naanak paa-i-aa naam khajaanaa. ||4||27||78||
O’ Nanak, I have attained the treasure of the Naam. ||4||27||78||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੭੮॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Fifth Mehl:
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
thaakur si-o jaa kee ban aa-ee.
One who develops a close relationship with the Master-God,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪੱਕੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਭੋਜਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੧॥
bhojan pooran rahay aghaa-ee. ||1||
because of the unlimited food of Naam, he remains spiritually satiated. ||1||
ਅਮੁੱਕ ਨਾਮ-ਭੋਜਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ (ਆਤਮਕ ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਛੂ ਨ ਥੋਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਉ ॥
kachhoo na thoraa har bhagtan ka-o.
God’s devotees never run short of anything.
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਥੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ,
ਖਾਤ ਖਰਚਤ ਬਿਲਛਤ ਦੇਵਨ ਕਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
khaat kharchat bilchhat dayvan ka-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
They always have enough to use, spend, enjoy, and give to others. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ-ਜੋਗੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
jaa kaa Dhanee agam gusaa-ee.
One who has the inaccessible God of the Universe as his Master,
ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਮਾਲਕ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਕਹੁ ਕੇਤ ਚਲਾਈ ॥੨॥!
maanukh kee kaho kayt chalaa-ee. ||2||!
how can anyone stand up to him? ||2|| !
ਦੱਸ, ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੀਹ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੨॥
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥ ਪਲਕ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਹੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥!
jaa kee sayvaa das asat siDhaa-ee.palak disat taa kee laagahu paa-ee. ||3||!
Seek the refuge of that God, by meditating on whom all the eighteen miraculous powers are attained in an instant. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹੋ ॥੩॥,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jaa ka-o da-i-aa karahu mayray su-aamee.
O’ my God, the person on whom You bestow Your mercy, !!
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੭੯॥!
kaho naanak naahee tin kaamee. ||4||28||79||
he does not lack anything, says Nanak. ||4||28||79||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਥੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੭੯॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਜਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
ja-o mai apunaa satgur Dhi-aa-i-aa.
Since the time I enshrined the teachings of my True Guru in my heart,
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਤਬ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
tab mayrai man mahaa sukh paa-i-aa. ||1||
from that very time my mind attained the supreme peace. ||1||
ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਬੜਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਗਣਤ ਬਿਨਾਸਿਉ ਸੰਸਾ ॥ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਭਏ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mit ga-ee ganat binaasi-o sansaa. naam ratay jan bha-ay bhagvanta.|1|rahaa-o.
People imbued with the love of Naam become fortunate; all their anxiety and dread are destroyed. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
ja-o mai apunaa saahib cheet.
Since the time I have enshrined my God in my conscience,
ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ (ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ)
ਤਉ ਭਉ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥
ta-o bha-o miti-o mayray meet. ||2||
O’ my friend, from that very time all my fear has gone. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਉ ਮੈ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
ja-o mai ot gahee parabh tayree.
O’ God, when I sought Your refuge,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਪਕੜੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਾਂ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨਸਾ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੩॥
taaN pooran ho-ee mansaa mayree. ||3||
my desires were fulfilled. ||3||
ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੇਖਿ ਚਲਿਤ ਮਨਿ ਭਏ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ॥
daykh chalit man bha-ay dilaasaa.
By gazing upon Your wonderous plays, my mind has become assured of Your power and support.
ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।)
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੮੦॥
naanak daas tayraa bharvaasaa. ||4||29||80||
O’ God, Your servant Nanak relies on Your support alone. ||4||29||80||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ) ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੮੦॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮੂਸਾ ਲਾਜੁ ਟੁਕਾਈ ॥
an-din moosaa laaj tukaa-ee.
O’ brother, every day the mouse (time) is nibbling the rope of life;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਮਰ ਦੀ ਲੱਜ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਚੂਹਾ ਟੁੱਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਗਿਰਤ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਮਿਠਾਈ ॥੧॥
girat koop meh khaahi mithaa-ee. ||1||
but fallen into the well of Maya, you keep enjoying the sweets (worldly pleasures). ||1||
ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਤੂੰ ਮਠਿਆਈ ਖਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਾਣਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ) ॥੧॥
ਸੋਚਤ ਸਾਚਤ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ॥
sochat saachat rain bihaanee.
The night of life passes away, thinking and planning.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਸੋਚਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ) ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik rang maa-i-aa kay chitvat kabhoo na simrai saringpaanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One thinks about many aspects of Maya but never meditates on God. |1||Pause|
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ॥
darum kee chhaa-i-aa nihchal garihu baaNDhi-aa.
Engrossed in Maya, one believes that his stay in the world is permanent; it is like building a house under a tree considering its shade to be immovable,
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਤਨਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਰੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਘਰ ਮੰਨ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਫਾਂਸਿ ਸਕਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਂਧਿਆ ॥੨॥
kaal kai faaNs sakat sar saaNDhi-aa. ||2||
but he is caught in the noose of death and Maya has aimed its arrow at him. |2|
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਲ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਤੀਰ ਕੱਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਾਲੂ ਕਨਾਰਾ ਤਰੰਗ ਮੁਖਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
baaloo kanaaraa tarang mukh aa-i-aa.
(Life in the world is like) that sandy shore, which is being eroded by the waves,
(ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਵਾਸਾ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਰੇਤ ਦਾ ਕੰਢਾ ਲਹਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਮੂੜਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
so thaan moorh nihchal kar paa-i-aa. ||3||
but the fool still believes this place (stay in the world) to be permanent. ||3||
ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
saaDhsang japi-o har raa-ay.
One who, in the holy congregation meditates on the sovereign God,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੮੧॥
naanak jeevai har gun gaa-ay. ||4||30||81||
O’ Nanak, he remains spiritually alive by singing the Praises of God. |4|30|81|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੮੧॥

ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਕਰਤੀ ਕੇਲ ॥
un kai sang too kartee kayl.
O’ human body, accompanied by the soul, you engage in many frolics.
ਹੇ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ! ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ (ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚੋਜ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈਂ,
ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲ ॥
un kai sang ham tum sang mayl.
Because of the soul, you come in contact with everyone.
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੇਲ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ਲੋਰੈ ॥
unH kai sang tum sabh ko-oo lorai.
Because of the soul, everybody desires to meet you,
ਆਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਊ ਮੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੋਰੈ ॥੧॥
os binaa ko-oo mukh nahee jorai. ||1||
but without the soul nobody wants to look at you. ||1||
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਹਾ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
tay bairaagee kahaa samaa-ay.
Detached from you, where the soul has gone?
ਉਹ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੁਹੀ ਦੁਹੇਰੀ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis bin tuhee duhayree ree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ body, without the soul, you are useless. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ! ਉਸ (ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਹਰਿ ॥
unH kai sang too garih meh maahar.
In the soul’s presence, you are considered like a wise lady of the house.
ਹੇ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ! ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਆਣੀ ਸਮਝੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ, l
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਾਹਰਿ ॥
unH kai sang too ho-ee hai jaahar.
You become known everywhere because of the soul.
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈਂ,
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੂ ਰਖੀ ਪਪੋਲਿ ॥
unH kai sang too rakhee papol.
You were cherished carefully when the soul was with you.
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਲ-ਪੋਸ ਕੇ ਰੱਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੋਲਿ ॥੨॥
os binaa tooN chhutkee rol. ||2||
Without the soul, you are being wasted away like a deserted wife. ||2||
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਛੁੱਟੜ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ ਰੁਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ॥
unH kai sang tayraa maan mahat.
In the company of the soul, you are treated with respect and honor.
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਾਕੁ ਜਗਤੁ ॥
unH kai sang tum saak jagat.
because of the soul, you have relationship with the world.
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਾਕ-ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਟੀ ॥

You are preserved in every way, when the soul is within you,
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਓਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੩॥
os binaa tooN ho-ee hai maatee. ||3||
but without the soul, you are reduced to dust. ||3||
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੩॥
ਓਹੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
oh bairaagee marai na jaa-ay.
Detached from the body, the soul neither dies, nor is born.
ਕਾਂਇਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਬਾਧਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
hukmay baaDhaa kaar kamaa-ay.
Bound by God’s command, the soul performs its deed of entering and leaving the body.
(ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਕਾਂਇਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਾਪਿ ॥
jorh vichhorhay naanak thaap.
O Nanak, God unites the soul with the body and also separates them.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਰੀਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੋੜ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਵਿਛੋੜ ਵੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪਨੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥੩੧॥੮੨॥
apnee kudrat jaanai aap. ||4||31||82||
