ਸੰਚਤ ਸੰਚਤ ਥੈਲੀ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ॥

In this way, even if he collected lot of wealth,
ਜੋੜਦਿਆਂ ਜੋੜਦਿਆਂ (ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਭੀ) ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ,
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਡਾਰਿ ਅਵਰ ਕਉ ਦੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ॥੧॥
parabh us tay daar avar ka-o deenHee. ||1||
at the end God takes it away from him and gives it to someone else. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧॥
ਕਾਚ ਗਗਰੀਆ ਅੰਭ ਮਝਰੀਆ ॥
kaach gagree-aa ambh majhree-aa.
This human body is like an unbaked clay pot in the midst of water,
ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਕੱਚੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਗਾਗਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਛਲ-ਉਛਲ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗਰਬਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
garab garab u-aahoo meh paree-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.|
similarly indulged in ego, one sinks in the world-ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇਓ ਭਇਆ ਨਿਹੰਗਾ ॥
nirbha-o ho-i-o bha-i-aa nihangaa.
In the ego of power, he becomes fearless and bold,
ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਿਧੜਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
cheet na aa-i-o kartaa sangaa.
the Creator, who is ever with him, does not even enter his thoughts.
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਲ-ਵੱਸਦਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਯਾਦ ਨਾਹ ਆਇਆ,
ਲਸਕਰ ਜੋੜੇ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਬਾਹਾ ॥
laskar jorhay kee-aa sambaahaa.
Even if he raises huge armies and collects arms
ਉਹ ਫੌਜਾਂ ਭਰਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਜਮ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਕਸਿਆ ਫੂਕ ਤ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਓ ਸੁਆਹਾ ॥੨॥
niksi-aa fook ta ho-ay ga-i-o su-aahaa. ||2||
when he breathes his last, his body becomes like a heap of dust. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਅਰੁ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
oochay mandar mahal ar raanee.
Even if he has lofty palaces, mansions and queen.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੇ ਮਹਲ ਮਾੜੀਆਂ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰਾਣੀ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ।
ਹਸਤਿ ਘੋੜੇ ਜੋੜੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੀ ॥
hasat ghorhay jorhay man bhaanee.
Even if he has mind pleasing horses, elephants and garments.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਹਾਥੀ ਘੋੜੇ (ਵਧੀਆ) ਮਨ-ਭਾਉਂਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ (ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਲਏ।
ਵਡ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਪੂਤ ਅਰੁ ਧੀਆ ॥
vad parvaar poot ar Dhee-aa.
Even if he is blessed with a great family of sons and daughters.
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ,
ਮੋਹਿ ਪਚੇ ਪਚਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਮੂਆ ॥੩॥
mohi pachay pach anDhaa moo-aa. ||3||
But ultimately engrossed in emotional attachment, the fool blinded by Maya perishes away to death. ||3||
ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਚਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਗਲ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨਹਿ ਉਪਾਹਾ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਬਿਨਾਹਾ ॥
jineh upaahaa tineh binaahaa.
That God who created him destroyed him too.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਰੰਗ ਰਸਾ ਜੈਸੇ ਸੁਪਨਾਹਾ ॥
rang rasaa jaisay supnaahaa.
All his worldly pleasures and enjoyments faded away like a dream.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਮੌਜ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ॥੪॥੩੫॥੮੬॥
so-ee muktaa tis raaj maal. naanak daas jis khasam da-i-aal. ||4||35||86||
O’ Nanak, he alone remains free from the bonds of Maya, who has the everlasting power and wealth of Naam and on whom God is kind. ||4||35||86||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ) ॥੪॥੩੫॥੮੬॥

. Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥
inH si-o pareet karee ghanayree.
If we get too much in love with this Maya (worldly wealth and power),
ਜੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀਏ,
ਜਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਤਉ ਵਧੈ ਵਧੇਰੀ ॥
ja-o milee-ai ta-o vaDhai vaDhayree.
then the more we accumulate it the more we get attached to it.
ਤਾਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਵਧਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਲਿ ਚਮੜੀ ਜਉ ਛੋਡੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
gal chamrhee ja-o chhodai naahee.
Ultimately, when clinging to our neck, it doesn’t leave us,
(ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਛੱਡਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਲਾਗਿ ਛੁਟੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
laag chhuto satgur kee paa-ee. ||1||
then we can get rid of it only by seeking the refuge of the true Guru. ||1||
ਤਦੋਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਗ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਹਮ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
jag mohnee ham ti-aag gavaa-ee.
Since the time I have renounced and cast away the love of Maya, the enticer of the world,
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪਰੇ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nirgun mili-o vajee vaDhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have met that God who is free from the affects of Maya and I am in great spirit. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ-ਭਰੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਐਸੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
aisee sundar man ka-o mohai.
This Maya is so beautiful that it captivates the human mind.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਐਸੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਤੁਰਤ) ਮੋਹ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਟਿ ਘਾਟਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਨਿ ਬਨਿ ਜੋਹੈ ॥
baat ghaat garihi ban ban johai.
It keeps its eye on human beings, whether they are on the road, at seashores, at home or in the wilderness.
ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਪੱਤਣ ਉਤੇ ਲੰਘਦਿਆਂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਜੰਗਲ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਭੌਂਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੱਕ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਮੀਠੀ ॥
man tan laagai ho-ay kai meethee.
It clings to everyone’s mind and body by posing as very sweet and charming.
ਮਿੱਠੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਚੰਬੜਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੈ ਖੋਟੀ ਡੀਠੀ ॥੨॥
gur parsaad mai khotee deethee. ||2||
But by the Guru’s grace, I have realized that in reality it is very deceitful. ||2||
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਬੜੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅਗਰਕ ਉਸ ਕੇ ਵਡੇ ਠਗਾਊ ॥
agarak us kay vaday thagaa-oo.
The forerunners of Maya, the vices, are also great deceivers.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਵੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਠੱਗ ਹਨ,
ਛੋਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਾਪ ਨ ਮਾਊ ॥
chhodeh naahee baap na maa-oo.
They do not spare even their father or mother.
ਮਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ ਪਿਉ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਗਣੋਂ ਛੱਡਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਮੇਲੀ ਅਪਨੇ ਉਨਿ ਲੇ ਬਾਂਧੇ ॥
maylee apnay un lay baaNDhay.
They (vices) have enslaved their companions or acquaintances.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਕੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਧੇ ॥੩॥
gur kirpaa tay mai saglay saaDhay. ||3||
But by the Guru’s Grace, I have subjugated them all. ||3||
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਅਬ ਮੋਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
ab morai man bha-i-aa anand.
Now bliss prevails in my mind.
ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਉ ਚੂਕਾ ਟੂਟੇ ਸਭਿ ਫੰਦ ॥
bha-o chookaa tootay sabh fand.
My fear of vices is gone and all my bonds of Maya are snapped.
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਮੁਸਾਹਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ-ਭਉ ਲਹਿ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਾਰੇ ਫਾਹੇ ਟੁਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak jaa satgur paa-i-aa.
Nanak says, ever since I met and followed the teachings of the true Guru,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਘਰੁ ਸਗਲਾ ਮੈ ਸੁਖੀ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩੬॥੮੭॥
ghar saglaa mai sukhee basaa-i-aa. ||4||36||87||
my heart and all other sensory organs are dwelling in peace. ||4||36||87||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਘਰ (ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ) ਸੁਖੀ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩੬॥੮੭॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
aath pahar nikat kar jaanai.
God’s devotee deems God near at all times.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
parabh kaa kee-aa meethaa maanai.
Whatever God does, he deems that as the best thing.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
ayk naam santan aaDhaar.
God‘s Name is the only support of the saints.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
ho-ay rahay sabh kee pag chhaar. ||1||
They always remain humble, as if they are the dust of the feet of all. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਰਹਤ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
sant rahat sunhu mayray bhaa-ee.
O’ my brothers, listen about the description of the way of life of a saint,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤੀ ਸੁਣ,
ਉਆ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
u-aa kee mahimaa kathan na jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
his glory cannot be described. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਡੱਪਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਵਰਤਣਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥
vartan jaa kai kayval naam.
The only sustenance for a saint is meditation on Naam.
ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਹਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
anad roop keertan bisraam.
Singing praises of God, the embodiment of bliss, is the support of saint’s life.
ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥
mitar satar jaa kai ayk samaanai.
For him, friends and foes are all alike.
ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
parabh apunay bin avar na jaanai. ||2||
Except his God, he does not recognize any other (god or goddess). ||2||
ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਘ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
kot kot agh katanhaaraa.
A saint has the power to destroy millions upon millions of sins of others.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਤ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਨ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
dukh door karan jee-a kay daataaraa.
God’s saints are able to dispel sorrows and give spiritual life to others.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਬਚਨ ਕੇ ਬਲੀ ॥
soorbeer bachan kay balee.
They are brave to take on the vices and they are men of their word.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਸੂਰਮੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੀਤੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਉਲਾ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਸੰਤੀ ਛਲੀ ॥੩॥
ka-ulaa bapuree santee chhalee. ||3||
Maya is helpless before the saints, therefore it is under their control. ||3||
ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਬਾਛਹਿ ਸੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
taa kaa sang baachheh surdayv.
Even the heavenly angels long for the company of such a saint of God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਆਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭੀ ਲੋੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਮੋਘ ਦਰਸੁ ਸਫਲ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
amogh daras safal jaa kee sayv.
Blessed is his sight and fruitful is his service.
ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ। ,
ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
kar jorh naanak karay ardaas.
Nanak prays with folded hands,
ਨਾਨਕ (ਦੋਵੇਂ) ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-
ਮੋਹਿ ਸੰਤਹ ਟਹਲ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੮੮॥
mohi santeh tahal deejai guntaas. ||4||37||88||
O’ God, the Treasure of virtues, please bless me with the humble service of the saints ||4||37||88||
ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੮੮॥

ਸਗਲ ਸੂਖ ਜਪਿ ਏਕੈ ਨਾਮ ॥

All kind of peace and comforts are attained by meditating on God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥
.Dharam har kay gun gaam.
All the merits of performing faith rituals are attained by singing God’s Praises.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਹਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਧ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥

Extremely sanctifying is the company of the saint-Guru,
