ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 5.
Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰਤਾ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਡਰਿਆ ॥
naa oh martaa naa ham dari-aa.
Since God never dies, we should also have no fear of death.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ।ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਕੜਿਆ ॥
naa oh binsai naa ham karhi-aa.
He does not perish, so we too have no worry of destruction.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਦੀ) ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਭੂਖੇ ॥
naa oh nirDhan naa ham bhookhay.
Since God is not poor, we should not consider ourselves hungry and poor.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਅਸੀਂ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਖੇ-ਗਰੀਬ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝੀਏ।,
ਨਾ ਓਸੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਦੂਖੇ ॥੧॥
naa os dookh na ham ka-o dookhay. ||1||
Neither is God afflicted with any pain or sorrow, nor do we suffer in agony. ||1||
ਨਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਮਾਰਨਵਾਰਾ ॥
avar na ko-oo maaranvaaraa.
There is no one else except God who has the power to kill anybody.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ।
ਜੀਅਉ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਦੇਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeeau hamaaraa jee-o daynhaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God, the bestower of life to us, is eternal. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਆਪ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾ ਉਸੁ ਬੰਧਨ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਬਾਧੇ ॥
naa us banDhan naa ham baaDhay.
Since God has no entanglements, therefore we should also not be in any bondage of worldly attachments .
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜਕੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾ ਉਸੁ ਧੰਧਾ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਧਾਧੇ ॥
naa us DhanDhaa naa ham DhaaDhay.
Neither is He involved nor we should be engrossed in any kind of strife
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਇਕ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਗ੍ਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਅਸੀਂ ਭੀ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾ ਉਸੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਮੈਲਾ ॥
naa us mail na ham ka-o mailaa.
God is free from the filth of vices, therefore we should be free from vices.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦੀ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ।
ਓਸੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਤ ਹਮ ਸਦ ਕੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
os anand ta ham sad kaylaa. ||2||
He is always in ecstasy, we should also always remain delighted. ||2||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀਂ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੀ ਰਹੀਏ ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਉਸੁ ਸੋਚੁ ਨ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸੋਚਾ ॥
naa us soch na ham ka-o sochaa.
He has no anxiety, we should also have no worry.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
ਨਾ ਉਸੁ ਲੇਪੁ ਨ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਪੋਚਾ ॥
naa us layp na ham ka-o pochaa.
He is not affected by Maya, we should also not be afflicted by worldly attachments.
ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਪਏ?
ਨਾ ਉਸੁ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ॥
naa us bhookh na ham ka-o tarisnaa.
God has no longing for anything, we should also have no yearning for Maya.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਬਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ।
ਜਾ ਉਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਾਂ ਹਮ ਜਚਨਾ ॥੩॥
jaa uho nirmal taaN ham jachnaa. ||3||
Since He is immaculately pure, we also remain pure. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਉਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ) ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਭੀ ਸੁੱਧ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਰਹਿਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਹਮ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਕੈ ਓਹੀ ॥
ham kichh naahee aykai ohee.
Separate from Him,we by ourselves are nothing; He alone is all in all.
ਸਾਡੀ ਕੋਈ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ।
ਆਗੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
aagai paachhai ayko so-ee.
Both here and hereafter, it is the one God alone.
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਏ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੰਗਾ ॥
naanak gur kho-ay bharam bhangaa.
O’ Nanak, the Guru has dispelled all doubts which were keeping us separated from God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਥੀ ਹੋਈ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਘਨ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ,
ਹਮ ਓਇ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੋਏ ਇਕ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੪॥੩੨॥੮੩॥
ham o-ay mil ho-ay ik rangaa. ||4||32||83||
Upon meeting God, we become one with Him. ||4||32||83||
ਤਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੩੨॥੮੩॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
anik bhaaNt kar sayvaa karee-ai.
We should serve a devoted soul-bride in numerous ways,
ਸਤ-ਸੰਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਧਰੀਐ ॥
jee-o paraan Dhan aagai Dharee-ai.
and surrender our life, soul, and wealth before her.
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਧਨ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਨੀ ਪਖਾ ਕਰਉ ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
paanee pakhaa kara-o taj abhimaan.
Renouncing ego, I wish to humbly serve a devoted and united soul bride of God.
ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਣ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਖਾ ਝੱਲਣ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਂ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
anik baar jaa-ee-ai kurbaan. ||1||
Time and time again, we should dedicate ourselves to her. ||1||
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਾਈ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਈ ॥
saa-ee suhaagan jo parabh bhaa-ee.
Fortunate is the bride-soul, who is pleasing to Husband-God.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis kai sang mila-o mayree maa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O my mother, I wish that I may join that fortunate bride-soul. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੀ ਕੀ ਪਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥
daasan daasee kee panihaar.
I wish that I may become the humble servant of the servants of that bride-soul.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਾਸੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣਾਂ,
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਬਸੈ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
unH kee rayn basai jee-a naal.
May their love and teachings stay in my heart.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇ।
ਮਾਥੈ ਭਾਗੁ ਤ ਪਾਵਉ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
maathai bhaag ta paava-o sang.
If such were my destiny, I may be blessed with their company,
ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਾਂ,
ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
milai su-aamee apunai rang. ||2||
but the Master-God is realized by a person through His pleasure. ||2||
ਪਰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਦੇਵਉ ਸਭ ਨੇਮਾ ॥
jaap taap dayva-o sabh naymaa.
To obtain the company of such fortunate bride-soul, I am ready to surrender the merits of all my meditation, penance and religious rites.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਾਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਤਪ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਧਨ ਦੇਣ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ,
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਅਰਪਉ ਸਭ ਹੋਮਾ ॥
karam Dharam arpa-o sabh homaa.
I am ready to offer them the merits of all my righteous deeds and worship.
ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੱਗ-ਹੋਮ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ।
ਗਰਬੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਤਜਿ ਹੋਵਉ ਰੇਨ ॥
garab moh taj hova-o rayn.
Renouncing all my ego and worldly attachment, I would perform any kind of humble service for those fortunate soul-brides,
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੋਹ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣ ਜਾਵਾਂ,
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੈਨ ॥੩॥
unH kai sang daykh-a-u parabh nain. ||3||
so that in their company, I may behold God with my enlightened eyes. ||3||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਹੇ ਮਾਂ!) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਾਂਗੀ ॥੩॥
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਏਹੀ ਆਰਾਧਉ ॥
nimakh nimakh ayhee aaraaDha-o.
At every moment I am praying,
ਮੈਂ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਇਹੀ ਸੁੱਖਣਾ ਸੁੱਖਦੀ ਹਾਂ
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਏਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧਉ ॥
dinas rain ayh sayvaa saaDha-o.
that I may always keep doing such service for those bride-souls.
ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ।)
ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥੪॥੩੩॥੮੪॥
bha-ay kirpaal gupaal gobind. saaDhsang naanak bakhsind. ||4||33||84||
O’ Nanak, the bride-soul who joins the holy congregation, the ever forgiving God of universe becomes merciful on her. ||4||33||84||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੀ ਹੈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,॥੪॥੩੩॥੮੪॥

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
parabh kee pareet sadaa sukh ho-ay.
In the love of God, eternal peace is attained.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
parabh kee pareet dukh lagai na ko-ay.
In the Love of God, one is not affected by any sorrow.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
parabh kee pareet ha-umai mal kho-ay.
With God’s love, one removes the dirt of ego.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
parabh kee pareet sad nirmal ho-ay. ||1||
In the Love of God, the conduct becomes immaculate forever. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੀਤ ਐਸਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sunhu meet aisaa paraym pi-aar.
Listen, O my friend, such is the love and affection of God,
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਸੁਣੋ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਐਸੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੈ,
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jee-a paraan ghat ghat aaDhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that it becomes the support of the life of every creature. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਇਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭਏ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
parabh kee pareet bha-ay sagal niDhaan.
In the Love of God, all treasures of virtues are obtained.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮ ॥

In the Love of God, one realizes the immaculate Naam in the heart.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥

In the love of God, one attains glory forever.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ (ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਸੋਭਾ-ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਭ ਮਿਟੀ ਹੈ ਚਿੰਤ ॥੨॥

Through God’s love every kind of anxiety gets erased. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਇਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥

In the Love of God, one crosses over this terrible world-ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ (ਆ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਡਰੈ ॥
parabh kee pareet jam tay nahee darai.
In the Love of God, one is not afraid of the demon of death.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ ਜਮ-ਦੂਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭੈ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥
parabh kee pareet sagal uDhaarai.
Through God’s love, one saves all those from vices who come in contact with him.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚਲੈ ਸੰਗਾਰੈ ॥੩॥

God’ love is the only wealth which accompanies one forever. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਐਸੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪਹੁ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਭੂਲੈ ॥
aaphu ko-ee milai na bhoolai.
By one’s own efforts, no one unites or goes astray from God.
ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ (ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਘੂਲੈ ॥
jis kirpaal tis saaDhsang ghoolai.
God Unites the one with the holy congregation on whom He becomes merciful.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
kaho naanak tayrai kurbaan.
Nanak says, O’ God I dedicate myself to You,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸੰਤ ਓਟ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੩੪॥੮੫॥

because You alone are the refuge and strength of the saints. ||4||34||85||
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਾਣ-ਬਲ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥੩੪॥੮੫॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥|
bhoopat ho-ay kai raaj kamaa-i-aa.
Being a king, if someone enjoyed royal authority,
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਭੀ ਮਾਣ ਲਿਆ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਨਰਥ ਵਿਹਾਝੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
kar kar anrath vihaajee maa-i-aa.
and amassed worldly wealth by committing atrocities.
(ਲੋਕਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਵਧੀਕੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਲ-ਧਨ ਭੀ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ,
