
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ (ਦੇਸ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਾਂ।
ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਲੀ ॥
mayrai man tan naam aaDhaar hai ha-umai bikh jaalee.
The Name of God, is the Support of my mind and body; by virtue of which I may burn away the poison of ego.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਹਉਮੈ-ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿਆਂ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਬਨਵਾਲੀ ॥੨॥
jan naanak satgur mayl har har mili-aa banvaalee. ||2||
Nanak says, O’ God unite me with the true Guru. Whosoever has ever realized God has done so through the True Guru.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੁ ਮੈ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
gurmukh pi-aaray aa-ay mil mai chiree vichhunay raam raajay.
O’ my beloved God, I have been separated from You for so long, Please come and meet me through the Guru.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆ ਮਿਲ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬੈਰਾਗਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨੈਣ ਰਸਿ ਭਿੰਨੇ ॥
mayraa man tan bahut bairaagi-aa har nain ras bhinnay.
O’ God, I feel very lonesome in separation, and my eyes tear with the sublime essence of Your love.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਓਦਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੱਜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਦਸਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਨੇ ॥
mai har parabh pi-aaraa das gur mil har man mannay.
O’ God, Please lead me to the Guru so that by meeting him, my mind may get convinced about remembering You.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸ ਪਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਏ
ਹਉ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਈਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਮੇ ॥੩॥
ha-o moorakh kaarai laa-ee-aa naanak har kammay. ||3||
Nanak says, God has assigned a fool like me to His Service of remembering him with loving devotion
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ
ਗੁਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਿੰਨੀ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬੁਰਕੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
gur amrit bhinnee dayhuree amrit burkay raam raajay.
The Guru’s heart is full of divine love that he continues to inspire his disciples with it.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੱਜਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਇਹ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਛਿੜਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਛਕਿ ਛਕੇ ॥
jinaa gurbaanee man bhaa-ee-aa amrit chhak chhakay.
Those whose minds are pleased with the Word of the Guru, they relish this Ambrosial Nectar of God’s Name again and again.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣ ਮਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਤੁਠੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਚੂਕੇ ਧਕ ਧਕੇ ॥
gur tuthai har paa-i-aa chookay Dhak Dhakay.
As the Guru is pleased, I have realized God, and I shall not be pushed around any more.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧੱਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਣਗੇ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੇ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੬॥
har jan har har ho-i-aa naanak har ikay. ||4||9||16||
O’ Nanak, (by always remembering God’s Name) God’s devotee becomes the embodiment of God and becomes one with Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ

Raag Aasaa, Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
har amrit bhagat bhandaar hai gur satgur paasay raam raajay.
Only the true Guru has the treasure of Ambrosial Nectar of God’s devotion.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਖ ਦੇਇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸੇ ॥
gur satgur sachaa saahu hai sikh day-ay har raasay.
O’ God, the True Guru, is the eternal treasurer, who gives the commodity (of God’s Name) to his disciples.
ਇਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਭਗਤੀ-ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਵਣਜੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਬਾਸੇ ॥
Dhan Dhan vanjaaraa vanaj hai gur saahu saabaasay.
Truly blessed is the trader (devotee) who trades in this commodity of God’s Name. The Guru applauds that person who deals in this trade.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਵਣਜ ਹੈ, ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਲਾਟਿ ਲਿਖਾਸੇ ॥੧॥
jan naanak gur tinHee paa-i-aa jin Dhur likhat lilaat likhaasay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, they alone meet with the Guru, who have such preordained destiny.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਤੋਂ (ਇਸ ਸਰਮਾਏ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਧਣੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
sach saahu hamaaraa tooN Dhanee sabh jagat vanjaaraa raam raajay.
O’ God, You are our eternal treasurer and the entire world is Your trader.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਇਥੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਸਰਮਾਏ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਤੁਧੈ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਥਾਰਾ ॥
sabh bhaaNday tuDhai saaji-aa vich vasat har thaaraa.
O’ God, You have fashioned all these creatures and the life which dwells within them is also Yours.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਜਿੰਦ-ਵਸਤ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਾ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਕਿਆ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
jo paavahi bhaaNday vich vasat saa niklai ki-aa ko-ee karay vaychaaraa.
Whatever (vices or virtues) You place in these creatures, they alone come out. What can the poor creatures do?
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ (ਗੁਣ ਔਗੁਣ) ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉੱਘੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
