ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਅਸਨਾਹਾ ॥੧॥
putar kaltar garih sagal samagree sabh mithi-aa asnaahaa. ||1||
The love of son, wife and worldly possessions is false and short lived.||1||
ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਘਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਹੈ ਹਾ ਹਾ ॥
ray man ki-aa karahi hai haa haa.
O’ my mind, why are you getting excited seeing all these things ?
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਕੀਹ ਆਹਾ ਆਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darisat daykh jaisay harichand-uree ik raam bhajan lai laahaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
See with your eyes and realize, that all this expanse is short lived like a mountain of smoke; so in this life earn the profit of meditation on God. ||1||Pause||
ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਧੂੰਏਂ ਦੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ, (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਦੇਹ ਓਢਾਨੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੋਇ ਚਾਰਿ ਭੋਰਾਹਾ ॥
jaisay bastar dayh odhaanay din do-ay chaar bhoraahaa.
Worldly expanse is just like clothes worn on the body which wear off in few days.
(ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਪਸਾਰਾ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਹਿਨੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦੋ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭੀਤਿ ਊਪਰੇ ਕੇਤਕੁ ਧਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਿ ਓਰਕੋ ਆਹਾ ॥੨॥
bheet oopray kaytak Dhaa-ee-ai ant orko aahaa. ||2||
How long one can run on a wall, ultimately it ends? similarly one day we reach the end of our pre allotted breaths. ||2||
ਕੰਧ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਦੌੜ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ? ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲਾ ਸਿਰਾ ਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਮੁੱਕ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੨॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਅੰਭ ਕੁੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਪਰਤ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਹਾ ॥
jaisay amb kund kar raakhi-o parat sinDh gal jaahaa.
Just as a piece of rock-salt melts away in an instant when put in a tank of water,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਹੌਜ਼ਾ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਲੂਣ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਗਿ ਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਚਸਾਹਾ ॥੩॥
aavag aagi-aa paarbarahm kee uth jaasee muhat chasaahaa. ||3||
similarly when God’s command comes, the soul would leave the body in an instant. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ (ਸੱਦਾ) ਆਵੇਗਾ, ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਏਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਲੈਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ॥
ray man laykhai chaaleh laykhai baiseh laykhai laidaa saahaa.
O’ my mind, where you go and what you do, even the number of breaths you take is predetermined.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਲੇਖੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਓਟਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੩॥
sadaa keerat kar naanak har kee ubray satgur charan otaahaa. ||4||1||123||
O’ Nanak, always sing praises of God; those who seek the refuge of the Guru and follow his teachings are saved from the clutches of Maya. ||4||1||123||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਣੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੩॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਅਪੁਸਟ ਬਾਤ ਤੇ ਭਈ ਸੀਧਰੀ ਦੂਤ ਦੁਸਟ ਸਜਨਈ ॥
apusat baat tay bha-ee seeDhree doot dusat sajna-ee.
Whatever wrong I did became right and all my wicked enemies became friends.
ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਪੁੱਠੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ (ਮੇਰੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ) ਚੰਦਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ (ਹੁਣ) ਸੱਜਣ-ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣ ਗਏ,
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਓ ਮਲੀਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਹਛਨਈ ॥੧॥
anDhkaar meh ratan pargaasi-o maleen buDh hachhna-ee. ||1||
Jewel like divine wisdom illuminated the darkness of my ignorant mind and my evil intellect became virtuous. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆਨ- ਰਤਨ ਚਮਕ ਪਿਆ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਲੀ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸੁਥਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੧॥
ਜਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਈ ॥
ja-o kirpaa gobind bha-ee.
When God became merciful,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਈ,
ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sukh sampat har naam fal paa-ay satgur mil-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I met the true Guru; as a result I attained peace and the wealth of God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਤੇ ਫਲ ਵਜੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੋਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਈ ॥
mohi kirpan ka-o ko-ay na jaanat sagal bhavan pargata-ee.
I, the miserly one, whom no one knew, have become famous all over the world.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਕਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ; ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਘਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਠਨੋ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਹੁਣਿ ਸਗਲ ਚਰਣ ਸੇਵਈ ॥੨॥
sang baithno kahee na paavat hun sagal charan sayv-ee. ||2||
Previously no one wanted to sit near me, but now all wish to serve me.||2||
(ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬੈਠਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਹੁਣ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ ॥੨॥
ਆਢ ਆਢ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਤ ਢੂੰਢਤੇ ਮਨ ਸਗਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈ ॥
aadh aadh ka-o firat dhoondh-tay man sagal tarisan bujh ga-ee.
I used to wander in search of a few coins, but now all my yearning for worldly wealth is quenched.
ਮੈਂ ਅੱਧੀ ਅੱਧੀ ਦਮੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਢੂੰਡਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਸਾਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਬੁੱਝ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੁ ਬੋਲੁ ਭੀ ਖਵਤੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੀਤਲਈ ॥੩॥
ayk bol bhee khavto naahee saaDhsangat seetla-ee. ||3||
I could not bear even one word of criticism, but now, in the holy congregation, I am calm and lax. ||3||
ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਖਰ੍ਹਵਾ ਬੋਲ ਸਹਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਾਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਪਰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਠੰਡਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਏਕ ਜੀਹ ਗੁਣ ਕਵਨ ਵਖਾਨੈ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮਈ ॥
ayk jeeh gun kavan vakhaanai agam agam agma-ee.
What virtues of the infinite, inaccessible and unfathomable God can one mere tongue describe?
ਉਸ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਕ ਜੀਭ, ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰੇ?
ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਕੋ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੨੪॥
daas daas daas ko karee-ahu jan naanak har sarna-ee. ||4||2||124||
O’ God, I have come to Your refuge, please make me the the humble servant of Your devotees, prays Nanak. ||4||2||124||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ, ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਦੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੨੪॥

ਰੇ ਮੂੜੇ ਲਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੂੰ ਢੀਲਾ ਢੀਲਾ ਤੋਟੇ ਕਉ ਬੇਗਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
ray moorhay laahay ka-o tooN dheelaa dheelaa totay ka-o bayg Dhaa-i-aa.
O fool, you are so slow to earn the profit of spiritual wealth, but so quick to run up losses against this wealth by indulging in vices.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ! (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਲਾਭ ਵਲੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਲਸੀ ਹੈਂ ਪਰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਦੇ) ਘਾਟੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਛੇਤੀ ਉੱਠ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ!
ਸਸਤ ਵਖਰੁ ਤੂੰ ਘਿੰਨਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਬਾਧਾ ਰੇਨਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sasat vakhar tooN ghinneh naahee paapee baaDhaa raynaa-i-aa. ||1||
O’ Sinner, you are tied up in the debt of vices instead of earning the priceless commodity of Naam. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪਾਪੀ! ਤੂੰ ਸਸਤਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ, (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸਾਇਆ ॥
satgur tayree aasaa-i-aa.
O’ true Guru, I have my hope in you.
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਹੈ।
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮੈ ਏਹਾ ਓਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
patit paavan tayro naam paarbarahm mai ayhaa otaa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the supreme God, I know that Your Name is the purifier of sinners and this alone is my support. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੰਧਣ ਵੈਣ ਸੁਣਹਿ ਉਰਝਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਅਲਕਾਇਆ ॥
ganDhan vain suneh urjhaavahi naam lait alkaa-i-aa.
O’ fool, you are sluggish in meditating on Naam because you are so much caught up in listening to evil songs.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੂੰ ਗੰਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ (ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਮਸਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈਂਦਿਆਂ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਨਿੰਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਕਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਮਾਹਿਓ ਬੂਝੀ ਉਲਟਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
nind chind ka-o bahut umaahi-o boojhee ultaa-i-aa. ||2||
Such is your perverted intellect that you are delighted by slanderous talk. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ ਉਲਟੀ ਹੀ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਤੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਚਾਉ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੨॥
ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਰ ਤਨ ਪਰ ਤੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਅਖਾਧਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਹਰਕਾਇਆ ॥
par Dhan par tan par tee nindaa akhaaDh khaahi harkaa-i-aa.
O’ fool, you have gone crazy because you eat unsavory food, slander others and you keep an evil eye on other’s wealth and women.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ,ਅਤੇ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਲੋਭ ਨਾਲ ਹਲਕਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਚਾਹੀਦੀਆਂ।
ਸਾਚ ਧਰਮ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਛੋਹਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
saach Dharam si-o ruch nahee aavai sat sunat chhohaa-i-aa. ||3||
You have no love for true faith; hearing the truth, you get enraged. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ-ਵਾਲੇ ਧਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਸੱਚ-ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਖਿੱਝ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਗਤ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥
deen da-i-aal kirpaal parabh thaakur bhagat tayk har naa-i-aa.
O’ merciful God of the helpless, O’ compassionate Master-God, Your Name is the support of Your devotees.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਹਿ ਸਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਓ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਅਪਨਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨੫॥
naanak aahi saran parabh aa-i-o raakh laaj apnaa-i-aa. ||4||3||125||
O’ God, with great hope, Nanak has come to Your refuge, deeming him as Your own, please save his honor. ||4||3||125||
ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੁ ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਚਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿੱਜ ਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨੫॥

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਏ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ॥
mithi-aa sang sang laptaa-ay moh maa-i-aa kar baaDhay.
People attached to falsehood are involved with evil friends and are trapped in emotional attachment to Maya.
ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਚੀਜ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਚਿਮੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ,ਝੂਠੇ ਸੰਗੀਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਜਕੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਸੋ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਭਏ ਆਂਧੇ ॥੧॥
jah jaano so cheet na aavai ahaN-buDh bha-ay aaNDhay. ||1||
The place where they will go after death does not enter their mind at all, because they are blinded by their egotistical intellect ||1||
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ,ਹੰਕਾਰੀ-ਮਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਅਰਾਧੇ ॥
man bairaagee ki-o na araaDhay.
O’ my mind, why don’t you become detached from Maya and meditate on Naam?
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ?
ਕਾਚ ਕੋਠਰੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਸਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਖੈ ਕੀ ਬਿਆਧੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaach kothree maahi tooN bastaa sang sagal bikhai kee bi-aaDhay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
This body, in which you are residing along with all sorts of sinful maladies, is like a fragile hut. ||1||Pause||
(ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ) ਕੱਚੀ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਪਲੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ਅਰਜਾਧੇ ॥
mayree mayree karat din rain bihaavai pal khin chheejai arjaaDhay.
Crying out, “Mine, mine“, your days and nights pass away; moment by moment, your life is running out.
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹਰ ਮੁਹਤ ਤੇ ਛਿੰਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਭੁਰਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
