ਤਾ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਲਖਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
taa kay roop na jaahee lakh-nay ki-aa kar aakh veechaaree. ||2||
His forms cannot be comprehended; what can I say to describe and reflect on those? ||2||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ; ਮੈਂ ਕੀਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੱਸਾਂ? ॥੨॥
ਤੀਨਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਖਾਣੀ ॥
teen gunaa tayray jug hee antar chaaray tayree-aa khaanee.
O’ God, in this world all the three modes of Maya and the four basic modes of creation have been fashioned by You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ-ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਰਚੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
karam hovai taa param pad paa-ee-ai kathay akath kahaanee. ||3||
Only when You show Your Mercy, then we attain the supreme spiritual status and are able to talk about Your indescribable praises and virtues. ||3||
ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਕੱਥ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
tooN kartaa kee-aa sabh tayraa ki-aa ko karay paraanee.
You are the Creator, all are created by You; what can any human being do?
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਅਪਣੀ ਸਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥
jaa ka-o nadar karahi tooN apnee saa-ee sach samaanee. ||4||
Only that person on whom You cast Your glance of grace merges in You. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਲੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੀ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
naam tayraa sabh ko-ee layt hai jaytee aavan jaanee.
O’ God, the entire world is subject to the cycles of birth and death; in his own way, everyone is meditating on Your Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਆਵਾਗਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਆਣੀ ॥੫॥
jaa tuDh bhaavai taa gurmukh boojhai hor manmukh firai i-aanee. ||5||
But only when it pleases You, then a Guru’s follower realizes You; all other self-conceited ignorant people keep wandering around. ||5||
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l ਹੋਰ ਆਪ ਹੁਦਰੇ ਇਞਾਣੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ॥੫॥
ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
chaaray vayd barahmay ka-o dee-ay parh parh karay veechaaree.
God let Brahma compile the four Vedas and he kept on reading and reflecting on these,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਰਚੇ), ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
taa kaa hukam na boojhai bapurhaa narak surag avtaaree. ||6||
poor Brahma could not realize that accepting God’s will is the right way of life and kept wandering in thoughts about transmigrations in hell and heaven. ||6||
ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ॥੬॥
ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗਹ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੀਏ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥
jugah jugah kay raajay kee-ay gaavahi kar avtaaree.
In each era, God created great men, whom people have been praising as incarnations of God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਯੁੱਗ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
tin bhee ant na paa-i-aa taa kaa ki-aa kar aakh veechaaree. ||7||
Even they could not find the limit of God’s virtues; what can I say to reflect on His virtues. ||7||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ, ਮੈਂ (ਵਿਚਾਰਾ) ਕੀਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ॥੭॥
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
tooN sachaa tayraa kee-aa sabh saachaa deh ta saach vakhaanee.
O‘ God, You are eternal and Your creation is the evidence of Your eternal form, If You bless me with Naam, only then I can recite Your eternal Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਹਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੨੩॥
jaa ka-o sach bujhaaveh apnaa sehjay naam samaanee. ||8||1||23||
O’ God, one whom You bless the intellect to meditate on Your eternal Name, intuitively he remains merged in Your Name. ||8||1||23||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੨੩॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Third Guru:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਮਰਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
satgur hamraa bharam gavaa-i-aa.
The True Guru has ended my doubts.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
har naam niranjan man vasaa-i-aa.
and has enshrined the immaculate Name of God within my mind.
ਤੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sabad cheen sadaa sukh paa-i-aa. ||1||
Now by reflecting on the Guru’s word I have attained everlasting peace. ||1||
ਹੁਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sun man mayray tat gi-aan.
O’ my mind, listen to the essence of divine knowledge,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਅਸਲੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ,
ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dayvan vaalaa sabh biDh jaanai gurmukh paa-ee-ai naam niDhaan. ॥੧॥ rahaa-o.
God has the power to give anything to anybody but the treasure of Naam is attained only by following the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਢੰਗ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satgur bhaytay kee vadi-aa-ee.
The glory of meeting the true Guru and following his teaching is,
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਹੈ,,
ਜਿਨਿ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
jin mamtaa agan tarisnaa bujhaa-ee.
that my ferocious desires for worldly wealth and attachments is quenched,
ਕਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥
sehjay maataa har gun gaa-ee. ||2||
and now imbued with peace and poise, I sing the Praises of God. ||2||
ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
vin gur pooray ko-ay na jaanee.
No one can understand the essence of divine knowledge without meeting and following the perfect Guru’s teachings.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਾਰੇ ਤੱਤ-ਗਿਆਨ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਣੀ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi doojai lobhaanee.
Because without the Guru’s teachings, one remains engrossed in worldly attachment and greed for other things.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
gurmukh naam milai har banee. ||3||
It is only through the Guru that one receives God’s Name and realizes the worth of the divine words of God’s praises. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਦੀ ਕਦਰ) ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਪਾਂ ਸਿਰਿ ਤਪੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
gur sayvaa tapaaN sir tap saar.
Serving the Guru by following his teachings is the most sublime of all penances.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਤਪ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
har jee-o man vasai sabh dookh visaaranhaar.
One realizes God dwelling in his heart who is the dispeller of all sorrows.
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥
dar saachai deesai sachiaar. ||4||
And such a person looks truly honored in God’s presence . ||4||
ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur sayvaa tay taribhavan sojhee ho-ay.
By following the Guru’s teachings, one comes to know about the three worlds,
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਜਹਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
aap pachhaan har paavai so-ay.
and then by recognizing his own self, he realizes God.
ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
saachee banee mahal paraapat ho-ay. ||5||
Thus through the Guru’s divine words, he unites with God||5||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥=
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
gur sayvaa tay sabh kul uDhaaray.
One saves his entire lineage from the vices by following the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
nirmal naam rakhai ur Dhaaray.
if one Keeps the Immaculate Naam enshrined in the heart;
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰੋ ਕੇ ਰੱਖੇ,
ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਾਚਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੬॥
saachee sobhaa saach du-aaray. ||6||
then he is adorned with true glory in God’s presence. ||6||
ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਟਿਕਵੀਂ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
say vadbhaagee je gur sayvaa laa-ay.
Very fortunate are those, whom the Guru has engaged to the devotional service.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
an-din bhagat sach naam drirh-aa-ay.
The Guru always engages them to devotional worship and implants God’s Name within them.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਸਬਾਏ ॥੭॥
naamay uDhray kul sabaa-ay. ||7||
By meditating on Naam, all their generations are saved from the vices. ||7||
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
naanak saach kahai veechaar.
Nanak says this absolutely true thought,
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਅਟੱਲ (ਨਿਯਮ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
har kaa naam rakhahu ur Dhaar.
that always keep God’s Name enshrined in your heart.
ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੮॥੨॥੨੪॥
har bhagtee raatay mokh du-aar. ||8||2||24||
Those imbued with God’s loving devotion are liberated from the cycles of birth and death.||8||2||24||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੨॥੨੪॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Third Gurul:
ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
aasaa aas karay sabh ko-ee.
Everyone lives by cherishing hope upon hope.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਸਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਸਾਂ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
hukmai boojhai niraasaa ho-ee.
But one who understands God’s will, becomes detached from the worldly desires.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਤੇ ਕਈ ਲੋਈ ॥
aasaa vich sutay ka-ee lo-ee.
So many people are asleep (entangled) in the false worldly hopes.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਆਸਾਂ (ਦੇ ਜਾਲ) ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੱਤੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਾਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥
so jaagai jaagaavai so-ee. ||1||
Only that person wakes up from this sleep whom God Himself awakens. ||1||
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਜਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
satgur naam bujhaa-i-aa vin naavai bhukh na jaa-ee.
One whom the true Guru has fully made aware of meditation on Naam, knows that without Naam the yearning for worldly things does not go away.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਸਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ। ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
