ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੨॥
gur sayvaa mahal paa-ee-ai jag dutar taree-ai. ||2||
By following the Guru’s teachings, God’s presence in our heart is realized and we swim across the impassable world-ocean of vices. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ -ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
darisat tayree sukh paa-ee-ai man maahi niDhaanaa.
O’ God, peace is attained by Your gracious glance and we realize the presence of the treasure of Naam in our heart.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਭਏ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
jaa ka-o tum kirpaal bha-ay sayvak say parvaanaa. ||3||
O’ God, devotees on whom You bestow mercy, are approved in Your court. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੋ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
amrit ras har keertano ko virlaa peevai.
Praises of God is the ambrosial nectar and only a rare person partakes it.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਜਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੧੬॥
vajahu naanak milai ayk naam rid jap jap jeevai. ||4||14||116||
O’ Nanak, the devotee who is continuously blessed with God’s Name, remains spiritually alive by always meditating on it.||4||14||116||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਵਜ਼ੀਫ਼ਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੧੬॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਹਉ ਚੇਰੁਲੀ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥
jaa parabh kee ha-o chayrulee so sabh tay oochaa.
I am that God’s servant who is the highest of all.
ਮੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ਥੋਰਾ ਅਰੁ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh taa kaa kaaNdhee-ai thoraa ar moochaa. ||1||
Everything, big and small, are said to belong to Him. ||1||
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਛੋਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਉਸੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਖੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਮਨੀਆ ॥
jee-a paraan mayraa Dhano saahib kee manee-aa.
I consider that my soul, life, and wealth are gifts from my Master-God.
ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੰਨਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਜਿਸੈ ਕੈ ਊਜਲੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਾਸੀ ਗਨੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam jisai kai oojlee tis daasee ganee-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By meditating on Whose Name I have become honorable, I deem myself as the servant of that God. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਗਿਣਦੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਅਨੰਦ ਮੈ ਨਾਉ ਮਾਣਕ ਹੀਰਾ ॥
vayparvaahu anand mai naa-o maanak heeraa.
O’ God, You are the embodiment of bliss with nothing to worry; to me Your Name is priceless gem.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਜੀ ਧਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੀਰਾ ॥੨॥
rajee Dhaa-ee sadaa sukh jaa kaa tooN meeraa. ||2||
One who has You as the Master, is satiated and peaceful forever. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਰੀ ਸੰਗ ਕੀ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਉ ॥
sakhee sahayree sang kee sumat darirhaava-o.
O’ my friends and mates, I emphatically give you this wise counsel;
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੀਓ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਭਲੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ
ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਤਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਉ ॥੩॥
sayvhu saaDhoo bhaa-o kar ta-o niDh har paava-o. ||3||
serve the Guru with love and devotion by following his teachings and attain the treasure of God’s Name. ||3||
ਸਰਧਾ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਵੋ। ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ ॥੩॥
ਸਗਲੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਠਾਕੁਰੈ ਸਭ ਕਹਤੀ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
saglee daasee thaakurai sabh kahtee mayraa.
All soul-brides are the maids of the Master-God and all call Him their own.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੁਖਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੧੭॥
jisahi seegaaray naankaa tis sukheh basayraa. ||4||15||117||
O’ Nanak, only that soul-bride dwells in peace, whom Master-God adorns Himself. ||4||15||117||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੧੭॥

ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਏਹੁ ਅਚਾਰਾ ਸਿਖੁ ਰੀ ॥
santaa kee ho-ay daasree ayhu achaaraa sikh ree.
O’ my soul, becoming a humble devotee of the saints, learn this conduct;
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੁ-ਬੱਸ! ਇਹ ਕਰਤੱਬ ਸਿੱਖ,
ਸਗਲ ਗੁਣਾ ਗੁਣ ਊਤਮੋ ਭਰਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਪਿਖੁ ਰੀ ॥੧॥
sagal gunaa gun ootmo bhartaa door na pikh ree. ||1||
that the most sublime virtue of all the virtues is that you never deem your Husband-God far from you. ||1||
ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੀ ॥
ih man sundar aapnaa har naam majeethai rang ree.
Imbue this beautiful mind of yours in the never fading love of God’s Name.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਜੀਠ (ਵਰਗੇ ਪੱਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਲੈ,
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਚਾਤੁਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣੁ ਗੁਪਾਲਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ti-aag si-aanap chaaturee tooN jaan gupaaleh sang ree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ dear soul, renounce all your cleverness and cunningness, deem God, the sustainer of the world, with you. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਤੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ , ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ-ਨਾਲ-ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਰਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਰਤਾ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਏਹੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇ ਰੀ ॥
bhartaa kahai so maanee-ai ayhu seegaar banaa-ay ree.
O’ dear soul, whatever the Husband-God says, accept that and make it the embellishment of Your life.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੋ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨ, ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਏਹੁ ਤੰਬੋਲਾ ਖਾਇ ਰੀ ॥੨॥
doojaa bhaa-o visaaree-ai ayhu tambolaa khaa-ay ree. ||2||.
Forget the love of Maya and contemplate on Naam like chewing the betel leaf. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਇਹ ਪਾਨ ਖਾਇਆ ਕਰ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਪਕੋ ਇਹ ਸਤ ਕੀ ਸੇਜ ਬਿਛਾਇ ਰੀ ॥
gur kaa sabad kar deepko ih sat kee sayj bichhaa-ay ree.
O’ dear soul bride, make the Guru’s word as your lamp to illuminate your mind and enshrine truth in your heart.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਣਾ ( ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ) ਤੇ ਸਚ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾ।
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਰਹੁ ਤਉ ਭੇਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਰੀ ॥੩॥
aath pahar kar jorh rahu ta-o bhaytai har raa-ay ree. ||3||
At all times, with folded hands, remain ready to follow His will; only then will you be able to realize the sovereign God. ||3||.
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ!ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੁ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਚਜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਈ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ਰੀ ॥
tis hee chaj seegaar sabh saa-ee roop apaar ree.
That soul-bride alone is virtuous, embellished and of incomparable beauty,
ਉਸੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਚੱਜ, ਆਤਮਕ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮਝੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਸਾਈ ਸੋੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੋ ਭਾਣੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੧੮॥
saa-ee sohagan naankaa jo bhaanee kartaar ree. ||4||16||118||
who is pleasing to the Creator-God; O’ Nanak, that soul-bride is the happily wedded. ||4||16||118||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ) ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੧੮॥

ਡੀਗਨ ਡੋਲਾ ਤਊ ਲਉ ਜਉ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥
deegan dolaa ta-oo la-o ja-o man kay bharmaa.
As long as there are doubts in the mind, one keeps falling in vices and wandering in the love for Maya.
ਜਦ ਤਾਂਈ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਹਨ, ਉਦੋਂ ਤਾਂਈ ਆਦਮੀ ਡਿਗਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਡਿੱਕ-ਡੋਲੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕਾਟੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਸਰਾਮਾ ॥੧॥
bharam kaatay gur aapnai paa-ay bisraamaa. ||1||
But when my Guru removed these doubts, my mind has attained equipoise ||1||
ਪਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਟਕਣਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਟਿਕਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਓਇ ਬਿਖਾਦੀ ਦੋਖੀਆ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੂਟੇ ॥
o-ay bikhaadee dokhee-aa tay gur tay hootay.
By the Guru’s grace all those quarrelsome adversaries (such as lust and anger) have left me.
ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਵੈਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਲਹਿ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਹਮ ਛੂਟੇ ਅਬ ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਓਇ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham chhootay ab unHaa tay o-ay ham tay chhootay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have now escaped from them, and they have run away from me. ||1||Pause||
ਹੁਣ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਾਡੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਾਨਤਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਬੰਧਾ ॥
mayraa tayraa jaantaa tab hee tay banDhaa.
As long as I believed in discrimination, I was held in bondage of Maya.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮੈ ਵਿਤਕਰੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬਧਾ ਰਹਿਆ
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਟੀ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਤਬ ਛੁਟਕੇ ਫੰਧਾ ॥੨॥
gur kaatee agi-aantaa tab chhutkay fanDhaa. ||2||
When the Guru dispelled my ignorance, my bonds of Maya were removed. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੨॥
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਤਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਲਉ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥
jab lag hukam na boojh-taa tab hee la-o dukhee-aa.
As long as one does not understand God’s will, one remains miserable.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤਕ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥੩॥
gur mil hukam pachhaani-aa tab hee tay sukhee-aa. ||3||
By meeting and following the Guru’s teachings, when one understands God’s wll, from then on he lives in peace. ||3||
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਦੋਖੀਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
naa ko dusman dokhee-aa naahee ko mandaa.
Now he feels that he has neither any enemy, nor any rival, and none seems wicked to him.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੈੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਸਮੈ ਬੰਦਾ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੧੧੯॥
gur kee sayvaa sayvko naanak khasmai bandaa. ||4||17||119||
O’ Nanak, by following the Guru’s teachings, he becomes God’s devotee. ||4||17||119||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੧੧੯॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਉ ॥
sookh sahj aanad ghanaa har keertan gaa-o.
I keep singing God’s praises, which keeps me in a state of peace, poise, and immense bliss.
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਰਹ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
garah nivaaray satguroo day apnaa naa-o. ||1||
The true Guru has removed the influence of evil by blessing me with God’s Name, the one upon which the Guru himself meditates. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
balihaaree gur aapnay sad sad bal jaa-o.
I dedicate myself to my Guru, yes I dedicate myself forever.
