ਲਾਲ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
laal javayhar bharay bhandaar.
The heart of a person becomes filled with precious divine virtues which are like jewels.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਜਵਾਹਿਰਾਤਾਂ (ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣ) ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
tot na aavai jap nirankaar.
By meditation on the formless God, these divine virtues never run short.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਕਦੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਥੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਬਦੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
amrit sabad peevai jan ko-ay.
Anyone who drinks the ambrosial nectar of Naam,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥੪੧॥੯੨॥
naanak taa kee param gat ho-ay. ||2||41||92||
O’ Nanak, he attains the supreme spiritual status . ||2||41||92||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੪੧॥੯੨॥

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
har kaa naam ridai nit Dhi-aa-ee.
I always lovingly meditate on the name of God in my heart.
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਸਗਲ ਤਰਾਂਈ ॥੧
sangee saathee sagal taraaN-ee. ||1||
Thus I help all my companions swim across this worldly ocean of vices. ||1||
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਬਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
gur mayrai sang sadaa hai naalay.
My Guru is always with me.
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
simar simar tis sadaa samHaalay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By meditating on God, I always keep Him enshrined in my heart. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
tayraa kee-aa meethaa laagai.
O’ God, whatever You do seems the best for me,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ॥੨॥੪੨॥੯੩॥
har naam padaarath naanak maaNgai. ||2||42||93||
and Nanak begs for the wealth of Your Name only ||2||42||93||

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
saaDhoo sangat tari-aa sansaar. har kaa naam maneh aaDhaar. ||1||
One who accepts God’s Name as the support of his mind, swims across the world-ocean of vices with the help of the company of the Guru.||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

God’s saints worship with love the divine Guru by humbly following his teachings.||1||Pause||
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਾਲ, ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭਾਗੁ ॥
jaa kai mastak likhi-aa bhaag.
one whose destiny has been so written,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ॥੨॥੪੩॥੯੪॥
kaho naanak taa kaa thir sohaag. ||2||43||94||
his union with God becomes eternal, says Nanak. ||2||43||94||

ਮੀਠੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਪਿਰ ਕੀ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
meethee aagi-aa pir kee laagee.
Since the time the command of my Husband-God started seeming sweet to me,
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗੀ,
ਸਉਕਨਿ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਕੰਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
sa-ukan ghar kee kant ti-aagee.
the Husband-God helped me discard my rival (Maya).
(ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਘਰ ਮੱਲ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੌਂਕਣ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ਕਰੀ ॥
pari-a sohaagan seegaar karee.
My beloved embellished me, the with spiritual virtues,
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੇ ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਤਪਤਿ ਹਰੀ ॥੧॥
man mayray kee tapat haree. ||1||
and calmed the burning desires of my mind. ||1||
ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਤਪਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭਲੋ ਭਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
bhalo bha-i-o pari-a kahi-aa maani-aa.
It was good that I obeyed the command of my beloved-God,
ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ,
ਸੂਖੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਇਸੁ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sookh sahj is ghar kaa jaani-aa. rahaa-o.
and realized celestial peace and poise within my heart. ||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹਉ ਬੰਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਖਿਜਮਤਦਾਰ ॥
ha-o bandee pari-a khijmatdaar.
I have now become a devoted servant of my beloved God,
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰਨੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ,
ਓਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
oh abhinaasee agam apaar.
who is eternal, unfathomable and infinite.
ਉਹ ਪਤੀ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਲੇ ਪਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਝਲਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
lay pakhaa pari-a jhala-o paa-ay.
I serve Him humbly with such great love and devotion,
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਪੱਖਾ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਲੋ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਝੱਲਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ,
ਭਾਗਿ ਗਏ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਲਾਵੇ ॥੨॥
bhaag ga-ay panch doot laavay. ||2||
that the five demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego), who were ruining my spiritual life, have fled away. ||2||
(ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕੱਟਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਮੈ ਕੁਲੁ ਨਾ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥
naa mai kul naa sobhaavant.
Neither I belong to any noble family, nor I possess any glorifying virtues.
ਨਾਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਚਾ ਖ਼ਾਨਦਾਨ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ (ਕਿਸੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਸੋਭਾ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਾਂ,
ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਾ ਕਿਉ ਭਾਨੀ ਕੰਤ ॥
ki-aa jaanaa ki-o bhaanee kant.
I don’t know why am I pleasing to my Husband-God?
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਮਾਨੀ ॥ ਕੰਤ ਪਕਰਿ ਹਮ ਕੀਨੀ ਰਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
mohi anaath gareeb nimaanee. kant pakar ham keenee raanee. ||3||
The Husband-God accepted me, a supportless, helpless, and humble person, as His queen. ||3||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਨਾਥ ਨੂੰ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਤ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਬਾਹੋਂ) ਫੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਾਣੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਬ ਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
jab mukh pareetam saajan laagaa.
Since the time I met my beloved Spouse,
(ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਾ ॥
sookh sahj mayraa Dhan sohaagaa.
I have become very fortunate and I am enjoying peace and poise.
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੋਰੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ॥
kaho naanak moree pooran aasaa.
Nanak says, my desire is fulfilled,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੇਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੯੫॥
satgur maylee parabh guntaasaa. ||4||1||95||
the true Guru has united me with God, the treasure of virtues. ||4||1||95||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੯੫॥

ਮਾਥੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰੂਰਿ ॥
maathai tarikutee darisat karoor.
Maya is like a woman who always looks angry with a frown on her forehead.
ਉਸ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਊੜੀ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਬੋਲੈ ਕਉੜਾ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਕੀ ਫੂੜਿ ॥
bolai ka-urhaa jihbaa kee foorh.
She always speaks bitter and rude words.
ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਕੌੜਾ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੀਭ ਦੀ ਖਰ੍ਹਵੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਭੂਖੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
sadaa bhookhee pir jaanai door. ||1||
She is always hungry (ready to entangle people); she deems God far away. |1|
ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਭੁੱਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੜੱਪ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ-ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਕ ਰਾਮਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
aisee istaree ik raam upaa-ee.
God has created Maya like such a woman,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਇਕ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
ਉਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
un sabh jag khaa-i-aa ham gur raakhay mayray bhaa-ee. rahaa-o.
who has devoured the entire world; but O’ my brother, the Guru has saved me from this woman called Maya ||Pause||
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਪਾਇ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਜੋਹਿਆ ॥
paa-ay thag-ulee sabh jag johi-aa.
Administering the intoxicating herb of worldly attachments, Maya has enticed the entire world.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ) ਠਗਬੂਟੀ ਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਮੋਹਿਆ ॥
barahmaa bisan mahaaday-o mohi-aa.
She has bewitched even the angels like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਹ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਹੈ? ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥੨॥
gurmukh naam lagay say sohi-aa. ||2||
Only those who follow the Guru’s teachings and remain attuned to Naam, look beauteous by escaping her enticement.
||2|| ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਗਏ ॥੨॥
ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨਾ ॥
varat naym kar thaakay punharchanaa.
People have exhausted themselves observing fasts, adhering to their vows and doing atonements for their sins.
ਲੋਕ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਨੇਮ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਲਈ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ,
ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਭਵੇ ਸਭ ਧਰਨਾ ॥
tat tirath bhavay sabh Dharnaa.
They wander on the banks of rivers and sacred places of the entire world.
ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਭਉਂ ਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੩॥
say ubray je satgur kee sarnaa. ||3||
Only those are saved who seek the refuge of the true Guru. ||3||
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭੋ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧਾ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi sabho jag baaDhaa.
The entire world is bound in the attachment of Maya.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਹਉਮੈ ਪਚੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਰਾਖਾ ॥
ha-umai pachai manmukh mooraakhaa.
The foolish self-willed person is consumed by egotism.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਹਮ ਰਾਖਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੯੬॥
gur naanak baah pakar ham raakhaa. ||4||2||96||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s support has saved me from Maya. ||4||2||96||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੯੬॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਸਰਬ ਦੂਖ ਜਬ ਬਿਸਰਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
sarab dookh jab bisrahi su-aamee.
O’ Master-God, when one forgets You he is surrounded by miseries.
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਆ ਘੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
eehaa oohaa kaam na paraanee. ||1||
Both here and hereafter such a person is of no use to anyone. ||1||
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਇ ॥
sant tariptaasay har har Dhayaa-ay.
The saints remain satiated by meditating on God.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
