ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਾਣ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
ja-o lag jee-o paraan sach Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
As long as there is the breath of life, one should meditate on the eternal God.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ (ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਹਨ (ਤਦ ਤਕ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
laahaa har gun gaa-ay milai sukh paa-ee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One who sings the praises of God is blessed with celestial peace. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਲਾਭ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਾਰ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਤੂੰ ॥
sachee tayree kaar deh da-i-aal tooN.
O’ merciful God, bless me with Your devotional worship, which is truly perfect.
ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਇਹ ਕਾਰ ਐਸੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਤੂੰ ॥੨॥
ha-o jeevaa tuDh saalaahi mai tayk aDhaar tooN. ||2||
I remain spiritually alive by singing Your praises; You are my only support and mainstay. ||2||
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਮੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਲਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਰਵਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹੀ ॥
dar sayvak darvaan darad tooN jaanhee.
O’ God, You know about the pain and suffering of the one who comes to Your refuge like a true servant.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰ ਮੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਦਿਲ) ਦਾ ਦੁਖ-ਦਰਦ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੈਰਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੀ ॥੩॥
bhagat tayree hairaan darad gavaavhee. ||3||
How wonderful is Your devotional worship! It removes all pains. ||3||
ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਈ ਭਗਤੀ-ਸੇਵਾ ਇਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਪੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣਸੀ ॥
dargeh naam hadoor gurmukh jaansee. .
Only a Guru’s follower knows that meditation on Naam in His presence is approved by God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ -ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਸੀ ॥੪॥
vaylaa sach parvaan sabad pachhaansee. ||4||
Fruitful and acceptable is life of a person who realizes God by following the Guru’s word. ||4||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਮਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ, ਕਬੂਲ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਉ ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇਇ ॥
sat santokh kar bhaa-o tosaa har naam say-ay.
Those who practice truth, contentment and love in life and meditate on God’s Name,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁਖ ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਰਚ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਨਹੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ॥੫॥
manhu chhod vikaar sachaa sach day-ay. ||5||
they banish the evil impulses of the mind and the eternal God blesses them with His eternal Name. ||5||
ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sachay sachaa nayhu sachai laa-i-aa.
The eternal God imbues someone with His love on His own.
(ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
aapay karay ni-aa-o jo tis bhaa-i-aa. ||6||
He Himself administers justice, as it pleases Him. ||6||
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣੀ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹੀ ਨਿਆਂ ਹੈ) ॥੬॥
ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ॥
sachay sachee daat deh da-i-aal hai.
O’ God, You are always merciful on beings, please bless me with the gift of Your eternal Name,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਹ l
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
tis sayvee din raat naam amol hai. ||7||
Day and night, I meditate on that God whose Name is priceless. ||7|| |
ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਤੂੰ ਉਤਮੁ ਹਉ ਨੀਚੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਆ ॥
tooN utam ha-o neech sayvak kaaNdhee-aa.
You are sublime and I am a lowly person, even then I am called Your servant.
ਤੂੰ ਉੱਤਮ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨੀਚ ਹਾਂ (ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ) ਸੇਵਕ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਹੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਂਢੀਆ ॥੮॥੨੧॥
naanak nadar karayhu milai sach vaaNdhee-aa. ||8||21||
O’ God, please cast Your glance of grace on Nanak, so that he, the separated one, may receive Your eternal Name and become reunited with You. ||8||21||
ਹੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ। ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ)ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ॥੮॥੨੧॥

Raag Aasaa, First Gurul:
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
aavan jaanaa ki-o rahai ki-o maylaa ho-ee.
How can human being’s cycle of birth and death end ? How may one realize God?
ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਆਵਾਗਉਣ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਮੁਕ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਨਿਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੋਈ ॥੧॥
janam maran kaa dukh ghano nit sahsaa do-ee. ||1||
Immense is the pain of births and deaths and one keeps agonizing because of duality and love for Maya. ||1||
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਤ ਸਹਮ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਫਿਟੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
bin naavai ki-aa jeevnaa fit Dharig chaturaa-ee.
Life without meditation on Naam is not worth living; despicable and accursed is the worldly cleverness,
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਜੋ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਅਸਲ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਫਿੱਟੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਣਤ ਹੈ ਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਉਤੇ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur saaDh na sayvi-aa har bhagat na bhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
if one does not serve and follow the true Saint-Guru’s teachings and if God’s devotional worship does not become pleasing to him. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
aavan jaavan ta-o rahai paa-ee-ai gur pooraa.
The cycles of births and deaths ends only when one meets the perfect Guru and follow his teachings.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਦੇਇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕੂਰਾ ॥੨॥
raam naam Dhan raas day-ay binsai bharam kooraa. ||2||
The Guru blesses that one with the wealth of God’s Name because of which his false doubt of worldly wealth vanishes. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਰੂਪ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਝੂਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਏ ॥
sant janaa ka-o mil rahai Dhan Dhan jas gaa-ay.
One who Joins the company humble Saints, always thanks God and sings His praises,
ਜੋ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
aad purakh apramparaa gurmukh har paa-ay. ||3||
that Guru’s follower realizes God, the Infinite and Primal Being. ||3||
ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨਟੂਐ ਸਾਂਗੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
natoo-ai saaNg banaa-i-aa baajee sansaaraa.
This world, like the show of a buffoon, is a short lived play.
ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਟਕ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ,
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਉਝਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
khin pal baajee daykhee-ai ujhrat nahee baaraa. ||4||
For a moment or so, the show is seen but it disappears in no time at all. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਘੜੀ ਪਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਜੜਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥੪॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਖੇਲਣਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
ha-umai cha-uparh khaylnaa jhoothay ahaNkaaraa.
Engrossed in ego people are playing the game of life, as if they are playing a board game with the pieces of falsehood and ego,
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ, ਝੂਠ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਰਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਾਰੈ ਸੋ ਜਿਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
sabh jag haarai so jinai gur sabad veechaaraa. ||5||
the entire world is losing in this game of life; only that person wins who reflects on the Guru’s word and acts accordingly. ||5||
ਤੇ ਇੰਜ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ; ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਜਿੱਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਹਥਿ ਟੋਹਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥
ji-o anDhulai hath tohnee har naam hamaarai.
As is the staff in the hand of a blind person, so is God’s Name for me.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਡੰਗੋਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਉਤ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੬॥
raam naam har tayk hai nis da-ut savaarai. ||6||
God’s Name is light for the darkness of my spiritual ignorance; God’s name is such a support which helps me day and Night. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਤ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ) ਲਈ ਸਵੇਰ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ l ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੬॥
ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
ji-o tooN raakhahi ti-o rahaa har naam aDhaaraa.
O’ God, with the support of Your Name, I can live as You keep me.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾ, ਜਿਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਖੇਂ।
ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੭॥
ant sakhaa-ee paa-i-aa jan mukat du-aaraa. ||7||
Your humble servant has realized Naam, which helps in the end and liberates him from vices and the cycles of birth and death. ||7||
ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ॥੭॥
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
janam maran dukh mayti-aa jap naam muraaray.
The pain from the cycles of birth and death can be erased by meditating on God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੨੨॥
naanak naam na veesrai pooraa gur taaray. ||8||22||
O Nanak, those who do not forget Naam, the perfect Guru ferries them across the word-ocean of vices. ||8||22||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੨੨॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਸਤੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਚਰਣ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
saasat bayd simrit sar tayraa sursaree charan samaanee.
O’ God, meditating on Your Name is like acquiring the wisdom all the Shastras, Vedas and Simrities and attuning to Your Name is like taking a bath in Ganges.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਸਰੋਵਰ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਵੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨਤਾ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਗੰਗਾ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ) ਹੈ।
ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
saakhaa teen mool mat raavai tooN taaN sarab vidaanee. ||1||
O’ God, You are the master of this astounding world and the creator of the three pronged Maya; my intellect remains enjoying the bliss of remembering You. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੇਰੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ (ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਦੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਮਾਣਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taa kay charan japai jan naanak bolay amrit banee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Servant Nanak utters the ambrosial word of God’s praises and meditates on His Name. ||1||Pause||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥
taytees karorhee daas tumHaaray riDh siDh paraan aDhaaree.
O’ God, all the so called millions of gods are Your servants; You are the bestower of all the miracles, supernatural powers and life breaths.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਤੇਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਵੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
